Help, Recurring Event WON'T Edit or Delete

I've read the threads about the slow iCal, or SBOD, or not responding. I've tried deleting the plists, backing up then restoring the calenders. I've made all my recurring events end at a date instead of never.
I think I have the problem narrowed down to one event. If I have the calender that this event is in deselected, iCal runs like a champ, no SBOD, no slow downs, just like the good old days. If I have that calender selected, even if it's the only one, SBOD with every input, takes to long to change month or anything. If I try to edit, or delete this event SBOD for as long as you can wait. If it happens to go away, nothing has happened. "The end on date" still has no were to input the date or if you tried to delete it it's still there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have installed all updates so I am up to date (kinda redundant)
Thanks again.

Ferd, You are a life saver. In  response to you suggestions.
1) Folder did not exist on my HD. Must have been deleted at some past update.
2) tried and tried again to no avail. Even deleted the iCal folder in HD/Users/Name/Library/Caches and it still didn't help.
3)And the angels rejoiced. Had to go back to April 2001 and it took about 3 Min. of the SBOD before it happened but Waa-Lah. The evil event is dead. No spinning ball, no freeze ups, and even with all my calendars selected (10 of them) I can switch between months, events, days, views, whatever just like I used to.
For anyone reading this that is having a slowdown issue with iCal, It was 1 repeated event out of many that caused the problem. I knew which one it was because if I selected it in Month View I got the SBOD for about 20 sec. every time. If I selected another event, that event highlighted immediately.
Good Luck All and
Thanks Again.

  • ICal keeps sending alarms for past events and won't let me delete items from calendar, I hit delete but the event just keeps multiplying on my calendar?

iCal just started repeatedly sending me alarms a couple of days ago. I thought deleting the event from my calendar would help but it won't let me delete them, they just keep multiplying in my calendar. Help please

    Hello again,
Well I seem to have overcome the problem, but not easily, and not by identifying the cause. I don't like that I don't know what caused the trouble. I make no guarantees, but this is what I did (on an iMac with Snow Leopard 10.6.8). Be sure to create backup copies of your files first:
[Note: before you do any of this, you may want to try running Disk Utility program (found in Applications/Utilities/) and run the "Repair Permissions" option. See if that solves anything, but it didn't for me]
    a) I exported my iCal as an archive: Menu item, "File/Export/iCal Archive...". This won't likely do you any good, though, as something was wrong with it and I could not re-import it. But try anyhow.
    b) After backing them up, I deleted the folders and contents inside the Calendars folder: "Users/<your user name>/Library/Calendars/<subdirectories>". To create a backup, right-click on the Calendar folder and choose "compress Calendars" from the pop-up menu. Then drag the folder contents into the trash.
    c) After creating backup copies, delete (drag into the trash) these preferences files found in "Users/<your username>/Library/Preferences" (the slashes delimit the folder names):
      Users/<your username>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist
      Users/<your username>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
      Users/<your username>/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.iCal.helper.<some convoluted hex number>.plist
    d) Restart your computer;
    e) Launch iCal and reimport the individual calendar files you exported earlier.
    Hopefully all is well.
Let me emphasize again that you will not likely succeed in reimporting the calendar archive. In the first place it likely contains corrupted data that caused your trouble in the first place. So you will need to import the individual calendars that have been exported. Be very certain to export these individually first.
And if you want to make doubly certain, then copy and paste some of your important and key events into a TextEdit file and save that file in case you don't succeed.
Perhaps you subscribed to some online calendar? If I recall correctly I had imported a calendar when the World Cup Soccer series was happening; I speculate that might have contributed to the issue. I wish I could have found exactly what caused the trouble. It may have been some older, less compatible format that was retained through a series of Mac OS updates.
    Good luck.

  • Recurring event deleted by sender, recipient still has events showing up?

I sent an invitation for a recurring event a long time ago. I have deleted event, but the recipient still has the recurring event showing up. I deleted the email account from which the event was sent, and that did not work either. The event even shows up for future dates. How can the recipient get rid of the recurring event?

