Advice to original poster:
If you couldn't read enough posts to figure out which forum was appropriate, how are you going to be able to read replies to your question? You should go back to wherever you found Virtualbox and Solaris and read the product documenteation. Installation instructions are already there.

  • Needed help in Installing Solaris 10 on sparc box from windows remotely

    Hi All,
I have few Sun Ultra Sparc boxes. I m accessing them only through putty session(serail port) from my windows system.
Now there is a need for me to install Solaris 10 in the sparc box. But the sparc box doesn't have any DVD drive. I have an external DVD drive.
Can somebody help me out to install Solaris on the sparc box with the components I have.
    1) Windows system with putty
    2) External DVD drive
    3) Sun sparc box.
    Thanks for your help,
    T.R.Santhosh

If you run into a problem that causes the machine not to boot, you can't interact with it via putty. You'd need a physical connection, usually either the keyboard and screen or a serial connection. I would always plan to be able to do so during an upgrade.
If you have sufficient disk space, the easiest thing to do would be to copy over the DVD iso, then mount it up with lofi, and do a live upgrade.
Windows doesn't read rockridge format disks. I would worry that having the windows machine read the ISO filesystem and send the files over would cause name issues. That's why getting the full ISO and mounting it locally on the Sparc is best. Fortunately, it doesn't require a physical drive.

  • Help require with installing Adobe Acrobat onto my Macbook Pro Retina.

Help require with installing Adobe Acrobat onto my Macbook Pro Retina.
I have successfully installed all of my creative cloud apps with the exception being acrobat.
I cannot print from Indesign to PDF.
I have unistalled, reinstalled and still no Adobe Acrobat.
I now have to go back to Windows 8 and create the PDF's there.
Any one know how to get around this issue?
    Thanks in advance
    Kelvin

OSX has effectively killed the ability to print to pdf, (print to pdf eliminates most of the "Rich features" of current pdf).
Export from InDesign, always, excpet for the 1% of the time where you know why print to pdf would produce a better result.

Help me in installing Solaris Express, Developer Edition
When i am trying to install Solaris, system hangs and the moniter is switcher off when the system goes in GUI mode.

    Hello,
first of all: Try to run the HCTS (Hardware
Compatibility Test Suite) first, it's available
    here:
    http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/hcts/device_detect.htm
    l
This you can run from Windows, and it will list all
hardware that has drivers, and all those, that do not
have drivers (including some public domain drivers).
After that, you have the possibility to install
Solaris WITHOUT a GUI, use one of the two "terminal"
modes. The first Is still a GUI, as it only starts X
and opens a terminal, in which then the installer
runs. The second does NOT start X, but runs the
installer on the console. Try this one, and once you
get through that, you can afterwards figure out the
    settings of the Xserver.Hi ,
i have installed the solaris using console.
Still GUI is not starting, the moniter is switched off when GUI gets started
I used Hardware Compatibility Test Suite, its say that system is supported
    by Solaris.
Should i have change BIOS setting to stated the system

  • How to install SUNWi1cs in Solaris 10 under Virtual Box

Hallo!I am a total newbie in Solaris.
I have installed Solaris 10 (guest OS)via Virtual Box in XP (host OS).I would like to install Oracle 10g in Solaris 10 but prerequisite s/w like SUNWi1cs and SUNWi15cs aren’t installed.
I have been trying to install this through commands such as
    pkgadd –d /cdrom/cdrom0/Solaris_10/Product SUNWi1cs SUNWi15cs
but this directory does not exist.
How would I access this directory ?Will this mean mounting the CD-ROM with a Solaris 10 DVD-R disc or can I access the Solaris 10 virtual box files in the XP path shown below
    C:\Documents and Settings\JOEY\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning\SOLARIS_10\PRODUCT
The Oracle 10g for Solaris zipped file is in the XP OS.How do I transfer this file (and any other files in XP)into Solaris 10 to be able to install Oracle 10g in Solaris under Virtualbox?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
If u have installed Solaris operating system on some VMWare by iso file then it will treat iso file as CD. So that following steps will resolve ur issue.
    1. Mount that iso file into /mnt file system.
For example ur iso mounted file system like this:-
    /mnt/cdrom/Solaris_10/Product
    2. Then run this command:-
    pkgadd -d /mnt/Solaris_10/Product SUNWi1cs SUNWi512
It will ask would to like to add these then type Y
    3. Successful installed package message will displayed.
It is the right way to add package from source

  • Help required in installing VM Server and Manager 3.1.1 + latest patch.

