HELP!  QT Icon bounces once, then nothing

When I click on my QT icon in the task bar, it bounces once and then nothing happens. QT fails to load. Anyone ever experience this and what the **** can I do to fix it?
Thanks!
Allen

You may be able to repair this with the 10.4.2 Stand Alone Combo Update.
This is a full install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. It has worked well for many.
EDIT: First you might try re-installing QT

Repair permissions before and after update:
Navigate to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility (Double Click to Launch) > Choose your HD in the sidebar > First Aid Tab > Click on "Repair Disk Permissions".

  • Logic Wont Start - Icon Bounces Once then nothing

Hi All, really hoping for some help here as I am freaking out and can't get my logic pro 8 to open.
The only thing I have done to my mac since it last worked was installed SampleTank 2XL, which should not have caused a problem. So just in case it was the issue I uninstalled it again.
I have ensured my computer has the latest updates.
The icon just bounces once, and then nothing, no error messages or anything to help me work out what the heck is happening.
Hope someone might be able to help.
    Thanks
    Brett

    Agreed. Download Appcleaner http://www.pure-mac.com/diag.html#appcleaner
Drag the Logic app on it, and reinstall (just the app) after deleting.

  • Firefox won't startup. Icon bounces once then stops. Mac G5 Mac OS 10.5.8 Was OK now it isn't.

Firefox won't startup so I can get to its preferences, profiles or anything else for that matter. This happens every time I try to start it up. I've recently reloaded my system software and transfered my systems settings from a backup hard drive that Time Machine (Mac app.) saved.

Firefox 4 versions and later do not run on a PowerPC Mac.
Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

For an Unofficial Firefox 4 compatible version (TenFourFox) that runs on PowerPC Macs with OS X 10.4.11 or OS X 10.5.8 you can look at:

Firefox 3.6.x (Mac OS X 10.4 and later) can be found here:

  • Safari bounces once then stops ...

I have looked through the forum and found nothing, so I am hoping that someone can help me out. I have a user with a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 who started having Safari, Software Update and the Dashboard constantly crashing. When you select either Safari or Software Update, they bounce once then quit. I have reinstalled Safari and no fix. Removed the plist file and still no fix. I even copied a known working version of Safari and no fix. Here is the crash report for safari and software update:

    Hi,
It sounds like a dependent library has gone missing or has become corrupt.
Try re-installing the 10.4.6 combo update over the users existing installation to see if it replaces to problematic files.

  • Mail bounces once then won't open

I guess that kinda sums it up. Mail, when you click on it in the dock, bounces once, then just sits there staring at me, and fails to open. I've run a Disk repair thing just in case it was accessibility, but that hasn't helped.
I looked at it in Terminal and got this:
dyld: /Applications/Mail.app/Contents/MacOS/Mail malformed library: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/HTMLDisplay.framework/Versions/A/HTMLDisplay (not a Mach-O file, bad magic number)
    Trace/BPT trap
I haven't a clue what this means! I don't suppose anyone knows how I can restore access to Mail?
    Thanks in advance!

It means that there is something wrong with your Mac OS X installation.
What does “I've run a Disk repair thing” mean? Quit all the applications and verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using (which you haven’t provided and doesn’t appear in your profile either), unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with the computer:
Mac OS X 10.3.9 Combo Update
You may also have to reinstall the following Security Update, which includes most of the security updates released after Mac OS X 10.3.9:
Security Update 2007-007 for Mac OS X 10.3.9
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk and back up before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • Safari doesn't startup; icon bounces once

Hi, i have 4 accounts on the computer and Safari on my account won't startup. The icon just bounces once and then nothing. Tried re-downloading but that didn't solve it.

    Hi and welcome....
Possibly third party add-ons causing the problem.
Follow the help here for troubleshooting; Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

  • ITunes icon bounces and then quits

iTunes app just bounces in the dock for a few seconds and then disappears. i deleted iTunes 3 & 4 libraries in the iTunes folder cos this site said that that might be the problem. That didnt work so i downloaded the latest version of itunes and dragged the com.apple.iTunes.plist file out of User/Library/Preferences, but now when i try to open the new version, it quits as soon as i click agree on the install thing. Does anyone know what im talking about or what to do cos ive been using VLC to play my music for ages now.

    Hi Jack-90,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions! ;~)
Sounds like a silly suggestion, but try putting a new iTunes icon on your Dock from your latest download. If you delete the application, you break the link between the dock and the app.
Just go to your Hard Drive>Applications and drag a fresh iTunes to the Dock.
    Good Luck

  • ITunes will not manually sync music onto my iPhone 5. When I drag my music onto the iPhone, the icon "bounces" and then the sidebar closes, not syncing the music.

I've tried restarting my computer, iTunes, unplugging my iPhone and nothing will fix it.

Also, some of the music I want to add to my iPhone will sync but some won't.

  • 970 Gaming, Help! New build, fine then nothing?

