Help !!! .. SERIOUS white balance issue, footage is yellow !!

Hello guys,
Im an avid reader of these forums but never actually posted. We shot some motorsport this weekend however something happened in terms of white balance on one of the cameras.
The footage has a VERY yellow cast ... We are still injesting at the moment so i've not tried to fix it as yet however I've attached a couple of pics to show you the difference. Bizarrely both these shots are from the same camera, we aren't sure if the operator did something or just that the camera had a 'moment' however the yellow footage is unfortunately the finals .. and key to the piece we are producing.
Any advice or help would be very appreciated.
Regards
Stephen
Decent shot ..

apply the three way color corrector to a bad shot. double click it in the timeline to open it in the viewer. go to the graphical interface. Next to the wheel on the right is a little eyedropper or whatever-- not in front of my edit system- sorry. Find a piece of what you know to be white in the shot, make sure it is NOT blown out, but properly exposed. Click that with the eyedropper and you should magically get close not exact to the good footage. Whatever you do will be a compromise. Get used to it.

  • Ongoing White Balance issue

In a video I just shot there is a slight shift in exposure in the image - just when my subject moves a couple times. It is shot with a white background and she is wearing black. I think this is a white balance issue. Which filters or fixes are best for this? I have tried a few filters and they mostly do it but you can still see the couple times my subject moves and the light/exposure changes. I realize that I need to film it better, but can it be fixed. Thanks for any insights.

Search for "flicker fixer premiere pro".  I don't use any of them so you will have to see what works best for you.
You can use the Fast Color corrector in PP to change exposure.  You will have to make key frames.  If you're not sure how to use key frames and how to use the Fast Color corrector it's time to open the manual.

  • Bug Fix for White Balance Issue (When ?)

    Dear Apple:
When can users expect a patch for the bug that "crept" into Aperture late in the development cycle that seriously effects the white balance tool?
This bug is obviously a major concern and issue for most professional-level photographers; and, quite frankly, prevents Aperture from being used in a professional capacity with regard to RAW decoding.
    Cheers

    Excuse me, John:
But, quite frankly I don't think you are in any position to tell the users of this form how they should feel. Most users, who happen to be high-end prosumers or professionals such as myself, have paid a great deal of money on a piece of software that was supposed to live up to certain, basic expectations. Unfortunately, that software did not. As such it cannot be used in a professional environment.
Subsequently, an update was provided to address all the concerns that users expressed. Unfortunately, that update created a major issue with regard to the white balance of RAW images. Yet again, this expensive piece of software is nearly useless in a professional environment.
Let me ask you this: "if you were a gardner and paid several hundred dollars for a lawn mower, only to discover that it cut your clients' grass unevenly, would you continue to use it? Would you continue to be patient after taking it into the repair shop only to have it still screw up your lawns? Would you not be on the phone with the repair shop constantly until it was fixed?"
Unfortunately, Aperture is a good idea that has a flawed implementation and that NEEDS to be addressed! So, I will continue to ask Joe and Steve and the others at Apple when will this piece of software actually live up to the expectations set forth by the company that produced it!

  • White Balance Issues

    Hello,
I have noticed this for a couple of weeks now.  The display on my 2012 MacBook Pro (non-retina) will switch white balance for a second and then flip back to the normal colors.  When it does this you can notice a distinct blue-ish tint to the colors on the screen.  The first few times it occurred it lasted for only a second and then would be normal.  But today it has occurred twice now; the first lasted for a few minutes and the second hasn't switched back.  The current  OS of my macbook is Yosemite.
I tried going into the display options under system preferences but all the options still have the blue-ish tint to them.  Any one else have this problem?  I spilled coffee on my mac last week but this was a thing before that happened.  I'm really hoping that it's not a sign of the screen dying.
    Thanks for any help.

This is frustrating me too. Some things I've discovered:
Reprocessing photos tagged with the 1.0 to 1.1 which required reprocessing caused most of the issues. The auto-converted photos would go from 5200K temp, -1 tint or similar to having a wierd tint. However, using a tint around 90 (off the range the tint slider can be adjusted to. Similarly, using the dropper to select a whitepoint results in these out of range tints. However, the tint looked OK, it's just out of the range you can slide it to.
I tried the deletion of the Raw decode plist and that didn't fix things.
Also of note, I have a selection of images with each of my camera's whitepoint settings (a Canon 30d as it happens). If I reprocess each, select the whitepoint brick to enable it and press reset, I get back the whitepoint which was interpretted from the RAW (and hence the cameras whitepoint setting). These also leap from say ~5200K daylight -1 tint (if I recall correctly) to having offscale tints. This suggests there's a new range at play for RAW 3?
Incredibly frustrating. If anyone has any reasonable fixes, I'd love to hear about them, or preferably could we have an update from Apple which resolves the issue.
I understand that reprocessing can cause small shifts, but my photos which have not been heavily adjusted look totally wrong when reprocessed. For now I will not be reprocessing anything until there's a fix.
Also of note, it looks like way back I locked my default raw processor to 1.0 or 1.1. That may have caused issues. I have since reset the camera defaults to the reset RAW processing defaults for 3. I'll try importing some stuff from camera tonight and see what it does.