    Hi,
I have 3 servers with 12GB ram and two 300 GB HDD (local) each, No Shared storage.
I am planning to install Oracle VM server 3.1.1 Build 544 and VM Manager 3.1.1 Build 524.
VM manager installed on Dom0 in one of the VM server (found some blog which describes how to implement it).
I have some questions running through my mind and help to solve it s really appreciated.
    1) Is ORACLE VM SERVER PATCH 3.1.1-524 RELEASE is complete OS or its just patch which has to installed over 3.1.1 VM server. Because the patch readme says *"This patch update is a complete Oracle VM Server 3.1.1 installer ISO" ??*
    2) I read somewhere in the forum that the 3.X version cannot use the disk where OS is installed as storage repository. in that case i will be loosing around 250 GB on each machine, on which i have installed VM server. Is it TRUE??
    3) Is it possible to update VM server first and then update VM manager ( before creating server pool etc) ??
The servers are not connected to internet or SAN no i cannot use YUM or SAN update methods and I have very limited access to this servers physically.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Its patch 544. Both can be downloaded and are complete installs. If you have YUM setup in an existing environment.... the VM servers can be upgraded via YUM. The VM Manager has to be upgraded via the installer.
    2. Yes. This is true. Maybe your local RAID controller can present the storage as two separate LUNS/Disks even though they maybe setup as a mirror. If not, then you're out of luck. Virtual box can use local storage that OS is installed on. Oracle VM 3.1.1 can't.
    3. Yes. You can install the 544 version of 3.1.1 on the servers before attaching them to the VM Manager. YUM should be used to upgrade the servers if they are already attached to a VM Manager. You would then upgrade the manager first and then upgrade the servers.

there are security levels for wpa connection. such as low- normal - high ( 64 bit -128 bit -256 bit )
if you select 64 bit secure method, you need to enter 8 characters for password. if you enter 7 and save and exit, some computers can connect but some not. make sure you have 8- 16- 32 characters and entered correctly.
to check if it's password issue, disable the secure connection and try again. if it doesn't work, we can try some other solutions.

  • Can't run Solaris OVF on Virtual Box 3.2

I just installed Virtual Box 3.2 on Windows 7 64-bit and I wanted to use the Solaris OVF (downloaded from the site). I imported the ovf file to the VB, using the default setting except the memory (changed from 768 to 1024). After it's done, it just wont start. it boots up then it gives an error:
syncing file system 1 done (sometimes it's 2 done, or 1 1 done)
then it dumps the kernel, then reboots. it does this over and over. i can boot it up in single-user mode.
are they just not compatible or something?

I'm able to run JSF 2.1 on Tomcat 7 without error, so it's something specific to your environment or application. Looking at the stack trace, I see several instances of "java.lang.IncompatibleClassChangeError", which suggests the code is being loaded by a VM with a different Java-compliance level than the VM that compiled the code. You might want to look at your VM settings for the project and the runtime configuration for the server. There may be more issues, but first I would rule that out.

You could try and add the latest recommended patch cluster from sunsolve.sun.com, this looks very much like a software error, and a recent patch cluster might cure it.
The information you pasted doesn't really give any clues. Could you paste a trace as well?
To get a trace, go to the /var/crash/<hostname>/ directory, which directory contains a number of files named vmcore.<a number> and unix.<a number>.
To get the trace from these crash files, run mdb <one of the numbers>
once mdb started, type "$c", this will display the trace.
For example, if your /var/crash/<hostname> directory contains the files:
    unix.2 unix.3 vmcore.2 vmcore.3
    you would run
    # mdb 2
    or
    # mdb 3
.. exit mdb by typing ctrl+d when you are done.

