Help requested for fixing Midi-reliant Widgets that Leopard killed?

While using Tiger, I had a couple of wonderful keyboard widgets that relied on Midi plug-ins to produce their sound. Leopard killed them. I have normal sound (I think) in all of my applications and non-Midi reliant Widgets, but anything Midi is dead and so is Finale Print Music, which won't even start up. Any guidance from the musical side?

I suggest you contact Finale and what other companies whose software you are using.
Leopard did not kill your widgets, they simply are not Leopard compatible and must be upgraded or newer ones downloaded. It's that simple.

  • Two Tricks that helped me for fixing wrong thumbnails and missing images

    I have about 15,000 photos in iPhoto (6.0.2) on an newish iMac. I have seen two oddities:
    (1) Sometimes I get the wrong thumbnail.
    (2) Sometime when I go to edit a photo, the photo never comes up I just get the spining "beach ball".
    Fixes:
    (1) Sometimes I get the wrong thumbnail. I have many duplicate file names. (Blame Canon (or the way I use the camera.)) The confused thumbnails are always from other images with the same file name. My fix is to rename the >title< (not filename) to something unique and then rebuild the thumbnails. The easiest way to rename the photos is use Photos>Batch Change (use set the title to text and append a number (I name them after the subject.)) You can rebuild the thumbnails by starting iPhoto with option and command keys down and selecting the rebuild thumbnail options.
    (2) Sometime when I go to edit a photo, the photo never comes up I just get the spining "beach ball". Exporting the broken image seems to fix it. (You don't need to re-import. Just try exporting the broken image to somewhere (the desk top works) and see if that fixes the problem. (Then throw the exported images away. You don't need them.)
    These forums have been a great help to me. I hope these tricks help someone else. Thanks especially to Lori and Old Toad for consistantly useful answers!

    iPhoto 6.0.2   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   15000+ photos in Library

    Are those negative images B/W photos? If so they may be Grayscale mode. Download the "Embed sRGB Profile" Automator application form Toad's Cellar and drop the original files for those photos onto it. If it's a grayscale mode file it will correct the situation. iPhoto 6 does not play well with Grayscale images.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Backup & Restore loses "Groups" in "Contacts" - request for fix

    Hi,
    I am a new Blackberry user and have found that the Blackberry Link backup/restore functions fail to keep track of my Groups within my Contacts list.  When I carry out a Restore all my Contacts are restored but all my Groups within Contacts disapperar (although the contacts within my Groups are still retained in my Contacts list).
    Does anyone have a fix for this issue please?
    I am using Link v 1.2.1 (build18) and BB release 10.2.1.2977 on my Z10.
    I do not want to Sync my phone contacts with my Address Book on my Mac since I use them independently.
    Thank you for your advice!!

    Yeah, for some reason Groups are not restored. Syncing wouldn't work anyway since groups are not sync'd either.
    I would suggest updating to the latest version of LInk which is 1.2.3.48. I haven't tested for the backup/restore of groups, though.

    I need some help on Oracle performance tuning.
    My environment is VB 6 frontend & Oracle 8

    The problem I am facing is particularly in

    What may be wrong ?
    Are there any parameters that I can

    Hi Vinay,
    There can be many reasons for time delay.
    Here are some--
    1) You may not be releasing the locks on objects quickly after use.
    This can be obtained by querying v$locked_object.
    2) You may be holding many sessions concurrently and not closing the older ones.
    This u can get by querying v$session.
    These are some common problems in multi-user platform.

    I am having trouble with an ITunes I'd request to log in that is not my ITunes ID. E request pops up all the time. It stops the app or net site every time. Like I said it is not my ID. How can I stop or delete this ID?

    Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID. What ID is in the settings. Tap on that ID to change it. Sign Out. Sign in with your own ID. After you sign out with the incorrect ID, restart the iPad before you sign into your correct account.
    Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Go to Settings>Store and sign in.

