Help! Ran EtreCheck on Macbook Pro. Very slow and only 2 years old.

I want to start out by saying I take very good care of my computer, its my baby .  But for some reason over the last 6 months it has gotten extremely slow. I have no idea what is causing this. Something that sparks my attention is that I have 8 gigs of RAM and after I start up my computer I'm left with only about 30 megabytes of free RAM right off the bat.
I do want to point out that I am running the second developer preview of Yosemite as I am testing our software on it. I have had no further problems with the developer OSX that I had with Mavericks. The problems came about way before this.
Any help would be appreciated!
Here are screenshots of the EtreCheck report:

You mistreated your baby by installing the useless Sophos garbage.
Uninstall it.

Apparently you did not read the nondisclosure agreement that you agreed to, and have now violated.

  • MacBook Pro very slow and junk mail after using wifi in Italy

After using different wifis in airports and hotels in Italy I am getting lots of junk mail in my inbox.  Also my internet is extremely slow.  I got a new router hoping that was the problem, and ATT checked our line to see if that was the problem.  I 'm afraid I picked up some sort of virus.  Is there an easy solution?

  • Macbook Pro running slow and freezing...please help?

Hi there everyone. I have a Macbook Pro that's a few years old and it started to experience some slowdown and freezing recently, which was even worse after installing Yosemite. It's mostly running slow on Safari but it seems that programs are freezing and taking way longer to open and close too. I'm not all that familiar with diagnosing these sorts of issues on Macs and was hopeful that someone could take a look at this for me? This is the EtreCheck report, and any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys.

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

  • MacBook Pro very slow to bring up homepage, won't open programs; likely related to attempt to upgrade Java software on the Parallels side, not successful because of low C drive capacity, recommended C drive compression not successful/completed.

MacBook Pro very slow to bring up homepage, programs won't open; likely related to failure to upgrade Java on Parallels, told that C disc low capacity, disc compression recommended was unsuccesful/failed. Rebooting, battery removal hasn't helped. Can't open Systems Preferences. Suggestions?

Linc, the resident dump guru, will probably be along in awhile and provide deeper insights, but here goes for now. I'm seeing an awful lot of warnings and messages from Chrome. Any chance you could lay off that browser for awhile and use Safari in the meanwhile? No red messages anywhere in the listing. Have you tried rebooting into Mountain Lion Recovery Mode to do a Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions? (Cause in spite of what your config tag says, the dump indicates you are running a ML kernel)

  • MacBook Pro is Slow and Crashing

Hi my macbook pro is just over a year old and in the last two days has become very slow and keeps freezing with the colourful wheel thing. I can no longer watch films or listen to itunes without it stopping. Today it started kicking me out of safari and started sending me crash reports. Does anyone know what may be wrong? could it be some sort of virus?
Thank you any help is much appreciated.

Mine is brand new. Less than a month old. Same problems. In fact, I often have to hold down the start button and reboot. So it's not like a normal OS X crash where you force quit one program. It's like the crashes from OS 8 and 9 days. I would love someone to post more thoughts on this. I am clueless.

  • My macbook pro is slow and the colorwheel turns a lot.  Is there an antivirus software out there recommended by the apple community?

  • I have a macbook pro, a little over 2 years old, have been advised I need a new hard drive....after 2 years!!!!

My macbook pro is just over 2 years old....for the last couple of months it has been running very slowly, the beachball is in permanent residence!
I have been advised I need a new hard drive....after only 2 years I'm not at all impressed. Is this normal?

Over a very large sample of drives, these drives are very reliable, despite being moved around inside laptops.
You do not have a very large sample, you have ONE drive. Anything that happens, from having it run for twenty years to having it die on the first day, is within the normal range.
The rapid resolution to your problem IS to replace the drive. At your leisure, you may find that after re-writing every block with Zeroes (a process that can take half a day and has no guarantee of success) enough spare blocks can be found to return the drive to service. Or maybe not. If you are willing to invest the time and energy to do this, you may get a nice backup drive, or you may get a doorstop. No one can predict ahead of time.

  • My macbook pro is just over 3 years old now and off and on during this time the screen will just go all black.  Lately this blackout is lasting longer and I was wondering what is causing this.  I am afraid that this will not come back on in the future.

My MacBook pro is just over 3 years old now and the screen has totally blacked out for a few seconds at a time.  It will come back on in a few seconds with the exception this past month it has stayed black for a longer period of time like one minute.  It scares me to think that one of these times it won't come back on.  I have noticed it happens more often when I am using just the battery power.  Does anyone have any idea what causes this?  just to mention my battery was not low when this happens.

    jmckl,
if your MacBook Pro is a 15-inch Mid 2010 model (“MacBookPro6,2”), then it might be exhibiting the defect that is documented on this Apple Support page. If your black screen is due to this defect, then that page states that Apple will service this problem on this specific model of MacBook Pro gratis, for three years from the date of purchase. However, some commenters here have noted that sometimes the servicing is done gratis without having proof of the date of purchase. If you have an Apple Store near you, you might consider bringing your MacBook Pro there to have them check for the presence of this defect.
It is only the 15-inch Mid 2010 model that has this problem; no other model suffers from it.

