Help?! Question transferring images to new collection

I would really appreciate some help with this!
Up until about six months ago I ran lightroom 2 on a windows laptop. I recently purchased a macbook pro and have been running lightroom 2 on it as well. I got busy and started working on the new laptop, building up a fair sized catalogue. I then wanted to move my old catalogue (from the windows laptop) onto the new computer. The images were already on an external hard drive so I just imported the files from that external into lightroom on the mac. What I didn't consider is that it didn't bring with it all of the edits, ratings, color filters, etc.
Is there a quick way to bring that information over without having to go back and export the catalogue from the windows lightroom?

As you have now moved the folder in Mac OS via Finder you should have question marks in your Mac-catalog for all these folders.
Is that what you mean with "you lost all of the changes made to the photos"?
The way out now is, question-marked folder by question-marked folder, to right-click (oh sorry, that would be ctrl?command?-click now that you are on a Mac) and choose from the context menu "Find missing folder". This will open a dialog box from where you need to point at the new destination of the missing folder.
*Changes made to the photos* are DB-records in the LR-catalog, and as you have not done anything to them they should still be there, their effects visible once you will have re-established the broken links to the folders.
That is what I hope at least - I am uncomfortable with your error message "an unknown error occurred while moving a photo".
I am running LR 3.3 on Windows7, and I do get such errors also from time to time, usually without any further explanation, in the development module. But it does not have any visible effect for me, just the annoying error message sits there. Closing LR and starting it again usually gets away with it.
As I cannot pinpoint really when I get these "An unknown error occurred." I did not yet file a bug report.
Maybe we should search in the bug reports if somebody else has already reported this.
Rather often I experience that you sort-of can *persuade* a software, i.e. I just do the same exactly again several times, and it may work the second or third time. Did you try that when moving folders within LR, and did you get this unknown error every time?

Specify the image as the background image of the table or
table cell you are
working on. Use the Property inspector for this. Or use CSS
for it.

Help! Need help with transferring Ipod to new computer

After it took me forever just to figure out how to ask a question...eerr!
My old computer crashed and I need to move all my files, purchased, photos, and music that were imported. I know with the new Itunes you can transfer the purchased items, but will that erase everything else on my Ipod...ie: my photos and imported files?
I have downloaded a Ipod copier..but not really sure how to do this all. Any help from anyone would be so greatly appreciated.

That wouldn't be possible, the new Apple ID would have no idea about the old Apple ID. It's also a bad idea to create a new Apple ID. Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with another Apple ID with a new Apple ID.

Help with transferring apps on new computer.

I bought a new computer and have backed up my songs and videos..now I have all my applications that I have no idea how to transfer them to the new computer.

Be sure to be logged into your new computer's iTunes (the store via iTunes so it knows your account info) before plugging phone in.
I would also turn off automatic sync first.
Once connected, choose the Transfer purchased content (file menu or context menu off the iPhone menu item on left).
It will copy off anything on your phone you bought via iTunes (include apps).
For things you may have that are not longer on your phone, the app files are also in your iTunes folder of your old computer so just bring them to your new library as well.

I have an ipod classic and i use it to listen to music and audio books. Since itunes has a really cool ability to download things from csds onto itunes, i took advantage of it. I got audio books from the library and loaded it onto my ipod so i could listen to them on my commute each day. It was amazing...until my computer with itunes died. Im not very good at technical things so im hoping a smart individual could give me a helpful tip as to how to transfer all my data from my ipod to computer. i was researching this topic, but could not finding any help. I did ffind that i could doenload a program and then it would allow me to copy it, but i don't want to do it this way. Please help me out.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. However, with iOS 7, you must provide the password for the old ID to turn of Find My iPhone before you can delete the account.
If the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. How to convert a folder of images to a Collection?

How do I convert a folder of images that has been sorted, files rejected, files hidden, and so on, to a Collection? When I create a New Collection and drag the images across from the folder, all editing is lost and the images appear in alphabetical order. I'm using CS6.

A Collection is just a saved search. It does not contain any images.

Transferring images from camera or flash drive

Hi,
I am having problems with transferring images. When I plug in a flash drive or my camera to the USB port,nothing pops up on my desktop. I checked System Profiler, and it appears that the computer is recognizing the flash drive. So it must be a problem with the drive talking to the software, right?
I went into Image Capture and set the preference for iPhoto to open when a camera is attached, but no go.
This is a new problem - I have transferred images many times since getting the computer in March.

When you make a User choice - such as 'Open iPhoto When a Camera is connected' it's recorded in the preference (or plist) file. That's what those files are. Trashing them will return the app to the default state. You can then re-select your choics. Corrupted plist files are a common cause of all sorts of issues and one of the basic troubleshooting steps for any app.

Bridge CS5: Images added to collection get removed from collection

This is the first time I used non-smart collections. But, I'm sure that I'm quite sure that I'm not doing anything wrong.
I simply dragged thumbnails into the collection from various folders and the collection shows all 20 images. Then, I close out Bridge and open it later, only to find that there are only 4 images in that collection. There may have been 4 images to start with, but every image I've added does not get remembered. This has happened twice and it's very unnerving because the images I am adding are coming from folders that are all over the place and it's very hard to look up all the pictures again.
What's up with this?