  • IPhone 4 White Balance Issue

Is anyone having the same issue? Indoor pics with florescent light being way too yellow?

Yes, I had this problem as well on my first iPhone 4. There were also yellow blotches, so I exchanged it and the new one is fine, white balance is much better.

  • White Balance Issue

Aperture is not setting the white balance sliders in the proper place after importing images. The image displays properly, but when I move a slider the WB on the image shifts dramatically. I have to reset the adjustment to the default almost every time.
An example would be the image is at Temp 3683 and Tint is at 15, I adjust Temp and then the tint is way magenta. I hit reset and the Temp goes to what the camera shot it at. Anyone else having Aperture misread the WB from the camera?

    Shortie,
Welcome to the user-supported Aperture discussion group. You should read the [Terms of Use|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa] when you can.
Does anyone know when Apple are going to fix this?
The likely answer is "yes." However, everyone who posts to this forum is an Aperture user, not an Apple employee. So, the people who know the answer your question are not here.

    4. I have searched about the problem on Google, and found several topics about mobile devices from other brands, with the exact same issue. For some of those devices, the issue had been reduced or resolved with a software update:

  • Help! White balance dropper/loupe disappears!

I was just going through a wedding to do a last run for white balance and color corrections and my white balance loupe appears and disappears in a split second!
Previously, I was making several WB corrections to a specific image, decided I wasn't getting anywhere and wanted to see the (M)aster image. From the master image I clicked on the WB dropped tool and it flipped back to my "version" of the file and now it just disappears every time!

  • Nokia 1020 Flash gives Yellow Tint - White Balance...

I have the new Nokia Lumia 1020.  Unfortunately, every time I take a photo with the flash, it gives a yellow tint; the white balance is WAY off.  I called support and Nokia Support said to swap the phone, which I did at AT&T.  The 2nd phone has the same issue.  I searched online, and several others are having the same problem.
When will a solution for this come out, assuming one will?
    Thanks.

yep suffering from this too and there are quite a few threads popping up on the net about the issue too

these are just the top hits on google and this is without the threads on your wn discussion board on this very website :-/
now i love my 1020 just like i loved my nokia 808 but there is defo something wrong with the settings and jpeg processing on the 1020
on one of the forums i use a users examined the exif data of a yellow tinted image and the shutter speed was really slow and the iso really high , i think this is where the problem lies , on an xenon flash shot why is the phone choosing a very high iso and very slow shutter speed surely this will lead to polloution of the picture from other light sources hence the orange/yellow glow/tint to many pictures taken under ''fake'' lighting
In auto mode even with flash on, shutter speed is always 1/30 and ISO is pretty high (1000 or above). I don't know why these settings are this way with flash in Auto, but that seems to be the reason for the yellow tint.
a user has come up with a fix which is
Try this: force flash on and then either set ISO to 400 or a fixed shutter speed of 1/100 or even faster. I noticed that the flash fires shorter and brighter that way. Surprise: yellow tint is gone.
so as you can see the camera is simply selecting the wrong settings for the scene , why an earth is the camera selecting such a high iso and slow shutter speed for an xenon lit shot , surely thats ridiculous , it seems it to me
nokia please can you look into this asap
according to your response in this thread you have been aware of this for a while now and i know software can be very complex but this is something that needs to be fixed and is causing a lot of people hassle with the ''best camera phone'' the world has seen
i am sure it can be fixed easily via software and i look forwards to an update or resapinse from nokia about the issue

