Help! RAW images appearing broken in PS CC 2014

Help! This has been happening recently, when ever I finish tweaking my photos in the RAW editor and then open it in Photoshop CC 2014, my photos will appear like the sample below. I would need to quit photoshop and reopen just so it could appear normally again. But the problem will eventually repeat when opening another image. When I minimize or maximize the view, this mess will end up appearing differently. My Camera RAW plugin is up to date on Photoshop. Not sure if this is a card error, which I have formatted many times already. The only thing I haven't done is check if my Canon firmware is updated.

That's a video driver bug.
If you are on Windows, update your video card drivers from the GPU maker's website.
If you are on MacOS 10.10, disable GPU drawing in Photoshop's preferences, and wait for Apple to fix the driver bugs in an OS update.

When I use Preview,Photo Mechanic and Pages, all JPEG or RAW images appear corrupted.
I thought my hard drive was failing and replaced it and migrated everything over but the problem still exists.
It felt as if maybe a virus was at work but I ran Sophos and found nothing.
I store images on my Drobo Raid system but when I work from my Macbook Pro I have no issues, just on the tower.
Any idea what is going on?

First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.

  • Help, ghost image appearing in composition background

    Hello
I have an issue of a ghost image appearing in the composition background. I can't figure out how it got there or how to remove it. It's really annoyong as the image also appears in rendered videos.
This only seems to appear when my composition settings is set at 1024 x 576 px, which I must use for projects. If I increase the composition size by 1 pixel, the image disappears, change it back and it reappears.
Please note, that there is no files in my project and the image still appears.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Update your graphics driver and flush the disk cache. This is an artifact that relates to that - eitehr the buffer reappears when you set it back to the old resolution or an invalid cache is pulled in. It only disappears when you change the resolution because naturally there is no previously stored data...

  • RAW Image appears sharper in Photoshop than Aperture

Using the 20in screen Raw files that I have imported into Aperture 2.1.1 appear significantly less sharp than when the same file is imported into Photoshop CS3
I also have not found a way of significantly sharpening the Raw based image in Aperture -
The files are from an Olympus E3 with the current camera firmware installed.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

adobe camera raw applies significantly more sharpening (and noise reduction) to images by default. I find the edge sharpen in aperture to be far superior, and i also feel i can squeeze just a little more detail out of my raw files in aperture, especially at higher iso's.
to sharpen, just select the image and press control-S and adjust to your liking. you can also tweak the sharpening applied by default to the images in the raw settings of each picture.

  • RAW images appearing as JPEG in Lightroom

    Hi there,
I have recently installed the latest version of Lightroom on my Apple iMac, when I import RAW files (NEF) from my hard drive (they are in iphoto) into LR they show up in LR as jpegs rather then NEF files. Is there something I am not doing correctly? I did not encounter this problem when I used to use LR with  RAW files with Windows Vista on my laptop, they appeared in Lightroom as NEF files not jpegs.
    Thanks for your help

This is the Camera Raw Forum...the Lightroom Forum is down the hall. You would be better off asking there.

  • Hi i have been lucky enough to take delivery of the Nikon D810 but am unable to upload the raw images into LR5 or Photoshop CC 2014 is this just a matter of waiting for a new version of ACR ??  Thanks

Hi i have been lucky enough to take delivery of the Nikon D810 but am unable to upload NEF files into LR5 or Photoshop CC 2014 is this just a matter of waiting for the next version of ACR ???

What version of Camera Raw do you have?  Do Help - About Plug-in... - Camera Raw to see.
If it's not 8.5, which is the latest current release as of this writing, you might want to look this over:  Camera Raw updates cannot be applied
Just looking over the list here - Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras - I don't see the D810 listed at all.  Maybe that page isn't updated or maybe the camera is newer than even the newest Camera Raw release, in which case you'll have to wait for Camera Raw 8.6.  Note that Adobe often releases beta versions early so the wait may not be that long...

  • Cannot Open Camera Raw Images in PS CR3

Even though I've been a professional photographer for over 25 years, I finally decided it was time to go digital. Little did I know how overwhelming and frustrating the learning process would be, especially for an old timer like me. Well, the 10 day return period on the digital equipment and software purchase is up, so I have no choice but to move forward in the learning process. :)
Actually, I'm excited about all the photographic possibilities that digital has to offer over film.
The first batch of photos were taken with a new Canon 40-D in Raw + JPEG. When I open my picture folder (containing those photos) in Bridge, a CR2 icon appears next to each thumbnail image that was loaded from the camera flash card. The Bridge program is part of Photoshop CS3 that I purchased, and the 40-D has the latest firmware. (If relevant, the computer is a PC using Vista Home Edition.)
Problem: When I double click on a JPEG image, I am able to load that image into Photoshop. When I double click on the CR2 icon, however, I get a message that says, "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." What am I overlooking?
Also, shouldn't a thumbnail Raw image appear along with its corresponding JPEG thumbnail when the content of the picture folder is opened in Bridge? As it stands now, I get only a CR2 icon next to the JPEG thumbnails.
I would be grateful for any help you could offer.
    Many thanks.
    Bruce

    Bruce,
When I made the transition to digital some 8 years ago, I had tremendous help from a number of well documented websites, among which:
    http://www.luminous-landscape.com
I think a lot of stuff there to get you seriously going. Another one is:
    http://www.computer-darkroom.com
I sold all my film based stuff, except a Nikon F3 and a handful of lenses and a Paterson developing tank.
The Nikon suspiciously smells like foam mirror damping strips chemically decaying.
I sold my enlarger over the internet. The word "enlarger" caused me to be on SpamCops blacklist for a while.
I'm in this since the seventies, and I think you'll be as amazed as I was at the possibilities and control you have. And no more bags with $300 worth of film that's consumed in one shoot.
Jump in both feet! you won't be sorry. And these forums are the best help you can get.
    Good luck,
    Rob

  • Problems Importing RAW Images - Photo distorted

I am having problems importing RAW files to Aperture. I have a Canon 450D and I import Both RAW & JPEG. On the import tab it shows all photos correctly, naming the RAW .CR2. However, once imported and processed the RAW images appear as either black only or in the thumbnails, lines of colour.. I have tried just importing RAW only but same result. I have updated the latest software from Apple so am at a loss. Any assistance would help. Cheers

    Mel,
I haven't use the DPP Canon software in a long, long time. (And I never used it on a Mac).
These next few statement and questions are concerning troubleshooting. (I.e., I have no preconception of the answer and I'm not trying to be daft. )
Can you view a photo from the DPP software, if that photo was not imported by the DPP software?  If so what do your Aperture RAW files look like in DPP?
When you import files by DPP, are they the same format that you are expecting to get by directly importing into Aperture from the camera?  If not... Hmm.  Not sure what to make of that...
Concerning the SD card, yes it's possible that some are corrupt.  Best practice is to extract your photos from the card, and then (when you have backed up the photos), use the camera to format the card.  If you are satisfied with your backup situation, I would try formatting a card, taking some RAW photos, and then importing into Aperture to see what happens.

  • Help with viewing raw images in iPhoto 6

    Hi:
When viewing raw images from my camera (a Canon 20D) in a large or full screen format, after about 5 seconds I see at least a dozen tiny white dots on the image. These occur 100% of the time.
If I "retouch" the image and save it, they go away.
Also, they never appear if I shoot and import JPEGS from the same camera?
Is this a bug in iPhoto 6 and, if not, can someone explain or help me with this?
    Thank you!

I have the same camera so i checked out the raw images--sorry no spots show up.

