Help saving red-eye edits

We had some prom pictures taken with an iPhone 4 that showed up in iPhoto with flashlight eyes.  I managed to repiair the flashligth eyes with the Red-Eye tool and clicked the "Done" button -  that is part of the new iPhoto with Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  That is the good news.  The bad news and purpose of this posting is I used the button on the lower right to share the file via email and the picture iPhoto placed in Mai was the unedited version. Either the "Done" button is not saving the change in 10.8.2 or  I am dooing something wrong
How do you save red-eye edits so the file can be shared?
Ps: My workaround for this suspected iPhoto defect is to disply the edited file in Red-Eye editor and user copy/paste to get it to Mail

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you're able to save red eye edits in the test library your current library is the culprit.  In that case  make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Red eye editing problem

Hi all, I am new here and this has probably been asked and answered but I have not been able to find the answer yet, so please don't slam me to hard for asking for help. The problem I am having is with photos that have red eye in the original. I can edit the red eyes out and the photos look fine on my new imac but when I e-mail to friends they can't believe that the photos I send them have big black eyes. I am guessing it is something to do with the red eye editing. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to use a different program for red eye edits on photos that I send to others, particularly Windows users?
Thanks so much in advance for any help.

    turtle21:
Log into another account on your MBP and see if the problem persists when using iPhoto there. If it does then it's system wide. If the problem is gone then you've narrowed it down to your account.
If it's system wide the 10.4.0 COMBO updater that TD suggested would be the first thing to try. Next to that would be as reinstall of iPhoto. If or when you do try a reinstall of iPhoto you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. The reapply the updaters in the following order: 6.0.4, 6.0.5 and 6.0.6. The last two require the previous version to run.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Red-eye edit

Every time the red-eye edit is used, the resulting eyes are blue. Not all of my subjects have blue eyes. I can't find any preference or reference that would help with this.
Can iPhoto be set to do brown or green eyes?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Strange red eye editing result on iPhone 4s

I experienced a strange result while using the red eye removal function on my iPhone 4s. I clicked on the red eye removal button, clicked on my friend's eye in the photo and then it seems that an image was posted over her eye. I saved the edits then zoomed in to examine the image. I have posted the image for others to review. The image looks like 3 cartoon penguins. Can anyone explain this or experienced this?

Try a reset first. Press and hold the home and sleep button for at least 10sec until the Apple logo comes back again, ignoring the "slide to turn off" button. You will not lose data by resetting.
If this does not solve the problem, set it up as new device:

  • Red-eye editing trouble

I recently bought my mother a 20" G5 hoping that it would be more reliable than her old laptop. Most things went well except for iphoto.
As soon as the G5 was online i updated the software ilife, os etc (2weeks ago).
I saved all her photos from an old XP laptop onto and external harddrive.
I then imported from the harddrive by dragging straight into iPhoto. The pics went across fine. BUT
Whenever she tries to adjust red-eye, the editing image changes, the system saves on clicking on done, the thumbnail changes and then when you reopen the file the redeye has returned.
When i imported the same files in the same way on my slightly older imac G5 the red-eye changes without trouble.
Her files are not locked or read only.
    Any ideas...

No. The only control over the red eye correction in iPhoto 08 is the size of the spot used. That would be a good feature request to make at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

We have rebuilt the library with iPhoto Library Manager but are still having it crash when using the Red Eye function in Editing.

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists.

    Stephanie,
    Welcome to the Apple Discuccions.
The first and easiest fix to try is to delete the iPhoto preference file. Close iPhoto. In the Finder, look inside Home/Library/Preferences. Find a file named com.apple.iPhoto.plist and drag it to the Trash. Launch iPhoto. It will create a new pref file, and your preferences will be reset to their defaults. Change them back to your liking. Try to edit a photo and see if it sticks now. If not, look to see if the file is locked.
Photos, Get Info brings up the iPhoto info. You need the Finder's Info. Right-click on the photo's thumbnail from within iPhoto and select "Show File" from the pop-up menu. A Finder window should then open up with the photo already selected. Type Command-I (or click the "More Info..." button below the thumbnail in column view) to bring up the Finder's info about that file.
The top section of the info window is called General. The last thing in that section is a little box by the word Locked. If there's an x in the box, click to remove it. You can also look at the bottom of the Info box, at the section called Ownership & Permissions. Next to "You can" it should say "Read & Write." Open the Details section below that to see who has Ownership of the file.

  • Help with red eye

I can't believe I can't get my red eye tool to work. The easiest tool in the program.
When I click on the red eye, I can't get the pupil slider or the darken slider to move to the right.
Essentially the red eye removal tool doesn't work for me.
    Help please.

It is well explained in some of the other Red Eye threads nearby.

