Hi thebman18,
I am having a similar problem with 5.0.4 - did you ever find a solution? I made the project before upgrading to 5.0.4 - and I can open some old project files - but not one in particular that I really need to open!!

  • Problem upgrading FCP HD Retail (4.5) to FCS Studio 2

    Hi,
I have a retail (non-academic) version of the Final Cut Pro HD Production Suite. I recently purchased a Final Cut Studio 2 Upgrade.
When I try to install the upgrade, I get a message saying that this is an upgrade serial number and asking me to enter my original serial number. When I enter my original serial number, I get the message "The serial number you entered is not valid." What could be the problem?
The original is "Final Cut Pro HD Retail" and included separate serial numbers for FCP HD, Motion, QuickTime and DVD Studio Pro. I have used this version for years with no problem and I originally purchased it at full retail from the Apple Store, so I know there is nothing wrong with the serial number.
The upgrade says "Final Cut Studio 2 UPG from FCS". Everything I have seen online says that the FCS2 upgrade will upgrade from any prior version of FCP Production Suite. Is that not correct?
What could be the problem here?
    Thanks!
    Michael

I think that the problem is that this upgrade will not upgrade my FCP 4.5 Retail... I'm quite annoyed because I did a lot of research online and in these forums and everything I could find said that the Final Cut     Studio 2 Upgrade upgraded from all previous versions of Final Cut      Pro or Final Cut Studio. Even when I encountered the problem,      everything I found online said that the Studio 2 Upgrade upgraded from all      previous versions of Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Studio. Finally, I      found one obscure page at Apple that listed 3 different Final Cut     Studio 2 upgrades      and it appears that this one cannot upgrade from FCP 4.5... Why make an upgrade that can't go from version 4.5 to version 6? I'm      annoyed at Apple for making it so confusing. I'm going to try      getting the intermediate upgrade and hopefully that will work.
    Thanks for your input!

  • HELP!!!!!  FCP won't read project!

    Alright.
Here is the synopsis of my problem:
I was having trouble with Soundtrack Pro: stalling, extremely long process times, unexpectedly closing etc... I was told to delete Soundtrack Pro and to reinstall it. So, I deleted Soundtrack Pro from my Applications and Dock and then inserted the FCP Studio Installation CD. It asked me to select the program(s) I want to install and Soundtrack was the only available choice since the computer recognized I had deleted it.
I then followed all the installation instructions and inserted every CD part of the installation pack (to my surprise it asked for all of them even though I only need to install one program).
After everything was done installing, I reopened FCP to open my project and preceded to send it to Soundtrack Pro. I COULDN'T EVEN OPEN UP MY PROJECT. The FCP opens but when I try to open my project I get a message saying "FILE FORMAT IS TOO NEW FOR THIS VERSION OF THE APPLICATION".
I don't understand. It is the same software that I originally installed.
PLEASE HELP. I AM WORKING WITH A CLOSE DEADLINE!
    THANKS!

It is the same software that I originally installed.
Could it be that there was an minor update to Soundtrack that is now missing?
Sometimes those updates are not directly obvious and come bundled in a ProApps Update package. Reinstalling might have taken you back to an earlier version.
Look in Hard Drive/Library/Application Support/Pro Apps. There should be a file called "Soundtrack Pro Integration.bundle" does the version # correspond to the # of the Soundtrack application itself?
Also compare the version # of receipts file(s) in Hard Drive/Library/Receipts.
This will take some time to sort out. FCS puts lots of files in odd places and some are in invisible folders. Do you have the possibility of moving the project to another computer? That way you can at least get the job out of the door first.
Another idea, although it might not be entirely free of risks:
Move the receipts for Soundtrack and ProApps Udates to a folder on your Desktop. Launch Software Update. It will now think that those updates never happened and should offer to download and install them. The installer knows where the various components go and should only replace the parts that are missing.

Not here;  updated three systems without issues.
Can you provide more details on your system specs, the projects you're referring to, and what kind of behavior you're encountering?

  • Capture Problem with FCP 5.1

I just loaded 2 new titanium macbookpros with 5.1. When testing the basics of the programs I found that one worked fine and the 2nd kept quitting FCP when I batch captured some test clips. I tried throwing out the preferences and when that didn't help I tossed the entire program and all related files and reinstalled the suite. Still having the same problem of quitting on the capture. What do I do? I'm leaving for India on Thursday and need a solution yesterday! Has anyone out there had a similar problem or did I just buy a faulty computer?

