Help! problems upgrading itunes,wont play at all now!

hi, ive just recently upgraded itunes after a prompt to do so and now i cant play itunes at all.All i get is a message saying itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.I have tried de-installing and reinstalling,my computer is clean but i just get the same thing every time,but check this out...after days of no success i found an old version i think its 6 and it installed first time and now i have no probs,how can this be and how can i get the most up to date itunes without having to go through all that again,thinking id lost my music forever!!

In windows, goto control panel> add and remove and uninstall itunes AND quicktime. Then go here and roll down to "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
Disable your antivirus/security programs then goto apple.com to download AND SAVE itunes. when the download is done goto the location you saved it on your PC, and doubleclick it to install

Does iTunes.exe persist in the task manager or disappear again quickly. This can be a clue to the cause of the problem.
If iTunes persists this points to either firewall blocking or a damaged configuration file.
Try briefly turning off your firewall to see if iTunes will launch. Otherwise the link I will give at the end tells you how to delete the configuration file.
If iTunes doesn't appear or appears briefly and then disappears this may be a digital signing issue, also dealt with in the link.
It is a good idea to scan your PC for viruses and spyware, as malware can cause problems.

If the things I suggested above don't wiork, try working through the whole article.
All this is on the assumption that your Quicktime is working normally. I am a bit worried that you have been installing and uninstalling different versions, it just complicates the issue.

Ok, Below is what worked for me somewhat.
Okay ... try downloading and saving a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe to your PC from the Apple website:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Now download a trial version of WinRAR:
http://www.rarlab.com/download.php
Open the iTunesSetup.exe with WinRAR, and try to run the standalone install of Apple Application Support from the AppleApplicationSupport.msi you find in there.
It works now BUT there are still problems. It is not allowing or recognizing my Cd/DVD player and i CANT burn. Looking still for this fix.

itunes wont play anything.i hit play and it goes to pause but does not count down.im guessing it is because of the update that i did to itunes.please help.

I am having the same problem and that didn't fix it.
I purchased a new laptop with Windows 7 64 bit. I downloaded the install file. When I double click the icon nothing happens.
I Downloaded the install cleanup utility and ran that (nothing with itunes in it).
I Downgraded the UAC to the lowest security setting.
I re-downloaded the install file and tried again.
I deleted all the temp files in the user file folder.
I made the install file compatible with Windows Vista (SP 2).
Still nothing. I double click (or right click and run as administrator) and nothing happens.

It sounds like you have some video files in iTunes that do not play when you select them in the program, but do play when you double click the files themselves. I would start by checking to see that iTunes is accessing the correct iTunes library by checking the Advanced tab of its preferences:
Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences.
Click the Advanced pane. iTunes shows the location of your iTunes Media folder.

If the location here matches the location you go to when you double click the files, then I would next use the Consilidate Library command to see if that gets iTunes to see it:

Can you please clarify your problem? iTunes on an ipad is an integral part of iOS 6, so there would be no separate update.
Was the update on your computer and if so, what version of iTunes did you have and what version did you upgrade to.

I don't know if this will work but it's worth a try. I wonder if somehow you ended up with a short inside of your iPad. Give the things below are trying to see if that helps. Good luck.
Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.

First off, I would STRONGLY suggest that a external hard drive would make you life much easier by at least being able to back up your songs on the external drive for when you need them. Even if you don't want them in the iTunes library, you can have them all ready on the external to be re-added as needed. You can get 100's of gigs for under $100 shipped.
Anyway, since you used Yamipod, are all the songs back on the computer? If so, I would go ahead and restore the iPod, let iTunes then resync everything back to the iPod, then switch it back to manual and see if the restore and resync clears up the issue.

what is the deal. surely you can test your own software before rolling it out..
I have a 2.16ghz Macbook pro, osx 10.4.7 and its a reasonably vanilla install.
nothing out of the ordinary.
So why is it that Itunes wont play a single file. it just sits there, looking like its paused, but when in reality its not. I can drag the playhead thru the track, but nothing happens.. it just wont start playing.
I have tried removing the library file and rebuilding it, i have tried repairing permissions.
this is lame. lift your game.

First, get rid of any offending third party software. That is the most frequent cause of problems with iTunes updates.
