Help - Query Builder!

I am running windows xp with Oracle 9i Net client to connect to 8.1.7 database. I need to know if any one knows if query builder is bundled in any package certified for XP.
I have query builder in forms 6i but it does not work under XP. I noticed that Jdeveloper has a product called query builder, but looks nothing like the one in forms 6i. Is
this a totally differnt product or it's replacment?
Thanks for any help.

Hi Dave,
In 9i, Query Builder stand alone has been obsoleted. It's still accessible in the Reports Builder, but I don't know if that helps you.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for doing joins in query builder?
Thanks!

Click on the left side of the screen at the
arrow. Type in the where clause without
actually typing in "where". You can actually include the columns in the where clause by checking on the columns in the tables present on the right side. Once you are done, press ENTER.
You are done creating where clause. You can look at the SQL it created for you by clicking on the menu button called "show SQL".
Hope that helps,

P.S: If you attend one of our reports or forms - I class we teach this in class. Moreover, the course material we give out has a complete section on Report Builder.
Go to http:\\education.oracle.com for more info on class info.

• Help with Query Builder

Hi,
I am trying to get a daily statistics of failed instances using Query Builder. I tried to use fields like SI_UPDATE_TS and SI_STARTTIME to filter instances with in a date range, but date range functions does not seem to work. Is there documentation somewhere as to which fields can be used or how the query should be formatted to get results like this?
Thanks
Ajith

Hello Ajith,
The Query Builder interface is actually rather limited, as you have found out yourself. I don't know if you have any programming experience, but the Query Builder is nothing more than an interface which will use the SDK in the background to talk to the CMS. In other words, if you know how to program for your BO XI deployment (Java or .NET), you can write the logic necessary to retrieve whatever information you want. You'll also find that the SDK documentation contains an explanation (though sometimes limited) for the properties and members that are available.
Although using the SDK might seem overwhelming at first, it's actually quite easy and far more powerful than the Query Builder alternative. Also, Business Objects hosts quite a few code samples that should easily get you started. There's also a dedicated SDK forum for all specific issues relating to development.
Some links to get you up and running:
[Developer Library|https://boc.sdn.sap.com/developer/library]
[Code Samples|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/businessobjects-samples]
[Business Objects SDK Application Development Forums|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/businessobjects-sdk-forum]
Hope this helps!
Kind regards,
Kristof

• Help with Query Builder please

Hi,
I would like to query the system database for reports using ftp, email, and unmanaged disk as Destinations. I am not familar with the datafields in the BOXI database nor with the Query Builder syntax or SQL type queries. Can someone provide samples of this type of query and possibly the exact field names to be included.
I would actually like to design a Crystal report that would return this information as needed. Something like...
Report name Report location Type of Destination Actual Destination specified
Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately these properties are nested within the results you will receive if you query for any of your individual reports within Query Builder. Try this out for reference:
select top 1 * from ci_infoobjects
where si_name = 'YOURREPORTNAME'
and si_instance = 1
Nested properites cannot be included in the select clause of your query. For the majority of nested properties such as instance destinations, you'll need to either develop script to retrieve this information or utilize a 3rd party product (System Profiler, etc) that has this information available and pre-build reports.

• Unable to load Query Builder component

Hello,
When I try to refresh a report in Crystal Reports 10, it displays this error message:
"Failed to load database information."
"Details: Unable to load Query Builder component."
Then, when I try to register querybuilder.dll, RegSvr32 gives this error:
"querybuilder.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found."
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Graham,
Thank you for your reply.
This is a new install.
As my PC's administrator, I tried as you suggested. However, I am still getting this error message when I try to run an existing report:
"Failed to load database information."
"Details: Unable to load Query Builder component."

They mention "You are in the Taxonomy Query Builder iView"....
Wich authorization do I need?? Where is the iView??...
Thanks in advance.

Search for ContentManager role in the user admin and assign that role to your user id or the group you are in.
Once it is added, Content Manager role will come in Top level navigation.
Then navigate to Content Manager -> Classification-> Taxonnomy Query Builder.

• Internal errors during Query Builder

Please help me to correct a problem. Database user has a very simple cube: a measure with two dimensions. User (named "warehouse") owns it, the fact table, the dimension tables etc.; client application connects using warehouse account too.
While QueryBuilder makes a data source, one dimension (providers) fails at the some selections; for example, selections "top 10" and "last 3" works, but selection "measure value > 10000" fails; the other dimension (services) works great with all selections tried.
"Fails" means that selection step can be selected (moved from "available" to "selected" box), but cannot be configured (edited) at any manner, both in the left and right boxes - for example, I cannot edit value "10000". This selection cannot be applied too. Visually query builder does nothing, but prints exception trace (see below).

• Enabling the Data Editor in Query Builder 6

Hi,
The help in Query Builder 6 says:
Note: Because the Data Editor enables you to change or delete vital data, Query Builder is shipped with the Data Editor disabled. Contact your system administrator if you cannot activate the Data Editor and you feel you should have access to it.
Anyway I would like to know how to enable this but have yet to find any documentation anywhere on how to do so, does anyone know how this is done? I know in Oracle Browser all you had to do was add a row in Browser_Profile but Query Builder does not have this.
Thanks in advance.
Eric

I don't have an answer for you but I need your help: Can you tell me if there appeared a manual for Query Builder somewhere?? I can't find anything, even not in this database.
thank you!