I've just noticed this problem, by chance, whilst moving data to a new computer.
We found that files that were in collections were randomly missing from Bridge CS5's display, and sure enough, as described earlier, as soon as a file in the collection with a quote/spostrophe was read, that file and the rest of the collection were missing from Bridge CS5's display.
(This was using Bridge 4.0.3.9. Adobe Application Manager tells me my software is uptodate)
Because we had some backed up copies of Collections from both Bridge CS4 and Bridge CS5, I've been able to work a few things out, which I hope might help someone at Adobe get the problem fixed - and might help a few frustrated users too...
Background
The following entirely applies to Windows 7 (and presumably Windows Vista too):
In Bridge CS4, collections files are stored in:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS4\Collections
In Bridge CS5, collections files are stored in:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS5\Collections
Both CS4 and CS5 store their Collections in files called <collection name>.filelist
Both are XML files, where file paths are surrounded by apostrophes:
For example:
<file uri='bridge:fs:file:///D:/Shared%20Images/Flowers/RHS/DSC_0788.jpg'>
Both Bridge CS4 and CS5 convert any spaces in file paths to %20 - so /Shared%20Images/ above is actually /Shared Images/ on disk.
The cause of the bug
Crucially, however, in Bridge CS4, any apostrophes (i.e. single quotes) in file paths get converted to %27
But this conversion does not happen in Bridge CS5. And then when filelists get read back in, the data is truncated.
As a developer, I'm surprised at this sort of regression in behaviour, in such expensive software from such a large company.
Workarounds
None of these should be required to be done by a user, I feel, but I have found that they do work, and they could be scripted (e.g. in Python) if someone were sufficiently desparate:
Edit your .filelist files that were created by Bridge CS5, and convert all ' in file paths to %27 - oh yes, and remember to do that every time you add any new files to any existing or new Collections
Edit your .filelist files and change the single quotes at the start and end of each <file uri line to double quotes
I don't regard "remove quotes from your file names" as an acceptable workaround, however. We've got nearly 400GB of files, going back more than 10 years, and various of these are referred to from other locations, e.g. InDesign publications: if we were to rename locations for the benefit of Bridge, we'd break other stuff on the PC.

HELP! I opened a new catalogue (LR) & saved files into a collection set & then sent them over as a catalogue to Shoot Dot Edit to be edited. When I got the files back I opened them up a brand new catalogue (SDE) & managed to locate all the edited files in there as per the usual & did my usual tweaks. However I so stupidly changed the file names of the original photos in the first (LR) catalogue & now the new (SDE) catalogue with the edited photos cannot locate it's originals...I'm so desperate as I dont want to have to edit 350 images again!!! HELP!!

The file should be in your recently used catalog list (File, Open Recent).
If not then use your operating system to search for all files with the "lrcat" suffix.
Failing those we might need to know the LR version and your OS.

How do I restore all images in a collection to original imported aspect ratio?

Typically I select all images in a catalog, resize the first image to 640x480. I then right click on the first image (all images are still selected) click on Develop Settings, Sync and choose to sync only the aspect ratio. All images are then cropped to 640x480 like the first image, which I then export to a folder.
I then need to restore all images to the original aspect ratio for building a slideshow to export to my website. I've followed the same procedure i.e. selected all images, click on the first image, change aspect to original, right click on first image and sync aspect ratio for all images.
The problem is that the rest of the images do not return to their original aspect ratio but revert to 4x6 aspect ratio instead of the original size when imported. I've changed the lock to unlocked and tried both but still no result. Now I have to select each image individually, open the crop dialog and choose custom to get it back to the imported aspect ratio.
How do I batch restore all images in a collection to the aspect ratio when imported?

Rotating an image is adjusting its crop rotation and crop size. You originally said you wanted things back to import state which presumably was full resolution w/o any adjustments to ratio, size, or rotation. If you are wanting to do things in the middle of your other processing I'm less sure what to tell you.
Taking a crop that you have at 3:2 and setting it to 4:3 shrinks in the longer sides, and resetting the ratio to 3:2 shrinks down the shorter top and bottom--this is how it always works, because a crop box is not ever expanded by setting the ratio to something different, and changing the ratio back and forth like that makes the crop-box smaller and smaller.
Are you having an issue because you want to fiddle with the crop in the middle of other processing every time, or is this a special case because you've moved on in your processing after asking your question some time ago?
If you routinely need to do this, an easier way might be to export the images at the 3:2 crop, then reimport those JPGs, change the crop on those JPGs, only, then re-export them a second time, and be done with them. This sounds like you're making proofs?
If you are making proof-sized images at a different ratio? Why not just export the 3:2 images at a smallish size, perhaps with a watermark and not have to worry about making them 4:3 ratio?
Another alternative would be to print the images to JPGs instead of a printer, and set the paper size to a 4:3 ratio and turn on the Fill option--which will chop of the long sides automatically as it prints them.