  • Help required to instal a programme

    Hello,
I have a Macbook air and would like to a programme from a USB - how do i do this, i'm a new user of MAc stuff

You missed the second step above.   If a .dmg or zip file it needs to be launched by opening it from there or unzipped if a zipped application
a disk image (dmg) will launch and usually ask to install in your application folder (depending on the app)
open it from desktop and look for it to ask you to install to your application
Since you didnt mention which application it is, its only a generalization at this point.
You can think of a dmg like a exe file in a PC.....open it and follow the instructions to install it in your applications for use.

  • Please suggest the fastest way to install Solaris x86 PC 30 boxes

I've already tested one and it's successfully installed.
I have to install 30 boxes , all are same spec.
Please advise the fastest procedure to install.
Note : There is no sparc machine.

Only problem with imaging a Solaris x86 box is that your machines will end up with the same hostid (which is pseudo-randomly generated at Solaris installation time for x86). This may, or may not, be a problem, depending on what commercial software you use...
To avoid this, you have to use jumpstart, or do some serious hacking.

  • Minimize and maximize Solaris 10 installed on VM virtual Box.

How can I minimize and maximize Solaris 10 installed on VM virtual Box.
    Thanks
    Paulo

Solaris is working just fine. Everything is ok. now since I open Solaris via VM Virtual box, the Solaris main page fills only half of the monitor. I can minimize/maximize the Virtual Box. But Solaris dimensions are fix and doesn't change. This leaves me a little room to open applications on Solaris. I had the same problems with my Ubuntu, by installing adds-on it was fixed. For Solaris I installed “Guest additions”, didn’t help.
    Thanks

  • Installing ArchLinx+Guest Additions in Virtual Box(error during guest)

The Arch Linux install seemed to go through smoothly.  I installed it using the wiki page, rebooted, and logged in as root.  I am installing this for a class, so trying to follow the instructions to do so.  Next, we are supposed to install 'Guest Additions' for Virtual box using the instructions below:
Now, you should install "Guest Additions" for VirtualBox. Guest additions allows you to share files between host and guest systems. This is very convenient for development as you will need to copy files back and forth between the host and guest operating systems. You can download Guest Additions at *link*.
You need to start the virtual machine before you can continue installing Guest Additions. To do that, just select your VM name from the list on the left hand side in VirtualBox and click Start. After logging into Arch Linux, you should mount this ISO image just as you had mounted the Arch Linux ISO file. You can then mount the cdrom inside the Guest OS by doing:
    mkdir /mnt/cdrom
    mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom
Now install the guest additions by doing:
    cd /mnt/cdrom
    sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run
This will compile and install the kernel modules necessary for Guest Additions functionality. Please note that if you
recompile your own kernel (later as a part of project requirements), you will have to run this again so that the modules are
compiled and installed for the new kernel too.
Under settings for VBox, I mounted the Guest Additions image file, started Arch Linux, logged in as root, and followed the instructions above.  I was able to do all of the above, but when I excute the last line, I am given this message:
    http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/3971/linuxd.png
I have no idea where to go from here, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also,  I feel like I have installed Arch Linux incorrectly.  All the videos and pictures I see show a GUI type interface, but all I am presented with is a text-based interface.  When I boot it up, it asks me to log in, and I am then taken to the command line, but I don't see the same GUI interface everyone else seems to have.  Is this normal for a basic Arch Linux install?  Thanks in advance.

Arch has no GUI until you install one. Some people don't want a GUI, so it's left to the user. The base install has only a command line interface.
You should probably read the Beginners Guide.
In case you missed them, there's two short articles, also on the wiki that might help you understand Arch, Arch Linux and The Arch Way
