Help! Random blue screen appears and won't go away also getting glitches.

Hello,
So recently a blue screen has been randomly appearing taking up the whole screen, it won't go away until I hold down the button that turns laptop off. My screen has also been glitching and just now a glitch took up the whole screen then my background dissappeared to be left with this blue screen. Please help, I can't afford a new laptop!

That is odd and I'm not savvy enough to tell you what it means. But I'd venture a guess that you're in some kind of a debug mode. Again, a wild guess, but perhaps if you created a new admin account and log in with that, maybe the more (if that's the issue) will go away?
I'd start up in safe boot mode first and see if that helps. Maybe it's something running in your startup items?
Have you Googled the phrase? You might find something on a more technical Mac site that way? I just Googled <<event sysontoc>> and came up with a few leads you might want to check out.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of report — it will be very long and not helpful.

  • HT1710 What does it mean if the blue screen appears and stays on with no further activity?

My disk failed. Apple store replaced it with a disk with OS X. I tried to load from valid time machine backup. eventually I got a blue screen.
What does this mean and what should I do?
Here is more of this story:
When I picked up my computer after the disk was replaced, I was told I could do a time machine recovery. After about 6 hours the recovery said it had less than a minute to go and was transferring "your" network settings. at 9 hours it said the same thing.
I rebooted DVD to try to reload MAC OS X but it crashed with "INSTALL FAILED  MAC OS X could not be installed on your computer Click restart and try again"
I did but it would not boot.
I reloaded the disk utility and and it showed no problems but the next OS X install failed (hung).
I then wrote zeros to all the disk (could not find a reformat command). This went tith out error.
I restarted the OSX install and it appeared to work.
I started the install from time machine again and it hung in the same place. (less than a minute remaining. The completion bar had a sliver of white at the end but was mostly blue)

It just means it's hungup just before completing, we can get more info with Verbose boot...
    CMD+v keys on bootup...

  • The blue screen appears and everything quits, what's the problem ?

    Hello !
I would like to have some help or info. I have a problem that started a few weeks ago. Sometimes, my OS X quits, the screen turns to blue (with the color pinwheel) and then it goes back to the desktop. This problem doesn't only occur with applications. It happened when I threw something in the trash.
I'm using Mac OS 10.2.8 on an iMac DV 400 mhz. I only have 192 mb of RAM. That could be part of the problem.
I've looked in other discussions to find an answer, but I did not really find one. Can someone help me please ?
    Thank you !!
iMac DV   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Well, at least you've ruled out some more possibilities.
First, two more pieces of advice: it shouldn't be causing this problem, but under normal circumstances, there is NO reason to power off your computer. An easy way to let it sleep during the day is via System Preferences, Energy Saver. You may also want to use the Desktop & Screen Saver option in System Preferences, if you haven't already.
Second, why are you powering-off your modem at night? As long as you have your firewall on you should be protected. Remember, this is a Mac, NOT a vulnerable Windows machine! (Your firewall is on automatically when you get your Mac. Check the Firewall pane of the Sharing option in System Preferences to be sure.)
    OK, on to more possibilities:
Do you have File Vault on? I've never used it, and don't know much about it, but it does sometimes cause problems. If you can, try turning it off temporarily and see if anything changes (System Preferences, Security).
In an earlier post, you said you'd done "most" of the system maintenance things. Your difficulty sounds a bit like it might be a permissions problem. If you haven't repaired permissions, do so.
Are you still having the problem when emptying the trash? If so, do you have more than one user? If not, set one up temporarily. See if the other user(s) have the same problem. If not, the next item is probably true.
Another possibility is a corrupted Finder preferences file. Find the com.apple.finder.plist in your library/preferences folder. Move it to the desktop temporarily, then close all finder windows and re-open one. Now try emptying the trash again.
Are you using the "regular" empty the trash option, or "secure"? Try the other and see if anything changes. Do you use the "warning" before emptying the trash? If not, turn it on temporarily. Now empty the trash and note just where the problem starts ... before or after the warning?

  • When I right click on any page the menu won't appear properly and some times the whole menu won't even appear. And on the bottom of firefox there is an extra bar which just appeared and won't go away.

The menu has trouble appearing properly, and sometimes doesn't appear at all.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • HT3910 a blue screen appears at the start up

When I start my macbookpro a blue screen appears and stays. Nothing further happens ; can anyone help please?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Sometimes Blue screen appears on Satellite M70

    Hi there
I must express my overwhelming frustration with my satellite M70 laptop as I have it for more than a year now(warranty expired) and almost from the get go it had a problem in wich a blue screen appeared and the pc reboots...from the error report it is a problem with the graphics card and/or display driver.
I did take it to my local retailer for repair but the problem still remains(gone there 3 TIMES! each time waiting for more than a month for repair!and they did send it to toshiba service...)... as the problem doesnt happen *all the time* it seems they just didnt notice or something :(.
I did update all the drivers but it had no effect on the problem...
So now what?? Do I send it to repair and they finally replace the graphics card...but I pay??!!
This is all very upsetting for me as you might imagine...
And know its worse...it seems to be happening more and more...and many times the computer wont reboot after the bluescreen...it just stays black.
Now almost every time i turn it on it wont boot...the fan will just work for a few seconds and thats it.
Im almost certain the graphics card is defective...can I replace it at home? Argh this just feels wrong, the computer had this problem almost from the start and I sent it for repair...they just did not fix it...I shouldnt have to pay to fix it as I sent it for repair 3 times while it still had the warranty...
Please reply I'm desesperate and have no idea what to do

