Help! problem turning on imac

I shouldn't wait to the last minute! I need to print pictures for a Christmas present. I am having problems turning on my new imac. I even tried a different place on the power strip. Finally got it to start up after trying about 8 times of pushing the power button, and now the Fan is running really loud. What do I do?

A power outage, a small power surge/sag from weather, a loose connection?
1. Replace that weak or old Surge Protector
2. Check for a loose connections +(back of the iMac, surge protector, wall plug, etc.)+
I would also check and re-adjust some Energy Saver Preferences:
1. Set the Computer sleep to longer or Never
2. Set Display sleep to 10 or 15 min
3. Uncheck the boxes
a. Allow power button to put the computer to sleep
b. Startup automatically after a power failure
Then if everything is OK, there's probably nothing to worry about.
If not, make an appointment at the Local Apple Store or Apple Service Provider.

Assuming you're creating this event to place in your calendar, and assuming this calendar is shared with your iMac and iPad using iCloud, might the calendar be restricted on your iPhone?

I cannot connect to FaceTime, encountered "error processing registration, please try later" message on my Macbook Air, but I don't have this problem on my IMac. Can anyone help?

I have the same problem on my iMac. My facetime has been working, but now I'm getting the same error as You. I've been through the following:
The stuff that Linc Davis suggested, new profile on iMac, moved iMac into DMZ zone with no firewall rules, tested with other Apple-ID, checked hosts file, checked different timezone settings, tried to connect to 2 mobile APs (with diferent providors), changed DNS servers (ISP's DNS + Google DNS + Open DNS) - Nothing helped. Also talked to Apple Support, since i have Apple Care, but the seem to be a bit clueless also Well I've mailed them the results of my different tests, so lets see what they come up with - Unfortunately I'm sure it will be the same suggestion as all the major PC manufactures suggests, reinstall and test - RIGHT !!!!!!
If I get solution, I'll post it here.
    Kind Regards

My iphone 5s 16 gb has an camera problem, turn the camera on tap all green, please help me

    Hi teejayfs,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you've noticed unexpected behavior with your iPhone camera, start with these steps to isolate or resolve the issue:
Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.
You can find these steps here:

  • Problems to conect imac 10.5.8 (2.66 GHz) to macbook pro 10.9 (2.5 GHz) by thunderbolt cable? Command F2 doesnt work! HELP!

I have problems to conect imac 10.5.8 (2.66 GHz) to macbook pro 10.9 (2.5 GHz) by thunderbolt cable?
    Command F2 doesnt work!
Its possible? Or it has to be the same operating system?
    HELP!
    Thank you

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    You have got two problems:
    1. You haven't got a 27-inch iMac or a Thunderbolt iMac, because you are running 10.5.8, and;
    2. Your iMac has got Mini DisplayPort, so it won't detect a Thunderbolt cable.
Your Mac is not compatible with Target Display mode. If you want to use your iMac as an external display for the MacBook, use ScreenRecycler, which will allow you to mirror your MacBook Pro's display to your iMac over the network

  • Help - problems waking up

Over the last week I have started to have problems waking up my iMac. The problem occurs randomly with the following symptoms: - the screen stays dark but the hard drive and fan start, with the fan gradually building to a dull roar.
I have reset the parameter RAM and SMU and done a safe mode boot which all seemed OK.
    Any clues? Thanks.

Hello, I've been having several problems with my iMac G5 that seemed to all start at the same time:
1/ The problem under discussion - compunter won't start up again after sleeping - fan, noise etc. OR screen image comes back but then distorts slightly, a dark gray washes over it, and a restart notice appears (also distorted).
2/ Trouble starting computer - during start-up the usual tone is heard, then a grey screen appears and the start up process stops. I am forced to restart and try again. After several attempts the computer makes it to the grey apple logo and it finally starts up. The computer works perfectly once it is finally on all of the way - except for the sleep thing.
I have tried the follwing techniques to fix the problems:
    - Disc Utility check: everything fine
    - Hardware Test from disk: everything fine
    - Re-set PRAM
    - Tried starting holding down Option Key - had to shut down after endless wait
    - Looked for new firmware - what I found didn't help
    - Removed new Software - no change
    - Tested with various peripherals unplugged - do dice
I have NOT tried Safe Boot - safe mode would turn off many of the functions I use most. Rendering the fix moot.
I'm not sure what else I can do. I am, of course, aware of the "Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues" but as I live in Japan, outside Tokyo, it is going to be a long haul to get my computer in to be looked at.
Could this be fixed any other way by me? Or does this sound like a classic "G5 power/video issue" and I should just take it in?
Many thanks for your time in replying,
    Corrie B.