  • Red-eye Edits are not Adequate

I have some time on my hands right now so I thought I would start to go through my 13,000 photos and start to group and edit my libraries. I think the last time I did this was with iphoto 4ish.
But I am finding that the red eye fix is not adequate for this purpose. If the shot is relatively close and the eyes are burning red then the auto red eye works. If this is not the case then going to manual and using zoom does an ok but not good job on 80% of those cases. But many photos are just not fixable. I would get about 5-10% that are not fixable. I seem to remember that the earlier red eye worked much better.
Are there work arounds to this problem?

Try selecting the eye and applying a Hue/Saturation adjustment. This can be done via Enhance > Adjust Color > Hue/Saturation or by adding a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. In the H/S dialog box select in the pull-down list the appropriate color you want to remove, and move the Saturation slider left.

  • Red eye correction not saving, Red eye correction not saving

I open iphoto and try to auto-fix red eye in one picture but it's not an option. So I manually fix it but once I hit "done" the red eye correction does not save. I have iphoto'11.

I hit "done" the red eye correction does not save.
Perhaps your library is corrupted. Try to repair your iPhoto library.
Launch iPhoto with the key combination ⌥⌘ held down and try the first aid options "repair permissions" and "repair database", if necessary also "rebuild database". Before you do any repairing, make sure that the backup of your iPhoto library is up to date.

  • Need help saving a Digital Editions pdf to my dropbox

Can you please help me save an Adobe Digital Editions pdf to my dropbox?  I just purchased an ebook for school, and I feel like it was a total waste of money, because I can't open it in my "iAnnotate pdf" viewer, which is where I save all of my ebooks.
If I can just get it into my dropbox folder as a pdf or something, then I can open it on my iPad.
    Please help.

If it is a DRM .pdf you will need appropriate app.  As far as I know the "iAnnotate pdf" viewer does not support Adobe DRM.
Install Bluefire on the iPad and register it with the same Adobe ID as Your Digital Editions.
Then when you copy Digital Editions books to your Dropbox and they arrive on the iPad,
you can tell Dropbox to open them in Bluefire
(I seem to remember there will be a dropdown menu in top right of Ddropbox when you select the file with options on how to open it)

  • Red eye issues

I was wondering if someone with more experience cam help me. I have a picture in iphoto that needs major red eye editing. When I proceede to remove the redeye and then save my work, I proceede to open the picture again and it is only partially corrected. It is as if it did not stick.
I anyone can offer some help I would be very appreciative
    Marc

There's a trick that may help you here. You can change the red-eye tool into a circle that you can resize and place over the eye in your photo to tell iPhoto exactly where to remove the red. I've found it helpful in cases where the photo has lots of red and iPhoto would put splotches in strange places, no matter how well I clicked on the eye.
The following is a quote from Old Toad:
There are a lot of "undocumented" or "very hard to find" gems for getting more out of iPhoto. I've gleamed most of them from the forums. One of the most useful is how to change the size of the red eye tool and the size and intensity of the retough tool. Another poster found it somehow and shared it. It's :
How to Change the Size of the Retouch and Red-Eye Removal Tool
    Type Caps lockControl9
    Undo caps lock
Click on the Retouch or Red-Eye Removal tool
The tab key will toggle between cursor types, a cross or a circle
The "[" and "]" keys decrease or increase the size accordingly.
NOTE: Using the "{" "}" keys will will change the value next to the circle and that represents the degree of change or intensity that the tool imparts on each pass.
I never would have found it on my own. That's why these forums are so valuable - sharing the tips with others.

  • IOS 8 won't save red eye corrections

I have iphone 6 and it won't save red eye edits to photos. I make edits, and they show as done. Then click on "done" and the photo reverts back to original. I tried posting to facebook and emailing, and in both cases the original photo is used not the edited one. Very frustrating, to say the least!
    Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
This could be a file permissions issue. Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:

  • Automatic Red Eye doesn't work

I'm on Mac OS 10.6.8 and iPhoto 7.1.5.  Why doesn't the automatic red-eye edit work anymore?

    John,
This face is facing about 45o to one side, but there is plenty of eye and red to read.
And, you just reminded me that my question was only half answered.
If I do get one eye working, by boxing the entire eye or more, then how do I do the 2nd eye?
The directions say to "click the selection". Does that mean to highlight the box around the first eye and then box the 2nd eye to get the exact same size and darkness settings?
After boxing the first eye and getting some result (before all these messages) I was -not- able to draw a box around the 2nd eye at all. The box disappeared and the size and darkness sliders were transparent. I could re-highlight the first box to a white border, but nothing worked with the 2nd eye -until- I had quit LR and returned later to do more work.

  • When I edit a photo and remove red-eye, iphoto 6.0.4 resizes image

    Hi - I am using iPhoto 6.0.4
When I edit a photo to remove the red eye, the image get's resized to, and saved as, a tiny thumbnail on a black background. I then can't recover the image to original size.
    Can anyone help?

    ian
Check the bottom right hand corner of the window, see the slider there? Move it to the right does that help?
If not, right click on the pic and choose 'Show File', what folder does this take you to?