I know you said you threw out your preferences, but have you tried it using FCP Rescue? If not, try this link, download the correct version, then follow the additional instructions posted below by Brian Conner in a previous thread.
    http://www.pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue/
"In some rare cases, you have to modify that sequence of actions.
After the step where you trash the prefs in Rescue, quit Rescue, start FCP, create a new project & change a couple of settings. Doesn't matter what, because later you'll be trashing them.
Now quit FCP and Shut Down the Mac. (Shut Down, not Restart.) Then boot up again. In a Finder window, confirm that the FCP preferences files exist.
Now start FCP again and set the prefs the way you want them. Close the project, so that NO projects are open. Quit FCP.
Open FCP Rescue 5. You should not be getting a corrupt settings message. Click Backup and quit Rescue."
Hopefully that will do the trick, or post back if still needing help.

  • Problems with FCP 5.1.4 and OSX 10.4.9

I upgraded to Tiger, installed the new FCP Studio and everything was working fantastic.
The next morning there was a software update for Tiger and FCP-5.1.4, it's been a nightmare ever since. When I restarted FCP would not recognize my Sony HDR FX1.
I had this problem once before with 4.5 and I fixed it by re-installing FCP and doing the upgrades, so that's what I did with 5 but this time there was a new problem. It wouldn't let me work on anything that I had opened since I did the software update, so I had to do the update again and then FCP wouldn't recognize my camcorder again on startup. If you pressed log and capture you could control the camera but no capture was possible.
So I re-set the easy set-up and presto! everything was fine and I worked productively for a few days.
But then I had to capture some SD from my Canon GL2 so I reset all the settings for DV NTSC and reset the easy set-up for DV NTSC but now FCP won't recognize my GL2 on start-up. If I click log and capture I can control the camera but no capture.
My next try to solve my problem was to downgrade back to my original 10.4.6 and FCP 5.1
That put be back to square one and everything works fine again except I am left with the problem that everything that I worked on after I did the update won't open, I get error 41.
Now I know this is because I am now trying to work on these projects with 5.1 after they were worked on in 5.1.4. But the problem is that everytime I update to 5.1.4 I can no longer capture or print to tape.
I tried the trashing the FCP prefs thing and the repairing permissions thing but I can't seem to solve the problem.
Has anyone else had any problems using FCP 5.1.4 and OSX 10.4.9?

Not sure how you tried to install 10.4.8 but if all
else fails you can always reinstall the original
operating system that came with your Mac using 'Erase
and Install' then upgrade it to 10.4.8 - probably in
    stages.
Erase and install should be used as a last resort! A better option is to use the "archive and install" feature. It renames your old system folder and creates a new one for the OS you just re-installed. That way you don't have to reinstall everything, your user accounts and emails should all still be there, and if something doesn't work, you have your old system folder to pull things like preference files out of.

  • Crazy permission/disk problems with FCP

I've been using Final Cut pro flawlessly on this machine for a long time with no problems (I'm a freelance editor). Then yesterday, I received a small Seagate USB drive with media on it from a cinematographer. I mounted it to copy the footage onto my own firewire drive (via eSata to my G-Drive) so I could send the drive back to the guy. When I tried to copy the media to the FW drive, it gave me the circle with the cross mark in it showing I couldn't copy it. I thought it might be a permissions thing on the drive, but everything on both drives looked good. I couldn't copy to my desktop, either. I could copy TO the USB drive, I could duplicate a file already on it onto the same drive, I could read the media on the drive, but I couldn't copy to another drive.
I tried the old Mac restart trick but it didn't work. To make sure it wasn't MY machine or MY drive, I plugged the little USB drive into my other laptop. Same thing happened.
I plugged it back into my main computer. The guy had sent the Final Cut project files that he digitized into, so I launched them off the USB drive, and was able to use Media Mover to copy the media to my own firewire drive. I was able to edit, etc. Perfect. I unplug the USB drive and everything goes off line (I figured FCP was still looking at the old files) so I reconnected the media to the new copy on my firewire drive. Everything's good.
I ended up having to relaunch FCP for a new project and got an error that Final Cut couldn't write to my scratch disk (my OWN firewire drive with the copied media on it). I've never had that happen. I checked the permissions on my drive, everything's good. So I grab a file on my own drive to try to copy it somewhere - and I get the same f-ing error I originally had on the other guy's USB drive. Apparently, whatever the problem is has spread.
SO - I tried to run the Mac Drive Utility and it won't run on my FW drive. It's showing as an unknown format type and I don't know why that is. I also can't find my system start up disks (wonderful) to try to run disk repair from that. I would be all for just wiping the drive and reformatting it - but it has EVERYTHING I use on it (music, sound effects, other projects in the works). I don't know if it's corrupt media, a corrupt FCP file, or something that now needs to be repaired on my drive.
I'm in desperate need of help.

How weird. I was sure I had already tried that, but it worked. Not only can I copy media, but FCP will write to it, AND it now shows as Mac extended again. Spooky. In the last hour, I had tried Disk Warrior (couldn't access it), and Disk Utility (couldn't access it), as well as a Virus Scanner (you guessed it - couldn't access it).
Thanks for the help. All is working now. Hopefully, this house of cards doesn't collapse again.

  • Problems with FCP after Snow Leopard Installation

I'm editing canon 5d footage in FCP. I use MPEG Streamclip to properly convert the footage before importing to fcp. Everything was working absolutely fine until I installed snow leopard.  Now, all of the clips in the timeline have those weird lines as if I imported the footage without converting it.  I have a deadline and if I have to re-edit this entire project it's not going to be pretty.  I have installed all of the updates for FCP and Snow Leopard.  I tried a test by creating a new batch in MPEG streamclip and the footage is fine. It appears that I might have to re-edit everything.   Can someone PLEASE offer some assistance?  I can't afford to re-edit this project.
    Thank you

Yes... I am aware of the canon plug in for converting 5d/7d footage.  I either use that plug in or MPEG stream clip and they both have been working fine.   "Properly" meaning... FCP does not recognize H.264 (5d and 7d) therefor we need to convert the video using either MPEG stream clip or the free canon plug in.  The best codec to edit this footage is ProRes 422LT  ProRes422 - I only use the 5d and or 7d cameras for my projects and have been editing this way for some time without any problems what so ever.  The problems immediately arose after upgrading to Snow Leopard. The problem lies in my EXISTING FCP projects that are already in the works.  I am still able to convert footage for new projects without a problem.  I am using the latest updated versions of SL and FCP. I did the following to trouble shoot:
    1. Did a clean reinstall of FCP - STILL HAPPENING
    2. On an existing project I deleted a few of the problem clips.  Took the original and converted it again using MPEG Stream clip.  Renamed it and from the FCP project, I located the new clip.  SAME PROBLEM
    3. On an existing project, I deleted a few of the clips completely. Converted the original again using MPEG SC.  Imported the entire new clip in FCP, re-edited it and dragged it into the time line.  NO PROBLEM WORKS FINE
    4. Opened a new project in FCP.   Took some of the original problematic clips.  Converted them using MPEG SC. Dragged into the timeline.  NO PROBLEM, WORKS FINE
    5. Played both the original clips (before conversion) and the converted clips in Quick Time - NO PROBLEM WORKS FINE
    6.  Exported part of a problematic project to Quick Time - NO PROBLEM WORKS FINE
    7. Opened up one of the same projects from the same hard drive on my other mac (Mac Book Pro) and there are NO PROBLEMS.  THEY WORK FINE
Based on everything I've listed above, the problem seems to be happening in the Viewer  and Canvas on my I-Mac which I just upgraded to Snow Leopard.  The exported projects are fine.  Am I to assume that I should continue working with these existing projects and everything will be fine?  I've spoke to 5 or 6 friends that are experienced and no one can come up with an answer.

  • Problem Upgrading to Apex 3.1 on XE

I am running into a problem upgrading Apex to 3.1 on Oracle XE.
    Hardware and Software:
Database: Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0
    PL/SQL Web Toolkit Version: 10.1.2.0.4
Host O/S: MS Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP2
Host Hardware: AMD Athlon 64 Processor, 2.2 GHz, 1.87 GB RAM
    Background:
This is a lab host. I am working through the full installation process so that I can set up XE and Apex on development and production hosts, the end in mind being to develop a simple application using XE/Apex instead of Access 2003, which is used heavily in this shop.
It seems to me that upgrading to Apex 3.1 would be a good thing to do up front instead of developing in the version which ships with XE (2.1, I believe) and performing the upgrade later.
I installed XE going with full defaults. Nothing at all tricky. I was able to connect to http://localhost:8080/apex without any trouble and log in as system.
I then followed these Apex upgrade instructions, very carefully:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/3.1_and_xe.html
After I ran into trouble (see below), I reviewed this post and used it to double-check my work:
How to upgrade to Apex 3.1
I have worked through this a number of times, each time ending up with the same error.
    The Problem...
After the upgrade, when I navigate to http://localhost:8080/apex, I receive the following error:
    wwv_flow.app_not_found_footer_err
    wwv_flow.err wwv_flow.app_not_found_err
    OK
I reviewed this posting, which suggests that I upgrade my PL/SQL Web Toolkit:
apex 3.0 error wwv_flow.app_not_found_footer_err after new installation
I am perfectly willing to try this, but I am not sure how to obtain the latest correct version of the web toolkit for this particular version of the database. Any tips on where I might find this?
I also note that the posting says there should be 10 SQL files in the apex/builder directory. I only have 5, but I just downloaded this zip file a few days ago and assume this is the correct number of files. If it isn't, where could I find the correct zip?
Any other suggestions about the root cause of this issue would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Well, like Sherlock Holmes said, "when you have elminated the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth." Or, something like that.
Thanks Joel, it was the files. I examined the zip file I originally downloaded and, sure enough, there were 10 files. I extracted it again and, for some reason, this time it only pulled one of the SQL files out, not even five as it did the first time. In addition, it also skipped about half the language folders.
To get it work, I used the windows built-in zip to open the file, navigated to the apex/builder folder, selected all of the SQL files and language folders, then copied and pasted them into c:\apex\builder.
I then restored the database, ran the install again, and everything worked just fine: I can access http://localhost:8080/apex/apex_admin and log in.
I'm not sure what the issue is, a problem with the zip file or (ok, more likely) a problem with the built-in windows zip tool. I used 7-zip (www.7-zip.org) to extract the file on my workstation and all 10 files and 9 language folders came out just fine.
The bottom line is, it works now, thanks again for the help.
    -Tom
PS - I did not install the web toolkit upgrade.

  • Problems upgrading from OS 8.1 to OS 9.2.2

Thank you for any help you can give me.
I have some additional problems upgrading from OS 8.1 to OS 9.2.2.
    1. The keyboard is typing symbols, not normal letters. When I go to Key Caps it shows symbols and not normal letters. When I was running OS 8.1 the keyboard typed fine.
    2. I also am have trouble with windows closing as I open new windows. Everytime I click to open a new folder the old folder closes.
    3. Copying files. When I drag a file it makes a new copy on the desktop.
How did I goof up going from OS 8.1 directly to OS 9.2.2?
All these problems were fine while running under OS 8.1.
I believe this computer came with OS.8.6 installed on it but I got it with OS 8.1.
Any help you can pass on to me would be greatly appreciated.
I am typing this on my Dell PC.
    Thanks a million,

    iMac G3 333   Mac OS 9.2.x

Easy, I just insert my OS 8.1 System Software into the tray loading CD and choose it as the start up disk in the control panel. I restart the computer and it is running off of OS 8.1 instead on OS 9.2.2. I looked for another keyboard today at a used computer store but they didn't have one for the iMac. I need to find one as all my research indicates that it is somehow connected to the option key. But then again everything works fine under OS 8.1. Quite a puzzle to me. Again thanks for the page tip on Firmware. Jim - PS, I did pick up a zip drive that connects to USB ports.

  • Problems with rendering a 16:9 project with Chapter markers to iDVD

    Hi there
I'm having an issue where I'm trying to export a DVD for a client with chapter markers as it's required. Problem is when I put the project into iDVD the project squishes back to 4:3 ratio.
One solution that was on here was to use the Quicktime Conversion to create a 16:9 video however when I use Quicktime conversion I lose the chapter markers
I need to have both 16:9 ratio and Chapter Markers in the DVD how do I overcome this problem?

    Anamorphicizer didn't work.
I can use Quicktime Pro cause I currently have Quicktime X on my computer (snow leopard) which doesn't have a Pro upgrade.
Any myDVDedit is really confusing to use do I have to export the DVD into a VIDEO_TS file to fix it? I'm still puzzled

    Thanks. Jimmy

Okay Demo.  My theory is that accessing iCloud if apps were backed up to it can be redownload end then updated. I am thinking that with the new apple ID the iCloud account may only recognize the high jacked ID. I don't know if I made it clearer but I can do some digging. I don't like to see people using Apple devices having a tuff time. Not cool.

Ok. Thanks for your help, but removing that package was not the solution because I hadn't installed it. The only reference I had about that package was
    5:13# locate linux-uvc-svn                                                                                                               ~koven

    /var/lib/pacman/local/linux-uvc-svn-238-1/files
    /var/lib/pacman/local/linux-uvc-svn-238-1/install
So I decided to remove this folder and my problem was solved. Anyway I did some searches and nothing was found.
