Help required for RAC backup

Hello Support,
We have Oracle 11g R1 RAC enviornement on Windows 2003 Enterprise.
We want to take full database backup to restore in case of any failure.
We are planning to install Oracle on single instance to different hardware and location having same windows.
I appreciate to have proper steps for analysis please.
Currently what are considering are;
- Shutdown RAC database
- Copy control/datafile/redo log files
- paste to other hardware
- using Oracle configuration manager to create template for the existing RAC database.
please add further steps for anaylsis
Thanks

Copy the Cold Backup.
Startup one instance of the database.
And that's it. You are DONE.
If you want to do a cleaner job you can also
Disable the second instance (thread) and then drop the Redo Log Groups of that thread on the Single Node after you have copied the Cold Backup.
I agree with your customer and disagree with the other posters in this thread. A Cold Backup Restore is much much easier than an RMAN Duplicate.
The documentation, unfortunately, covers scenarios where you delete an ORACLE_HOME and/or a Node from an existing RAC Cluster :
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/rac.111/b28254/adddelwin.htm#CHDFAEJB
See the ALTER DATABASE commands : DISABLE INSTANCE and DROP LOGFILE clauses.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/statements_1004.htm#i2079942
Do these only the the second database server where you copy the Cold Backup.
Do NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT do anything on the actual RAC environment !!

  • Hardware required for RAC setup at home

    Hi All,
    Could you please suggest the Hardware required for practicing RAC at home.
    Regards,
    VN

    Hi, "user7202581",
    For practicing purposes, you could consider a VBox / OVM based setup at home. We have used those for Hands On Labs in the course of Oracle Open World more than once. I recommend you use a machine with at least 8GB memory and dual core (HT enabled) processors. Some configuration examples: Lenovo Laptop, ThinkPad, 8GB, 320GB HDD, i5 dual core, 2.5 GHz, Win 7 or a Mac Mini, latest version, i5 dual core, 2.3GHz and 8GB memory would do the trick for a two node cluster. Note that I mention the hosting OS in case you use VBox. For OVM based setups you either have to use a dual boot system or use a dedicated machine. You will be somewhat restricted with respect to the hardware failures you can impose on this system obviously (due to the VM setup), but for practicing purposes, you should find those environments sufficient, I think. Also see: RAC on OVM templates: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/vm/rac-template-11grel2-166623.html
    Hope that helps. Thanks,
    Markus

  • Requirement for RAC - Linux AS mandatory ?

    Does the standard Linux 8 version can be used for RAC R2 or we need only Linux AS for the RAC configuration.
    What is the linux requirement for the RAC R2 configuration ?
    Thanks,
    Ashok

    Thanks for the info.,
    could you tell me what firewire components you are using? I know that we need the fireware cards in the pcs/servers, the firewire hub, and the firewire drive. However, I am having difficulty identifying which firewire components to buy, ie., which ones are compatible with Linux Red Hat (AS). The Red Hat HCL revealed nothing to me. Any info you could give me on the components you are using would be greatly appreciated and save me a lot of time.
    Thanks again,

  • Help required for unicode compatibilty

    Dear All,
    We are in a process of analyzing the impact of unicode compatibility for our environment.
    Following is our scenario:
    - ECC6.0 is non unicode systsem
    - Need to buid unicode CRM 7, SCM 7, PI 7.1 and BI7
    - Need to integrate the above systems to non unicode ECC system.
    Our questions are :
    1. Is there any performance consideration when using communication between an Unicode and non-Unicode system?
       Is Unicode - Unicode faster than Unicode - non-Unicode communication performance wise?
    2. Do we face any  technical or functinal problems while trying to integrate
       unicode BI/ NW Java Stack  to non unicode systems.
    3. Do we need to review our sizing estimations due to unicode implemenation?
    5. what will be the storage consumption increase for unicode systems compared to non unicode?
    It would be greatly helpful for me if you can clarify these doubts.
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi,
    1. I think no one has really measured this. I expect a slightly higher requirement for Unicode <--> Non-Unicode interfaces.
    2. Please have a look at SAP Notes 838402, 73606, 975768 and 1358929 for restrictions in Non-Unicode systems. SAP highly recommends to go for Unicode in the whole landscape.
    3. and 5.  If you use the SAP quicksizer (http://service.sap.com/quicksizing), then Unicode is integrated.
    " Please note that the Quick Sizer results include Unicode requirements. For more
    information on additional requirements caused by Unicode, see
    http://service.sap.com/unicode -> Unicode Media Library -> Unicode information on
    specific topics: SAP Business Suite Unicode Hardware Requirements"

