Help Recording from FCP to Canon XHA1 Mini DV

Hi there. I am totally new to this forum, but I am desperate.
I shot on a XHA1 camera, captured and edited on FCP and for some reason, cannot, absolutely cannot figure out how to record it (for backup) on to the camera I shot it with. (miniHD tape) It was shot hi def, widescreen format. 1080i 60.
I have tried so many different settings, both with the camera, and FCP that I am totally confused.
I never had this problem with my GL1 that I used for years....
Please please please, any help?
Alanna

Which version of Final Cut Pro were/are you using to capture the footage from the XH A1 to your computer?

  • Unable to output from FCP to Canon XL1.

I have an eMac with Final Cut Pro 4.5 HD. I also have a Canon XL1 3 CCD camcorder.
I have no problem capturing footage from my camcorder to my eMac on FCP. I can also connect my Canon to my VCR and record off my camcorder to my TV, as well as play the tape on my camcorder to watch it on TV.
However, I cannot output from FCP to my camcorder. The 4 to 6 FireWire is attached to both the camera and the eMac and I checked the Log and Capture feature and FCP does recognize a camera or deck is attached. I've been trying to output it using manual record in which I press record on my camcorder and play the playhead on FCP. As I record, there is no picture on my viewfinder, nor any audio being recorded and when I play it back, I just get this blank blue screen, but the timecode is recorded.
    Am I missing something here?

    ensure the following are set
View>Video Playback>Firewire Apple 720x480 (NTSC or PAL - whatever is appropriate)
    View>Audio Playback>Audio follows video
    View>External Video>All Frames
If this isn't what you are set to do, you won't be sending video out to your recorder.

  • Need Help Recording From a PC to Final Cut Pro

Ok First forgive me for my inexperience I'm a Audio Engineer trying to help out my company, because our Video Director left. I work for a Video Game Development company and we always have to record in game video for commercials and this is really becoming a pain to me. The game plays on the PC and I have to record it in small HD segments using a program called fraps because none of the 2 Gig or larger AVI files I record can be opened on the Macs, so I have to go through this crazy conversion process to actually get them to the company that makes our TV commercials. I was Wondering if any of you knew if there was a Box that would let me play the game on the PC and then connect that output to the Mac and Record it in HD directly in Final Cut Pro, and then send that Final Cut Pro Project to the Commercial company. Like using the DVI output of the PC's Video card to a box then output to firewire on the Mac or something like this? Again sorry for my lack of experience and the long post just need some help
    Thanks

Short answer yes. Longer one is you'll have to look around to find a solution that works for you. There are converters/scalers that will go DVI to video (HDMI) but then you need a capture card for the FCP system. One possible way is two Intensity cards from Blackmagic Design. Put one in each computer and connect them.

  • Recording from FCP to DVCPro HD

We are having some issues recording an HD timeline to DVCPro HD. The material was ingested from DVCPro HD using the Apple Pro Res 422 HQ setting. When we try to go back to DVCPro HD tape all transitions such as dissolves, FTBs and effects are pixelated.
Any help with what we may be doing wrong is greatly appreciated.

I know this doesn't solve the issue...but why did you capture as ProRes if you intended to output to DVCPRO HD tape? You have now just added two compression steps. DVCPRO HD>ProREs>DVCPRO HD. You really should have captured and edited as DVCPRO HD if you were going to master out to DVCPRO HD. Much higher quality.
I am not sure as to the answer to this, as I have not captured DVCPRO HD as ProRes, but I gather that might be the issue. Shouldn't be...but who knows.

  • Help recording from turntables/mixer

Alright, I'm sure this has been posted before or answered somewhere on the internet, but I haven't come up with any answers yet in my search. All I want to do is hook my mixer for my turn tables up to my Macbook so that I can record some of my LPs and make some mixes. I have an RCA to headphone cable hooked up to my line input, changed the input type at the appropriate places to line in, and that's about it. If anyone could at least point me in the direction of a tutorial on how to do this with Garageband. I've never used this program before, so I would appreciate complete directions. Thanks, peace.

I will go on a step by step with you to see if you got some input:
(note that the term maybe a little different since I use my OS in french)
in Preference system / sound under input select line in.
At this moment if you make your sound source play you should see the meter on that page move.
If it don't the computer don't get any signal so you must check before it.
in GB pref. select the audio input to be the same as preference system or to line in.
Select the track you want to record on click the info button ( i ).
there is a popup next to the text "input source". (if your setting is line in it should be ok, but
    don't heart to check)
Make sure that the track you want to record on is selected and that the red dot below the control of that track is red.
    hit record.

  • FCP 7 will not see my Canon XHA1S

I have just bought a new *Canon XHA1S* HD Camcorder and made a few clips, all HD 1080i 50 (PAL). I have tried connect the camera via the 400 (6 pin) Firewire socket on the camera to the 800 on the MAC Pro. No matter what I try the MAC has no idea it exists. I have tried removing all other firewire devices .. making sure the camera is powered and on VCR with the FW cable in before starting FCP7 no joy. Also have tried iMovie 9 too, it also sees no camera. The cable and port on the MAC are fine to verify this I connected the same cable to a small external FW drive and it worked first time. I have adjusted various FCP settings and on the XHA1S too .. I now have very little hair left all pulled out .. all help is gratefully received !! HELP PLEASE !!