  • Camera Raw problem; images appearing soft and without definition on import

Can anyone help? I am having problems with ACR version 4.6 ( I cannot upgrade ACR without upgrading to CS5). When I open a RAW image in ACR, the image appears soft, and with poor definition. As a result, they have failed quality control for upload to the Alamy picture library, despite having been shot with a Nikon D3. I am simply opening them with ACR defualts, then opening to photoshop.
The files open fine in Lightroom and Nikon Capture NX, however I prefer to use ACR for my workflow. Any suggestions? I don't what to shekll out for CS% if the problem is still there.
    Thanks, Robin

Have you tried resetting defaults? It sounds like either your Camera Raw default settings have been changed, or sharpening has been set to Previews only.
    1. Open an image in Camera Raw, select the Details tab, and check that setting are like defaults: Amount 25, Radius 1.0, Details 25, Masking 0. You can always reset defaults from the little menu icon on the right of the panel title.
    2. Check Camera Raw preferences, looking for the item: 'Apply Sharpening to:' and make sure it says 'All images'.
You might want to check other preferences too, especially the 'make defaults specific' settings, which, when used, create multiple default settings depending on camera and ISO.

  • RAW files appear as negative images. Please explain.

I imported RAW images from a card reader and selected DNG. In the Library, the images appear as blotches of color or presents or whatever. I've tried to find a solution for a week, but have not succeeded. It's really quite frustrating because I'm sure it's something simple.

Blotches of color could indicate that the file is corrupted. This is almost always a hardware problem ... camera card, card reader or USB cable, hard disk. Try using other hardware to transfer your photo to a different hard disk. see if that helps.

  • Only thumbnail image appears in Viewer; RAW image inaccessible

I import Nikon D200 RAW images into Aperture project. The thumbnails appear in Browser as normal. I try to view them in the Viewer or Full Page and I only see the thumbnail sized images; and I cannot make adjustments, print or otherwise process the RAW image. The full 15mb NEF image is visible in Finder in the referenced file on the external hard drive and I can access it in Photoshop CS3, but Aperture does not access the RAW file. I have rebuilt the library and created a new library, but the problem persists. Help!!!

Do the thumbnails have a yellow border? If so, type a "P". You're in Quick Preview Mode.

I need some help resizing my images on PS6. I am using a mac and have been trying to resize with same resolution and constaining proportions but for some reaseon the smaller resized image appears pizelated. Heres an image of before and after. The first image I use is a JPG 72dpi 1500px x1500px and I want to downsize it to 600x600px same res, but it keeps pixelating, this has never happened before. Any suggestions, thoughts?
    thanks!

I wouldn't say pixelated; more like blurry.
Like ConnectedCreative said, what steps are you using? Are you using "bicubic sharper" when resizing down?

First Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repair disk permissions and the disk.  Reboot normally.

Re: Digital Camera Raw Compatibility 6.02 - Nikon D800
    in response to ceylin.e
    [DocumentBodyStart:3bf5afd7-94e9-4fb4-acfa-7aa13198efec]
Make a backup of your system and try to downgrade the RAW support to version 6.01
To downgrade the RAW Support to the last version from before the last update try this:
To reinstall the 'RAW Compatibility Update' it is necessary to uninstall the currently installed raw support. Otherwise the installer will rightfully say, that you already have the latest version installed.
If your tests are showing that the problem happens also in a different user account, try this:
The RAW support files are installed in the System Library in the folder "/System/Library/CoreServices" Folder:
To open this folder, use the Finder's "Go" menu. Click the smiling Finder icon in the Dock to bring the Finder forward.
Then type the keyboard shortcut ⇧⌘G  (for "Finder > Go > Go to folder")  and copy and paste "/System/Library/CoreServices" into the text field. Click the "Go" button.
In the Finder window that will open, delete both the files "RawCamera.bundle" and "RawCameraSupport.bundle". You will have to enter your Administrator password. (don't empty the Trash, so you can put the files back, if need be)
Download the current RAW support update from Apple's Support Site:
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6.01 http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1777?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
In the Downloads folder you will find the disk image with the installer. Double click it to open and run and the installer.
    Then restart your Mac.
However, instead of Digital RAW Compatibility 6.0.1 download and apply Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 5.01
which is the updater specifically for D610.
or #2 - Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down) and reinstall the system.
