Help resolving printing problem with v10.6.8 and Canon MP780 PIXMA

Hello,
My Canon MP780 PIXMA stopped being able to print text in black some months ago and having scoured the internet for advice I've discovered that this issue is not that uncommon. This printer uses 5 ink tanks 3 of which are for single colours and two of which are for different kinds of black ink. The tank responsible for printing black text (fonts) for some reason just won't do its job.
Amongst other people's online posts I found a workaround cheat to print black text (simply change the paper setting to Photo Quality or Double Sided Photo for printing either single or duplex printing).
But this uses up too much ink and is EXTREMELY slow.
I have read of the same issue using a different series of Canon printers - and apparently those Canon laser printers just needed an updated CAPT driver.
Tasks already attempted to no avail:
- cleaning the ink nozzles via the software utility
- print test via software utility demonstrates absent gridline pattern
- taken out print head and cleaned carefully with water then left to dry naturally before replacing
- removed Microsoft Word font folders from user library location then restarted my machine (in a desperate response to some advice given in this community to someone else experiencing the same problem but with a different printer)
- opened FontBook and resolved duplicate fonts and restarted my machine (there were about 5 duplicates)
- tried printing from TextEdit and Preview to see if Apple software was behaving differently to Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat - but still cannot print black text
I've had this printer for about 7 years and although it's a massive machine and doesn't have built-in proper networking, it makes scanning and printing massive documents so easy - well it did before the black text problem began - so I'd love to find a true solution rather than chuck it out and buy a new printer.
I run it from a MacBook 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Version 10.6.8 via USB cable.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.
Simone

  • Printing Problem with CS 6 extended and Canon Pro 9500

My prints are no longer coming out centered. I have the "center" box checked in the CS6 print dialogue box. The prints are not centered left to right or top to bottom.
This seems to be a problem since I upgraded to CS 6 extended and or newest print driver for my Canon Pro 9500.
I believe that since I did one or both of these changes there is a border (consitst of slanted hash marks around the perimiter of the print dialogue picture) in the preview of the print.
The border segments left and right are not equal and are very uneven in width. The top and bottom borders are closer but still not even in width.
Can anyone help me with this issue?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

  • Printing problems with new Macbook Pro and Canon I9900

I would like to know why my printed output on the Canon I9900 is showing up much darker than the image shown on the screen. I have installed the latest driver from Canon and am still having this problem. I have tried the different Colorsync profiles listed for the Canon and have not seen any improvement. I am using 4x6 matte paper by Kodak and have selected the correct paper type and settings.
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi there,
I would like to know why my printed output on the
Canon I9900 is showing up much darker than the image
    shown on the screen.
The answer to your question is simple; colour on a monitor is made differently than colour on a printed image. Monitors combine Red, Green and Blue (RGB) in a process called Additive colour while printers use Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (CMYK) with a process known as Subtractive colour. The matching of what you see on the screen to what you get printed is a time consuming (and expensive) process and often subject to a users preference.
For the home user this process is often too complicated. If you accept that what you see is not what you will get then half the battle will be won. However, that doesn't mean that you cannot get good output on your printer. A number of applications give you the ability to adjust your output. You just need to experiment with a number of settings to get a 'workflow' that you prefer. If you can tell me which application you are using to print from I may be able to offer some values that will help.

  • Wireless printing problems with 10.5.4 and Epson printers

Anyone else know about problems with Epson printers such as this no longer functioning wirelessly with bonjour once upgrade to 10.5.4? It appears they are not supporting this with a new driver yet?
At this time, Epson says they have no drivers for 10.5 and this specific printer but wondered if there are more general problems with 10.5.4 and bonjour with Epson or others?
    Thanks

MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.4) Using Epson CX11-NF printer

I have 5 computers-G4 PowerPC, two G4 12" laptops, G5 Mac Pro dual, Macbook Pro--with the older computers all running 10.4.11, the new ones 10.5.4. Until Friday, I was able to print with all of them to an Epson Stylus Photo R200 via Airport Extreme. After installing software for my new G3 iPhone on the G5 Mac Pro the printer connections on all the computers stopped working. I have so far been able to get the G4 Power PC to print, but none of the others. I have tried Bonjour, Gimp-print v.5.0.0-beta 2, cleared all the print drivers and restarted, and everything else I have been able to find on both Epson and Apple sites. The Printer Set Utility described by Epson does not exist in Leopard machines, and doesn't work for the older laptops. As soon as I select one of the printers in the "selected printer in print dialogue box" it grays out. I have set up sharing on the G4Power PC that does print, but it is not accessible--it shows up but is grayed out. There is a diamond next to the printers in the Print dialogue box in applications' menus, but it still doesn't work. It either cannot make the connection, cannot find the printer, or keeps spinning with the message that it is finishing printing (but it hasn't even started.) Again, everything worked fine until the new iPhone was added to the mix. My old iPhone didn't cause any problems. This is really a problem. Any suggestions welcome.

