Help! PrPro 5.5.2 and nVidia 285.62 on GTX 285

Ok, I had posted about this about a month ago over in the main forum, and thought I had solved the problem, but it's back. Unfortunately I can't find my original post to resurrect it, as Jive seems to have wiped my post history beyond two weeks ago... :-(
Anyway, I bought PrPro 5.5 to work with RED Epic footage, and installed it alongside my 5.0.3 on Win 7x64 Ultimate. I ran all updates (5.5.2), and then on my first startup got the message that I wouldn't have CUDA support since there was no CUDA enabled card installed. I knew that wasn't right cause I used CUDA all the time in 5.0.3, so I checked and found my drivers were significantly out of date. I updated my nVidia drivers from nVidia's site, rebooted, and relaunched PrPro. Everything worked great. Until I had to export my first video. During export I consistently got an nVidia driver error, saying that my system resources didn't match what was required by the program (something about it couldn't get small enough packages for the video card to process), and it had to close. Closing the nVidia driver error box also force quit PrPro. I discovered that by running without CUDA I had no issues and could successfully export my video. However, I can't afford the time to run without CUDA as it significantly speeds up the processing time, especially with multiple layers of Epic footage.
So ultimately I did a complete wipe and reinstall of the entire system, starting with the most recent non-beta drivers available for the nVidia card, and put only 5.5 on the system and fully updated to 5.5.2. It recognized my CUDA card and there were no issues. I've worked off and on (very light work over Christmas) until today when I dug back into my big Epic project and started doing some basic scaling and speed adjustments on some clips, and some primary CC with the RGB CC and Three-Way CC. I frequently get the same nVidia error message that I had gotten before I did the wipe and re-install, and it's killing my workflow and productivity. I turned CUDA back off again this afternoon to get this one timeline finished and exported, but I really need it back.
What changed about CUDA support between 5.0.3 and 5.5.2 that has screwed things up with my GTX 285? And what do I need to do to fix things and get them back up and running? Before the wipe and reinstall I had tried multiple versions of the nVidia drivers, incluidng rolling back as far as I could go and keep CUDA support, and the new beta drivers that Ann and others had recommended. Unfortunately purchasing a newer graphics card probably isn't an option since I've already spent over $2300 in the last couple months on hardware and software upgrades.

Ok.... I just turned CUDA back on and ran it as hard as I could (Secondary CC, etc.) to make it crash again. Here's the screenshot of the error message:

I have seen this Event Log Message:
Your hardware configuration does not meet minimum specifications needed to run the application. The application must close.
What does it mean?
The most common cause for this issue is that the application was unable to continue due to hardware limitations. The workload the application sent to the Graphics Card could not be broken into small enough pieces to be processed.
How can this be fixed?
Verify you are running the most recent driver for your application. Drivers certified by Professional Software vendors can be found herehttp://www.nvidia.com/page/partner_certified_drivers.html. If you application is not listed, install the most recent driver for your graphics board from www.nvidia.com/drivers. You should also check with your application provider for any updates or patches to your application.
You can also try manipulating a smaller image as you may be running out of video memory with extremely large images.  If none of these work, you likely need a more powerful Graphics Card to handle this application.
If you are certain that your graphics card meets the application hardware requirements and none of the above suggestions solve the problem, please file a support request here by clicking on "Ask a Question" near the top of this page. Also, I've noticed that it generally happens ONLY after PrPro has eaten up more than 4GB of system memory (PrPro memory configuration is set to Performance and to allow PrPro access to 8GB of my 12GB of system memory):

  • HP Envy 15 Graphics Problem with Windows 8.1 (Intel and NVidia Graphics). Help!

    I bought an HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j013ea about 6 months ago and I have had a major problem with the graphics that I cannot seem to solve. I think it started when I updated to Windows 8.1, even though I am not 100% certain.
    I have noticed the following three problems, and I think they are related:
    Some windows (such as Chrome, Skype, or even Device Manager or other windows) are very blurry compared to others.
    The firefox menu window has some deformed black arrows instead of the normal ones.
    When playing a game (specifically, Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2), after a while I get an error that the computer has ran out of memory. However, according to task manager, only about 50% is in use, not to mention that I have 8 GB of RAM + 2 GB graphics memory. At the same time, the computer gets rather loud (like a fan working overtime) and hot.
    The laptop has both Intel and NVidia graphics, and both are enabled in Device Manager. To be honest, I have no idea which is used when, or how to check that (let me know if there is a way)
    I have tried the following without success:
    Uninstalling the Intel graphics driver from device manager and installing a version I downloaded from the HP website for my laptop and OS. After that, Windows would NOT BOOT, and I had to do a system restore.
    Uninstalling the Intel graphics from Programs and Features, and installing 2 different versions from the Intel website. Nothing changed.
    Updating Nvidia driver through GeForce Experience. Nothing changed.
    Updating Intel drivers from Windows Update. Nothing changed.
    Quite frankly I am not sure what the problem could be, since the graphics versions are supposed to be compatible with WIndows 8.1. I also don't get why some windows are blurry and others are not. I am thinking the computer uses only the Intel graphics and not the Nvidia (at least in the blurry windows), but even if that was the case (and it shouldn't be), I don't think I should be having this problem.
    At this point, I really need help. My graphics details are:
    Intel HD Graphics 4600: Driver version: 10.18.10.3412
    NVidia GeForce GT 740M: Driver version: 335.23
    NVidia GeForce Experience version: 1.8.2

    I had a similar problem with a Dell laptop.  I found the problem was the laptop wanted to switch between the Intel and NYIDIA video cards.  It would switch to the Intel when high graphics was not required then to the NIVIDIA when high graphics was required.  The laptop does this to save power when high graphics is not required but it caused problems with some applications, specifically high graphics games.
    For me the solution was to disable the Intel graphics processor.  You can do this by right clicking on your Wallpaper, select the NIVIDIA Control Panel, then select Set Physx Configuration.  You will see a dropdown box labeled Select Physx Processor.  It is set to Auto by default.  This allows the switching I described. Select this dropdown box and select your NIVIDIA processor.  This will prevent the laptop from switching and force it to use your NVIDIA processor exclusively.

    I just installed Arch base onto my system with my Nvidia GTS 250 Graphics card, however I am unable to start a x session after installing xfce4 and nvidia-304xx-lts followed by the command nvidia-xconfig and reboot.  When I try to issue startxfce4 I get an error pointing to /var/log/Xorg.0.log as follows

    The first code block contains my Xorg.0.log however I just tryed modprove nvidia and recieved FATAL: Module nvidia not found. which I discovered was solved by someone here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=961852 however when I tryed to do a pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils I get a unresolved confilict with nvidia-304xx-utils which after trying to remove with pacman -Rs shows dependencies with cario, Im not sure how far back I should start removing things to solve this conflict or how to go abouts solving it

    I did some more looking and found I could force the uninstall of nvidia-304xx-lts with pacman -Rdds nvidia-304xx-lts and after revisiting the Nvidia page on the wiki for the dozenth time I started thinking maybe I needed nvidia-304xx oposed to the lts release as google as kindly pointed out lts is long term support and maybe my kernel was not lts and thus conflicting.  This turned out to be the case, after removing the ofending lts version of the driver, replacing with the correct nvidia-304xx , another nvidia-xconfig and reboot followed by modprobe nvida and startxfce4 my wounderfull xfce is now running as I type this messsage in firefox.  Thank you for you help, as you asking about the modprobe output caused the chain of events leading to the success.

  • Sever issue with Xorg and Nvidia Drivers

    I run a 2.6.20 kernel with Xorg and Nvidia drivers all from arch rep on a Asus NV6200. Everything works fine, except one thing. When I exit X, the monitor shuts down imediatly. It wont start up at all, not even by manual startup. I cant understand what happens. The configuration is correct, is done with the correct settings for my video-card and monitor taken directly from the documentation. I cant use my X server at all since several days ... I checked the logs and there are no EE's. Anyway ... here is the log. Help anyone can help, I cant use X at all.

    No ... the problem is in the kernel that comes precompiled.
    I did this test.
    The first time I installed the kernel I unloaded nvidiafb since I dont like it.
    When I install nvidiafb back something strange happends. Nvidia module fails to load.
    The modprobe sais it cannot find the device nvidia.ko ... but it is there!
    So my best guess is, there is something with the kernel. Any ideas?

  • CS5 and Nvidia renderings speeds?

