HELP! Reformatted drive with Video source files

I accidentally reformatted my external drive that contained the source files for all of my iMovie '09 projects/library. I am currently using Data Rescue II to attempt recover. Fortunately (I hope), all of the project files are on my internal drive.
In case the data recovery doesn't work, does anyone know if I will be able to reimport the video and have the project files recognize the new sources?
Please don't tell me I should have backed up. In fact this was the very thing I was trying to do. I simply made the biggest bonehead mistake in reformatting the wrong drive. I am so bummed now. All of my family videos.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

I lately made a test, by dragging Events in Finder to a diff. location.. = project kaputt . dragged files back to original location = project fine.
when you look inside a iM-Project file with the plist-Editor (part of the DevTools), you'll notice as item 62 a 'link', e.g. "~/Movies/iMovie Events.localized/HF100 Import/clip-2008-05-23 23;06;51 1.mov" .. which reads in Human English:
my import is in the iM-Events folder, named 'HF100 Import', followed by the naming scheme, iM uses automatically..
=> in your case, if you re-import, you HAVE to use the exactly same Event names as before! .. in theory, your re-imports of video could work..
How many Projects/Events are we talking about.. ?

  • Refresh video source files?

Hi - I recently completed a large iMovie project after incorrectly fiddling with the source files. I now know how to properly prepare the source video and would love to just replace all of it, intact, in iMovie (preserving all my nice transitions, titles and cropping). Is this possible, or am I going to have to do it all over again?
    Thanks for your help!
    -Christian
    More info, not really pertinent:
    - my source files are Mumex MPG, which doesn't work in iMovie.
    - I found a tool (MPEG Streamclip) and converted them to DV
    - when I brought them into iMovie, they were scaled wrong, so I bought the cfx scaling plugin and stretched them back into the correct shape
    - at this point, everything still looked decent in iMovie, even during test mode.
    - however, when I output to MOV or to a DVD (via iDVD, it looks like crap, due to blending of the scaled interlace fields, which i now know about).
    - I have done a new test on a sample file, de-interlacing before iMovie, and it looks much better

  • Where does Lightroom put HDR in the grid view? Is there anyway to have Lightroom stack the HDR file with the source files?

I can't decipher where (and why) the program is putting the HDR image in the grid. I stack all of my HDR source images so they are easy to track and manage. Other apps/plugins allow you to stack resulting images with their source image. That would be great if there's a way to set that in LR preferences.

Thanks, but this doesn't really answer the question about stacking the HDR file with the source files. Yes, it does put the file in the same folder, however many of my folders have 100s of images (that often look similar) and as far as I can tell, LR places them randomly in the sort order. It doesn't appear to put them at the beginning or end of the sort (usually by date), but somewhere randomly in the middle. Even if it could be made clear what method it is using to sort them, that would help locate one file among hundreds.
Ideally, however it should allow you to stack with the stacked source files. Is there anyway to do this? If not, is it a feature that could be requested?

  • I have an external hard drive with numerous WMA files that I would like to download to iTunes. How do I do this on my MAC?

I have an external hard drive with numerous WMA files that I would like to download to iTunes. How do I do  this on my MAC?

You can't write to it because it's formatted as NTFS which OS X will read but not write to. If you want to continue using the drive with both a PC and OS X you will need to download and install NTFS-3G so you can then write to it from your Mac. You can get NTFS-3G at:
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/24481/ntfs-3g
If you want to use the drive exclusively with your Mac then move the data off it and reformat it in Disk Utility (Applications - Utilities - Disk Utilities) as Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)

  • Using AirPort Time Capsule as an external drive with access to files by guest account

Is it possible to use my AirPort Time Capsule as an external drive with access to files by a guest account?
I would like to store a large number of folders containg photographs on my AirPort Time Capsule and allow anyone with a password to access the photographs - at the time of viewing the Time Capsule would be connected to the internet but I wouldn't want users to actually access anything other than the files on the Time Capsule - is this possible?  if so any help in configuring it would be really helpful.

No it is not possible.. Guest is just that.. a guest that is allowed permission to access the internet but none of the local files.
To give a person access to the TC they must have password to access your normal network..
From there it is up to you how you do this.. people cannot actually access files on your computers unless you give them share and password permissions for that.. you can even setup accounts on the TC although I recommend against it.. if you want shared photos anyway. All security on a TC is illusion.. merely pressing the reset and it is all blown away.. so if you are concerned about security don't put stuff on the TC people should not access.. or like your TM backups ensure they are encrypted.
A person can then access you TC and the photos.. but what else on the network??

  • Howto deal with multiple source files having the same filename...?

