Help Recovering my HP Pavillion dv6

Hi there!
I am currently using a HP Pavillion dv6. My operating system is Windows 7 Home Edition, to which I upgraded to after originally having Vista. I do not have recovery disks and was looking for a simple step-by-step guide to restoring my computer back to it's factory settings. I have already backed-up my important files. I am encountering a problem though, my computer fails to pick up when I press F11 during the booting screen. Please let me know what steps I should take to fix my problem!
Thank you!

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and product number (p/n) of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer, inside the battery compartment or on the startup BIOS screen. Please see How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? for more assistance locating this information. When you installed Windows 7, the "F11" link to the HP Recovery partition was broken. Please mark the HP Recovery partition "Active" by selecting "Mark Partition as Active" using the Windows Disk Management Console. See HP - Partitioning and Naming Hard Drives (Windows 7) for information about using the Windows Disk Management Console. Also see Microsoft - What are system partitions and boot partitions? which states "the term, active partition, describes which system partition (and thus which operating system) your computer uses to start."
If the above instructions didn't work and you didn't create your HP Recovery Media when you first setup your computer, please contact official HP support in your region / country, via the HP Worldwide Support Portal, to see if HP Recovery Media is available for your computer.

  • HP Pavillion dv6-6117dx "Recovery Has Failed" HELP ASAP

So on my HP Pavillion dv6-6117dx with Windows 7 Home Premium  64-Bit, I am trying to use my recovery disks to recover to Factory State. I do everything it says too do. But after the Supplementary Disk ejects and goes to the screen HP Installing Applications or something its like a green screen with 2 bars and when that is done it just pops up with an error saying "Recovery Failed" it gives me three options "Save Log, Details, Or Retry." I've done all the steps. Retryed about 7 times but every time the same thing pops up. I need to know how to fix this by 3/16/13.

    Hello everyone:
My HP Pavillion DV6 seems to have some sort of battery problem as it says Error -  hp internal battery 601 on boot up! The laptop is just over year old and out of HP warranty!
I'd like to know if HP can provide/sell this part to me.. Cost? and how can I replace it?
Also, can I get this battery locally or is it a custom battery manufactured by HP only?
Thanks in advance for all the help and suggestions.

It's just referring to the battery.  Replace it and the error message will go away.  You can buy the battery here

  • Pavillion DV6 2020sa bios corrupt, wont take recovery. please help.

hi, thanks to anyone that has any input on this problem its much appriciated,
I am looking at my brothers laptop, pavillion DV6 2020sa he had a virus lock the screen, he held the power button to switch it off, upon reboot he gets the blank screen and flashing leds (2 flashes) upon lookin up it says bios corrupt, i have downloaded the bios from HP tis 3635.bin and have put in on a USB drive, the sticker under the battery also says 3635, so im confident i have the right one.
I then hold the win + B button and then power, it starts, and shortly after the USB stick light up and flashes, then stops, then flashes again, at that point i get 6 beeps, then silence, then i get 5 slow beeps, i have read this is meant to happen, but then its meant to resart, and this is the bit that dont happen, it dont do anything, when i restart it, it just does the same flashing lights.
am i doing something wrong, or something im missing.
    Thanks again for any help.
    Jamie.

You will need an eeprom programmer to reprogram a new BIOS chip with a fresh BIOS file. It takes a special hot air tool to successsfully remove and replace a notebook BIOS chip. This is not just normal soldering. This is what real electronics technicians and workers at an electronics R&D lab and workers on the assembly line at manufacturer do. Unless you just happen to be an electronics enthusiast or engineer, and I am guessing you are not since you asked these questions, this may be out of your league. If you feel adventurous and have  your brother's permission to use his notebook as a guinea pig...go for it! It is not as easy as the guy in the video made it look. He is a trained technician and  does it for a living.

  • Usb ports not working- Hp Pavillion dv6

    1. Product Name and Number

     2. Operating System installed (if applicable)
         •Windows 7 64 bit/Ubuntu 12.04.1
     3. Error message (if any)
         • Usb device not recognized
     4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred
         • Nothing really. Stopped working while working on an assignment for school
    Description:
My usb ports are not working. There is power running to them(light on usb stick light up) however when I plug anything in it says usb device not recognized.
    I have tried:
Updating bios(No option in bios to turn usb on/off)
Reinstalling all drivers for usb(removed and restarted so they would automatically reinstall.)
Unplugging laptop and removing battery for a long period of time(all night)
The problem persists in Ubuntu and Windows 7. I am coming to the conclusion that the ports are toast and I will need to replace the mother board. If thats the case can anyone tell me the approximate cost of replacing the motherboard?(If too much ill just be buying a new computer)
    Thanks.

  • Pavillion dv6-6002ev is beeping on start up continuously

    Hello,
I have a problem with my laptop which is the Pavillion dv6-6002ev i5, operating system: Windows 7, error message: continues beep code at the start up, issues occurred: water was spilled through the keyboard, product LL053EA.
Actually I am not very proud of it but by mistake I spilled water on it through the keyboard. I immediately turned it off and I used the blow drier to dry it as much as I could..I removed even the keyboard and the memory cover from the back in order to be sure that all the water has gone.
After that I turned it on and in the start up there is a beep code ( I don’t have LED code at all) that is continues. If I press enter or another button then after awhile this sound stops for a while then starts again and then I have to choose from the Boot manager Windows7 and then starts.
Firstly the touchbad didn’t work but everything else worked fine (sounds, video, battery, processor). After 20 hours of the incident the touchbad started also to work but the light of the touchbad still does not work.
So the main problem is the loud sound at the beginning that doesn’t stop unless I use the boot manager to start the Windows.
I searched on the internet from the beginning and I saw that this beep code can only indicate a hardware problem so until now I have tried everything available on the internet to make this sound to stop (taken from here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01732674&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc...)But nothing worked and everything seemed fine, memory tests passed and everything.
Also I used the DST tests that are available from this model (Hard drive, Memory, Battery) but all of them passed...
So really after doing everything and without being an expert on PCs I would like to ask is there anything more that I can do in order this sound to stop and before I have to take it to expert to fix it? And is it this sound really worrying?, can I use the laptop until I will get it fixed or its better to have it off?
Thank you in advance for your responses