  • PCUI 4.0, Search Help Required for New field

    Hi everyone
    I am working in CRM 4.0 Sales Order application
    We created a new field in CRM sales Order in Header level in SAP GUI through EEWB.
    The search help for the new field is working fine in SAP GUI. We want to add the same field with F4 help functionaliity in PCUI as well.
    The field has been added in structure CRMT_BSP_SLS_OD1_General. It also shows domain value for the field however Origin of input field ie empty
    The field has been added in PCUI and is successfully showing data inputted in SAPGUI
    However we need search help functionality for the field
    i tried these two steps
    1) i checked on domain value checkbox and changed the field from input to dropdown. However the dropdown is empty in PCUI. Whenever i check box domain values for some field then all the possible values in SPA GUI are displayed in PCUI, however this is not working here.
    2) I put Value_table in F4 of the field
    This is also throwing up empty values
    Am i missing something in this case
    Please let me know how to go about it
    TIA
    Asad

    Hi Frederic
    Thanks for your response
    I am not sure what is meant by regenerating the field group in this case
    I added the entries for my view in the field group and generated the layout of the field group (If this is what you mean)
    The field is working fine. I am able to save values to the field and able to see values saved in GUI.
    I haven't linked search help of the field in PCUI
    I am not sure how to go about it.
    I used the data element in the structure for the field.
    The data element has Domain entry in <b>Entry Help/Check</b> of the structure
    If i check the Domain Value checkbox in my field group then the domain values should be available in dropdown if the field is dropdown
    However i am not able to see the possible values of the field (It is present in SAP GUI)
    Does something else needs to be done in this case
    TIA

  • Help required for disabling RAC ethernet

    Hi Guys!
    We want to test Oracle RAC having 2 nodes on Windows platform.
    We are testing the worst scanerio by disabling the ethernet cards on one of the node of RAC
    Just want to know if we should disable "Public" ethernet or "Private" ethernet on node 2 of the RAC please?
    Or disabling both ethernets on node 2 are required
    Thanks

    Just a sidenote:
    11.2.0.2 introduced a concept of "Rebootless node fencing".
    This especially handles the loss of interconnect in 11.2.0.2:
    In most cases only the processes will be killed, and then the clusterstack will get restarted in the event of loss of the interconnect.
    Only if the killing of I/O processes is not successfull (or takes to long) then the cluster restart will get escalated to a node reboot.
    Just checked... wonder why this is not in the new feature section....

  • Help required for temporary removing node 2 from the cluster

    Hi Support,
    There are some hardware issues on node 2 of 11g RAC cluster and vendor going to fix it;
    We want to make node 2 not available until they fix it;
    The user will continue with node 1 of the cluster;
    Following are the current status of the site and I'm considering to perform the folowing task
    while the folllowing command from node 1, i got the following output
    D:\srvctl status database –d EPVAL
    Instance epval1 is running on node corskmaps001
    Instance epval2 is running on node corskmaps001
    D:\srvctl status database –d EPPROD
    Instance epprod1 is running on node corskmaps001
    Instance epprod2 is running on node corskmaps001
    I made the following steps in chorological order; I appreciate if someone can correct me if I made any mistake or add/amend/update as per requirement.
    Assuming corskmaps002 is our passive mode which will be taken away by HP for hardware checking;
    srvctl stop instance –d EPPROD -i EPPROD2
    srvctl stop instance –d EPVAL -i EPVAL2
    srvctl stop listerner_corskmaps002 –n corskmaps002
    srvctl stop nodeapps -n corskmaps002
    Do we require stopping service also once we stop the instance? Following are the commands if your answer is yes;
    srvctl stop service -d EPROD -i EPPROD2
    srvctl stop service -d EPVAL -i EPVAL2
    srvctl disable service -d EPPROD -s EPPROD2
    srvctl disable service -d EPVAL -s EPVAL2
    I appreciate help
    Thanks

    Hi Bjoern,
    I agree with you, very valid point, thanks for that;
    Just for clarification, do you thing the sequence should be like this?
    ********disable command to start with***********
    srvctl disable service -d EPPROD -s EPPROD2
    srvctl disable service -d EPVAL -s EPVAL2
    *********than instance stop commad**********
    srvctl stop instance –d EPPROD -i EPPROD2
    srvctl stop instance –d EPVAL -i EPVAL2
    ************than listener stopping command********
    srvctl stop listerner_corskmaps002 –n corskmaps002
    *************than node stopping command*********
    srvctl stop nodeapps -n corskmaps002
    *********do we also require stopping of the service ?>***************************
    Do we require stopping service also once we stop the instance? Following are the commands if your answer is yes;
    srvctl stop service -d EPROD -i EPPROD2
    srvctl stop service -d EPVAL -i EPVAL2
    Can you please eleborate further
    Then, you also might want to add '-o transactional' or "transactional local" to the
    instance stop command so that running transactions are not affected by this.
    Thanks

  • Help Required with HD Backup

    Hi,
    A Friend of mine has a PC with windows on 2x Samsung 320gb HD's in Raid 0, one of the drives started to fail, so he put in his 1tb backup drive that he made a hd image using boot it dos software. He has now purchased 2x Corsair M4 128gb SSD's and made a volume Raid 0, when trying to backup from the 1tb drive the software says that a min hd of approx 320gb is required even though the total used on windows in only approx 140gb. and the new SSD volume is approx 240gb
    The software is by terrabyte.
    also when we did a hd tach with 1x ssd and 2x ssd the performance was similar, not mutch gain. I am not familiar with SSD or HD image backups so please advise. or is there any other software recomendations.
    Thanks