    Ahoi again.
I'm currently trying to make a package for the recent version of subversive for Eclipse Ganymede and I'm almost finished.
Some time ago the svn.connector components have been split from the official subversive distribution and have to be packed/packaged extra. And here is where my problem arises.
The svn.connector consists (among other things) of two files which are named the same:
    http://www.polarion.org/projects/subversive/download/eclipse/2.0/update-site/features/org.polarion.eclipse.team.svn.connector_2.0.3.I20080814-1500.jar

At the moment makepkg downloads the first one, looks at its cache, and thinks that it already has the second file, too, because it has the same name. As a result, I can neither fetch both files nor use both of them in the build()-function...
Are there currently any mechanisms in makepkg to deal with multiple source files having the same name?
The only solution I see at the moment would be to only include the first file in the source array, install it in the build()-function and then manually download the second one via wget and install it after that (AKA Quick & Dirty).
But of course I would prefer a nicer solution to this problem if possible. ^^
    TIA!

  • How to create a blu-ray disc with multiple source files

    Hello,
How is it possible to create a blu-ray disc, AVCHD recordable DVD with multiple source files from Final Cut Pro 10. Is it possible to create a menu with several chapters corresponding to the sequences (source files)?
Thank you in advance for your support.

Assume you're talking about using the Create Blu-Ray batch template. It's not possible to do with multiple source filles. But if I understand your objectives, you could pretty much get what you think want – discrete movie segments on a single disk with navigation.
The way I'd approach it is by making multiple projects in FCP and then copying the finished versions into a new project, separated by gaps. (You could also use compound clips but I'm not a fan except for very short sequences, which is why I'm suggesting the copy route.) Then export and bring into Compressor.
In Compressor mark your chapters at the gaps between your individual sequences. Then choose the AVCHD option in job actions.
Bear in mind that you'll have to keep the recording time under roughly 30-35 minutes @a5 Mbts/sec
    Good luck.

  • Loosing source location with separate source files

    Hi,
I am compiling my code with g++ (version 2.8.1) using the -g option. When I use one large source file with all my classes and the main routine in it, I can browse the source in the analyzer GUI. If I split out all classes into separate source files (which I was hoping would help me maintain the code better), I am no longer able to browse the source files. Analyzer complains about the directory where all source files live not being accessible.
thanks for any input anyone might be able to offer!
    h.

In Windows XP the path should be
    c:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\com.adobe.formscentral.FormsCentralForAcrobat\Local Store\data
You might notice that in that folder the images and forms are saved as separate objects and not all in one file like the FCDT file.
For local file the FCDT contains all you need. If you ever move to online forms and start collecting data then you will notice that that FCDT doesn't contain the data recieved but only the design of the form. In the case you move the form online then we never save the form locally so there is no way to use a source control to save the form other again than just saving the design format (fcdt file) and not the data received.

  • Swapping drives with videos?

I have a Macpro with 4 internal hard drives. I keep photos on one of the drives and videos on two of the other drives and swap out these drives with other drives that have videos on them. I also use external drives that have videos on them. I want to import videos from all of the different drives that I swap back and forth.
    1. What will happen if I tag videos on the internal drives and then swap them out with other drives? Will it just show a broken link to the video until I put it back in?
    2. Are there any issues with doing this?
    Thanks.

    1. When the drives(s) with videos are removed from the computer the thumbnail for the video will have a '?' badge on it to indicate the file as being offline. Also, the drive itself will be shown as offline in the Folder panel. When drive is put back into computer Lr will see it and the '?' will disappear.
    2. There's no reason why you can't /shouldn't do what you propose, but ensure the drives are uniquely named.

  • Hard Drive Setup for Source Files, Media Cache, Project, Render, etc...

I am working to set up the following drives:
C: SSD for OS and Programs
D: RAID 0 (Three SATA II F3's) for Premiere Projects, where I render too, and Encore Projects
E: RAID 0 (Two SATA III WD Caviar Blacks) for Source Files, media cache, and preview files (if i can get the Marvel controllers/SATA III to RAID that is)
External HD USB 3.0 for backing up projects
Should I be doing this different?
Does anyone think it would be better to use SDD drive(s) instead of HDDs? I

