Help scanning photos in Photoshop PSE with OS X Lion

I just purchased Photoshop PSE for my new Mac with OS X Lion operating system, thinking it would allow me to scan in photos......but I cannot figure out how to accomplish this. Some things I read on line suggested I needed a Twain plug in, but the App store has no such thing. I"m at a loss. And I just paid $80 for this Photoshop package which I apparently cannot use.
How do I get my HP Officejet 6310 All in One to send photos into Photoshop?

No "show package contents."
I've clicked right, clicked left, clicked control right and control left on the application on the dashboard, with it wide open on my screen and within the applications window….to no avail.
I've been monkeying with this for 3 hours now. I think I need to go to sleep and start fresh in the morning. It's supremely frustrating because my father is dying, and I've been asked to scan in a bunch of photos before we leave to go to his bedside/funeral….so I'm under the gun time-wise and under the gun emotionally. I just need to get my scanner to put photos over to my computer, and I thought I'd be able to do that with the $80 Photoshop. Guess I should have researched it better before buying. I do appreciate your help, though. I'm very impressed Adobe would have someone monitoring the message boards….

[OT] Need Help Tweaking Photos in Photoshop

Although I know Photoshop fairly well, I am a novice in this general area of tweaking photos ... and could use some help.
I have some inferior photos that I would like to do my best to fix up in Photoshop CS2. Many of them somehow turned out quite faded ... I am not sure why.
I have posted one of these photos as an example on the Web. I would be interested in finding out the best quick way to tweak these pictures and make them more presentable. Feel free to just take a look or, if you would like, download the photo into Photoshop and let me know the best way to proceed.

- I have fooled with :
Image - adjustments - levels ... and moved the left and right arrows to the edge of the data areas and that seems to help ... however I'm not sure what to do with the Middle arrow - etc...
- Also - I fooled around with the exposure adjustment and also the shadow/highlight adjustment ... however from my limited knowledge - they all sort of seem to do the same thing - and I'm not sure which method or combination of techniques is best.
Q: Can someone help give me some suggestions as to how to proceed?

I find that using the Levels control (Command-L) is a little more intuitive than the Curves. I would seem to have problems with dragging the right direction but that's my issue. The Levels has an auto button that will get you very close to what mebs produced. You can then move the sliders to fine tune it.
Both ways will clean up the photo. It's just which way you're more comfortable with. Good luck.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

When trying to get a scanned photo, funny image (flower) with a "i" letter in it, but no image?

When i try to get a scanned photo
from a folder, I get a funny image "flower petal" maybe, with a "i" letter, but no image. No errors are reported, no image is brought into organizer, just that weird image. I am scanning at 1200dpi, or 800dpi. Any idea what this means?

Are you trying to add songs to a smart playlist? Does the playlist have a gear icon next to it instead of a music note?

VBA code to import scanned images into Photoshop CS2 with TWAIN

Hi,
I have to develop a solution that automates the scanning of an image using the TWAIN driver interface. Once scanned, the image appears as a new document in Photoshop where it will be further processed using VBScript scripts.
The solution so far :
Using the freeware 'EZTW32.dll' (copied into C:\WINDOWS\System\), I am able to open the TWAIN scan dialogue on screen, using the function 'TWAIN_AcquireToClipboard(Me.Hwnd, nPixTypes) from the 'EZTW32' dll.
Once the image is scanned, the TWAIN driver is automatically closed, leaving the scanned image on the Windows clipboard.
I then launch Photoshop CS2 using a shell code :
(It is important that Photoshop runs minimized)

When Photoshop is running, then a new document is created and the scanned image is pasted into the document from the Windows clipboard...

OK, this works up to a point. The newly scanned image appears automatically in Photoshop.
The big problem is that when the user makes a change in resolution or draws a selection box in the TWAIN dialog, this data is not recovered from TWAIN, so the image size parameters in the new document cannot be set.
A beter solution would be to write code that emulates the menu commands in Photoshop CS2:
File -> Import -> [Current Scanner]
that launches the TWAIN driver for the current scanner (the code must close TWAIN immediately after scanning). In this case, the resolution and image selection parameters are also imported into the new document.
I am currently refering to the Photoshop CS2 SDK. Do I need to request the Advanced SDK ?
Once beyond this point, then I think I can continue the image processing routines using VBScript as per the SDK.
Any help or other pointers to the TWAIN problem would be VERY APPRECIATED !

I have now fully resolved the TWAIN problem. It works perfectly and is very robust. I am now continuing with the batch image processing for the newly scanned images using the Photoshop CS2 SDK scripting documents, that I find very detailed, well written, and VERY helpful :)

Scanned photos from photoshop won't import to iphoto

I rescanned some photos, the firsts were fuzzy, through photoshop. I saved as a jpeg file to a file on my computer but it won't let me import those to iphoto. I thought first it was because I saved them under the same file name, so opened photoshop, found the photos and saved under a new name. Still cannot import. Then I thought it may be due to the pictures already existing on iphoto, so deleted those, still with no luck.
Please help.