  • Help request for newbie code

    So I've been trying to learn java and practicing with simple stuff first. I'm trying to create an application to calculate the price of a pizza. I've been having to problem with it, but I can't figure out why.
    The first is that I am doing something wrong with GridBagLayout - the objects in the window aren't set up the way I think they should be. I've been experimenting with removing objects separately and I think the problem might lay with one of my borders. But I'm not sure. The border gets created like this:
    //Border for Toppings
              toppingsPanel = new JPanel();
              toppingsBorder = BorderFactory.createEtchedBorder();
              toppingsBorder = BorderFactory.createTitledBorder(toppingsBorder, "Toppings");
              toppingsPanel.setBorder(toppingsBorder);
              toppingsPanel.add(sausageCheckBox, getConstraints(0,1,3,1,GridBagConstraints.WEST));
              toppingsPanel.add(olivesCheckBox, getConstraints(3,1,3,1,GridBagConstraints.WEST));
              toppingsPanel.add(pepparoniCheckBox, getConstraints(0,2,3,1,GridBagConstraints.WEST));
              toppingsPanel.add(mushroomsCheckBox, getConstraints(3,2,3,1,GridBagConstraints.WEST));
              toppingsPanel.add(salamiCheckBox, getConstraints(0,3,3,1,GridBagConstraints.WEST));
              toppingsPanel.add(anchoviesCheckBox, getConstraints(3,3,3,1,GridBagConstraints.WEST));
              add(toppingsPanel, getConstraints(0,1,6,3,GridBagConstraints.CENTER));The GridBagConstraints are set up like this:
    public GridBagConstraints getConstraints(int gridx, int gridy, int gridwidth, int gridheight, int anchor)
              GridBagConstraints c = new GridBagConstraints();
              c.insets = new Insets(5, 5, 5, 5);
              c.ipadx = 0;
              c.ipady = 0;
              c.gridx = gridx;
              c.gridy = gridy;
              c.gridwidth = gridwidth;
              c.gridheight = gridheight;
              c.anchor = anchor;
              return c;
         }The second problem I suspect is bigger because it feels like I've missed some major java concept. I've tried to set it up so that there is a JTextField in the window and when the user clicks the "Calculate" button, the price shows up in the text field. The way it is right now, when the user clicks the Calculate button, absolutely nothing happens. The code for what the buttons do is:
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
              Object source = e.getSource();
              if (source == exitButton)
                   System.exit(0);
              else if (source == calculateButton)
                   new UserImput();
         }UserImput calculates a price and then edits the textfield. Is this the best way to even being going about this? I have three major worries about the UserImput class. The first is that I'm unsure if it should be extending the class that sets up the panel and buttons. I have it extending that class, right now. The second worry is with the double price, which I use to calculate the price based the size and toppings that are selected. To modify the textfield, my compiler tells me I can only use Strings, so I have converted the double to a string using the following code:
    String givePrice;
    public String toString(double price) {
              return givePrice;
         }The third worry I have is with the modification to the text field. I actually think this is all correct but the text field doesn't display the price so maybe I'm using this incorrectly?
    public void modifyFields(){
              textFieldWithPrice.setText(givePrice);
              textFieldWithPrice.setColumns(10);
              textFieldWithPrice.setEditable(false);
         }Thanks for bearing with me on this. I've been trying to figure out what I've been doing wrong the last few days by messing around and googling but mostly I just find intros telling me how to set things up in different situations. Apologies for what I am sure is badly-done code.

    I didn't try out your gridbag code snippet but it looks like you might be trying to use the
    gridwidth constraint to control the display size of the checkBoxes. It doesn't work that
    way.
    Here's one way to put this (what it seems you are trying to do) together.
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.text.NumberFormat;
    import javax.swing.*;

            if(ac.equals("CALCULATE"))
                showPrice();
            if(ac.equals("EXIT"))
                System.exit(0);

                if(checkBoxes[j].isSelected())
                    numberOfToppings++;
            double price = basicPrice +
                           numberOfToppings * pricePerTopping;
            label.setText(nf.format(price));

            gbc.insets = new Insets(2,15,2,0);
            gbc.weightx = 1.0;
            gbc.weighty = 1.0;
            gbc.anchor = GridBagConstraints.WEST;
            gbc.gridwidth = GridBagConstraints.REMAINDER;
            for(int j = 0; j < checkBoxes.length; j++) {

  • Another help request for K7N2-delta

    I was trying to overclock my memory and when my system rebooted after saving my settings in the bios, I just get a black screen. On the D-bracket, the top two are red and hangs there, which, according to the manual, means that either my processor is damaged or not installed properly.
    I tried rebooting in safe mode by changing my J10 jumper and clearing the cmos but to no avail. Could I have damaged my CPU just by changing a setting?
    Specs:
    CPU: AMD Athlon Barton 2500+
    Motherboard: K7N2 Delta-ILSR
    Video card: Saphire Radeon 9600 Pro 256 mb AGP
    RAM: Corsair Value Select, PC2700, 256mb, 512 mb, and 1 gb of RAM.

    Guys, the Insert key reset was for the K7N2-Delta2 series, which didn't have the safemode FSB jumper, it does not apply to the K7N2 Delta
    You're asking for trouble by a) using cheap value-branded RAM, and b) mixing sticks of different sizes
    Also you always get best results by running memory clock at same speed as CPU FSB clock.
    Take out all the sticks of RAM and have just one installed, then see if it will start up again
    I read a review of how well this memory overclocks, so I thought I'd give it a shot.  Also, the value-brand for Corsair is rated just under their XMS series; it's solid as far as I can tell.
    Anywho, I've always had the 256mb one in the slot ever since the incident anyways. Thanks for the warning, I never knew mixing different sizes had negative effects.
    Quote from: Maxwell Smart on 18-February-08, 02:18:35
    I own this board... it's not the insert key, but rather the delete key... so yes, as soon as your pc boots up, hit the delete key repeatedly (or hold it down) and then it will let you go into the BIOS.
    I'll try that once I get home. Thanks for the info!

    "I was trying to overclock my memory..."
    There is a miss-print in your manual for the CPU D-LED, I had the same in my K7N2G-ILSR manual.
    So it's stuck at the hard drive or at the system power on? I'm assuming the latter since my hard drive shouldn't be having any problems.
    Yea, I don't know what I was thinking when I decided to try this. This is what I get for it, I guess.

  • Help request for digital ou

    This is possible to connect a digital out of a sound blaster audigy 2 to ampli of my home theater it use a optical cable ? if it possible how i make it please ?
    Thanx alot

    Hi Ralph
    No, it seems that is not the problem. But it raises another question. The option "Allow Multple Simultaneous streams" is checked. It's not highlighted so I can't uncheck it even though it says "Quicktime's default is to play one stream at a time...[can change to multiple] although it may degrade performance if your available bandwidth is exceeded". Could this be a reason why the picture quality I see is not great? And if so, how can I change back to one stream?
    I'm getting closer to an answer by trawling through other threads as I've been able to confirm that I can connect with a PC (correct Ports etc) - although not able to test whether the PC could hear me... I also now have an explanation why I can't do audio conferencing with a PC: "Cross-platform audio-only chats can only be done between iChat on the Mac and Trillian or Trillian Pro on the PC at this time. AIM 5.9 on the PC does not support this option with either client".
    Thanks to all contributors!

  • The danger of memory target in Oracle 11g - request for discussion.

    Hello, everyone.
    This is not a question, but kind of request for discussion.
    I believe that many of you heard something about automatic memory management in Oracle 11g.
    The concept is that Oracle manages the target size of SGA and PGA. Yes, believe it or not, all we have to do is just to tell Oracle how much memory it can use.
    But I have a big concern on this. The optimizer takes the PGA size into consideration when calculating the cost of sort-related operations.
    So what would happen when Oracle dynamically changes the target size of PGA? Following is a simple demonstration of my concern.