We're almost there Harm, thanks! I'm about to indicate this as being "Answered"
More explicitly, are you suggesting it would look like this?
    C: SSD for:
    OS and Programs
D: RAID 0 (Three SATA II F3's) for:
    Premiere Project
    Where I render project too
    Encore Project
    Source Files (Per Harm's suggestion)
E:  RAID 0 (Two SATA III WD Caviar Blacks) for:
    Media cache
    Preview files
    Pagefile
Is two RAIDs more ideal? That is (provided the above configuration is correct); does the pagefile, media cache, and preview files need to be on a RAID?
Should I partition a piece of my E and use that for the pagefile or pagefile, media cache, and preview files? If yes, which? and how much of a partition should I create?
When setting the pagefile, should I set all the other drives to "none" (except the E of course)?
Lastly, regarding my E: drive for media cache, preview files, and pagefile (assuming all this is supposed to be on a different drive). Would I be better off using an SSD for that? Or should I keep my E: drive HDD with RAID 0? I suppose it will depend on what's more important, read or write speed. If read speed is more important than I can get an SSD for under $200 that will be really fast reads. If it's about writing then my WD's in a RAID will be better. So, which is more important for these things, writing speed or reading speed? If the SSD would be a solution for the extra files then I’ll have this set up:
    C: SSD for:
    OS and Programs
D: RAID 0 (Three SATA II F3's) for:
    Premiere Project
    Where I render project too
    Encore Project
    Source Files (Per Harm's suggestion)
    E:  SSD for:
    Media cache
    Preview files
    Pagefile
F:  One SATA III WD Caviar Black for:
    Extra Backups and stuff
Thanks Harm, I'm about to have an unprecedented editing experience I think! Finally, after more than 7 years!

  • Frame Skip on MPEG2-DVD Export with 24fps source file to 23.976

I'm trying to solve an issue that I've been having for the past week on a DVD I'm hoping to get to the factory for replication by New Years.
My source file is a TRUE 24.00fps 1080p Quicktime Uncompressed (it was shot on film, and originally released on film...that's why it's true 24 instead of 23.976)
I put it in a 720x480 24fps sequence in Premiere CS5, and exported as an MPEG2-DVD for my upcoming DVD.  I used the following settings:
    Quality 5
    Frame Rate: 23.976
    Field Order: Progressive
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Widescreen 16:9
    Render At Maximum Depth
    VBR 1-Pass
    Min: 2.8
    Target: 6
    Max: 9
    GOP Settings:
    M Frames: 3
    N Frames: 12
The resulting DVD always seems fine when I'm playing it, the motion and field order look great.  But in the exact same scene with a heavy-motion steadicam shot through a hallway, there always seems to be a frame skipping.  An entire frame that just goes missing for no apparent reason.  It is not a consistent frame....it changes every time I encode, but it is always within 2 or 3 seconds of the same place in the movie.  The wierd part is the movie doesn't seem to fall out of sync....this frame just disappears.
Any help would be much appreciated.  This is driving me up a wall!!!!

  • Using an External Drive with a ReiserFS File System

I hope this is the most appropriate place to ask this question.
I am looking at adding a SimpleShare NAS device (Made by SimpleTech) to my home network. I am told that the hard drive uses the ReiserFS file system (which is a Linux file system). Two questions?
Does anyone have any experience with the ReiserFS file system? Does it play well with OS X?
Anyone familiar with the SimpleShare units? Any feedback good or bad?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

After doing some research I determined that ReiserFS is a journaled Linux file system and having started to use it, it is working well on the network.

  • FDM import script with selectable source file

    Hi All,
I would like to build an import script attached to an import format that imports a text file with multiple value columns.
    Source file:
Entity, Detail, Account 1, Account 2
    E_abc, D_abc, 100, 200
In FDM this needs to be:
    Entity, Detail, Account, Amount
    E_abc, D_abc, Account 1, 100
    E_abc, D_abc, Account 2, 200
So i need to loop through the file.
My biggest challenge is that when i attach a script to an import format in the import process i cannot select a file from inbox anymore, it has to be a pre-defined file.
Has someone an example or solution how to make a script-import format and enable the select file from inbox?
And if possible has someone an example script of the issue stated above?
    Thanks in advance,
    Marc

    Hi Wayne..
Thanks for your reply (and sorry for the delay in mine).
Could you tell me what script to use to open the file in the befImport script, or how to rename the file in memory to a new one?
So i write a script that rewrites the file to a new file in the inbox but i need to tell FDM that it needs to process this new file.
    Thanks,
    Marc

  • How to exclude src.zip with java source files from archive

    Hello All.
Our team have to prepare our SCs (Sowtware Components) for using outside the company. Meanwhile our source files should be protected. We tried a lot of ways to remove all sources from SCA archives.
This SC should then be integrated in third-party product.
Using build options in compartments gives no effect.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Maxim Maltsev.

    Thanks a lot.
To make code invisible for customer we should build an assembly with build option "include_sources"=false.
DCs in such assemblies won't be visible in inactive branch and could be used as non-editable in active branch of track.
The task is settled - client can modify his own code and use our code only via used DC and their public parts, he is not able to see our code.
Also customer can not see private sources as he gets assemblies without sources. Remember - public parts of type assembly shouldn't be of Source type.
