  • Server 10.8 Profile Manager error

I hope some one just help me out here:
Last week, shortly after the 2.2 update came out, I installed the update. Unfortunately, doing so made our NetInstall service run very badly. We rolled back the Server.app from a Time Machine backup. That caused out Profile Manager process to not be able to find it's info. I suspect it was updated with the first 2. update and rolling back the server.app confused it. So, we reapplied the update to 2.2. That allowed Profile Manager to work, and we have been living with the poorly working NetImage. Now, we seem to have an error with Profile Mamager not being able to start due to errors. I would like to restore the database from Time machine and perhaps even the postgreSQL and DeviceManager process to get it working, but I can't figure out which folders I need to restore.  I've spent the better aprt of the day surfing for answers to a non functional Profile Manager, but nothing works.
What is the proper location for the Profile Manager database ?
How can I tell that postgreSQL is looking in the right place ?
Can I reindex the database to repair it ?

  • Lion Server Profile Management error reading settings

After starting up Lion Server the profile management pane showed an error. It is also not possible to login via de browser to the profile manager. How can I fix this? Using the default httpd.conf file did not help.
This is one of the many problems I have with Lion server that does not work as expected. So if someone has a solution to remove all profile settings from my client MBP than I can try to revert back to Lion on my server also.
I hope this question is also read by someone of apple as this is not the quality I expected from apple. It lacks decent documentation and the setup of Portable Home Users is not possible. I thought apple product were self explaining and intuitive. This reminds me of the old Windows days: sitting days to figure it out and use a lot of terminal commands.

  • Profile Manager "Error Reading Settings"

If you get the above error in the PM you may check the profilemanager.log for the entry "ServermgrDevicemgr: Exception caught No such file or directory - file_store/......". If so, it seems that the "Everyone Profile" is corrupt. In my case it was cause by a certificate. After I removed the certificate the PM seetings could be read again. I placed the certificate into another profile (device group) where it caused no trouble.
The certificate itself is valide and works well. I am not sure if this behaviour is a common bug in the PM or only related to my certifiacte.

I think what happened was that I tried to restart the Profile Manager from Server.app to see if that would clear up the error but it wouldn't start up again. However It turns out that I could start it from the command line with:
    sudo serveradmin start devicemgr
Once I could get to the web UI and remove the certificate from Settings for Everyone, everything is working fine again. Thanks.

  • Mountain Lion Server Profile Manager error

I recently setup a Mountain Lion server (10.8.2) to manage multiple ipads and Macs with Profile Manager in a PC oriented Active Directory environment.
I setup an SSL certificate and bound to the organization's active directory (with Directory Utility) and that all works fine.
We are now simply trying to assign the rights to individual users to use Profile Manager and running into trouble.
Using the Server app, we click on a user (or group) and then go to assign rights (with the gear menu).
The list of items to assign is supposed to come up.
Instead the list never comes up.
Can anyone shed any light on what we have to do?

What are you trying to do
Assign what users can use the profile managers web interface
or restrict what users can and can't have devices registered to their name in profile manager

  • Please help: Recovery Manager Error code during system recovery

The notebook is a HP Pavilion dv2000. When accessing Recovery manager after pressing F11 upon bootup and selecting System Recovery it comes up the the screen:
Factory image recovery where is attempts to reformat the windows partition on the Hard drive and reinstall the original content
Within a few seconds of the above mentioned it brings up an Error:
ERROR 0X4001001300001002. If this issue continues contact HP Support.
    Rebooting it does not help.

There is nothing other than the power cord plugged in. I did run the diagnostic from the Recovery manager just on the Cwindows partition) and it came back fine. I'm currently running it from the cmos diagnostics to see if it gives me anything different, so far the quicktest came back fine.

Also my current erolled devies will not change when I add settings or make any other changes.
    Thanks!

I think I figured out a few things and I was able to avoid a reset which I desperately wanted to avoid.  Below is what I did in my case.
The error messages above also corresponded to error code 78 in the console.  I ended up finding the link for device manager of
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4488880?start=0&tstart=0
I also had to follow the same concept in the above thread for amavisd errors of which there is a script in
    /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/System/Library/ServerSetup/CommonEx tras
I am no expert by any means (but am learning due to the fact that Server.app isn't really for non-experts which contrary to the marketing literature.  (One has to know a lot about the quirks in the product so it's still an experts game and every call to apple comes back with "Do a clean reinstall!")  However, this error seems to come about by missing log files.  (Specifically profilemanager.log and amavisd.log of which the above procedures added them back.)  It seems that some processes work fine and recreate a missing log file while others treat the situation as an unknown error and the process fails.  Again, it was resolve for me by running the devicemgr setup script in the above discussion.apple solution which added the log files back.
Then I tried to figure out why the log files went missing and in my case it comes about by using the junk cleaning routine of which I will not mention the brand to keep life more simple - but there are many equivalent programs on the market it seems.   In this I used the utility routine that also has a junk cleansing routine, which also removes log files "as clutter".  So without going into the never ending religious argument of using such a utility or weither a process should work with a missing log file, or whose fault it is, suffice it to say that I concluded that if I use such a utility, there will be many strange errors that come about because what the utility, and I might add most common users, sees has junk and clutter, the experts perceive as critical files and the system comes to a screeching halt.  Conclusion: Don't use a junk file cleaner unless one really knows what one is doing at the system level.
I am no technical expert and plan to stay that way.  So for now on the server, since I want to use the various network user constructs of server, I plan to stay just 100% apple on the server.  I have found that if I depart, even slightly, from that principle, it does not go well and my weekend is suddenly shot.  (I am sure it is different for those with some form of technical acumen surrounding servers, but that is not me.)  I love the concept of a server and network users in my house and hope that Apples continues to make server.app more dummy proof as well as more robust for users like me.
Anyway, I hope this post helps others and I am happily using a working system at the moment.

So one day when I opened my mozilla firefox Ive got the "Firefox is already running but not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing firefox process,or restart your system."
So I checked my task manager but there is no process,I then checked hours in the internet to find a solution.Yes,I also checked for solutions in this site. Then,I try uninstalling and restarting,it also didn't work,Next I also tried downloading profilemanager and tried to run it but as unlucky as I can be,it also didn't work. Please help :(

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • Profile Manager Error after logon

Greetings, I am working on getting profile manger working on 10.7.3. After turning profile manger I can get to a logon screen but after I logon I get this error in my browser. I am guessing the issue is with apache routing but I don't know.

Okay, I have have solved this issue for my system it was two fold. 1. I had a DNS issue with my server. 2. I had an issue with a godaddy wild card certificate. The DNS issue was pretty easy to solve, the wild card certificate took some digging into. This issue was caused on how lion server was chaining the certificates. Lion for some reason added the star certificate twice before moving to the intermediate certificate. In the folder:
    /etc/certificates/
    Look for the files :
    *.(FQDN).cert.pem
    *.(FQDN).chain.pem
    *.(FQDN).concat.pem
    *.(FQDN).key.pem
Open the *.(FQDN).cert.pem and find out our start cert generally notice the last 8 or so characters.
then open *.(FQDN).chain.pem and check to see if your start(wildcard) cert is added twice if it is then remove one of them. Save the file and check the chaining to see if it errors out.
    Sincerly,
    Tim

  • Profile Manager Error 401

I'm trying to download the Enrollment profile but it keeps coming up with the error:

The iPad I'm trying to download it on is on version 5.1.1

is your trust certificate installed on the device

  • Firefox won't open, error msg = can't find profile; deleted all app.data to rid new Win 7 Total Security virus - tried both v 4.0 & v 3.6 (now no error msg either). Can't open profile manager, can't open safe mode. pls help

My mother's computer was infected with the new "Win 7 Total Security" virus (apparently a fake antivirus program) - corrupted real av. To remove, we followed online advice to delete everything in AppData, for all programs, plus some other stuff. We moved it all to a flashdrive for safety, but after successfully removing virus, likewise cleaned & reformatted flashdrive. This apparently deleted Firefox profile(s), and after uninstalling & reinstalling, Firefox still won't open - I can't create a new profile. With v 4.0, I get an error message about not being able to find the profile. Found advice on how to open profile manager, but it won't open. Found reference to version 4 dispensing with profile manager, so tried installing version 3.6 again; still won't open, still can't open profile manager, but now no error message at all.