    Hey ktassi !
Gosh I hate when that happens! I've been there myself and I know it's very frustrating.
The first thing I would recommend doing is turning the computer on and getting all of the personal files backed up. That would be my priority. If you already have everything saved externally, then there's no need to worry with that step. Now, there is back up software out there that you can use. However, I've found  that copying and pasting each folder individually over to an external hard drive/flashdrive or cloud service is a more reliable way of backing up your files.
Once you have everything backed up, you can troubleshoot. It would be helpful to know what the beep pattern is that you're hearing at power on. You did a great job finding that document. It has a key on it that will tell you what component is affected depending on the beep patter you hear. If all of the hardware components seem to be working OK, you could try reloading Windows. Although, I couldn't guarantee this would help since the beep code indicates a hardware problem, but it well worth a try.
Here are the steps to perform a System Recovery after you have backed up all of your files. From the blue links at the top, choose "Recovery from the startup screen (during system boot)". When the recovery is done, use your computer normally. Start it up and shut it down several times to see if it will detect any problems (which will cause it to emit a beep pattern again). If it does still beep after the recovery, there may be a minimal hardware issue. That malfunctioning hardware may need to be repaired/replaced before the notebook will stop beeping.
You could also try muting the PC Beep.
Right Click on the Speaker symbol in the system tray > Click Playback Devices > Right Click on 'Speakers'/'Speakers and Headphones' > Click Properties > Click the Levels Tab > Mute PC Beep.
This method should be used with caution though because if there ever were a serious hardware failure that would cause the computer to beep, you would be unaware of it, possibly until it was too late.
Let me know what the beep pattern is. Please let me know if you have any questions or if these suggestions help (this could help others with the same issues). I'll keep an eye out for your reply!

  • How to get Beats by Dre software on my Pavillion DV6-6170SD?

    Hello everyone,
I  recently installed Windows 8 (64 bit) on my HP Pavillion DV6-6170SD and most of the drivers were working right away. I used to have Beats by Dre audio software before I updated my Windows and now I can't find it on the website below.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5141...
Can someone help me find the Beats by Dre software for my laptop?
It looked a bit like this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ali

    Hi Ali,
    You're welcome
It may be worth trying to use the Windows 7 IDT Audio installer specifically for your notebook ( I've found this seems to work Ok on several machines ) - download it from the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55094.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the IDT Audio entry and select Uninstall - let the process complete and then restart the notebook.
Let Windows fully load, open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.
    Any improvement?
    Regards,

  • HP Pavillion dv6-6c 11nr entertainment pc Bass and Treble settings not saving.

I have a pavillion dv6-6c11 nr laptop and every time i turn it on I have to turn it on i have fix the bass and treble settings. They are automatically set to -12[bass] and 4[treble]. It sounds terrible so I set both to 0. After setting it to 0 I am satisfied with the sound. But it resets itself every time i turn on my laptop. It is frustrating me to no end. I've tried updated my drivers but they all say they are up to date. If it helps im running windows 7 64bit with beats audio. Im not sure what other specs i should add. Also I have no idea how to use Beats.

    Hi JeffyBoy1792,
You'll find the answers to both questions in the owners manual of your notebook, beginning on page 35.
Please let me know if this helps.

  • Where can i get hp pavillion dv6 1370ev motherboard

where can i get hp pavillion dv6 1370ev motherboard?

This manual shows the motherboards in the dv6 series.
Match the part number to the configuration of the notebook you plan on installing it in.
If you have already removed it, look for the part number and match it to what you see in the manual I linked to. Just do an online search for HP pavilion dv6 -1370ev replacement motherboard with Google or Bing to find a vendor with the best price. If you purchase it through HP Partsurfer you will pay much more than market price.
    Best regards,

  • Pavillion dv6 HDD change

    Hi,
My 640GB WD Scorpio Blue drive died in my Pavillion dv6 so I went out an purchased a 320GB WD Scorpio Blue - identical except half the size.
Using the recovery DVDs I did a "Minimalist Factory Restore".  The restore process formats the partition then copies the nessesary files without error.  When it is done, I am told to remove the DVD from the drive and click Continue to restart...
The laptop then restarts and hangs at the HP logo.  In order to restart I need to hold down the power button and then boot the machine again.
I then get a message "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"
I've tried the restore process four times and it's the same problem every time.  I've done a HDD test using the System Diagnostics and the test passed.  Help!

EDIT: I can access the drive through the command prompt on the recovery disks and I see various directories (Windows, Users etc) but the drive still won't boot.  Also it thinks it's an 80GB drive not 320GB

  • Pavillion dv6-3216us win7 clone hard drive worked only with HDClone 4.1

Pavillion dv6-3216us win7 64bit clone hard drive worked only with HDClone 4.1 tried many others that seemed to work but not boot.
cloned to WD 750 GB took about 2.5 hours

The originals were over 3 yrs old low end consumer models and 'due' for retirement to less frequent backup duties.
The Black or Blue Caviar 640GB costs slightly more but also 10-15% faster.
I wouldn't worry about temps, but I would monitor them, and if necessary boost the fans 200-300 rpm to help out.
Make sure everything is SL versions now (DW 4.2).
Normally I zero a drive and reformat more than others, and definitely with new OS.