    I have noticed that PPro CS5 will be able to run fx. AVCHD smoothly - especially if one has a FX 3800, 4800 Q or a GTX 280.
    I have a GTX 260 - wich - it seems - is not supported. So I will proberly have to invest a lot in a new card. I have experienced a lot of different issues with PPro CS4 and AVCHD editting - slow and stuttering editting as soon as effects is added, stuttering and jittering in playback in exported files, slow rendering etc. I run on quite a system i920 2,67 Ghz - 12 GB RAM, 2 X 1TB HDs with Windows 7 64 bit - and I have the feeling that most of my experienced frustrating issues are related to PPro CS4 not being able to handle AVCHD really nice yet. Using software and bad And that my Nvidida GTX 260So I really consider buying one of these cards supported by the new Mercury engine inside PPro CS5....also have to buy the whole Adobe package as well off course...Oh My - what a lot of money Adobe and Nvidia will earn on this update...!!! ;-)
    Anyway - I have high hopes that my AVCHD footage will be much more easy to edit - and that Photoshop/Illustrator etc. will be even better.
    BUT - Wich card should one buy? How much better will the FX 4800 perfrom comapred to fx. FX 3800 or GTX 280? Any one having a qualified oppinion about that?
    I use a lot of time waiting for my PC to render fx. 25 min. video in FLV - that might take 1½-2 hours. And I can play AVCHD smoothly with the 4.2 update installed, but only without effects or tranistions. A Croosover effect makes the machine and CPU go nuts....so....hope CS5 and a new card will help me get better performance over all...but how much and will I be able to just buy GTX 280 or do I have to spend a lot more and get the FX 4800?

    I'm using linux-ice, linux-lqx and linux-ck kernels with nvidia-dkms and nvidia-hook. Everything is ok, with kde upping.
    I've started from stock kernel. During the dkms (or hook, I don't remember) pacman says that nvidia and nvidia(dkms or hook) were incompatible... remove nvidia? I've selected yes
    After it, stock kernel don't upps the kde... stays on black screen. Login on tty1, 2 or 3 is possible, with ctrl+alt+F1...F3, but, kde with kernel don't works
    no errors appears.
    to force stock kernel been compiled by hook, I wait a while, when using the other kernels, and yesterday I did a "Syyu"
    new kernel, new linux-headers too... but still blank screen
    I only can use stock kernel and Nvidia driver, not dkms/hook installed one?

    Ok, i know little about dkms / mkinitcpio hooks , but best option seems to try and build the nividia module manually to get more info.

  • GPU acceleration fix for Dell Intel and Nvidia chipsets with external monitor?

    I have a Dell XPS laptop with both integrated Intel chips and Nvidia chips and I can only get the GPU acceleration to work when I don't have any external monitors plugged in.
    Is there some way I can get Illustrator to enable the Nvidia GPU and stop being confused by multiple chipsets on external monitors? I really like the live zoom.

    'm getting a little frustrated trying to get my laptop working with my LG DLP 3D ready projector to display in 3D. The projector itself will work in 3D as long as the resolution is 1024x768@120hz and the laptop's NVidia GTX 770M should have no issues driving the projector with this resolution.
    Where it seems like the problems occur is Intel HD 4600 graphics driver gets in the way every time i try to run anything 3D, the software Im using to run any 3D type files do not recognize the projector as a 3D capable device because all the laptop is using is the Intel HD 4600 graphics.
    If I could somehow turn off the Intel graphics and just force the laptop to just use the NVidia card I think all my issues will go away. I just am not having success in doing this.
    I have tried to go into the NVidia control panel and under 3D settings pick the software program that runs my 3D files and tell it to use the NVidia card...but it never works.
    I think everything is sent through the Intel graphics card regardless if the laptop is using the NVidia card (just guessing here)?
    I also tried to simply uninstall the drivers but that did not work,
    I also tried to disable the Intel graphics but it then went into some type of generic display driver mode and still would not work.
    I also went into the BIOS to look for any settings that would allow me to disable the Intel graphics card ..no luck, could not find any settings for this.
    Can someone help me with this? how can I disable the Intel graphics and force the laptop to just use the NVidia card all the time?

  • CS5.5...Matrox MXO2 Mini...and NVidia GTX285

    OK...So I installed Adobe CS5.5 and opened Premiere and all was good.  I could import footage, edit...everything.  But then I wanted it to work with my Matrox MXO2 mini for external monitoring...and Matrox just released a new update that said it would enable the MXO2 line to do just that.  GREAT, so I installed that.  And then I took out my ATI graphics card and installed my NVidia 285 that I bought for use with RESOLVE...because the card has CUDA support with Mercury Engine and all that. And after I did that I installed the latest drivers (because there was a messageOK...done.
    But now things don't work.  Not fully. 
    First I tried getting my MXO2 to work by choosing Matrox project settings.  But when I do that, I cannot see clips I load into the Preview monitor...they are black, and well, act like nothing is there. No timecode, press play, nothing happens.  If I drag from the project window into the timeline, the clips appear.  But won't play in the Program monitor.  Can't be seen, press play, nada happens.  I Match Back to a clip in the Preview monitor...I see it's timecode, but no image, and I cannot play.
    Then I made a new project, and chose the settings for the footage I was using...DVCPRO HD 720p24...from P2.  Again, I can import, but cannot see anything in the Preview monitor.  I can drag the clips onto the timeline, and NOW I can see and hear things in the Program monitor...but still nothing in the preview monitor.
    So this is really messed up and not functioning right at all.  Any clues as to why?