For optimum performance, install Snow Leopard 10.6.8, to date the most efficient OSX from Apple.

  • MacBook Pro - Very slow, Full RAM, Fan is constantly on - With EtreCheck, etc.

Hello everyone! Thank you all in advance for any type of help or advice, I appreciate it a lot.
    I am using:
    MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012)
Running OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.2
Processor 2,3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB
Macintosh HD has 294,08 GB free (out of 499,25 GB)
I am a student, using my MacBook constantly during the day. Applications that I use daily - Safari, Word, Outlook and Finder are always on; a lot of the time I am also using Photoshop CS6, Skype.
Ever since the update to OS X Yosemite my MacBook did slow down noticeably. I left this issue unattended as I was using uni computer at the time. Recently I returned to the actual studies and design work on my MacBook. I couldn't cope with how slow it was, ended up in forums looking for the solution. I tried a couple of things already (was restarting/shutting down computer in-between these tasks):
    1. Disabled FileVault (it was on for moths, I had no idea of what it is), completed the decryption process (it took around 10 hours).
    2. After that I ran EtreCheck, that found a couple of actual and potential issues, I more or less sort it out, will attach the new report in the end of the post.
    3. Tried to disable Spotlight to affect mds, not sure it worked.
    4. Moved to Trash apps I wasn't using, properly uninstalled only a couple of them. Emptied trash.
    5. Erased Safari history that emptied about 500MB of RAM, but then it went back to almost 3.98GB full out of 4GB.
At the moment I only have Safari on and kernel_task takes 570MB of memory, used RAM is 3,88GB out of 4GB.
Fan is constantly on, MacBook is very slow. If I understand correctly RAM is the main issue, unfortunately being a student I am not able to buy and install more memory. I also understand that Photoshop takes a lot of RAM memory, what can I do about it? Photoshop is a crucial app for me.
Is there a way to free some of the RAM memory and make my Macbook faster? Would a clean Yosemite install help? (Can Yosemite at all perform properly on a MacBook with only 4GB memory? What will help it run faster?)

Thanks a lot in advance! Looking forward for the possible solutions!
    Anna

Let Spotlight finish indexing your HDD.  Stopping it is pointless.
Regarding the fans, it is always running when you turn on the MBP.  It is a question of how fast. If there are light loads on the CPU, the fans should be near silent.  If otherwise, try a SMC reset.
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
If that does not slow the speed at very light loads then there are other reasons that need to be explored.
If you cannot instal;l additional RAM (your MBP will accept up to 16GB) then you will have to accept slower performance.  Yosemite is a RAM glutton.  The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are Owc and Crucial.
Time Machine or any other backup is only necessary if the data you have on your MBP is important.  Ask yourself this question:  What will be the degree of inconvenience should the internal HDD fail?  All hard drives eventually fail.
    Ciao.

  • Audio problem and macbook pro very slow

    Hello,
I have a macbook pro for less than a year.
The latter has begin to be very slow. In addition, I have no sound which are emitted from my Mac, setting apart the opening gong. By the jack, there is no red light that are emitted. I tried to go in the program "audio setup midi" but it does not even want to open. So I tried to open the configuration panel go to select a new audio output device, but to my surprise, after an interminable waiting times, I got a list of blank audio device .. .
I noticed that it started when I put my Mac to version 10.7.4 ... So this is very recent ...
When downloading the update, I was editing a script with automator and my Mac was rammed by an HDMI cable has a television, if it ever can help.
I was wondering how to solve my problem.
    thank you
    Bonjour,
Je me demandais comment résoudre mes problème.
    Merci

The startup drive is failing, or there is some other internal hardware fault.
Back up all data on the drive immediately if you don't already have a current backup. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Macbook Pro Running Slow and Very Hot!!

I took my Macbook to the Apple store and they analysed it and said that there was no problem with the actual Macbook and they updated the software.  It is still running very slow and really hot.  They cost alot of money and am really not happy with this happening after just two years of having it.

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple tech support.  Let them deal w/it.

    Hey VladimirGP,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing performance issues with your MacBook Pro. The following resource may provide a solution:
OS X Mavericks: If your Mac runs slowly

  • Macbook works very slow and consumes a lot of battery power when closed

    Hi@all
I hope someone of you can help me. My Mac crashed yesterday. I got a warning saying "there was a problem, your Mac will reboot" (I didn't get the exact words because it vanished quite fast and the MacBook rebooted itself). Since then my Mac is working very slow and freezes every few minutes. I looked at the CPU usage but this is always under 25% so there shouldn't be a programm that causes this problem.
    In addition:
When I close it, it seems to go to sleep mode normally but is still consuming quite high amounts of battery power and get's warm. When I work with it the temperature stays normal.
I have a MacBook Pro (mid 2012) with 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 running with Mavericks.
It would be great if someone has an idea what could cause this kind of problems.
Thanks a lot in advance for your suggestions :-)

    sternblume,
for the high energy consumption in sleep mode, you could try resetting its System Management Controller.
For the slow working and freezing, you can try this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode.