Hi Andrej and thanks for the reply
But the thing is I have already done that countless times...and the problem is still there...same old same old :(
I have tried seemingly everything...thats why I say its gotta be hardware :S
Having this in mind Id like to know if there is anything I can do(concerning hardware) without resorting to Toshiba service
Keep in mind that Im pretty sure it is the graphics card that is faulty(I dont know if its onboard or not)
Also sometimes when I turn it on the graphics on my pc go weird like an abstract painting or something lol...thats another reason to think its the graphics card.
    So anyone can help me?
Thanks in advance for your replies :D

co'z i cant get a peace of mind with my unit!

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:

  • Blue Screen appears on Toshiba Satellite C660-11L (PSCONE)

    Dear all,
I have this problem ... I believe that it is the display driver, but I prefer to ask you, because you are the TOSHIBA specialists after all. So, I use WinXP Pro x86, SP3, fully updated, without viruses (NOD 32 v. 5 + Malwarebytes).
When I switch to thumbnails and there are some pictures, when I try switching on my camera, when I even sometimes try to play a movie on my computer and the "blue screen" appears and the laptop automatically restarts by itself.
So far I was not able to find a driver for the model 11L, but only for C660. Could that be the problem? Please, support me with the solution that I am searching for.
    Best regards,

Use iTunes to do a reset to factory default condition. Always be sure to do your backups before fiddling with your iPad. You might do both the iCloud and the iTunes backup, just to be sure!

keithfrommariettaOct 12, 2014 3:25 PM Re: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade
Re: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgradein response to pacoKAS
SOLVED:  IOS 8 Issues on iPad 2:
I just returned home from a visit to the Genius Bar. Like you and many others, when I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8, it became practically unusable. It was VERY slow, lagged whenever trying to to do anything. Lots of screen freezes and apps spontaneously crashing. I was convinced that the processor on the iPad 2 just couldn't handle the new IOS and I went in to see about restoring to IOS 7.
Thankfully, I was hooked up with a very sharp guy at the bar. The problem is not with the OS, it is with it being an *upgraded* OS. He used the analogy of when you had an older Windows computer and how over time (and over upgrades), they just tended to get slower and slower because of all of the garbage that was carried forward in the upgrades. At those times (and if you've ever had a Windows computer, you get this), the only thing that would speed it up would be to wipe the machine and do a fresh install of the current OS and then reload your apps, and the viola, everything would be fast again. Well, it turns out that IOS can suffer the same problems.
THE FIX:  FIRST, be sure you have a current iCloud backup of your device.  Connect your iPad to a computer that has a clean fresh copy of IOS 8 on iTunes (this is best done with a computer other than the one that you sync your device to because you DO NOT want to restore it from a back up just yet). Ideally, if you do this at an Apple store you'll be assured of the right version there and someone to answer any questions you might have along the way. You then hold the power and home button down to hard-reset the device and continue to hold them down until it reboots into recovery mode. You then follow the instructions on the computer to reinstall the OS on the device (which wipes everything from it and then reinstalls a clean copy of it). Once this is done (which only takes about 15 minutes), your device will reboot and ask you to set it up. Answer the questions about language, location, etc. and continue until it asks you to log into your iTunes account. Once you do that, it will ask if you want to either 1) Set it up as a new device, 2) Restore from iCloud, or 3) Restore from iTunes. Choose (2), restore from iCloud. This will ensure that it brings down "clean" copies of all of your apps and preferences rather than the potentially corrupted ones that might reside in your iTunes backup. That's it! It will take a few hours depending on how much data and apps you have, but I am happy to report that my iPad 2 is now running IOS 8 and it's running as fast as it ever did when it was brand new!
To sum it up, this process 1) Wipes your device and the garbage causing your problems, 2) Loads a clean and bug-free version of IOS 8 to your device, and 3) restores your apps and data so that it looks just like it did before the wipe, with the exception that it works now!  :-)
Note also that by following this process you don't have to go through the painful and laborious process of reloading all of your apps, data and/or settings. iCloud takes care of all of that for you.

When I was editing a picture that I reposted on instagram, I hit the edit button and then a white screen appears and randomly shuts down. I have also noticed that my iPod has been crashing about every single 30 minutes! Please help!

The iPod crashing when editing a photo is a known bug in iOS 5.1.1.
    For the other problem.
    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order

  • Blue screen appears on startup and at shutdown

A few months ago, I bought a macbook pro and it was doing fine. But recently, every time it starts, a blue screen appears for a split second then it goes to log- in. Then, every time I shutdown, it will also show up for a split second then shutdown. It doesn't affect the computer but I'm just wondering how to stop it.

I couldn't rember what time it started so, I shut down my computer and the blue screen appereed at 8:39:28. But went I turned it on, the blue screen did not show. So, I turnned it of and on again and no blue screen. I did it several times and now the blue screen isn't showing. But I will post the test that showed in the concel during 8:39, when it powered of blue, to the time I powed it on, when the blue screen did not show. If you need more, I will try to give it to you. I'll post again if it shows up again. Also I  should edit out ethernet address too right?
