  • Problem Locating Files From HARDDRIVE

    So here is my story:
    I had a 500GB harddrive which I had my ITUNES music folder. All of my music was nice and sorted and organized and all that jazz, I even went on to rate songs and make playlists for all my 500GBs worth of music. But then my harddrive got filled up so I got a 1TB harddrive. I dont really remember how I did it, but I was able to transfer all my music into that harddrive and keep all my playlists and ratings and play counts still intact.
    I kept my older harddrive still connected and made sure my new itunes music folder location was going to my new harddrive..
    No problems, until recently i deleted the contents of my old harddrive.. Now, when I click on a song that was added before I got the new harddrive, it wont play and shows the little "!" and would I like to locate..
    Now all the songs I have are in the new harddrive as I can easily find their location, however, finding 74,000+ songs individually is a huge pain...
    someone please help, as I'm afraid that I may have done something wrong in error..

  • Problem locating files in Lightroom 4

    I imported a bunch of cr2s from a pc to a mac osx lion lightroom 4.1.
    In the "show all on Hard Drive" I can find a file, but it says that it is missing or offline.
    Then I use thelocate in finder. I locate the photo, and still lightroom won't recognize and catalog it.
    Help!

    I imported a bunch of cr2s from a pc to a mac osx lion lightroom 4.1.
    I don't understand this ... photos must be on a hard drive attached to your computer (which I assume is a mac), they can't be on a PC

  • Problem locating files which are using storage?

    Afternoon, I'm trying to clear my Macbook air's storage. (I have emptied my recycled bin)
    I can't find the files which my mac attributes these figures to. For example i've completely moved all my moves from my mac to my server, deleted all movies out of itunes and removed any MP4 files from Iphoto... I'm at a loss to how i've still go 9.36gb on my mac?
    Same again with 'other' storage. I've deleted all large files apart for one coming to 20gb so I should have no more that 30gb, where is my mac finding 76.91gb?
    In regards to my photo's, I can't seem to move them all onto my Icloud photo stream. I've paid for extra storage, I've set it up so that all new pictures go onto it but I can't seem to get my whole library on it. I've tried highlighting the images and dragging them across but this doesn't seem to work.
    Any ideas on these problems would be very helpful.
    Thanks James

    I have just migrated files from my PC to my Mac.  I have logged into the new user account but I finder is telling me there are no files located in the new user.

  • Help - problem unzipping files on Terminal

    Hi,
    I have been unzipping files (zip and rar) using Terminal for quite sometimes now. For unknown reasons, it's given me some problems unzipping today.
    When I typed cd. /desktop, as I did in the past, it suddenly showed an error:
    -bash: -bash:: command not found
    I typed "/bin/echo $PATH", as I saw other previous posts have suggested. The result:
    /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin
    I am not sure what that means, i.e. is it ok? or is it not? and how do I fix the problem if not ok?
    I am completely IT illiterate, especially when it comes to any computer language. So please, a simple and straight forward answer, or preferrably a step-by-step guide, will be truly appreciated.
    Many thanks for your kind assistance in advance.

    MrHoffman, thanks ever so much for the helpful answer.
    a "cd ~/Desktop" instead of "a dot and a space" did allow me to unzip my files finally!
    Just wonder, by doing what I have just done, i.e. a dot and a space and then the target directory, had I already committed the sins of damaging the "Path" (something I learned from reading other similar posts in the forum)... Basically, I just want to know if i have damaged the file contents... and if so, how bad is the damage? (so far, my Mac works fine....)
    Digress, I would have loved to stay away from using Terminal as far away as I could, since I am dreading of the thought of me ended up doing something damaging to the lovely Mac. But unfortuantely, there isn't any idiot-friendly tool available for unzipping any password-protected zip files.... Would appreciate if you could offer any alternative solution to this, i.e. other than using Terminal! (NB. I have also looked into using EZ 7z and X7zX for Mac before, both of which i just gave up in the end!)
    Anyhow, thanks! : )