  • Network Printing Problems with Windows 8.1 and HP 8600 Officejet Pro

I can not print or scan from my Dell 2720 after the system has gone to sleep.  My printer shows as connected to my network.  Most time I have to completely restart my PC to get it to work but even that doesn't correct the issue most time.  I have removed and reinstalled the printer at least a dozen times and updated the drivers several times.  Also another oddity - my router is a dual-band (2.4 & 5 GHz) and my printer only connects to the 2.4 GHz connection which I understand is normal but any device attempting to print must be connect to the 5GHz band or nothing will print.  So essentially I have two problems.  Any suggestions?

    Hi @mhmost,
I would be happy to help you print to your 8600. Running the Print and Scan Doctor might help. The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free utility (tool) that helps to quickly resolve common printing, scanning and connectivity issues including but not limited to:
    Connectivity:
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test: Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check: Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager: Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online: Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue: Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match: Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts: Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues: Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings: Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print: Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests: Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
Source:Try the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows
Click here to download and run the Print and Scan Doctor> >>>>> www.hp.com/go/tools
If that does not resolve the issue, post back and let me know if there are any symbols other than green check marks and what they are next to of course. The wrench is not always easy to spot as the wrench and the check mart are in the green circle.
If you see only green check marks (), the tool did not find any problems.
If you see green wrenches (), the utility identified an issue and corrected it automatically.
If you see yellow exclamation points (), the test failed and required user action, but the step was skipped.
If you see a red X (), follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue.
As for the frequency, you are correct, the printer will not work over the 5.0GHz frequency, only with the 2.GHz.I suggest disabling the 5.0 frequency, and running on only the 2.4.
Thanks, I look forward to hearing back from you.

  • Printing problem with new Intel iMac and Indesign CS3

    Hi there,
this might not be the right place to ask for, but has anybody here experienced printing problems in Indesign CS3 with Tiger?
I just installed the software and tried to print out of Indesign, but nothing. I can see on the panel that data is beeing received but no printing action. And this is just out of the new Indesing CS3.
    Any suggestions?
    Best
    Rolf

Our office is printing fine from ID & PS CS3. This is from Intel & PPC Mac's running 10.4.9.
What is your printer and how is it configured for printing, ie USB or IP.
Also, have a look at the cups error log. You can find this via System Profiler > Software > Logs. This will show which process is failing for the spooled job. You can post it back here for more help.

  • Printing problem with Epson R290 Illustrator and inDesign

I am running CS2 on Leopard and have recently purchased an Epson R290. The first time I used it with Illustrator and InDesign it worked fine but now whenever I print anything it prints a tiny version (about a sixth of the real size) of the design in the top left corner of the page. It does this both with new documents and old ones that used to print ok.

Since I posted the message about this problem I have discovered that it can be worked around by choosing a higher quality print. ie if you choose plain paper when printing from Illustrator or InDesign the printer prints a reduced size image but if you choose Ink jet mat or glossy the print comes out fine. I don't have this problem with Photoshop but that may be that I always print high quality from that application. I don't use Appleworks Draw so don't know whether this solves the problem for that application but iWork documents print ok.

  • Printing Problems with Elements 8.0 and EXIF time data

I've been using Premiere Elements 8.0 in Windows XP Professional for a couple of years with no problems. I shoot mostly in JPEG. I've always imported my images using a card reader (the same one). About a year ago suddenly I ran into printing issues. When I imported my images and tried to print them Elements crashed just at the point where it should begin the actual printing.  By chance I discovered that if I adjusted the time EXIF on the images in Elements by either hours or days, back or forward and adjusted them back to the original time/date the problem disappeared. If I had shot in RAW and edited these images there were no problems with the resultant JPEG.
I noted the discussions about Elements changing the time in the EXIF and checked for this but this hadn't happened. The EXIF in camera and in Elements were the same. I also checked this against the time settigs of the camera and they were the same. I shoot with a Nikon D300.
I backed up my images and did a complete re-format of my computer so that it was back to its ex-factory settings, re-installed Elements, restored my catalog from the backup and the problem still arose. I'm reluctant to upgrade to Elements 10 until I (hopefully) I find out  if (a) anyone else has the same problem; and (b) if anyone who had it has fixed it.
Any ideas would be very welcome.

