Help - problem updating songs on my iPod

I've been deleting old podcasts from iTunes and replacing them with new ones. However, even though the folder with the podcasts on both iTunes and my iPod after being updated showed only the current podcasts, it wasn't physically erasing the old ones from the iPod, so end result is that I maxed out on capacity. So, I used Windows to delete all the song files on the iPod. After that, I tried to update my iPod, and I got a message saying "Update is complete" even though no songs have in fact been transferred to the iPod. How can I make iTunes actually put the songs and podcasts back onto my iPod?

Anyone? I can't use my iPod! Help!!

  • "Update Songs on'my ipod'"

I chose "update songs on 'my ipod'" and it erased all the songs I had on my ipod and copied the limited amount of songs I had in my library on that computer. What gives? I am not happy about this. Is there any way to get them back on my ipod? there were songs on the ipod that I didn't have on my computer.
    What the ****?
    Thanks for your help,
    Jay

By selecting that option you automatically synced your iPod with your iTunes library.
The songs on your iPod will have been erased and replaced with the contents of the iTunes library you just synced with.
That's the way auto sync works. Unless you have a back up someplace, the songs on your iPod are gone.

Alright, so my ipod touch stopped working, but I can still connect it to itunes, but my friend gave me his old nano. I was wondering how I could get my more updated songs from my ipod touch onto th nano. My laptop crashed whitch had all my new music, and im afraid if I sync my Ipod touch to the desktop with all my old songs, ill lose all my newer ones which I dont want to happen because I want them on my nano. Im sorry for the confusing topic im just so lost.

All you have to do is connect your new iPod to the computer that has the library for your old iPod.
When iTunes comes up, click on your new iPod under Devices.
At the top of the Summary Page click Music.
    Click Synch Music.
Do the same thing for Photos, Apps, Movies and so on...
    Now just synch the iPod.

  • Please help me!! problems putting songs in my ipod

ok, i just bought the ipod video and am having troubles with putting songs into it.
i know when u connect the ipod to ur computer, it automatically syncs all the songs u have in ur library to ur ipod.
so i took mine to one of my friends house and updated my ipod with his computer. so now i have 1016 good songs. but i can't update it with my computer now because i don't have the songs (that are in my ipod) in my computer.
so if i updated my ipod w/ mine, it'd delete the songs i got from my friends house.
so now, i have to go over to his house everytime i wanna update my ipod, and trust me it's pain in my little toush
so please tell me if there is anyway for my to tranport the songs FROM my ipod TO my computer or just update it with my computer without erasing the previous songs.
    thank you

"so if i updated my ipod w/ mine, it'd delete the songs i got from my friends house."
Correct. Apple made it this way to help prevent illegal file sharing of copyrighted material.

  • Updating Song in my iPod

    Dear All,
I face a problem while connecting my ipod to two different pc .It deletes all the previous library an replaces with new library.there is no other option to choose! Any way out ?
Also can any one tell m how one can stop playing a song? Thes is only one option and that is resuming!!
    Best regards,
    Saba

You'll have to set up the iPod to manual update.
Connect the iPod to the first computer.
In iTunes, select Preferences, then choose iPod.
Select "manually manage songs and playlists"
Now you can add music from any computer without losing the songs already on the iPod.
There is no "stop" on the iPod-->only Pause.

  • I need help getting my songs from my ipod to my computer

my computer recently crashed and most of my songs were from cds and i cant get them from my ipod on to my new computer i have no access to the old itunes is their anyway to get them bac on my new computer with out haveing to go cd by cd again

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How do I set iTunes to manually update songs without connecting iPod first?

Hi. I just got a new computer and downloaded iTunes. The User Guide says that when you connect the iPod, iTunes automatically updates all songs in your iTunes and deletes songs that are not in iTunes. As far as I can see by reading the User's Guide, iPod has to be connected to change the setting to "manual update". I already have an iPod with songs in it that are not on the iTunes that I just downloaded. I'm afraid that if I connect my iPod, it will erase the songs already in my iPod because of the default "automatic update" setting. Does anyone know how I can change the setting to "manual update" BEFORE I connect the iPod to the computer?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Problem With Song List In Ipod Movies

Let's Say I have In My I Pod 5 songs Of Bon Jovi, If Those 5 Song Don't Have An Album Title, They All Apear In When I Press The Artist and then All. If I have More Then One title , let's say two of the five songs have different titles, the titles appear when I press the artist and if I press All, all the songs apear. [b]BUT If I Have Two songs With Same Title and the other songs don't have an album title ( meaning in all the five songs there is one album title, but not in all of them) When I press On the IPod the artist name, only those two songs apear and above it's written the album title and the other songs without the album title do not appear
how do I fix this, and what is the problem?
    Ipod   Windows XP

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is marked as part of a compilation or 2) it is missing an album name.
If the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder which may be why this happens.
Also if tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod

  • Why can't i update songs to my ipod and playlists?