  • Turning on iMac G5 power PC only shows ? mark inside a tiny file folder on

When i booted up my G5 iMac today only a tiny file folder appeared in the center of the screen, inside it was a ? symbol alternating with a blue/black head cartoon. Apple technician said reset the PRAM. Immpossibe to hold down 4 keys and also turn the power back on on this 17 inch G5 with the power button on the back. I restarted with disk# ! from CD that came with the G5, but couldn't get it to install anything, then wouldn't shut down by a Force quit. Finally got it turned off. Now I am on old iMac trying to get help, as it is too late to get help from Apple support on the phone.
Has anyone seen this "?" mark icon before? Help!

    Hi Poikaa,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
Why is it impossible to reset the PRAM?
The little folder with the "?" in it means, that the
computer cannot find a bootable system folder. This
is a very common icon and most long-time Mac users
saw this somewhen during their career.
Insert the Tiger install DVD and boot while holding
down the c-key. Once the installer has started and
you selected the language, go to the MENU and select
"Disk Utility". Repair the disk and repair
    permissions.
Quit disk utility and restart while holding down the
Apple-Option-P-R keys until you heard the startup
chime for 3 times. Then release the keys and let it
boot. Does the problem persist? yes, it did persist
    addendum to my problem:
I inserted the start up disk, as instructed by an Apple technician that said he could solve all my problems, I could not reset the Pram, as i could not turn on the power button, while holding down the rest of the keys. Button is on the back of the machine to the left.
after many repeat manipulations as directed by the Apple person, none of which helped, he turned me over to an expert. He was more helpful and ran a hardware test, which said all parts passed, and the folder icon and ? mark meant that the machine couldn't find the Start up and it would not boot, and I had to take it into an Apple store. I had told them the machine was beeping, found out that meant the Hardrive was crashing.
That's what they told me at the Apple store and that none of my data could be salvaged. Under my service plan i bought, the new hard drive is covered. But because of all the manipulations the technicians online told me to do, the data was impossible to salvage. So i am without my computer, and will have a Tabula rasa with nothing saved on my one year old purchase of the 2005 iMacG5, which was a demo, but only a year from manufacture. Apple store says hardrives only have a 3-5 year life. How about mine two years? I am very depressed about App;e products now, and their technicians help online.

  • Problem Restoring an iMac

    Howdy!
First of all.. i`m sorry for any language mistake... English isn`t my primary language, so...
    ok... let`s go!
I`m trying to format an iMac 21" and i`ve found some issues..
I`d made just like the apple support says... erase the disk with Disk utilities and then reboot with HD recovery...
The download of OS X Mountain Lions goes ok, but when i tried to install, got stucket at the first quarter of the process. I`d tried it for several times and everytime i made this, the process got stucked at the same point.
then i made probably a mistake (hope not), but it was 5:00 in the morning and my brain was barely melted... so i`d tried to restore
the iMac HD with the Mac OS X Install ESD and when i realised that i made a huge mistak, i`d cancelled the process.
Ok... then i got my biggest problem...
My HD was completely Clean, without Mountain Lion Restore partition and everything...
I tried to restore with the Snow Leopard DVD that came with my iMac, but when i turn the iMac on, and selected the boot DVD, i got stucked at the apple logo screen, so i`d tried to make a bootable Mountain Lion Drive, but when it starts, i`d got the message "there is a problem installing mac os x try reinstalling".
The other thing i`d tried was the online restore that got no result.
I really don`t know what to do... i`m stucked on this issue for 2 days long and all my resouces has gone... anyone can help me?
    Thank you Very Much!!
    Pedro.