    Miceal,
I am confused. Do you mean Photoshop Elements? Premiere Elements does not have a Print function. On can Export/Share, but not Print. For Photoshop Elements, you will want the PSE Forum.
    Good luck,

  • Printing problems with HP laserJet 1320 and new Intel iMac

My new Intel iMac won't print to my HP 1320 from Eudora or from web browsers. The applications "quit unexpectedly". From Safari, nothing happens.
I can print PDF documents and Office documents with no problems. The Intel is connected to a router via Airport. The printer is connected to the router via Ethernet. My old G4 iMac prints fine (connected to router via Ethernet) as does my G4 laptop (connected via Airport).

A post from another threat that might help.
    From Payson
    Solution!!!
Just spent 90 minutes with some nice folks in level 1 and level 2 support.
Problem seems to be that I used migration utility to import the soul of my old machine into the new machine. When you do that, you bring along the old print system (PPC vs Intel).
I had upgraded to 10.4.5 after the migration and assumed that it would correct any problem like that, but it had not.
After a great deal of trial and error, the solution was to go to move disk/library/printers to the desktop and restart the system
Then use the the install disk 1 that came with the iMac and use the OPTIONAL INSTALLS package to reinstall the printer drivers.
    Worked like a champ.
Suspect similar problem might happen for any of you with I/O drivers.

  • Mouse problems with v10.7 Lion and VMWare Fusion 3.1.3; reboot of Lion temporarily fixes it

Since installing Lion, my VMWare Fusion 3.1.3 Windows 7 and XP virtual machines have very strange mouse problems.  I thought it might have been caused by 3rd party software on my iMac (Mouse Zoom), because it seemed to work after removing the software, but I have now discovered that it is actually the reboot of OS X v10.7 (and now v10.7.1) that temporarity removes the problem.  However, after a while the problem comes back, requiring another reboot of Lion.
The problem is strange behavior of mouse button clicks inside the virtual machine, e.g. unable to double click on a folder or program in Windows because it jumps back to the higher folder tree, as if I had hit the ESC key.  In addition to my USB and BlueTooth mice, the Mac touchpad also has the problem.  I have confirmed that the problem is probably in how VMWare maps the iMac human interface devices (HIDs) to the virtual mouse inside the VM, because I am able to get correct mouse function by attaching one of my mice directly to the Virtual Machine (there is an edit to the VMX file that enables HID devices).
I have deleted and reinstalled VMWare Fusion 3.1.3 per suggestions on the VMWare support site and/or various forums, but that did not help.

According to: http://roaringapps.com/app:61 Version 3.1.3 has issues with Lion.  There is a 2011 beta that works better.

  • Printing Problem with HP LaserJet 1022 and OS 10.4

I am having a problem printing one page of a document on my HP LaserJet 1022 with OS 10.4. All other documents seem to be printing fine, but when I try to print one particular page of a 90 page WORD doc, that page consistently comes out with a big black streak across it and it does something to the printer because all the lights start flashing.
I have powered off, unplugged, reset the printer subsystem, reinstalled the printer driver, and even tried to print on my laptop, and the same thing keeps happening. The document printed for me fine a few weeks ago.
Any suggestions on a work-around for this or a permanent solution? I really need to print this page on my printer ASAP. Thank you.

The page looks perfect in preview and as a PDF. I can't print from the PDF, however, because it shrinks the text and expands the margins ...
Something's fishy. Save as PDF should result a file that looks exactly, precisely, like what you'd get if you printed directly to your printer.
I suspect your Word document has been corrupted by a few bytes of random data that is causing your printer to go nuts. Try cutting that portion out of the document, and pasting it in a new blank document so you can incrementally isolate the damage.
This isn't going to be as easy as it sounds, because when the PostScript printer driver encounters the errant code in the Word document, it's essentially telling the printer "now, go to the top of this page, print a nasty black smudge, and then crash." You might have to cut a whole page before and after the suspected corruption. If you're lucky you might be able to cut the portion then paste it right back as "unformatted text". Try that.