    I'm having a similar problem, but after quite a few hours on the phone with Matrox tech support, still no joy. 
    Computer specs:
    Mac Pro 8 core with Radeon 4870
    Matrox MXO2 Mini going to HP Dreamcolor via HDMI
    OS X 10.6.8
    CS Production Premium 5.5 (I completely flushed my system (Adobe cleaned)  free of all CS flavors before 5.5 fresh install)
    Flushed/reinstalled Matrox drivers 2.2.3.
    Settings:
    Matrox System prefs: Set Video output to 1080 (instead of Matrox follows Application)
    Adobe PP Prefs: 
    Set audio hardware to Built In Line Out (not Matrox Player),
    Set Video Player to Matrox Player (not Adobe Player)
    Good things (temporary):
    I can see Matrox Presets in PP 5.5 and create a Matrox sequence
    I can create a 1080/24p Matrox sequence and drag some color bars and tone in. 
    Picture displays on monitor and sound works fine.
    Drag in some 7D footage  and can see it play off the HDMI.  I tried importing some 7D footage as H264 and cut a short sequence. It seems to work until...
    Really Bad things:
    If I import a WAV file (or AIF or MP3) and try to set in/out points and cut it in, everything breaks:
    The Preview window now does not accept new footage and shows as non-responsive black screen
    The Spacebar and Play buttons cease to function, both in the timeline and the Preview/Record windows
    At this point, even other types of sequences (DSLR for example) no longer function and PP is quasi-dead (menu commands still work)
    Quitting/Restarting PP has no effect and all PP functionality is GONE
    Rebooting the computer and starting PP resets everything and brings back functionality until.... I bring a sound file into the Preview window. PP dead again!
    At this point, PP is not usable as an edit system (at least with Matrox).  Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Either with Matrox or another system (AJA, BMD etc.)
    I'm stumped.  I wanted to see if PP could hold its own against FCP, but this is really bad....

    last lines looks interesting, but I also checked mentioned Appendix A of README, and I found 8600M GT (PCI ID 0x0407) between supported chips.

  • Pavilion 6404y and Nvidia 9100 won't run Windows 10 at 1920x1080

    Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10.  Suddenly my display started blinking, not flickering, blinking from black back to video and so forth.  Most of the blinks are triggered by mouseovers and other movements on the screen like the % bars that appear when you're installing software.  Really irritating. I downloaded and installed latest drivers/management software from Nvidia.  I flashed with the latest ROM (so now my fan is really, REALLY noisy).  Neither option fixed the problem. For now I've lowered the display resolution to 1600 x 900, but that's lame.  I shouldn't have to lower my resolution just to run Windows 10.  1.  Does anyone know how to solve the Nvidia driver problem in Windows 10? 2.  Does anyone know how to quiet down the fan after doing a ROM update? Thanks in advance for your help!

    This procedure came from Nvidia.  Perhaps it will work for you.  I thought it made the display work a little bit better, but the driver has already crashed repeatedly, so it is probably a waste of time. Please perform a clean installation of the NVIDIA graphics driver in “Safe Mode with Networking”:

    That might be your best bet.  I thought I had an even older version in my cache, but unfortunately I must have deleted it a few days ago.  Sorry.
    Edit: Did you by chance upgrade your kernel, too?  A few times I've had trouble when upgrading the kernel.  Try reinstalling (perhaps uninstalling and reinstalling) the nvidia drivers, or try "modprobe nvidia" as root.  Hopefully one of them will do it for you.  But then again, if you're not getting errors from X and you just have a black screen, I doubt either of those will do it.

    Solved the problem is very simple - removing the nouveau. I have it was because I was in one blog/forum read that no problem with containing both nvidia and nouveau, but that one of them will be in Blacklist. But he interrupted me to upgrade. But the strangest thing - when I last updated, they do not conflict, but now whoop.