One more thing, it prints just fine in Month View. Bizarre.

  • How to edit or delete emailed calendar entries in iOS?

When I accept an event into calendar on my iPhone (iOS 7.0.4) that appears as an attachment to an e-mail message, it shows up in the calendar correctly. However, unlike events that I enter directly, I cannot edit or delete the entry later; manually entered events show "edit" in the upper left corner of the screen which allow direct modification or deletion. It does not show on ones from mail attachments.
In the OSX version of calendar, however, those events can be editted or deleted just like any other calendar event.
Is this a bug or a feature? (In the case of "feature", how can I disable it?)
Also, if some sends an update to the event (time change or deletion), the changes do not take effect in the iPhone calendar.
Thanks for any assistance here. If I dont find a good soultion soon, I'm ditching the calendar on the iPhone and going back to paper.

    Hi,
The blue, dotted line indicates an implicit page break where the content has flowed to a new page. Use the same approach for adding/editing explicit page breaks in the Page view as you would in the Web view, by adding/moving/deleting a "New Page" element.
Note that we maintain separate page breaks for each view. A "New Page" item added in the Web view is not included in the layout of the Page view, and vice versa.
    Regards,
    Brian

Do you use MobileMe and an iPhone? If yes, do this in the following order:
    Mac:
    (1) back up the applications giving you problems
    iPhone
    (1) Open settings, then open "mail, contacts, calendars"
    (2) Open .Mac account
    (3) Turn OFF the applications that are causing problems
    (4) When you turn off on of the applicatios, a red sign "stop syncing" will appear. Press it. A msg will appear "turning off xxx"
    (5) Get out of settings
    (6) Don't do anything for about 20 mins. Don't touch your iPhone or your Mac. (syncing needs time to settle down)
    After 20 minutes...
    Mac:
    (1) Open each application that is giving you problems. Fix errors. Back up.
    (2) Do this for each application
    iPhone
    (1) Open settings, then open "mail, contacts, calendars"
    (2) Open .Mac account
    (3) Slide switch to ON for each app you turned off; there won't be a msg
    (4) Get out of settings
    (5) Via MobileMe, syncing will start again.
Wait about 20 minutes, again. You should see all in order after that. At least, that was my experience.

  • Google Cal won't let me delete recurring events in iCal on a certain Mac?

My company uses a Google public calendar for everyone in the company to schedule events and see what's going on. My new Macbook Pro can edit that calendar freely as does my Macbook. However if I'm on my iMac, I get this bizarre error when deleting recurring events. What in the world does this mean?
"HTTP/1.1 409 Can only store an event with a newer DHSTAMP"
I looked up the error in Google's Cal Help, which was useless unless you are a physicist or programmer working for them. Made not one bit of sense to me.
What can I do? It's making me crazy!!!!

  • ICal hanging when trying to edit/delete recurring event

I have a calendar entry in iCal that recurs every week through the end of the year. I know this particular entry is causing issues in iCal so I have tried deleting it and/or editing it, and every time I do, it hangs iCal. Any thoughts/ideas? I do sync to a Palm using MissingSync but this calendar entry does not show up on my Palm so I can't delete it there. Any ideas? I would just like to delete the entry.

Wow, just found the answer - YzGy posted this link <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7449164&#7449164> and I did as instructed and I'm back up and running. For some reason, this recurring event was on my calendar 12,300 times.

  • Cellphone calendar won't delete recurring events

I have an LG Cosmos 2, and lately it won't let me delete calendar events that are recurring events. When I try to, a message appears that says "can't insert this exception" when I choose "just this event". It has only started doing this recently, and I'm doing nothing different. What's causing this?

Thank you for the information, tthompson515!
Are you able to delete normal events that are not recurring? If this issue persists, we may need to backup the phone and complete a factory reset. Here is how: http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/devices/knowledge_base.html/31087/
Contacts can be backed up with Backup Assistant.