Try the restore operation again, but don't cancel it.

  • Turning on iMac gives blank screen and green light switches to yellow blink

i recently received one of the older iMac's (torquise color) from my girlfriends work and was told it worked but whenever i turn it on the screen just stays black and the power light is green for a few seconds then goes to yellow and blinks a few times then back to green and repeats its self, any ideas of what could be wrong? if more info needed on iMac model let me know. all help is appreciated. thank you! -Jeff

If the display stays dark, it could be a problem with your iMac's analog video board. This is the component that powers and provides the high voltage needed to drive the CRT display. If it becomes faulty, the iMac does not pass the initial power-up self test. It is the most common failure for CRT iMacs.
Your symptoms are a bit different. I have not heard of the button going back to green and repeating the cycle.
Does this iMac G3 have a slot-loading optical drive, or a tray-loading drive? "Turquoise" makes it sound like the original ("Bondi Blue") tray-loader. It would be helpful to know, since the older tray-loaders are completely different in internal design from the newer slot-loaders.

  • HT5824 I switched over from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S3 & I haven't been able to receive any text messages from iPhones. Please help with turning my iMessage completely off..

I switched over from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S3 & I haven't been able to receive any text messages from iPhones. I have no problem sending the text messages but I'm not receivng any from iPhones at all. It has been about a week now that I'm having this problem. I've already tried fixing it myself and I also went into the sprint store, they tried everything as well. My last option was to contact Apple directly. Please help with turning my iMessage completely off so that I can receive my texts.

If you registered your iPhone with Apple using a support profile, try going to https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do and unregistering it.  Also, try changing the password associated with the Apple ID that you were using for iMessage.

  • Can anyone help me get my iMac to reboot?  I get a gray "curtain" over the start up screen saying I need to restart my computer but it won't restart.  I just keep getting the same message every time.

Can anyone help me get my iMac to reboot?  I get a gray "curtain" over the light gray start up screen with a message that I need to restart my computer and to hold the power button until it powers off and then press the power button again to restart.  It just does this over and over again and won't restart.

Yeah, as necronym stated, it is a hardware issue and more than likely a RAM problem. Disconnect everything from the computer except keyboard and mouse and try again. If it still happens try removing one and/or swapping your RAM sticks over. Keep trying until you have eliminated all possible combinations. Just put a mark on one RAM stick so you know what have tried. If it still fails to boot properly you should probably replace your RAM, but that is no guarantee of success. Have a look at this link for more info on a Kernel Panic.

  • Image Persistence a reoccuring problem on 24" iMac

    Hello fellows,
For the past few months now I've had problems with Image Retention/persistence. The thing is, I've had things in place for longer without them leaving a ghost, and the amount of time it takes to ghost seems completely inconsistent, and seems to happen faster recently.
The thing is, 3 out of 4 times this has happened (and im not sure about the 4th) happened while I was on my Windows 7 bootcamp partition.
Granted, I do play computer games on my windows partition, but only one time has the HUD of the game actually been what became ghosted, and that was only after an hour or so of gameplay (and the most recent incident)
I'm getting rather worried about my monitor. I know the ghosting goes away after leaving the monitor off, and I do have screensavers and monitor sleep set on both my mac and windows partitions, but it seems to be happening more quickly lately. Could it be an issue with the monitor and Windows 7? And could I get a replacement from Apple? (I bought the iMac last August so I'm fairly certain I've still got warranty)

I'm having a similar problem with my iMac.
I just noticed yesterday that some of my desktop icons are leaving ghost images. Unfortunately, the images are not disappearing after turning the monitor off.
There have been times that I needed to turn off my screen saver, but I don't recall leaving the monitor on for very long. Plus, I thought I understood that image persistence was not an issue with LED monitors. Guess I was wrong.
I've had my iMac for just under two years. I hope there is some kind of relatively easy solution.