THANX for the reply cor-el. I've never had a problem using just "firefox -p", but i did use the full path like you advised after i read the profile manager article here before i posted my question. Unfortunately it didn't work. I've backed up all 3 profiles from the "%appdata% profile" file, and also from my remaining main profile that i'm on right now. I decided i'm going to uninstall ff3.6.28 & upgrade to "firefox 11" this weekend and hopefully create the other 2 profiles along with my main one. I do like in the newer versions of FF the tabs on top like googles chrome because it gives you more room on the page. I also like some other features too, but the main reason i kept my old version both times is because the newer versions didn't seem to load pages any faster than version 3.6.28. I'm not going to worry about some themes/personas not being compatible with ff11. I'll find some new ones. I think when i tried "ff9" awhile back along with my current version, i just deleted the shortcut that the article said to create on the desktop and still had all 3 profiles & no problems like i have now. In case your curious, the article on how to create more than one version of firefox at the same time was on the site "Dottech.org>[How To] Tip: Install multiple versions of Firefox to test before upgrading to latest release". It works but i obviously did something different this time that caused this problem. THANX again for your time/help, i do appreciate it.

  • 'Profile Server Not Available' error when trying to access Profile Manager

    Hello all,
I'm totally, totally new to OS X Server, but I have a class full of new iMac's and MacBook's that I want to be able to manage all in one go. Don't really mind about File Sharing, access from anywhere in the world etc. but I just want to be able to push updates to all of them at once as well as manage some default settings for them all.
I've set up most of what I can see I need to do in OS X Server such as the server itself as a .local, Profile Manager, Websites, VPN, Open Directory and Software Update, but when I try to access my .local through any browser, I get the main screen, but get an error page when I try to go into Profile Manager that says 'Profile Server Not Available. Please wait a moment and try again.'
Can anyone suggest where they think I might be going wrong or need to do? I can give more information or screenshots if needed, juts let me know. Any help super appreciated
    Yours,
    Elliot

    Hey,
Sorry, because I'm so new I don't quite get what you mean. A little more information is I'm using my MacBook which is connected to the same WiFi network as the other Mac's. What do you mean by the FQDN?
I'm able to type in the IP address etc. on any other of the Mac's and it loads the 'Welcome to OS X Server' page, it's just when I select Profile Manager, I get the error. Thanks for getting back though, appreciated the quick help.. and I'm still super stuck. I've got a whole day on it today ha.

  • Firefox won't start; no error message; profile manager also won't start. What can I do?

Suddenly, firefox won't start. I get no error message--it just won't open. System restore to a month before the problem did not help.
From the suggestions on this page: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox%20will%20not%20start... I did not recently install add-ons or clean the registry, so I think it may be a profile problem. But profile manager will not open--only a tiny window with a white rectangle and no text.
I would like to not lose all my bookmarks. And I would like to continue using Firefox.
    What can I do?

dmcritchie, thank you for your reply!
Before I received your response, I tried something that seems to have worked. I used Chrome to go to the Firefox website and downloaded Firefox (without uninstalling it first) and went through the installation process again. For some reason, this worked, even though I already had the latest version of Firefox, and I can now open Firefox successfully.
If it stops working again, I will try your suggestion. In the meantime, thank you much!

  • 404 Error when viewing Wiki or Profile Manager in a browser

I have been struggling with Lion Server for a numbers of months now and am very frustrated with the difficulty of diagnosing what seem to be very simple issues. In particular I have Profile Manager and Wiki Server both behaving properly when configuring, starting and stopping them in Server Admin. They look as if all is OK. However when I try to go to the Wiki or Profile Manager in a browser I just get a 404 error.
I have searched and searched for a solution but have been totally unsuccessful. If anyone can help me I would most possibly become a friend on their Facebook page!
    Cheers