  • Deleting a recurring event in iCal

Situation; iphone 5 recurring event wont delete.  looking at same calendar on a synced PC (work) the event is not there at all.
If you are having trouble deleting a recurring event in iCal try this:
on your iphone change the event "alert" or "show as" setting on one of the events in the future.  The event that wasn't showing on the PC outlook calendar magically shows up now.  delete it from the PC by opening it and choosing the X delete for all occurances (if its asks).
Now open the event in iCal and you should see the Accept Maybe Decline option at the bottom - choose decline.  you may have to do this on several dates, but that should delete the event.
    Hope this helps.

    pedfogog,
... or whoever may find this post in need of assistance as I was.
I just had this same problem and successfully deleted ALL event (past and future)instances by :
    1. Click on any instance of the event in the calendar
    2. Select "Delete" from the iCal toolbar "Edit" menu.
    3. The iCal propmt asked me to choose to delete all or just the one instance.
    4. Naturally, select to "Delete all occurrences"
    I am running OS 10.6.8   iCal 4.0.4

  • Deleted recurring events still show up on iPad/iPhone/Macbook Calendars

Trying to view several calendars for the purpose of project management.  Here is the problem step by step:
    1) If I am UserA and have  my calendar set up as Exchange or CalDav with FULL rights, I can add, delete or edit all events as needed.  I can add recurring events and DELETE one or more occurrences of the recurring event and have THAT show up correctly on my iPad.
    2) If UserB sets up his calendar and gives me read access, I can SUBSCRIBE to his calendar using normal "other / caldav" subscription settings and view it properly.  No problem.
    3) If UserB sets up a recurring event (lunch meeting at noon every Monday), that shows up properly on my iPad.  No problem.
    4) If UserB is going to be out of town or decides to cancel his lunch meeting for some other reason, he can on his own machine (Outlook, Mac Calendar, iPad with Exchange full account) delete that event.  No problem for HIM.
    5) On MY iPad, the subscribe calendar never shows anything different.  The same recurring events continue to display even if UserB has delete one OCCURRENCE of the event.  This IS a problem.  My view of his calendar is now incorrect.  Yeah, yeah, one meeting one day is not a problem.  But multiply that by several users, multiple deletions of recurring events, and suddenly the whole shooting match is out of whack.
    6) I can refresh the calendar to my heart's content, but nothing changes.
    7) Here's the kicker:  I can DELETE the subscribed calendar and RESUBSCRIBE to it.  This forces a completely fresh download to my iPad.  Doesn't change a thing.  The same recurring events still override ANY deletions that the user made to individual instances of the events.
In looking at the raw ICS file which I can download via a web browser, an entry might look like this:

    END:VEVENT
You can easily see that the EXDATE shows a deletion for 2013-02-25 as well as other dates.  Doesn't matter.  They STILL show up on the iPad and in the Mac OSX Calendar.
I consider this a bug.  I hope an Apple employee sees and responds to this.  I would welcome any thoughts, workarounds or suggestions that could help with this.
Yes, I can tell users to only put INDIVIDUAL events on their calendar.  But, let's face it.  It's easier to put a recurring event and delete one or two instead of putting 50 recurring events for the whole year.
And, of course, Outlook displays things properly as do similar CalDav clients.

Exact same issue here. Individual events deleted from a recurring appointment continue to show up in Calendar (OS X 10.8.2).  Same events do not show up on calendar if viewed via outlook from my desk PC or view outlook web app from anywhere.
    Clearly a bug.

  • Can anyone help me sync calendars from my iPhone to my Mac and help me figure out how to edit or delete lists in Reminders?

Can anyone help me sync calendars from my iPhone to my Mac and help me figure out how to edit or delete lists in Reminders?  I thought upgrading to Mountain Lion would work, but I'm having the same problem as before under Snow Leopard.  So, here's my situation.
I'm running 10.8.2 on a Macbook Pro.  I have a 3GS iPhone running 6.0.1.  I can make entries on my Mac Calendar and they will show up on my iPhone, but if I make an entry on my iPhone, it never makes it to my Mac.  Also, I notice that when I log in to my iCloud account on my Mac, it has a "me.com" email address as my apple i.d., but it is not my primary account i.d. and I can't figure out how to delete it.  Also, my Reminders application won't allow me to delete lists I created.  Contacts, on the other hand, work instantaneously regardless of where the change is initiated.

