Help scanning technical documents to pdf

Hi,
Newbie using Acrobat 9 standard (updated to 9.1) with new Fujitsu S1500 document scanner.
I need to scan to pdf a number of technical documents -- no color, these are white background (or, at least, should be white -- some are old and a bit discolored), mostly text and some grayscale illustrations/images and electronic schematics.
Been playing with various options -- scanning resolutions, B&W vs Grayscale, and "Optimize Scanned PDFs" (in Acrobat 9.1) for several hours, and not making much progress.  The issue is that the scanned documents do not print out as good as the originals.
I am hoping that some Acrobat pro's familiar with document scanning can provide some advice.
My goals:
1) PDF needs to print out as close to original as possible
2) File size optimized for small size as much as possible, as some of the documents will be 100-pages and may need to be emailed.
3) If possible, is there a way to manually clean-up the scans in Acrobat?  For example, removing the occasionally spot / mark / staple-hole that shows up in the scan.  The PDF Optimizer settings, even agressive, do  not seem to remove these marks.  Since the background of all of these documents is white, a simple way to "clear" the spots to a white backgound would be perfect.
Any suggestions or best way to approach this project will be appreciated.  Thanks.

100 pages of graphics is going to most likely be too large to e-mail. You would have to post them on the web for someone to grab. Sometimes grayscale seems to work better for me, but I don't do enough to know why. B&W is what I generally what I want (and it sounds like what you want), but there is typically a problem with the quality when I do it. You need to probably play with the resolution and such to get reasonable performance. I would suggest 300 dpi. After you save the file, make a copy and try OCR on it. Once the OCR is complete, do a Save as to remove the old stuff. You may then want to go back and view the suspects, correcting as you go. It may be that Acrobat also has already converted some things wrong. You will have to go back and check. Then do one more Save As.
You might then want to save the document as a DOC file or related format. If you have equations, they will probably have to either be retyped or clipboarded from the PDF as a graphic. The OCR would hopefully give you the smallest file size. You can also try using Reduce File Size or the PDF Optimizer to reduce the file size and delete junk that is not needed.

    Hi Steve
There is a known issue with Acrobat 11 and it is specific to network/shared scanners and Mac OS 10.9. We have logged a bug in our database and we are working with Apple to resolve this issue. The workaround would be to connect the scanner via USB.

  • How can I scan a document to PDF in Windows 7 Professional

I have a Canon MX892 which I previously used with Windows XP. I was able to scan documents to PDF very easily using the Canon Solutions Menu EX.  I am now using Windows 7 Pro 64. I downloaded the associated version of Canon Solutions Menu EX, but it is completely different from the Windows XP with far less functionality.  Is there some way to scan documents to PDF with Windows 7 Pro?

    Hi daberg,
There is a program called MP Navigator that comes with the printer that can assist you with scanning a document in as a PDF file.  Once you are in the MP Navigator program, please follow these steps to scan and save a document in PDF format:
     1.  When MP Navigator opens, click on the ONE-CLICK option at the top of the window.
     2.  Click on the SAVE AS PDF FILE button.
     3.  Place the document you want to scan on the Platen, then select your Document Type (either Color or Black and White Photo or Document), Size, and Resolution.
     4.  In the FILENAME section, the default name for the file will be IMG; you can change this to something else if you would like by highlighting the IMG and then typing over it.
     5.  In the SAVE IN section, you will see the folder path and location that the file will be saved to when you scan it; if you would like to change the location, please click on the SPECIFY button and select the location where you would like the file saved to.
     6.  Below the SAVE IN section, there is a checkbox titled SAVE TO A SUBFOLDER WITH THE CURRENT DATE.  If you leave this checkbox checked, then whatever folder location you select will have a folder with the current date of the scan placed in it, and inside of the currently dated folder will be the file that you scanned.  If you do not want to have the program create the subfolder, please uncheck that box.
     7.  Click the green SCAN button.  Scanning starts.  When scanning is completed, the file will be saved in the location you specified.
     8.  You can then close out of the MP Navigator program and go to the location where you specified the file to save.  You should find the PDF file in that location.
    Hope this helps!

  • Officejet 7610 wide format: can't scan legal documents to pdf

I am having a problem scanning legal documents from the ADF and/or off the glass.
only cropped letter size gets created.
I believe I am using newest model with the newest drivers.
Just purchased and installed drivers from the internet.
I need work-a-round or other fix.

There is no setting in the Front Panel to set to Legal. All paper size settings need to be done on the SW. I believe you have installed the overall SW.
Select HP Office 7610 series icon from pc desktop. Otherwise Click > Program > HP > HP Officejet 7610 series to open HP Printer Assistant.
    1. Select Set Preferences.
    2. Select Paper/Quality.
    3. Change Paper Size to Legal.
    4. Click OK to save setting.
Now by default the scan target will be scanned to Legal size. Take note by default if there is A4 or Letter siz paper and when setting is at legal, then these paper sizes will be scanned to legal sizes.
Alternatively if you do not want to set the default size to legal, then you can go to HP Printer Assistant. Select "Scan a document or Photo". Select the appropriate settings and do a SW scan.

  • Scanning/Printing Documents to PDF using Image Capture

I am trying to scan a document (8.5 x 11) using image capture and then email it so that the recipient can read and print out an identical copy.  Even though I can successfully scan the document as a PDF using Image Capture, the document visually appears MUCH larger when the recipient receives and tries to print it.  The resulting printed copy shows only a fraction of the total text, but blown up.
I have Image Capture configured as follows:
    Scan Mode:  Flat Bed
    Document:  Text
    Bit Depth:  1
    Resolution:  300
    Source Size:  8.50 x 11.00
    Scaling:  100%
    New Size:  8.50 x 11.00 ;
    Format:  PDF
When I view a document scanned using the above settings in Preview, it looks fine.  The only problem is when I view it in Print Preview and/or print it.  Again, it is "blown up".  Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong and how to fix it???  Thanks.

Try with a resolution of 75 or 150.
Also when printing there are options to "fit to 1 page". The recipient should do that.

  • I get prompted to select a scanner and a scan profile/preset each time I try to scan a document to PDF using Adobe Acrobat Pro.

    Hello,
I have a fujitsu scanner (fi-6140) connected to my computer and have the "Scan" button on the scanner associated with Adobe Acrobat.  And so when I press the "Scan" button on the scanner to scan a document, it launches Adobe Acrobat Pro automatically.   Then I get prompted to select a scanner/device and a scan profile.  It seems to remember the last-used scanner/device, however; it still prompts me each time to confirm the scanner/device selected and select a scan profile to use.  Is there a way to save both the scanner & scan profile information and so when I click the "Scan" button, it doesn't prompt me to select but starts scanning using the last-used settings automatically?
    Thank you.

    Hi SenaW,
I would be happy to help you. I think I see what the problem is. You have an ExportPDF subscription, which allows you to convert PDF files TO Word format. To convert a Word doc to PDF, you need either Adobe PDF Pack or Acrobat.

  • Hey, q about scanning documents to pdf.

    Hello all
I want to scan documents to pdf, everday we have about 400 documents shipping documents from our waerchouse and we want to archivizate them in pdf. We need a programm who can scan this documents to pdf and write them in seperate files, on the documents are barcodes, the barcodes could be used to seperate the document. PLZ help and sry for me English.

If you have a scanner, it should come with its own scanning software.  Alternatively you can download it from the manufacturer's website.
You can also use Adobe Acrobat to scan documents, which allows you to do text recognition (OCR).  However, I have found that the original scanning software allows you much more functions than Acrobat does.

  • Saving Scanned Documents as PDF's

I have a new HP Officejet L7590 All in one printer. My last
HP 6210 had an option in the "Scan To" window under the "File

How do I scan multiple documents to a single pdf from the ADF on my MX922?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Riceburner1,
Since you have had difficulty scanning using My Image Garden, you can scan using the IJ Scan Utility program that also comes with the printer.  To do this, please follow these steps:
    1. Place the documents in the ADF or on the platen glass of the printer.
    2. Start the IJ Scan Utility.
        For Windows 8.1:
        1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key.
        2. Start typing IJ SCAN UTILITY. The search window opens as you type. Once the IJ SCAN UTILITY is displayed, please select and open it, then continue with Step 3 below.
        For Windows XP:
        1. Go to your START MENU, then select ALL PROGRAMS, then CANON UTILITIES, then the IJ SCAN UTILITY program.
        2. In the Canon IJ Scan Utility window that opens, click SETTINGS.... in the bottom right of the window. The Settings dialog box appears. Please continue with Step 3 below.
    3. In the Canon IJ Scan Utility window that opens, click SETTINGS.... in the bottom right of the window. The Settings dialog box appears.
    4. Click the DOCUMENT SCAN option on the left pane of the window. In the Select Source field of the Scan Options section, select DOCUMENT (ADF/PLATEN) to scan items placed directly on the platen glass, DOCUMENT (ADF SIMPLEX) to perform single-sided scanning from the ADF, or DOCUMENT (ADF DUPLEX) to perform double-sided scanning using the ADF. You can then set the item size, resolution, etc. in the Scan Options section as desired.
    5. In the SAVE SETTINGS section of the window, you will select the save format and location of the document you are about to scan.
a.) In the FILE NAME field, specify the name you would like to give the file. By default the filename will begin with IMG; you can remove IMG and change it to whatever you would like to name the file.  Please note that the filename that you give the document here will be the default filename for all items scanned until you change the file name.  If you leave the file name the same in the field, the scanned item will have a sequential number appended to the end of whatever name you give it.
b.) In the DATA FORMAT field, use the drop-down arrow to select the desired option. If you are scanning a multipage document, select the PDF (Multiple Pages) option.
c.) In the SAVE IN field, please navigate to the area where you would like the file to be saved once it is scanned in. By default, the file will be saved in the MY DOCUMENTS folder.
    6.  In the APPLICATION SETTINGS section of the window, please select the DO NOT START ANY APPLICATION option.
    7. Once all settings have been selected, click the OK button at the bottom of the SETTINGS (DOCUMENT SCAN) window. The IJ Scan Utility main screen appears.
    8. Click the DOCUMENT button. Scanning starts. Click the CANCEL button to cancel scanning if needed.   Once the scan is completed, scanned images are saved in the previously selected folder location specified in the SETTINGS... window.
    Hope this helps!