    Hi Jim.
I just use the HDV 1080i50 Firewire Basic Easy Setup, which is preferable for Canon equipment. Everything works fine.
With regard to camera settings, I just put the cam in VTR mode and make sure it's set up for HDV. Downconversion should of course be OFF if you want to capture HDV. (By the way I've found it's necessary to disconnect the firewire cable to enable/disable HD downconversion, not that that's relevant to your immediate problem.)
The camera setting AV->DV should be OFF. (On is for when you're recording straight to the camera using the RCA analogue inputs.
Sometimes the XHA1's VTR is a little finicky in and refuses to switch properly between HDV and DV. Make sure the correct format is showing in blue in the camera's mode selector dial (when you switch it to VTR mode).
That's all I can think of - but of course the more unpalatable possibility is that the camera's firewire port is not working. They're pretty delicate; you have to be very careful inserting the cables, but I'm sure you've been careful with it.
Do you know anyone else with a know working system (or a working XH-A1 that you could borrow?)
If you're in Dublin anytime soon I'd be happy to let you try your camera on my own system. (My email is in my profile, though not in the usual place).
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to capture video from canon xha1s to final cut pro 6.0. so confused

    hi,
i purchased a canon xha1s and am simply trying to capture the video onto my macbook pro laptop. i keep getting the error saying my settings are incorrect and am confused as what to put and where. i went to the video/audio settings and put what i believed to be correct (HDV) since my camcorder records in HDV. still that error window pops up when i try to log and capture footage.
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi .. I had a very similar problem .. if the above fails it may be worth a look at this too..

  • FCE capture from my Canon XHA1 captures as one long clip

I've never had this problem capture using FCE before. I'm capturing from a Canon XHA1 and it's capturing the video as one long clip rather than the many short clips I shot. And unlike when you capture DV, you can't use the "DV start/stop Detect option" when the footage is HD..so that's not a solution.
I'm using a new Macbook pro and was wondering if that has anything to do with it given that i"m using the newest OSX as well.
Any ideas? It appeared to do the same thing when I captured into iMovie.
Or or is there a setting on the camera that I've failed to change?

    Dear Phojo1,
I also have a XHA1 and am experiencing the same problem. I was wondering if you shot your footage in HD, and what are your settings on your camera for recording and outputting. The first footage I captured I used hd with 1440x 1080 apple intermediate with 29.97 rate. I had no problem. It captured each clip separately. Now I can only capture with dv/ntsc settings. I'm am trying to see where the problem is. By the way this started happening when I upgraded to 4.01. It also does the same in imovie. Thanks for any information.

  • Audio lag from Canon XHA1 speaker during log and capture

    Hey All,
I'm working with a Canon XHA1. I'm logging and capturing video shot in HDV (1920 by 1080) @ 60i, . I can see the video on screen but the audio playing back from the camera is about half a second behind what I'm seeing on screen.
My video monitor on the camera sincs up fine with the audio during this process AND my final capture is fine. It's just hard to work with this audio delay during the log and capture.
Is this a settings issue? I don't think I can monitor sound through the computer during log and capture, right?
    Here are my settings:
    Sequence preset:
    HDV - 1080i60
    Capture preset: HDV
    Device control preset:
    HDV Firewire Basic
    Video Playback: None
    Audio Playback: Default
    Any suggestions?
AND can anybody tell me what Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 means?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Oh, and I neglected to mention I'm using a MacBook Pro running 10.4.10 and I'm running FCP 5.1.4
    Thanks in advance.

  • Trying to download video into  Final cut pro from my canon XHA1 HD camera

I have a brand new I-mac 24 inch 4gs of memory and a terabite of hard drive, with Final Cut Pro 6.0.1 Studio 2. I have a brand new Canon XHA1 HD camera. when I plug in my 4pin firewire the computer it won't except the camera or the firewire, but I-movie will? the warning sign says it can't find the firewire? does any body know what settings I need to set, so my computer will except and download my video footage in final cut pro?

I've got the Canon XH-A1, but I'm still using FCP 5.1.4, for the moment. I've had no problem capturing from the camera. Are you using Log and Capture? The simplest way to try capturing, once you're in Log and Capture is to hit play in the controller section (or space bar), and then use the capture now button, once the video has started playing. There is an entire chapter in the book on how to use the log and capture facility, so I'm not going to get too detailed here. If you can't get it to work, please be specific about how far you get. Can you play the video on the camera?, Does it show the transport controls?, etc.

  • I upgraded to mountain lion and now iMovie dose not see my Canon XHA1 . Can anyone help?

I upgraded to mountain lion and now iMovie dose not see my Canon XHA1 . Can anyone help?

I upgraded from the app store. It is actually quite awhile ago so I do not remember how. I think I used a thumbdrive to create some type of file. No I do not have any backups. My iLife CD is nowhere to be found because this is a very old macbook pro that I've had for a couple years.
Thanks for taking the time to help

  • Cant do anything with print to tape or recording from timeline! Need Help!

I have been trying to get my mac book pro to print to tape using a firewire and a jvc dv deck. when i go through the process and check to see if it actually did it, all i get is black screen with no sound. Then when i try to record straight from the timeline (like i use to do with Avid) i get the same result. Can someone help me out FCP is suppose to be able to do this but i guess not. All my software is up to date and i dont know why this is happening!

Is the JVC DV VTR set to the right input for Firewire? In FCP, look under the View and see how the output is set.

  • Looking to record from tv to Mac mini

Im looking to record from my tv to my Mac Mini, in a TiVo type way. How would i go about doing this and im sure there is a device i would have to use via usb or firewire. Thanks.

    Hello,
There isn't really a one-stop solution for the Mac Mini yet. So, you can't just run to your Apple dealer and purchase everything in a single kit and go home and plug it in.
But, there are many ways to get the end-result you want. Here are some articles that should give you a really good start in picking out what you need:
