HELP QUICK, iMac blurry in verticle lines, lines in loading screen, loading screen yellow.

Hey all,
i have a problem with my mid 2010 iMac, i have weird lines that appear on the loading screen and the apple logo looks distorted. the loading screen takes a longer time to load and when it finally does there are vertical strips that appear on the screen and alternating strips are blurry and distorted. i tried to restart it and the loading screen turned yellow with blotches in it.
I fear it is the graphics card which is at fault. is there anyway to check this?

Anyone know what causes this?
Specifically, no. Generally, this seems to be a graphics board problem. There's some controversy regarding its cause, but an old, faulty graphics board and too much heat are popular choices. This happens not infrequently with computers, across platforms.
The way to avoid it? Certain runs of computers seem to be more prone to this problem, but consistently low temperatures seems to keep this problem at bay.

Both Memory Clean and Clean My Mac could have cause the damage which triggered the kp.
I would back up your Mac, erase and reinstall. Then Migrate your user data from the backup.
Uninstalling Tuxera is a troubleshooting process. You don't have to keep it uinstalled, just long enough to test to see if it is causing the problems.
However, if it doesn't happen regularly, it would be hard to determine if it was the cause.  And, as I mentioned, I don't think it would be the cause.

u can use box but for vertical line give width 0.
    Pre-Setting BOX Position Arguments
You can use the POSITION and SIZE commands to preset some arguments in the BOX command. POSITION presets the start point (upper left corner) of a box or line. SIZE specifies the width and height of a box.
You can use POSITION and SIZE to preset arguments, but you can also set the start point and size arguments of a box or line directly in the BOX command.
By default, if no positioning is specified, the upper left corner of a box or halftone or the top of a line is aligned with current SAPscript window. That is, the upper left corner of the box, halftone, or line starts at the upper left corner of the current window in the active form. By default, the height and width of a box are set to the height and width of the current window.
Use POSITION and SIZE to preset the arguments in a BOX command in the following situations:
The BOX command exceeds the 132-character (1 line in SAPscript) length limitation if you specify all arguments directly in the command. You may exceed this length limit if, for example, you use symbols in a command.
By pre-setting arguments with POSITION and SIZE, you can work around the limitation on the length of a command. You do not need to specify the preset arguments in the BOX command.
You want to use the enhanced capabilities of POSITION for adjusting the starting point of a box or line.
With BOX, you can specify an offset for the starting point only as a whole number (non-negative integer). This command would print a box starting 1 CM to the right and 1 CM down from the left upper corner of a window:
/: BOX XPOS '1' CM YPOS '1' CM
With POSITION; you can adjust the position of a line or box relative to a window much more precisely. In the POSITION command, you can specify positive and negative offsets and use non-integer numbers.
Example: The commands shown below position a box slightly to the left and slightly above a window. This leaves a margin between the edge of the box and the text in the window.
/: POSITION XORIGIN '-.2' CM YORIGIN '-.2' CM
/: SIZE WIDTH '.2' CM HEIGHT '.2' CM
    /: BOX FRAME 10 TW
(Note that the box must be enlarged to accommodate the shift. If it is not enlarged, then it will not cover all of the window.)
You can also use POSITION to set the starting point to the upper left corner of the active page format. Example: POSITION PAGE moves the starting point from the active window to the active page format.
You want to use the relative sizing capabilities of SIZE to adjust the size of a box, line, or halftone.
With BOX, you can make only absolute size specifications. BOX HEIGHT, for example, overrides the default height setting to the height of the current window.
With SIZE, you can adjust the size of a box or a line with respect to its previously-set dimensions. The following commands would, for example, draw a frame 1 CM in from the margins of the paper:
    /: POSITION PAGE
/: POSITION XORIGIN 1 CM YORIGIN 1 CM
    /: SIZE PAGE
/: SIZE HEIGHT '-2' CM WIDTH '-2' CM

  • Vertical lines, otherwise black screen....... help?