  • Printing problems with 10.4.4 and Freehand

    Hi everyone
I am new to these forums and so please bear with me.
I am running OSX 10.4.4 on a G5 iMac and am having problems printing from FH10. Whenever I go to page setup for print, the page just hangs and then the prog quits.
The problem seems to be across all printers as I have tried it on an HP inkjet (PSC1210) and also a Brother Laser priinter both with the same outcome.
Other progs print fine so it is defo FH specific or related to FH and OSX 10.4.4 upgrade
I have tried remaking prefs and reloading software and even resetting the printing defaults in OSX but the problem still persists.
Does anyone have any experience of this?
I have another copy of FH on a G4 tower running OSX 10.4.1 and that has the same effect. It would appear the problem raised its head about the time of the last OSX upgrade to .4.1.
Many thanks... all ideas gratefully received as at the moment I am pulling my hair out - Oh, I am also posting this on the apple site too. Thx
    Cheers
    Tim

I would suggest you do a clean install of the software from the install dvd's then reapply the 10.4.5 update. Then repair permissions and see what happens. If you have any 3rd party software. Don't initially install it. If you don't have any problems after the clean install, then install one product at a time, testing the system inbetween, this way you should be able to isolate what is causing your problems.. Hopefully the clean install will clear your problems completely.

  • Printing problem with Macbook, Airport Express and new Canon IP4600

Just set up new printer, a Canon ip4600. Adding printer in System Preferences to my flat-screen iMac, I got it working using the Airport Express. But trying the same thing with the Macbook (2.4 GHz Intel), can't get it to print. (Both worked fine with previous Epson printer.) I fear it's a network issue, not sure what to do. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

For each of the AirPort Express Base Stations (AX), did you also change the "iTunes Speaker Name" on the Music tab when using the AirPort Admin Utility? Is this the name you're referring to from iTunes?

  • Booklet printing problems with Reader XI (version 11.0.06)

I created an 80 page 5.5" x 8.5" booklet using Word 2011 running under OSX 10.9.2 on a new 27" iMac.  I then "printed" it to a PDF file.  I then opened the PDF file in Reader XI and attempted to print it out using the "booklet" option as described at
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/print-booklets-acrobat-reader.html#main1_Reader_and_Acro bat_X .
I planned to manually duplex the booklet booklet since my HP Color Laserjet CP1518ni printer does not have automatic duplexing.  The first sign that something was wrong came when I selected "Back side only" from the Booklet Subset pop-up menu.  The numbers in the Sheets from boxes showed "Sheets from 1 to 10" when I obviously needed 20 sheets to print the booklet.  Repeated attempts to manually change it to "Sheets from 1 to 20" failed.  Each time I changed "10" to "20", it would flip back to "10" when I clicked the "Print" button.
I set the Booklet Subset to print only the even pages and checked the "Reverse" box as I have done to successfuly print thousands of manually duplexed pages before.
The printer only printed ten sheets.  The first sheet (what should be the booklet's centerfold) had page 40 on the left side as it should, but 42 on the right (it should have been 41).  The last of the ten sheets printed had page 4 on the left side (instead of the expected  2) and 78 on the right side (instead of the expected  79).  Even though these were obviously messed up, I went on to print the front side of these sheets, selecting "normal".  It printed Page 1 on the right side as expected, but printed page 79 (instead of the correct page 80) on the left.
Folding the ten sheets into a booklet revealed the really bizarre nature of the printing snafu. Page 1 was, as expected, on the front.  Turning the first page open revealed pages 4 and 5.  Turning the second page revealed Pabes 8 (left) and 9 (right).  This pattern continued, printing two pages, then skipping two pages, right into the centerfold pages 40 (left) and 42 (right).  The first page turn after the centerfold revealed pages 43 (left) and 46 (right).  The next revealed 47 (left) and 50 (right).
I am at a complete loss of how to determine where the printing process went afoul.  Printing the PDF file normally (one page per sheet one-sided) resulted in all pages being printed normally.
The really frustrating part of this entire experience is that I could find no place to report this "bug" to Adobe.  If anyone can help me solve this printing dilemma, or put me in touch with someone at Adobe who could help, it would be greatly appreciated.
The booklet is due at the printer's tomorrow and the inability to print a proof is a real pain.  Hope the printer can print this file as a booklet.  I would be happy to send this file (125 Mb) to anyone who might help.

I arrived here looking for a solution!  And while reading your post the penny dropped that I didn't have a serious problem.  I have a booklet of 112 pages and all I needed to do was re-order the pages as printed so that 1 is followed by a sheet with 2 on the under-face but same side and so on.  The pages had printed back to front and needed flipping.  But then I have a duplex printer and maybe that makes a difference.  Is it to do with your manual duplexing and the order that the second pass is presented to the printer.  As my duplex sheets effectively needed flipping over each one I'm wondering if you can solve your problem with a little experimentation and re-ordering before your second pass.

You are correct that deleting the AppleWorks preferences can fix some printing problems. I'm surprised that in finding that information you didn't come across a post with the specific information or a tip to my user tip, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly, that explains which preference files ot delete.
Make sure you have the newest printer driver for each printer. Also, use Disk Utility to repair permissions after any system update or upgrade.
