Help! Serious Ps Problem!
I bought a new PC computer a few weeks ago and installed the full adobe CS4 suite onto it and have been using it on this new computer ever since without any problem. I've used it on the old computer for two years without this problem. Then, last night I open Ps and I begin working when I get a box pop up that tells me that "Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped working.... A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." then I can choose one button only, "Close Program" after which the programs closes. So, I opened it up again and did one or two things before being given the same message and closing again. This repeated about 10 times before I gave up on my project and uninstalled the entire suite and then reinstalled it. That took the rest of my available night last night to do. Now, at 5 am this morning I start working again and right away I get the same message! What in the world is wrong and how do I fix it! I can't get anything done. What's worse is that I have my first design interview today for a possible job and I needed to create a cover for my design portfolio. That's what I was trying to get done before I go to work this morning! Now, I'm having some crazy Ps problem that makes no sense at all and terrifies me of whether I'm going to have the time or the technical wherewithal to fix.
I quick search on the internet has revealed that some people think it's connected to tablet drivers, but I havn't even installed my tablet on this computer yet.
Please help!!!
More likely it's tied to display drivers.
What video card do you have in this computer, and have you visited the web site of the maker of this card to check to see if they have an updated driver you can download and install?

Help - serious internet problems
I have installed Adobe 9 but it seems to be causing me horrendous problems with the internet. I can connect to my chosen home web page but when I try to go to another web page the whole thing just freezes. This has happened several times over the past week and each time I deinstall Adobe 9 the problem rectifies itself. The problem is that when I try to access pdf documents or images, the whole thing wants to upgrade me again so I am going round and round in circles. Can anyone please advise me what is happening here?

It turns out CAN access this forum from Safari browser, but it takes a VERY long time to load.

I still can't access gmail.com from Macs or iPad, but can access it just fine from iPhone (via AT&T, not home network.) Errors: Opera says "Session closed by remote server". Safari on iPad says " server stopped responding". Safari on Macs says "can't open ... because server isn't responding"
MOST urls load fine and super fast. Only a few don't load at all (e.g: gmail.com) via home network. Others load fine on iPad on home network but VERY slow on Macs (e.g. this forum)?! Everything seems to work fine from iPhone using AT&T network.

Serious display problem. Please help!
I'm having a serious display problem all of a sudden. It is not application specific. Various different applications are pixelating, especially wherever I move my cursor and click the mouse. When I grab the entire application with the cursor and move it, the image duplicates into hundreds of images all over my screen. If I shake it around awhile, eventually it goes back to normal. What is going on??!!
Here's some background info: I'm on a 2009 Mac Pro. I still use the old fashioned tube monitors with mini display port to VGA converters, but I've never had a problem up until now. Just before the problem started happening, I tried to open up some .jpg files in Quicktime Pro 7.
I would greatly appreciate any ideas of what the problem could be and how to fix it.Welcome to Apple Discussions!

Serious performance problems on iWeb site
Can anyone help me find the problem with peterlance.com? It looks like author Peter Lance uses iWeb to update his web site. He redesigned it recently (and did not use iWeb for the old design). Anyway, it has serious performance problems on Internet Explorer, which I was hoping you guys could help pinpoint? Is there something simple I can tell him to try to fix the problem? He is launching a new book on Tuesday so he will be getting a lot of traffic, but for now the response time is not very good. Any suggestions?
In particular, each new page seems to hang for about ten seconds and freeze using Internet Explorer 6. Any fixes?
I mean, fixes other than: "Don't use Internet Explorer!"

There are several plain .jpg's and that's good, but you need to convert every .png on the page (or as many .png's as you can) to a .jpg. For example,

Convert that to a jpg, then replace the graphic and text on the iWeb page with this converted jpg (some have has success using Downsize http://www.stuntsoftware.com/Downsize/)
The ones you won't be able to do anything about are the ones that are a part of the blog, but that will be only 5 images instead of the many you have now.

Is covering part of your menu which is why it appears that only the top half is sensitive to rolling over. You'll have to adjust your layout to account for this.
Another area to look at, there are white boxed png's surrounding the amazon book covers at the top.

Another set of .png's you'll have to get rid of. How did those get put on the page?
What you see happening with IE is a java script running to fix IE's problem with png's. The fewer .png's you have, the less of a problem with IE you have. -

I am having some very serious performance problems witgh java web start. I have a swing client that transmits XML/HTTP to and from a server, parses it, etc... I am finding that the XML/HTTP data request
is a factor of 10 to 100X slower, at least, using Java Web Start than without.
Any suggestions would be helpful

I've also observed some overhead when running an application deployed with JAWS compared to running the application from the jar, or in my dev environment.
After searching these forums a bit, I found this buried nugget of info: Try System.setSecurityManager(null) if you are requesting <all-permissions/> already.
Before the workaround, my application was taking 194 seconds for a single analysis run. After this workaround was applied, the same analysis run took only 82 seconds.
So as you can see, there is considerable overhead associated with performing operations through the layers of security (my guess). My particular application does a lot of disk I/O (which is probably something the security manager watches closely).
I stress the 'workaround' aspect of this because I haven't fully investigated the ramifications of using it, but eventually this might turn into a bug submission (because if I'm already requesting all-permissions, why do I still need to do setSecurityManager(null)?).
At any rate, hope this helps!

I have been speaking to Old Toad for the majority of today trying to fix my iPhoto Library as its become corrupt and I cannot get my photos/videos back into iPhoto. After many many suggestions I seem to have created some serious system problems.

It appeared to me that somehow the OP's Picture folder was converted into an iPhoto Library as his screenshot of the PIctures folder looked like the inside of a library.
This statement by the OP make me think it might be more than just an iPhoto issue (the bold text):
I am unable to drag the Picture folder to the desktop, It wont move, and iPhoto (which is still empty) just opens.

its not related to any hardware because last year april i got replacement new phone from apple and i maintained it well...!Probably apps running in the background are causing this, sometimes Mail get's stuck connecting to the mail server, or some social media app like Facebook can also be a reason for prolonged background activity.
Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:

I'm the (mostly) happy owner of an iPhone 3Gs, and an Apple BT headset.
My problem is that I can't stay connected to my headset, on totally random occations, I simply lose connection. Sometimes when the phone rings, sometimes when I open an app. I have no problems connecting and pairing, and even bought the original Apple headset 'cause I figured that my old one ( a Samsung headset ) was causing this problem. But it did not help what-so-ever, same problem persists. I have latest firmware all around (3.1 and latest iTunes and all) I have tried deleting apps that were using BT just in case. Nothing helps, and this problem is making me consider going back to WM, since I, for several years have had no problems with BT overthere...
This is a serious issue for me, since I spend a lot of time in car, and way too often cannot answer using my headset, or simply lose connection with no apparent reason at all. I have tried to contact Apple support, but since I live in Denmark, they tell me that it's my provider doing the support, but for crying out loud, they don't know anything, so no help there

Actually, the Apple headset is the most reliable of the ones that I've got. My Samsung headset is BT 2.0 as a matter of fact, but it loses connection faster than I can push the button...The Apple headset works mostly, and I have found a couple of workarounds to make it a little more reliable ( or so I'd like to think ). I found out that when I just disconnect, either by switching off the headset, or leave it in the car and walk away from the connection, I have all sorts of trouble reconnecting..But, if I switch off the Bluetooth on the phone first, it seems easier to reconnect. And there are times, where it works nicely for hours, but then all of a sudden, again with no apparent reason, it loses connection but atleast, the Apple headset warns me ( gives a bip ) when it loses connection, so I guess I can live with that. What I have a hard living with, is the random disconnection when I'm trying to answer an incoming call, and even sometimes when I make a call. My guess is that this is a radio-stack problem, and it might even be hardware related ( on the iPhone ) So my problem persists 'till Apple works it out...whenever that'll be :oP
In addition to all this, I would like to say that it strikes me how hard it is to get in touch with Apple, IMHO that's just not good enough, considering the price-tag on this phone, the support is like non-existing, what a minus -

OK, so fine - I figure that I'm new to this. The documentation for the URL
class tells me there is another way around this. It says that rather then

I need advise and help with this problem .
First , I have been with Mac for many years ( 14 to be exact ) I do have some knowledge and understanding of Apple product .
At the present time I'm having lots of problems with the router so I was looking in to some info , and come across one web site regarding : port forwarding , IP addresses .
In my frustration , amongst lots of open web pages tutorials and other useless information , I come across innocent looking link and software to installed called Genieo , which suppose to help with any router .
Software ask for permission to install , and about 30 % in , my instinct was telling me , there is something not right . I stop installation . Delete everything , look for any
trace in Spotlight , Library . Nothing could be find .
Now , every time I open Safari , Firefox or Chrome , it will open in my home page , but when I start looking for something in steed of Google page , there is
''search.genieo.com'' page acting like a Google . I try again to get raid of this but I can not find solution .
With more research , again using genieo.com search eng. there is lots of articles and warnings . From that I learn do not use uninstall software , because doing this will install more things where it come from.
I do have AppleCare support but its to late to phone them , so maybe there some people with knowledge , how to get this of my computer

how do I copy files onto a hard drive (device) from Mac 2 7 pc. I'm able to transfer files from device but cannot transfer files to device. Anyone had same problem or can help solve this problem? Help pls
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you try to copy data to the external drive, what happens? If you don't see any error, the external drive is formatted in NTFS, and OS X can't write in it.
To be able to write on this external drive, you have to use an app like Paragon NTFS. Another solution would be to format the external drive in FAT32 or exFAT with Disk Utility > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html Make sure you copied all the files of the external disk to the internal disk before doing it -
Serious performance problems after updating from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7
I've got a Macbook Pro C2D 15" (late 2006). After updating the system from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 and quicktime to 7.6.2, I experience serious performance problems which I have never seen before:
-From time to time, kernel_task has peaks in activity monitor (consumes a lot of CPU). In that moment, the mouse hangs for a short moment and audio playback is distorted/has drop outs.
-Recording audio consumes a lot of CPU (independent of the audio application).
-Video playback consumes a lot of CPU, regardless if I use VLC or the quicktime player.
Any idea what could be done? Thanks in advance.After a few days of using CoolBook I report that my 1st generation MacBook Air is now reliable and never overheating, regardless of environment conditions.
I must point out that I do believe that it really is something new in 10.5.7 that is causing this problem as my environmental conditions have not changed and even Summer in Dublin still sees temperatures no more than 72F/22C. I am now in Madrid, where the environment is quite different, and I am still having no problem with kernel_task spinning.
I plan on reporting my problem to Apple anyway and being aggressive about the issue as MacLovinRanga did in this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9647353#9647353). Perhaps many/all of those of us having this problem will obtain new MacBook Airs.

Will I need to get a mac external hard drive if I wish to continue to save my documents like this?
If you no longer use a PC you could format this drive for the Mac. However be aware that formatting a drive will erase all the data on it. So you would need someplace to copy the data off this drive to while you did the re-format and then you could copy the data back.
You could get another drive, format it for the Mac and copy the data to it. Then re-format the original drive and use it as a backup drive. Always good to have backups.
Post back with the drive type and size of the current drive, if you are doing backups now and how and if you still need to access this drive from a PC.

I got this message after importing about ten or so H.264 files that I encoded from Adobe media encoder. "adobe encore the software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system. installing the correct decoders for the file you are working with may help correct the problem."
The files we're shot with HD cameras. Edited in Premiere Pro CS3. I installed the update 3.0.1 with still the same error.
I also tried a brand new project and after about ten or so files being imported into a timeline, the system crash. I tried this twice....

Here is the skinny. A window base PC. footage shot with HD sony HD cameras, Project imported to Premiere CS3. Once completed sent file to Adobe media encoder and render them as H.264 widescreen high Quality. Imported them to Adobe Encore CS3. After about ten files or so. I got the error message. Did all the basic trouble shoot like restarting the computer, got latest patch. Even build a new test project with the same problem.
Something else I read in the forums, is the encore will transcoded the project to Mpeg 2 anyway, after looking at my project I realized those few files were indeed untranscoded. So it will be a double compression and I dont want that. So, my new question is, what is H.264 good for ?????????? I was research that Mpeg 2 is a faster render but H.264 is a slower render but better quality.....
what do you think ????