On you iPhone check Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Calendar (in the calendars section).  Here be sure you have selected the Calendar listed under your iCloud account ID as your default.  If you haven't, make this change, then enter a new event on your phone and see if it syncs properly now.
You should be able to delete you reminders list by, from the Lists view, tapping Edit at the top, then tapping next to the list you want to delete and tapping Delete.

  • ICal crashes when editing one instance of recurring event

Maybe it is just my imagination, but this started just as MobileMe was released.
If I edit or delete one instance of a recurring event, iCal crashes about 90% of the time. I'm not sure why it does work in a very few cases. Usually it will show as "Not responding" in my activity monitor and start using all memory. When I force quit, the log files include the following:
    Command: iCal
    Path: /Applications/iCal.app/Contents/MacOS/iCal
    Version: 3.0.4 (1263)
    Build Version: 3
    Project Name: iCal
    Source Version: 12630000
    Parent: launchd [458]
Any tips? My iCal is nearly unusable as most of my events are recurring, and editing events is a necessary tool. Let me know if I should post more of the error log.

    Hi,
    the following might help:

  • Cannot delete recurring events in calendar

All of a sudden, with the (TERRIBLE) changes of iOS 7, recurring events will not delete or be changed. Each time I try to delete or even change an event, it walks through the correct process tellingme that it is a recurring event and asking if I want to delete just this one or all future events. I say all future. All's good. It goes away. then 5 seconds later it shows up again!  Same thin when I try to edit or move an event. I have tried on all my devices  to delete the same event -- it always returns!
I am running iMac intel with OS X 10.9
    iPhone & iPad iOS 7
and I am at a loss as how to do it differently.
I found on earlier sites to put " sudo chmod -a# 0 ~/Library/Preferences/ into terminal -- but Termal came back with "
    chmod: No ACL present '
Any thoughts?  Anyone else having this problem?

Is this a synced calendar or just on the phone?
For a synced calendar, you will need to go to the Settings App > Mail,Contacts,Calendar and remove it from there.
For a calendar on the device, open the calendar app > Calendars > Seelct the calendar(s) in question (tap on the blue arrow to the right) > scroll down and tap Delete Calendar.

  • How do I delete a recurring event that appears on my iPhone's calendar, but not on my computers or iCloud?

I can click on the event in the iPhone's calendar, but the "Edit" option  and "Delete" option are unavailable. The event does not appear on any other device or in iCloud. Am I destined to see this recurring event forever and ever? Is it an unkillable zombie that will shamble through the corridors of my electronic life in perpetuity?

Okay. Awesome! I feel like such a dodo that was so freaking simple!
Now I have another simple person question that feels stupid too but oh well apparently my brain doesn't like to work at 5 a.m. when I am in bad pain but...
Okay, so I've deleted them from my phone manually, they are already ALL on my mac, when I plug my phone back into my mac to sync music and any New photos, will the old photos that I deleted that are on the mac, go back on the phone? Der. I feel like I already know the answer, but I'm asking anyways...
Please, thank you, and sorry in advance!

  • How do I delete a recurring event that was sent from an outside source?

I have a number of recurring events that were added to the calendar from an outside calendar. A calendar that I do not have access to anymore. I wish to delete the entire series. Currently when I open the event I can not edit nor delete it. If I choose cut I am forced to cut each individual occurance of the event. Is there some way to delete the series?

you can try full re-sync of the calendar:
First you need to find out which account the offending calendar belongs to (you can find it in the event details)
    then go to settings/main,contacts,etc...
    Tap on the proper account
Then disable the calendar linked with this account (confirm deleting it from the iPhone)
Finaly re-enable the calendar and let it sync.