Not so: iPhoto can work with any format supported by QuickTime. From the iPhoto help:
iPhoto: About Compatible File Types
This document discusses which image file types are compatible with iPhoto.
Importing to iPhoto
iPhoto can import photos saved in any format recognized by QuickTime, including:
BMP
GIF
JPEG/JFIF
MacPaint
PICT
PNG
Photoshop (with layers)\

FlashPix
TIFF
Files used by iPhoto
Any edited or rotated GIF images are saved in JPEG (.jpg) format. Any other file type, or unedited GIFs, retain their original file type.

i installed the CC trial so i can do my photos quickly, however after opening it and clicking on continue trial it then crashed the internet and my software, told me to uninstall then reinstall product but as i am under cloud it says its all up to date and im not sure where to go from here, if anyone can direct me to a link i can download or purchase ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS 5.1 which is my fav version i will be most happy

What version of photoshop works with Mac Mountain Lion?

I have an older Mac. Upgraded to Mountain Lion. Installed CS3. All works fine but for photoshop. Is there a fix? Or is there a version of photoshop that will work with ML that I can purchase?

Help download photos on an old cd, made before Lion and older version of iPhoto

I have a MacBook Pro and I was trying to add some old photos from a CD that I had burned several years ago. I now have Lion, which was not what I had on my computer when cd's were burned. Also I used a different version of IPhoto.
What do I have to do to be able to load these old cd's onto my computer......Thanks

This should work:
1 - open iPhoto.
2 - insert the disk into the optical drive.
3 - look for the disk's icon at the top of the Shared section in the left hand pane.
Then you can drag individual photos, or albums or events from the disk onto the Library icon at the top to copy them into your working library.

Well, all that is beautiful Photoshop CC in 2014 but it is 64 bit, maybe this is a smart idiot who introduced the implementation and conduct of training as we scan photos without Photoshop in 32 bit?

Scanning seems to work for me in 64 bit Photoshop...
Perhaps something has been lost in translation, but who are you referring to as an "idiot"?

jpg does not support Layers.
Just to make sure, what exactly do you mean by "stacking photos" and what do you want to achieve thereby?

Help with scanned photo in layers

I am using Elements 9 trial, and my questions involves scanned photos. I understand that the layers do not show in a scanned photo, and so I would like to know if there is a way to save the photos in Elements 9 so the layers can show. What I want to do is remove all text from a magazine cover, leaving the person on the photo so I'll end up with a portrait with only the person's likeness. Can this be done? I am new to all this and would really appreciate some help. Thanks ...

You can try the following lines in PSE6:
- After you have splitted all the scanned images, save all the images
- now go to each image and select the part of the image that you want in the final image. You can use any of the available selection tools
- now after selecting the part of the image, right click on the selected part and choose Layer via copy option
- as soon as you will select this option a new layer would be created in the layers pane that you can find at right hand side. If the layers pane is not visible, you can select Window->Layers option to make it visible.
- The new layer created in the layers pane would contain only that part of the image that you have selected.
- Now select that layer in the layers pane and right click on it
- You will get an option Duplicate Layer. Select it.
- You will see a new dialog box.
- Now give it a new name.
- In the drop down, select the blank document that you have just created above. By default its name should be Untitled-1
- Now Press OK button.
- Go to the blank document that you have created. There you will find the new layer pasted that you have selected in the scanned image.
- You can also adjust the size and the position of the new layer of image on the blank document (which is not blank at this point of time)
- Now repeat the above steps for all the scanned images.

Auto-Cropping gang-scanned photos! HELP

I need help figuring out how to correctly divide scanned photos automaticly. Photoshop Elements 10 had a preset to do this but everytime we go to use it, it crops them wrong. This is the sole reason we purchased Photoshop Elements 10. It's cropping right down the center of the photos. Can someone please help, we've been working on this for days! Thanks

Try putting the photos more crooked on the scanner bed, and if they're very faded and pale, try putting a contrasting background behind them before you scan them. Also try a different arrangement. Something is preventing PSE from seing the edges properly.
Incidentally, many scanner drivers have the ability to do this these days, sometimes better than PSE can. If you strike out again with PSE, see if the scanner can do it for you.

No longer able to scan photos from my PS3650 (Pacific Image) using PSE 10.0.

Configuration:
PC: Dell Inspiron 15R (new)
Photo Scanner: Pacific Image PS3650
OS: Windows 8.1
Photo SW: Photoshop Elements 10.0, PSE10.0
Scanner SW: Cyberview X5, CV-X5 (an upgrade to the original Cyberview X)
Beverage: Don Julio 1942 Tequila.
The error I get is:
"Cyberview X-MS
The software for this device can not be launched. The device is not connected or is busy."
It is neither. I am able to operate the scanner using the CV-X5 software directly but not through the PSE10.0 application. Is this a TWAIN or WIA issue?
I have loaded and reloaded both PSE10.0 and CV-X5 multiple times in accordance with the scanner user manual. I have also attempted to use the original CV-X software with similar results.
It may be worth noting that this setup using XP and CV-X used to work on my old PC. However, that configuration is no longer available and I would like to be able to use my updated PC with my existing scanning system.

You assume too much. I am not mucking around with the iPhoto Library.
Here is an example of my problem:
Open Address Book
Select a Contact
Click Edit
Double Click the Photo icon
A dialog appears for me to "Choose" a photo
Click Choose...
Another dialog appears for me to browse to the photo that I would like to attach to that conract
I select my username under "Favorites", then expand the "Pictures" folder
When I click on iPhoto Library, I am no longer able to expand it and presented with the photos, events, faces, albums within it, but only get an icon for the iPhoto Library instead.
This is part of the way a Mac works, and is now broken. It exhibits this in Address Book and any other program, and it was working fine until I installed PSE 10.