    26000th execution
    27000th execution
    28000th execution
    29000th execution
    30000th execution
    yep, I got it! <-- the pga target changed with 30000th hard parse
    -- Second 10053 trace for same query
    alter session set events '10053 trace name context forever, level 1';
    select /*+ use_hash(t1 t2) */ count(*)
    from t1, t2
    where t1.c1 = t2.c1 and t1.c2 = t2.c2
    alter session set events '10053 trace name context off';With above test case, I found that
    1. Oracle invalidates the query when internal pga aggregate size changes, which is quite natural.
    2. With changed pga aggregate size, Oracle recalculates the cost. These are excerpts from the both of the 10053 trace files.
    -- First 10053 trace file
    PARAMETERS USED BY THE OPTIMIZER
      PARAMETERS WITH ALTERED VALUES
    Compilation Environment Dump
    _smm_max_size                       = 11468 KB
    _smm_px_max_size                    = 28672 KB
    optimizer_use_sql_plan_baselines    = false
    optimizer_use_invisible_indexes     = true
    -- Second 10053 trace file
    PARAMETERS USED BY THE OPTIMIZER
      PARAMETERS WITH ALTERED VALUES
    Compilation Environment Dump
    _smm_max_size                       = 13107 KB
    _smm_px_max_size                    = 32768 KB
    optimizer_use_sql_plan_baselines    = false
    optimizer_use_invisible_indexes     = true
    Bug Fix Control Environment10053 trace file clearly says that Oracle recalculates the cost of the query with the change of internal pga aggregate target size. So, there is a great danger of unexpected plan change while Oracle dynamically controls the memory segments.
    I believe that this is a desinged behavior, but the negative side effect is not negligible.
    I just like to hear your opinions on this behavior.
    Do you think that this is acceptable? Or is this another great feature that nobody wants to use like automatic tuning advisor?

    I made a slight modification with my test case to have mixed workloads of hard parse and logical reads.
    *.memory_target=200m
    *.memory_max_target=200m
    create table t3(c1 int, c2 char(1000));
    insert into t3 select level, level from dual connect by level <= 50000;
    declare
      pat1     varchar2(1000);
      pat2     varchar2(1000);
      va       number;
    begin
      select ksppstvl into pat1
        from sys.xm$ksppi i, sys.xm$ksppcv v
        where i.indx = v.indx
        and i.ksppinm = '__pga_aggregate_target';
      for idx in 1 .. 1000000 loop
        -- try many patterns here!
        execute immediate 'select count(*) from t3 where 10 = mod('||idx||',10)+1' into va;
        if mod(idx, 100) = 0 then
          sys.dbms_system.ksdwrt(2, idx || 'th execution');
          for p in (select ksppinm, ksppstvl
              from sys.xm$ksppi i, sys.xm$ksppcv v
              where i.indx = v.indx
              and i.ksppinm in ('__shared_pool_size', '__db_cache_size', '__pga_aggregate_target')) loop
              sys.dbms_system.ksdwrt(2, p.ksppinm || ' = ' || p.ksppstvl);
          end loop;
          select ksppstvl into pat2
          from sys.xm$ksppi i, sys.xm$ksppcv v
          where i.indx = v.indx
          and i.ksppinm = '__pga_aggregate_target';
          if pat1 <> pat2 then
            sys.dbms_system.ksdwrt(2, 'yep, I got it! pat1=' || pat1 ||', pat2='||pat2);
            exit;
          end if;
        end if;
      end loop;
    end;
    /This test case showed expected and reasonable result, like following:
    100th execution
    __shared_pool_size = 92274688
    __db_cache_size = 16777216
    __pga_aggregate_target = 83886080
    200th execution
    __shared_pool_size = 92274688
    __db_cache_size = 16777216
    __pga_aggregate_target = 83886080
    300th execution
    __shared_pool_size = 88080384
    __db_cache_size = 20971520
    __pga_aggregate_target = 83886080
    400th execution
    __shared_pool_size = 92274688
    __db_cache_size = 16777216
    __pga_aggregate_target = 83886080
    500th execution
    __shared_pool_size = 88080384
    __db_cache_size = 20971520
    __pga_aggregate_target = 83886080
    1100th execution
    __shared_pool_size = 92274688
    __db_cache_size = 20971520
    __pga_aggregate_target = 83886080
    1200th execution
    __shared_pool_size = 92274688
    __db_cache_size = 37748736
    __pga_aggregate_target = 58720256
    yep, I got it! pat1=83886080, pat2=58720256Oracle continued being bounced between shared pool and buffer cache size, and about 1200th execution Oracle suddenly stole some memory from PGA target area to increase db cache size.
    (I'm still in dark age on this automatic memory target management of 11g. More research in need!)
    I think that this is very clear and natural behavior. I just want to point out that this would result in unwanted catastrophe under special cases, especially with some logic holes and bugs.