    Hi guys,
    Would appreciate any suggestions here,
Put together my new build 2 days ago,
    It consists of :-
    MSI 970 Gaming Mobo
    AMD FX 6300 3.5Ghz 6 Core
    2 x 8Gb Hyper-X Fury DDR3 1866mhz
    1 x Nvidia GTX 750
    1 x 120gb SanDisk SSD
All went together beautifully, no issues.
Powered it up and installed Win7, installed supplied mobo drivers and let Windows do it's thing, collecting updates.
Next day I came home, powered up and enjoyed 6 hours flawless performance, powered down to find Windows had a further 221 updates to install, left it to it.
Come home today, power up, starts to configure Windows updates, I walk away, return 10 minutes later to a blank screen, power LED flashing so I think it must be hibernating, attempt to wake, no response from controls, USB mouse still lit, strange.
Reset button is unresponsive, as is holding the power button down, have to turn off at PSU.
It will now power up at the button, but will not allow me to reset or force power down from front panel, I get no display at all from power up, monitors display no signal.
    So far I've :-
Reseated the GPU, Ram, Eventually the CPU aswell.
    Checked all power connections,
    Reset the CMOS,
left PSU unplugged and CMOS battery out,
    threatened it with a hammer.
Visually all components are fine. No beeps for errors due to no speaker.
Any help/suggestions would be MUCH appreciated,
    Thanks!

    Cheers for the replies guys,
Running with a 600w fractal design PSU,
    3.3v 24a, 5v 20a, 12v1 30a, 12v2 22a, -12v 0.3a, 5vsb 3a.
    I have also : -
Jumped the JFP1 power pins but knew it was beyond this anyway,
Tried booting without the GFX card and various configurations of the ram, 1 stick, various slots, no sticks etc.
Still getting no response from jumping the power on the MB now, but jumping the 20pin PSU signal cable brings the PSU to life and drives fans and lights.
About to remove mobo from case and try the non conductive test but don't have much hope.
Am I looking as a faulty mobo? Or could CPU be a culprit?
    Thanks guys

  • IMovie give a half-hearted bounce, then nothing. Before I re-install...

I couldn't sleep last night, decided to tinker around and do a little video editing but I had a blonde moment and attempted to import a video with a / in the title and naturally got the "error -37" message.
    D'oh!!
When I attempted to relaunch iMovie, the icon bounced once then nothing. I went inside my Home folder, opened the Library, opened Preferences, and deleted: com.apple.imovie3.plist
    No dice.
Is my only option left to re-install iMovie? Am I missing something? Did I accidentally kill iMovie? (I know, killing an App. sounds ludicrous and one reason I love macs so much b/c they're so forgiving, but still...)
Before I attempt to unearth my restore/iLife discs, I wanted to check with the wise, all-knowing Mac Pooh-bahs here.
    Thanks so much, in advance!
900 mhz iBook, WOOT!   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I think first thing to do is some basic system maintenance. Start with this page and try the stuff there and see if that gets you anywhere...

My usual routine when problems pop up is MacJanitor, Repair Disk Permissions, then cache Out X, followed by a restart. And I always do these before creating a DVD in iDVD.

  • Apps won't launch, just bounce once.  help please!

Out of the blue (I haven't downloaded anything recently or done anything out of the normal) several apps (safari, iTunes and a few others) won't launch. They bounce once and nothing. I've repaired disk permissions and tried launching under another user, nothing working. I can't remember what OS I have, I haven't updated it since I bought like 4 or 5 years ago if that helps at all. Help?

In order to help, some specific info is necessary - for your OS, please click on "about this mac" under the Apple (top left corner) and it should tell you under the Mac OS X which version you are running. Then also copy whatever info is underneath (Processor, Memory). Also, you say you haven't downloaded anything - are you saying that you haven't run Software Update since you got the Macbook?

  • When I run iDVD the icon bounces in the tray but then is unresponsive

    hi guys,
    has anyone seen this before?
I run iDVD and it bounces, but then nothing. I tried to "open" a project using the pulldown at the top of my screen, but ...nothing.
    advice? thanks!

THANKS !! old toad, that was the trick. I never would have known that so I appreciate your help.
    have a great day!
ps. Bengt, you are so right.. you have to have plenty of free disk space for these things to work. I keep that in mind.

  • Mail icon Bounces but doesn't open

when I try to open my mail the mail icon bounces once in the dock and then nothing happens. I have auto update so i'm running the latest software. I can retrieve my mail from a website but I can't see my contacts or anything. No other application seems to be affected.
    Help please!

    HI Sonia,
    Have you tried repairing permissions?
That is always the first thing I do when something doesn't behave as expected.
Choose HD> applications>Utilities>disk utility. Open it and click on your hard drive icon, then choose repair permissions from the bottom of the panel. I don't usually bother to verify first but someone might disagree with me
    Let it run.
I usually go off and have a coffee break or something.
I also take a shot of the finished permissions so that if I have to give anyone information for troubleshooting I have a report of it.
a selective screen shot can be taken by using shift+command[apple key}+4 [all at the same time]
this puts a "pneg picture" on your desktop. I change the name to todays date, keep the pneg extension and file them in a suitably named folder for a month, just to be sure.
Sorry if you knew how to do it. but someone who doesn't might read the post and find it useful.
    Hope this helps
If not post back and maybe someone will have another answer.
Warmest wishes and welcome to "discussions" a great community .