• Automating Query Builder Functionality?

Hi,
My project requires up to date information on the currently live File Repository Server. I know this information can be found by manually entering a SQL statement into the Query Builder Tool. However, I have been asked to create a script that performs this task automatically and repeatedly. When the details of the FRS change, the up to date information must be logged to the Windows Event log from which the information will be lifted by our company's internal log monitoring tool.
If anyone can give me an idea of how I might do this I would certainly appreciate the help. I would also be thankful for any suggestions for alternative solutions to the one outlined above. For instance is there a given pattern I can search any of the BOE log files for to gather the required info?
I'm a total newbie, so apologies if any of the above sounds a bit naiave or just down right stupid...
Best Regards
David

BOE provides SDK to access the CMS. Please look at http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2SP2/en/devsuite.htm for more info on the SDK. You have the option from choosing from Java/webservice or .NET SDK.

• Using presentation variables selected in dashboard prompt in query builder

In dashboard prompt I have made four dropdowns(have four presentation variables) and based on these values selected, can the Query Builder generate dynamic reports based on the presentation variables selected?
I will provide the link(i.e Link of BI publisher where I stored the report) displayed to the user based on Four presentation variables.
If we click on that link can we use the presentation variables in where clause of Query Builder in BI Publisher?
Please help me out
Thanks in Advance

- OK. In the second prompt, instead of setting Default to SQL Results, set it to Specific Value.
- Then insert '{pres_var}' in the window. I got it to work this way.
- It supplied the PV as the default in the second prompt after hitting "Go" on the first prompt.
Hi, thanks for your suggestion but I don't need to have the value of the presentation variable itself as the prompt default. The variable is a filter for a specific SQL clause and the default is the result of this SQL.
Cheers

• How to specify an outer join in query builder

I've very quickly built a large query with the query builder, and it works fine, but only produces 9 out of 2200 records - so I need to change it to an outer join.
My problem is that I can't seem to find a way to specify an outer join. I've tried editing the query that query builder formed, but it won't let me.
I know I can capture the query, edit it and run it in sql developer, and that works fine, but I want to use query builder as it is the fastest way I know of to quickly add and remove items - my users are unsure of exactly what to include.
I know it is kind of a trivial question, but i've searched the forum, the manual, the web and no luck
Thanks for any help you can give
Glenn

Hi Glenn,
When you use the Query Builder to create the sql statement, you should click on the empty square to the right of the fields on each table to create the join. When you've done this, you should see a line drawn between the two tables. Click on this line and a small popup appears allowing you to select inner, left outer or right outer joins.
Once the report has been created, though, you need to edit the statement. For example, if you use the Query Builder to join DEPT to EMP based on the DEPTNO field on both tables, you get:
select "DEPT"."DEPTNO" as "DEPTNO",
"DEPT"."DNAME" as "DNAME",
"DEPT"."LOC" as "LOC",
"EMP"."EMPNO" as "EMPNO",
"EMP"."ENAME" as "ENAME",
"EMP"."JOB" as "JOB",
"EMP"."MGR" as "MGR",
"EMP"."HIREDATE" as "HIREDATE"
from "EMP" "EMP",
"DEPT" "DEPT"
where "DEPT"."DEPTNO"="EMP"."DEPTNO"Change this to:
select "DEPT"."DEPTNO" as "DEPTNO",
"DEPT"."DNAME" as "DNAME",
"DEPT"."LOC" as "LOC",
"EMP"."EMPNO" as "EMPNO",
"EMP"."ENAME" as "ENAME",
"EMP"."JOB" as "JOB",
"EMP"."MGR" as "MGR",
"EMP"."HIREDATE" as "HIREDATE"
from "EMP" "EMP"
LEFT OUTER JOIN "DEPT" "DEPT" ON "DEPT"."DEPTNO"="EMP"."DEPTNO"Andy

• Results in Query Builder Differ From Report Results

I've got a report I built in SSRS using an SSAS dataset. The problem is that the results differ between the query builder result set and the actual report. For some reason, when running the actual report, certain rows are being filtered out, but yet those
same rows appear in the result set when validating the query in the query builder.
Here's the result set as it appears in query builder:
...and here are the results of the actual report:
As you can see, 3M and Angie's popcorn are not returned in the report. I have no filters defined on the report at all.
This appears to be happening with other result sets for the same report.
No idea why the results are accurate in query builder and then off in the actual report.
Any help would be appreciated!
A. M. Robinson

Hi A. M. Robinson,
The issue may be caused by the data cache. When we preview a report, the report processor runs all the queries for datasets in the report using the current parameter defaults, and saves the results as a local data cache (.rdl.data) file. We can continue
to design our report without incurring the overhead of retrieving this data again if we make no changes to either the report dataset queries or the report parameters. Please to delete the cache (.rdl.data) file try to solve the issue.
Reference: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms157366.aspx
Alternative, you can create a similar report to check if the issue is persist.
If the issue is persist, could you please post more detail information about your report design? It is benefit for us to do further analysis.