So the other day i decide to add a few songs ripped from cds i purchased over the new year. I loaded them onto itunes and plugged my ipod into the docking bay. My ipod freezes. i go to this site and think i know what i am doing after reading people answers to similiar queries. I first reset my ipod then I restore the factory settings and download the new ipod updater. plug my ipod back into the docking bay. a few songs get onto my ipod but then it says complete you can remove your ipod, except there are about 2000 songs missing. I go through the process again restoring the factory settings. Now my ipod shows up on my hard drive and in itunes. but it will not let me update my ipod. the choice from the drop down menu does not light up. So i figure out how to manually load them but all my playlists that i have created over the last two years will not transfer. i have never had a complaint or a problem with my ipod. but now it is usesless because i have so much music on it with out playlists it is a waste. Does anyone know what is going on. I have a lot of live music from jam bands that my friends tape and convert to mp3 format, all legal sharing like phish. Does the new updater install a filter that has automatically assumed that i stole them and prevent them from transferring? Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be? I am going nuts trying to figure it out.
    thanks
    40G   Windows XP

I went through the whole process again. i removed all of itunes and ipod software from my computer and installed the original from the disc that came with the original purchase, pluged it into the dock and when it said i needed to update my ipod software i said no. it seems to be working. but i bet the next time i load more songs on a later date i will run into the same problems. The problem seems to be with the new updater 2006-01-10. now that i have figured out the problem i am going to load the new software to my ipod after all my songs are there and see what happens. wish me luck.

  • Updating song info from iPod to iTunes Library

I've got an iPod Video 60GB. I manually control the content on my iPod and iTunes. I listen to my iPod at work all the time and rarely listen to music on my computer. How do I get iTunes to update my Library with the play count, song rating, and last played data from my iPod?

To move your library see this migrate iTunes library post.
If it is only the media on the external drive see Make a split library portable.
You should make your edits in iTunes, and backup the library against problems.
Automatic syncing is generally easier, but if you edit in iTunes and then drag & drop updated files to the device, the updated files should replace the originals. Dragging songs the other way is not supported.
If you want to try extracting the updated tracks from your device see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Please Help: Problem Playing Songs Imported from CD's

I know this question has probably been asked before but I have yet to find an answer to help me fix my problem. When I upload songs from a CD to itunes they won't play. It skips over them. There isn't any wierd symbols next to the song that says that there is something wrong and I am not getting any error messages. The only thing that is wierd is under time it says "not available". I am really bad at using computers and any responses will be greatly appreciated.
P>S> I have windows 2000 but my computer used to have windows XP.

    Aloha,
Just a suggestion since I've had a similar problem which has taken me weeks to fix! What happened was the iTunes library files got trashed somehow, but the music was still there! Use Windows Explorer ( run explorer.exe ) and look at My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\ and see whether your music is still there or not. If it is, you're going to have to reimport each album from within iTunes by clicking on File, Import Library, which will bring up a window...browse to the iTunes Music Folder and click on each album...a real pain, but it works! This may leave you with a lot of duplicate songs in your music library which will have " ! " exclamation marks next to them ...they have no links...which you'll have to delete manually ( just the ones with the ! next to them ).
It's important that you back up the two files, iTunes Music Library.xml and Itunes Library.itl every day!!! ( and find some easy way to do it...I not only use an auto backup, I actually copy and paste them into a 'saved' folder. Without them, your iTunes music is ..um..useless!
    Hope this helped.

  • URGENT HELP PLS Updating latest software 2 iPod causes it2constantly reset

Connected my 5th Generation ipod to iTunes (latest version 7.5(19)) and was told new software available for ipod. Foolishly I said Yes. Ever since then been constantly resetting itself both when connected by USB and when not. Did the 5Rs but it is resetting anyway. Anyone know a fix for this please? Worried it's going to flatten battery. Shall I just leave connected to computer and let it reset ad infinitum till I can get to an Apple store?

Mine stopped resetting itself overnight. When I checked the battery icon it showed about 1/3 used. Because I was having trouble ejecting the iPod from iTunes I took it to a Apple Recognised dealer. He looked at laptop and saw I was running ClamXav a virus protector. Although I told it only to monitor my documents folder it appeared that it might be doing more than that. When told to stop I was able to eject iPod normally.
He did mention that a lot of the recent updates were due to introduction of Leopard and it was still having teething problems.

  • HELP cant get songs on the ipod

itunes says that the ipod has been updated but when i go to use it it flashes green/orange and doesnt make any noise.
      Windows XP Pro
      Windows XP Pro

    That sounds about right.
Updating the software removes all songs.
Flashing O/G means, among other things, that there are no songs on the iPS to be played.
Not making noise when nothing is there would be a good thing.

  • Update song titles in ipod

Hi I just got my 30gig video ipod. Some of my songs say track 6 or do not have the artist. When looking in itunes they say the same. Is there a way to get the names and artist for all my songs in library?

I have a question for you. I have done this on several songs that have had the wrong band name or the band name was in the song title.
These songs were previously sinked to my ipod (its the 30gig color one that shows movie moddle). Now when I sink it I can't find these songs when I go to say look under all songs for a band. If it helps I believe the ones that don't work the band already had songs with the right name in it.
Do I just have to clear my ipod and let it resink all the songs (which would take some time I believe) or is there a solution to get them to show. Thanks.

  • Problems adding songs to libraries, ipod, etc.

My ipod recently stopped downloading files. I assumed it was the ipod. I followed all of the steps to restoring it. That did not work. I sent it to have it repaired. They could not find a problem with it. They still have it. Today, I tried to download a podcast, and itunes would not download the podcast. I uninstalled itunes, redownloaded the setup, and reinstalled it. The problem still persists.
Any insights? I would greatly appreciate any help.
    Thanks in advance,
    matt dinsmore

I followed all of the steps to restoring it. That
    did not work
    Did it Restore properly?
It completed the restore process. I don't remember checking to see if there was anything on it, as I trusted iTunes' assessment of the restore.
Today, I tried to download a podcast, and itunes
    would not download the podcast.
    What happens? Any messages?
How are you trying to download a podcast?
I go to the link through the store and when I click to download the podcast, iTunes reacts and the little clockwise-spinning timer activates for a split second. Then it stops, and there is no explanation. The filename for the file appears in the podcast list, but no file is written to the drive.