  • White Balance jpg Importing Issue

In Lightroom 1.2 I'm having a white balance issue after importing jpg's from my hard drive into LR. I noticed the issue after I did my jpg selection in Windows XP using the MS Picture Viewer to delete bad jpg's before I import the good jpg's into Lightroom. The white balance was way of balance using the LR "As Shot" WB as compared to MS Picture Viewer and Paint Shop Pro 9. A custom WB of -31 in LR equals the WB of jpg as viewed in the Picture Viewer and Paint Shop Pro 9. All 289 jpgs were affected. I also re-imported the jpg's into other new catalogs with the same results.
I do not have any presets selected for importing. I don't think I made any setting changes, I checked the settings and did not see anything out of the ordinary. I also did a "repair" re-install of Lightroom just in case a module got corrupted. The jpg's were from a Canon 20D. In the past week I was doing a lot of RAW prior to this importing the jpg's. The jpg's were imported into a brand new catalog and the PC was booted up prior to the importing. I never had this problem before with jpg's. Lately I have been getting catalog errors, settings that reset themselves, crops that uncrop themselves and photos that won't remove after I remove them while doing development of Raw photos. I have Lightroom installed on my local "C" Drive and the LR Catalogs are on my local "E" Drive.
    thanks
    Vince

    >Is MS Picture Viewer a colour managed application? I don't know, but don't think so. Lightroom is however which might be the cause of your problems.
Not in XP. In vista it is color managed. From the sound of it, the problem is a bad monitor profile but you might also have a corrupt Lightroom database. You need to recalibrate the monitor and NEVER use canned profiles from the monitor manufacturer. They are almost always corrupt. As a very last resort, you can use sRGB as the monitor profile (delete any profile found in the windows display properties) but only to hold you over until you can really calibrate it. The other problems with weird errors are pretty worrisome though. Do you also get them when you start a fresh catalog?

  • Another white balance presets/settings question

(this is related to two other posts regarding white balance presets, but didn't want to hijack those threads with my own specific questions...)
i've got a canon s70, and have been messing around with a friends copy of aperture. the raw files of my camera are recognized (though the aperture camera support page identifies it as not optimized support), but the problem is that the white balance settings in camera are ignored.
when i view a raw file from my camera in aperture, the exif data shows that it is recognizing different white balance settings (various numbers are displayed here, for example, 1 for auto, 3 for tungsten, 6 for manual, etc). however, the temp. and tint settings are the same for all the images, regardless of wb setting (5278K temp, -18 tint).
    so, here are my questions:
    - is there any setting i'm missing that would let aperture correctly interpet the wb temp for a specific setting? in another thread regarding canon cameras and wb someone stated that aperture reads wb 'as shot', but it seems odd that it would recognize these different wb settings but apply the same temp and tint calculations across the board.
-i noticed that i can create white balance presets and apply them manually. i was wondering if it's possible to apply preset wb settings automatically. for example, is it possible to create an approximate wb setting for 'tungsten' (3), and then have it applied to all images with the '3' setting, either automatically on/immediately after import, or through an applescript or automator action?
while i could use lightroom, atm lightroom is lacking some features that i crucial to my wider image management/workflow needs (though it does correctly interpret my white balance settings). aperture seems like the best bet for me, but i would rather not go through my library of raw files and manually change the wb settings for each image.
thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know about your other white balance issue, but yes, you can apply a white balance to a selection of images.
Create a set of WB presets (one for daylight, cloudy, fluorescent, tungsten etc.). This takes moments and will be available on any future occasion.
Select and apply your WB preset to an image
Fine tune as needed (since in-camera auto white balance or presets often do not nail it)
    Select Lift/Stamp tool
    Click on your adjusted image
In the Lift/Stamp HUD, deselect all adjustments except the WB
    Select all target images
Click "Stamp Selected Images" button in the Lift/Stamp HUD

  • White Balance and other Mayhem

This past weekend I was shooting as usual when unexpectedly for several minutes, it was “open season”, anything goes color wise so the footage from that segment is filled with totally inappropriate tints, hues and false coloration like all of the sudden the white balance went haywire amongst other factors.
Then, thrown in for good measure the lighting keep shifting from light to dark to light.
    Accordingly, my questions are these:
My goal is to somehow salvage these minutes if it isn’t too much work assuming it can be made to look right. The problem is all of my color correcting experience to date has been solely with digital photography. I have none at all with Premiere and CS3 which appears to eb very involved and complex comparatively speaking. Is there a solution that a newbie to color correction could pursue to some level of success at least as a viable starting point that anyone care to share and explain in some detail?
Does CS 3 have any autofixes or functions exclusively recommended for white balance issues?
For example digital photo editing programs have sliders named just that or maybe they’ll be split between temperature and another associated parameter.
Thanks as any information, suggestions or advice acquired will be used to learn and grow.

Thanks for all of your valuable suggestions.
The problem was compounded when there were drastic shifts in the levels of ambient light also occuring at the same time.
    Happy Holidays to everyone.
    Bruce