  • Having problems locating files

    Hey guys,
    Im working with a flash program using actionscripts, the
    program does this, once I press an area of the graphic it loads up
    a profile from a html file on my server. Different areas of graphic
    bring up different html files. I now have a new file and location
    but I cant find where I am supposed to put in the new file location
    in the JavaScript, basically I want to edit it so that I an just
    change this one part and have it load up the new files.
    Any help would be appreciated

    I've read that and a few other related articles. Those are for the database ADR homes, which i'm relatively comfortable with:
    You goto ORACLE_BASE for the database oracle user (ie. /u01/app/oracle), cycle through all results in adrci exec="show homes", and do a purge -age XXXXX. Either that, or wait the 7-day rolling purge period in which ADR automatically purges for a SHORTP policy (30 days) or the LONGP policy (365 days).
    I'm talking about the grid user. That means the +ASM instance's logs, CRS data/logs, the listener, and scan_listener entries.
    my general understanding is for the grid user, adr homes typically reside under:
    /u01/app/grid (which is the typical ORACLE_BASE)
    /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/log (which is the typical ORACLE_HOME/log)
    .. but there are a ton of other things.
    MOS 1368695.1 spells out the clusterware log locations and some of their archival policies:
    <GRID_HOME>/log/$HOST/alert$HOST.log
    <GRID_HOME>/log/$HOST/client
    <GRID_HOME>/log/$HOST/racg*
    <GRID_HOME>/log/$HOST/srvm
    <GRID_HOME>/rdbms/audit
    <GRID_HOME>/log/diag/*
    I've been told by ora support that these dir's are not auto-rotated.. have to be manually handled by the DBA. Some of these dir's under $GRID_HOME/log/<server_name>/ . . ., and they are owned by both ROOT and GRID users.  So I was wondering how the rest of the community is dealing with it? How large have people typically made their /u01/app filesystems?  Have they done purging via a cron script under the grid user or root user?

  • Problem about locating file with similar filename "Info_*.dat"

    Dear all,
    I am a big problem in file locating and reading, please help and greatful to reply me with sample code.
    How can I locate and read in files with similar file name ( Info_*.dat ) one-by-one. For example , Info_AAA.dat, Info_BBB.dat, Info_CCC.dat. I want to read in Info_AAA.dat first, and then Info_BBB.dat , and lastly Info_CCC.dat, where AAA, BBB and CCC are random number. These files are stored in the same directory.
    How can I make use of * ? such as Info*.dat . Is that possible to use * with java ? Please show me a sample if possible.
    help Help..Urgent !
    Thanks a lot.
    MRW.

    That's easy with PathPattern class from JRegex:
    import java.util;
    import jregex.util.io.PathPattern;
      Enumeration files=new PathPattern("Info_*.dat").enumerateFiles();
      while(e.hasMoreElements()){
         File f=(File)e.nextElement();
         doWhatever(f);
    ...There are also any-char "?" and any-directory "**" wildcards.

  • I am having a problem moving files from a iMac  in location mac in another location.  I have tried using Dropbox and the Public folder in the i disc.  When I drag the files into dropbox they become alias' and I can't open them at the other end beca

    I am having a problem moving files from an imac in one location to an imac inanother location.  I have tried using Dropbox which is installed in both locations but when i drad a file ino yhe app it becomes an alias.  When I get to the other location it says I can't open the file because the " original application that created it is not present".  This is despite the fact that the app that created both files is installed in both computers.  If I use the Public folder in the idisc, when I get to the other location the file isn't there.  Am I forgetting to turn something on or off?  Should I manually sync the Public folder and if so how? Thanks

    I can't access half of my downladed music. I get a message, "can't locate file." I dauthorized my computer and reloaded itunes, but it did not help. Any suggestions? Thank you.

    This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
    Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
    Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Problems "locating" referenced files after importing from iPhoto.

    I recently began importing old iPhoto libraries to Aperture, mostly successfully, but have run into a couple problems locating referenced files. While the locate referenced files function worked for most of the photos, there are a handful of photos that, when I located the original file,  the time stamp was different (by 2 hours in most cases) and it was about 15% smaller than the file Aperture was looking for. As a result, even though it was clear from the thumbnails that they were the same images, Aperture doesn't even give me the option to Reconnect them.
    Aperture 3.4.5
    OS X 10.7.5

    . I use the Reconnect All button, but it only finds the one file, even when there are hundreds more in the same folder that are unlinked.
    Reconnect all works best, if you select all files that need reconnecting at once, and then select the first file in the list to reconnect. If the other files are in the same folder and are correctly named and match, then "reconnect all" should do it. But if the filenames differ, you will have to do it one by one.
    Also,  the files are all still correctly linked in iPhoto, but every single link is broken once I import it to Aperture.
    You are importing with "File > Import > Library", correct?
    That is supposed to work. Have you tried to repair your iPhoto Library before importing to Aperture?
    Use iPhotos First Aid Tools to repair:
    Try to repair the permissions, followed by repairing the library.
    To launch the First Aid Tools,  hold down the Command and Option keys ⌥⌘ while double-clicking the iPhoto library or the iPhoto icon in the Dock.
    The iPhoto Library First Aid dialog appears.  Select the Repair option you want to use - first "permissions", then "database".

  • Problems w/ iTunes locating files after moving library to external HDD

    My iTunes collection of Music has outgrown my iBook hard unfortunately, so I finally decided to switch all my music to an external hard drive. I followed this tutorial given by iLounge (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/) step by step, and the hope was that it would be a clean transition so I could make space on my laptop, however I ran into a huge glitch. After going into my preferences and changing where the Library was located (from the laptop to Ext. HD), I went ahead and consolidated my library to the Ext HD. That went okay, or so I thought, but when I tried using some of the songs, I noticed the exclamation point meaning it could find the the song. So i went try and find the song on the external hard drive and for reason, when iTunes was consolidating(copying) the music some songs didn't transfer. I've reset location to the default on the laptop HD, but I'm having to go through and manually locate files that iTunes can't "find". Is there an easier way to get the library reload the original location of the files w/o deleting everything and reimporting the whole library? And how would I do a clean transition?

    about the middle of the page they suggest starting iTunes while holding option. then choose "rebuild library"
    This did not work for me. I still get icon for "dead tracks" on most of my music. And when holding the option key you just get to choose the library - not rebuild. I'll look to see if there is another way to rebuild. I did find this on Doug's Apple Scripts site: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/solutions01.php#003
    +• Wait a sec! I didn't delete any files, but I still see "!" next to some tracks. What gives?+
    +Some users report that their files are intact, yet on occasion, some files go AWOL...they still exist, but for some reason iTunes can't see them, and the tracks they represent show the dreaded "!". To discover the facts, you can use List MIA's, mentioned above, which will create a list of these tracks; then you can go hunting for them. To re-associate these tracks, you must click on them; iTunes will ask if you want to locate the missing file, and you weave through an Open/Save dialog for each one.+
    +I have read reports of people having success with 1) Repairing Permissions (see your Mac Help) and 2) ensuring that your files are set to "Open with:" iTunes—you set this in a single respresentative file's Get Info box; be sure to click "Change all". This latter solution worked for me when, mysteriously, iTunes failed to recognize older files I had ripped with SoundJam and MACast in OS 9 back in the last century.+
    +I have often been asked: "But my tracks are right there! Can't you write a script that just looks for the files in the Music folder?" It's not that easy. However I did put together iTunes Track CPR. It uses the existing data from a "dead track" to try and locate its file in the Music folder. It is not perfect (except for play counts, tag data will be rescued), but it does work well under most circumstances.+
    I am going to try the iTunes Track CPR and see if that helps.