@Everyone; as the previopus topic was closed, I am opening a new one here, partly to reply to some things that was said to me in the previous thread/topic (and I do not like to leave people hanging), but mainly to try and get some help with my systemd config (that I was not able to find help with in the wiki or manpages).
@czubek; eww, that sounds rather similiar to some other operating systems I've heard of (not just, but obviously including, windows)... For me, subjectively, that is not very attractive, as being able to have a single application do a single thing, and then mixing and matching as I personally see fit is a great thing.
@tomegun: I can indeed see your point, but if I made direct quotes on all the things I reply too, my posts would reach biblical proportions.
Mmm-hmm, I do indeed know of "the Arch Way"; however, the system that you expose can be of varying complexity as well, and I found that the system that was presented to me by way of Sysvinit/initscripts was a way simpler system than that presented to me by systemd.
Indeed, and I do like that; I enjoy knowing how my system works and learning more about it; however, the truth is that reading manpages and the wiki isn't always enough. And I use the numbers instead of letters in certain places as a jest, please, do not get offended by that; if you have to, get offended by my opinions.
Ah, I have now scanned the wiki, the manpages, and have already faced problems. While part of me is saddened by this fact (as I was hoping for a smooth transition to systemd), part of me is glad that I can at least prove that everything isn't quite as simple as some people would make it out to be. More on this later in this post, as I do need help with the problems I have faced.
And I wouldn't say that the new and old way are equally trivial, as I immediatley faced problems with "the new way". More on this later.

Oh my... Ignored as a matter of principle? I would say that that is an excellent way to stagnate; by that logic, moviemakers, gamemakers etcetera should ignore any and all criticism they recieve, as the critics are not contributing.... Wouldn't that lead to a complete halt in development? Isn't criticism (so long as it is constructive, obviously) a key component of (media/software) evolution?

@tomegun; I believe you to be wrong; complaining (but not whining) is the first step towards improvement, as I think that I and zb3 has shown.
Further, your last point (where you talk about "deep understanding of Y" and whatnot) is basically saying that only devs and programmers can contribute, so zb3's observation would be correct.
Also, making suggestions is part of constructive criticism; you can do that even if you can't code, e.g. by saying "X works badly because it makes Y crash; couldn't we replace X with something akin to Z?". This is a valid point even if you have no intricate understanding of X, Y or Z, and if it is impossible to replace X for one reason or the other, it's not hard to reply with "Replacing X is impossible because of reason Q", and then see if someone can solve reason Q etcetera.
zb3's example is obviously helping; for one, it would allow people to know taht they can't boot with systemd in certain cases, or that installing/runing systemd can break their system. I would consider that rather important information.
@Everyone; Now then, to see if I can (or rather, if I can get help to) shed some light on some problems I've been having.
My transition to systemd went pretty smooth (besides the fact that I couldn't use 'systemctl' to set anything, and neither duckduckgo nor any posts in the forums could help me (the error I continously got was "Failed to issue method call: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 1") and that there are no manpages/tips on how to configure the files for "localtime" and "adjtime", which would've been good considering some syntax have changed) to about halfway through, to the point where I was supposed to start using systemd for my daemons.
Now then, to the main problem; first, I tried running
"systemctl enable syslog-ng.service"
and got the following message;
"ln -s '/usr/lib/systemd/system/syslog-ng.service' '/etc/systemd/system/syslog.service'
ln -s '/usr/lib/systemd/system/syslog-ng.service' '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/syslog-ng.service'"
Since it doesn't exclusively say that something went wrong (at least as far as I can understand), I pondered the message a bit, but moved on to try and start dbus by issuing
"systemctl enable dbus.service",
to which I got the reply
"The unit files have no [Install] section. They are not meant to be enabled using systemctl."
This I can only assume is an error message of some sort, especially seeing as it says "not meant to be enabled using systemctl", but the wiki rather explicitly states that that is what I am supposed to do.
I dare not move on (or attempt to start other daemons) without further advice, as I fear I might break my system. Any ideas as to how to solve this would be greatly appreciated.tcmdvm wrote:

If you try running sytemtctl enable <whatever>.service and get
"The unit files have no [Install] section. They are not meant to be enabled using systemctl." means there is no <whatever>.service file available to enable.
The dbus.service as far as I know is already enabled when installing systemd and doesn't require any action.
Ah, right, systemd is chatty (I'm of the old skool; if nothing is/goes wrong, a program should keep quiet).

Ah, I see; and well, I was told right here, going from the top, to "Enable Daemons formerly listed in rc.conf [...] For a translation of the daemons from /etc/rc.conf to systemd services, see: List of Daemons and Services.", and, using the list, dbus is mentioned there, as you can see. Since I started from the top, I did not know that you didn't need to enable that service. Perhaps it could be added to the descriptions of the relevant services in the Wiki which ones are autostarted?

Meh, I directly refer to the relevant people, they can easily see their own old posts in the previous thread, etcetera... Actually, what am I supposed to do with "hwclock"? the List of Daemons only says that I shouldn't run that in tandem with ntpd, but I'm not running ntpd, so... How do I get hwclock with systemd?