    Well most software imaging requires the same size as the source.  What in the
    world is the objective of a RAID 0 boot disk.  As has been said here while it
    may help load a program faster, it will not run the program faster
    Also HDtach is not a good benchmark for SSD's

  • Help! Urgent help required for adjusting image

    Hi - hoping someone can help.
    I sent the attached PDF -  http://www.sensecreative.co.uk/custUploads/SENSE-36-7977-95928/77317/SENSE-36-7977-95928-7 7317-2440.zip - to print with Sense Creative. The cards were printed and they've turned out quite visibly green on the reverse (where it should be white).
    I've printed the artwork on several printers I have access to and it looks as it should, however SC are saying that the issue is with the artwork
    "The green tinge you see on the reverse of these cards is prevalent in the artwork. The makeup of the background is approximately c-15 m-11 y-15 k-0. the predominant levels of the yellow and cyan will give you the green tint. Upping the levels of the artwork in or substituting the cyan, magenta and yellow levels with more black in Photoshop will likely give you the result you require. We are satisfied that in both instances, the artwork has printed correctly and the colours are well within tolerance given the nature of the artwork."
    So, I'm in a bit of a pickle as the cards are needed for an event next week.
    How do I change the image levels? Or are they talking nonsense and trying to pass the buck?
    Help!

    station_two,
    Acrobat View> Tools> Print Production> Output Preview: Object Inspector will call out the objects' profiles if you click on each one individually (in this case all appeaar to be "Device CMYK" or Untagged CMYK)
    untagged CMYK has the same pitfalls as untagged RGB... if one applys or assumes the wrong SOURCE PROFILE it doesn't CONVERT colors to Monitor RGB or Print Space correctly

  • Urgent Help Required for Connect Four Game

    Hi all,
    I am a student and I have a project due 20th of this month, I mean May 20, 2007 after 8 days. The project is about creating a Connect Four Game. I have found some code examples on the internet which helped me little bit. But there are lot of problems I am facing developing the whole game. I have drawn the Board and the two players can play. The players numbers can fill the board, but I have problem implementing the winner for the game. I need to implement the hasWon() method for Horizontal win, Vertical win and Diagonal win. I also found some code examples on the net but I was unable to make it working. I have 5 classes and one interface which I m implementing. The main problem is how to implement the hasWon() method in the PlayGame class below with Horizontal, vertical and diagonal moves.
    Sorry there is so much code.
    This the interface I must implement, but now I am only implementing the int move() of this interface. I will implement the rest later after solving the winner problem with your help.
    Interface code..............
    interface Player {
    void init (Boolean color);
    String name ();
    int move ();
    void inform (int i);

    System.out.println();

    }//end move method
    public void init (Boolean color)
    public void inform (int i)
    public String name()
    return "Koonda";

    Hi all,
    I am a student and I have a project due 20th of this month, I mean May 20, 2007 after 8 days.
    Interface code..............
    interface Player {
    void init (Boolean color);
    String name ();

    player1 = scan.nextInt();
    System.out.println ("Hey number"+player1+" are you prepared to CONNECT FOUR");
    System.out.println();
    return player1;
    //Player.move();
    //return player1;
    }//end move method
    public void init (Boolean color)
    public void inform (int i)
    public String name()
    return "Koonda";

  • Help Required for Mapping Key figures from Cube to APO Planning area.

    Hello Experts,
    We have created cube in APO BW and now we want to map it to Planning area how we can map.
    Can any body explain how we can map keyfigures?
    What is the use of livechache how it will be updated?
    Regards
    Ram

    Hi,
    I am not very sure about the 9ARE aggregate (haven't used it in backups), but RTSCUBE is used to copy time Series (TS) KF data from cube to planning area (SNP or DP).
    Are you trying to restore some time series data from your backup cube to the planning area? If yes, then do a mapping of characteristic from cube to planning area in RTSCUBE, and also map the TS KF between cube and planning area.
    If your KF is not a time series KF, then you can't copy it from cube to planning area. You could get data to cube for some reporting, otherwise I am not sure what use the backup is for you. For SNP, most of the data would be received from R/3, so there's not much point in having a backup.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks - Pawan

    Hi,
    I am looking for a single sign-on solution for Tomcat platform. This solution should work on Active Directory-Internet Explorer 6-Tomcat 5 combo.
    The requirement is - When a user requests a certain page from his browser, the web server must be able to identify the (active directory domain name/domain user name) from his request.
    I tried a product by appliedcrypto.com, which works on Kerberos/SPNEGO, but it doesn't seem to be working.
    I am running on a very tight schedule, please help me out.
    Thanx and Regards