Hello all. I'd like to toss in a different spin on the old 'black screen of death' discussion. My Imac (G4, 1Ghz, 15") does something a little different. Upon startup, my screen comes up black, except for a row of vertical lines about 2" wide near the left side of the screen. They are all different colors, and change every time it boots, but almost always in the same place. Also, after it's on for a few seconds, the whole screen gradually blooms white from right to left, and as soon as the screen is all white, black creeps back in, from right to left. At that point, the screen stays black with the exception of the vertical lines. Here's what I've done so far:
-Checked external video - everything is A-ok, perfect screen on external monitor.
-Disassembled the base and checked cable connections - all cables appear to be snugly connected to the logic board.
-Disassembled the LCD display - All connections behind the LCD are intact.
What gives? Any ideas? Could it simply be a defective LCD given the external works fine? The screen reminds me of what G3 Ibooks do when the cabling is damaged, but I can't see visible damage anywhere. An inverter maybe?
I've been a PC technician for years, with a ton of Apple laptop experience, but this is my first Apple 'home' unit and I'd like to be able to use it again! For now I've confiscated the wife's Ibook. Can anyone help?
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Ibook G4 (wife's), iBook clamshell (junior's)

Well, that's so odd; but it sounds hardware all right.
I'd be worried about availability of parts or a new/reman logicboard if the
video component can't be replaced or found as a separate component.
If you have access to a tech service manual, as was once available in
a PDF format and would have been an original Apple proprietary docu-
ment, you could see the exploded view of the parts and also some good
step-by-step troubleshooting. Of course, since the repair ultimately is to
replace any suspected defective parts, you'd need a few extras on hand.

  • My iMac has extremely small gray lines on the screen?

My iMac has extremely small gray lines under the screen? There are 3 of them and they are right next to each other, have any of you guys experienced this? What did Apple do about it? BTW my computer is 4 months out of warranty, because i did not get the extended Apple Care, will they still fix my computer? Im really worried, but its not that noticeable, unless you already know its there.

They won't fix your computer because it's out of warranty, perhaps an AppleCare lesson learned here. Of course you can try which doesn't hurt. The longer  you wait though and the less chance they will help. Can you attach a picture so we can see what they look like?

My new iPhone 5 has black and white lines on the screen. It's not been damaged. I've tried turning it off but this does not solve the problem? Please help. I can't find my answer on the Internet.

By far the most common problem hardware-wise seems to be scuffs on the aluminium. Yours is the first report of a faulty screen I've seen.
If you use the same Apple ID on both devices it'll sync whatever you want it to - music/apps/photos/messages/etc.
I've just switched from a Galaxy S3 to iPhone 5 (having already owned an iPad for a while) so I'm in a similar position!

  • My 27" iMac displays vertical green lines when turned on and then will not boot up

Can anyone tell me why my 27" iMac displays vertical green lines when it is turned on and then will not boot up?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The display or graphic card are damaged. The only thing you can do is to take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller to get your computer repaired.
If you use an external display with your Mac, connect it to your computer and see if these lines appear on the external display. If so, it's a graphic card problem

  • Dropped my iPhone 4s and now there are lines across the screen?! Help!

    Hey everyone!
So, I have recently dropped my iPhone 4S and now there are all these blue vertical lines across the screen, which occasionally change colour also.
I am still able to receive messages and calls, and siri still works, it's simply that I can't see a single thing I am doing- which is very difficult!
I was wondering if this is an issue that needs to be fixed at an Apple store- and if so, how much it would cost? Or if I would be able to fix it myself somehow.
N.B: I've tried to reset it, it doesn't work. I have also tried to restore the iPhone, but iTunes won't let me do this as I have to have the 'find my iPhone' app turned off, which I cannot do because I can't see anything I'm doing!
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions,
    Kirstoodles.

    Kirstoodles wrote:

Yes. It's broken. A replacement will cost you $199.
Or if I would be able to fix it myself somehow.
The iPhone is not user servicable. Apple does not sell parts for the iPhone. any parts you could get are either stolen, counterfeit, or salvaged.  Atempting to fix it yourself will render it unsupportable and forfeit your right to service from Apple, including an out of warranty replacement.

  • What would cause a slim horizontal line across the screen of my iMac?

There is a slim line across the Center if the screen. It is horizontal. It does not appear every time I boot up, but it is causing concern.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It would mean that your display or GPU are starting to fail, most likely the GPU, as the line is not permanent. Does the line move during the time your iMac is turned on or change if you start up in safe mode (holding the Shift key while your Mac is starting)?
A good test you can do is to make a screenshot of the screen when your iMac is showing the line. To make the screenshot, press Command, Shift and 3 keys, and the screenshot will appear in the desktop. Double-click it and see if the line appears. If it appears, it's the GPU. If not, it's the display
