HELP! SETTING FOR ONLINE GAMING.

Hi all reading this,
I am having trouble with my wiresless router (WRT54GS). I've got it all setup on my network for wireless and RJ45 data points. The problem is I don't know how to set up these ports for online gaming. The manual told me the ports it uses but does not mean anything to me when i'm trying to insert it into the router. Here's what the game manual tells me:
TYPE                        LOCAL                  REMOTE
udp                           any                          27900
tcp                             any                          29900
tcp                              any                        29901
tcp                            any                           6667
udp                            6500                       27900
udp                            6500                        any
tcp                             any                           28910
udp                            13139                        13139
udp                              any                           27900
tcp                              any                            28910
this is very confusing for me where to ener the data. I just need to know how to set it up.
Thanks

hi... logon to router's setup page, open I.E. and in the address bar typ 192.168.1.1 it would ask for username and password, put "admin" as a password (default password) without any username...click on "applications & gaming" >> port triggering and trigger these ports which you've mentioned in the post...

Hi, I'm trying to set-up port forwarding for online gaming. There's a section that asks for port numbers, "Enter the starting numbers of the External Ports (the port numbers seen by users on the Internet)" Where do I find the numbers of the ports?

If the game isn't listed there, google for it.

(currently approximately 200-300 players at any given time)
    thank you for the assistance...

Yes it certainly can but which online games have

  • Is BT Infinity good for Online Gaming...?

I see many people on coming on complaining that they are getting many disconenctions, lag, high ping rates etc...which leads me to my question, Is BT Infinity good for online gaming?

I came to infinity from VirginMedia where jitter is awful and your TBB graph would be full of yellow! On infinity my jitter is pretty much non existent and latency is very low.

my modem is Pantech UML290     .i  notice cannot play any online games...my old 3g modem works perfectly with the same games but this new service as far as online games or this modem apparently has issues...i have had nothing but problems, high ping rates and packet loss as well as jitter and no one with the exception of 1 service tech apparently cares  TECH DID A PING TEST AT ADRESS  ping -a 66.174.92.14  result were request timed out 4 times, packets sent=4 packets recieved=0  pakets loss = 4 , total= 100% loss, funny thing is i was still connected to internet  and if you ping google.com 0 paket loss...  apparently consistancy or server recognition might be a problem i dont know...maybe modem is bad...either way i cannot play any online games what so ever, when tested at speed test.com and pingtest.com states high ping and high jitter as well as packet loss, no one seems to have an answer for this  note!! on old 3g device i had played these same online games without any problems...so this 4g modem and service advertises online gaming and steady streaming and i cannot do neither why???  someone plse help!!!  also if you look under vz access manager statistics tab, you will see transfer and recieve rates like a heart beat monitor....it consistantly goes up and down like a heart beat instead of a steady flow, goes up as high as 10mbs then drops for a while to 0kbs and stays their for a lil bit...it apparently is loosing communications....old 3g device was a steady transfer flow rate that never dropped to 0 unless i wasnt doing anything...so why is this as well?

have'nt had any phone call's today regarding the slow down of my BT infinity broadband line.. in the last 3 hours have been online on both the PS3 & the XBOX and the problem is still there... im host in every online game i play but each game is almost unplayable every time..the actual game i play as host on the PS3 runs really slow (only as host) and looking left/right has a blurry feel to it.. on the XBOX its running slightly quicker but still nowhere like it does on both consoles when im not hosting.. when ever everybody else hosts a game that i join, after speaking to them they have had no problem what so ever.. most seem to be on a cable ISP but the speed stats are very simular to mine.. just the hosting is totally different for me...???

  • Ideal BIOS Settings for online gaming

this is my 1st computer that i built. i have a lot of experience in wiring high-end electronics, so wiring this little rig with barely any visible wires/cables was a breeze. I bought the processor/mobo with the intention of only doing minor O/C as i dont really know all that much on the hardware side of improving performance. with that said, i've searched for timings and settings for my specific combination, and i cant find any. again, i dont really want to push the config past a safe level, as i will be selling this machine when the 64's come down in price. can someone help me set the proper frequencies/timings? i have a lot to learn, and even in the normal bios settings i don't know if certain things should be enabled or disabled for my main purpose, which is to simply play 3D online games very  fast. i will be changing out the GeforceFX5200 PCI for a 5600 AGP in a week or so. I'm noticing that my old Comcrap PIII 1.0Ghz w/512SDRAM with this video card gets just as good a ping ingame as this rig does. the machine starts quickly, runs offline programs quickly, but online it isnt as fast as i'd hoped. from what i've read in the other forums, there are many settings in the bios that are enabled by default that don't need to be. can someone help me decipher which settings are useful and which are not. i loosely understand some of the settings but if someone could help with the questions below and/or do a walkthru for bios geared toward gaming i'd really appreciate it. The machine runs very cool (CPU 104*F/SYS 93*F) but i dont know what else needs adjustment. I simply want to make this machine go as fast and as hard as it can with the right config. i don't want to unlock the processor yet or do anything else major at this point.
1: Best yet safe Voltage for my processor and RAM
    2: FSB clock; 133 or 166? had problems @ 200
    3: S.M.A.R.T. on or off?
4: Best IRQ/PCI slot for video card
5: "GoodMEM" utility: how much should i safely allot?
    6: Video BIOS Cacheable?
    7: Multiplier setting for K7N2DeltaL & XP2600+
8: VGA Aperture (my card is 128MB but PCI. upgrading soon)
i'll be learning more as i go along, so i dont really need a full explanation of what's what, lol THIS TIME. all i need is a rundown where someone tells me what to leave alone, and what to change for a very fast yet safe gaming rig

    OK I'm officially confused.
I bought the retail boxed AthlonXP2600+, which clearly states on the packaging "With 333 MHZ Frontside Bus". i bought the board over others, one reason being it supported 400MHz FSB. I go into "Advanced Chipset Features" and when i set the "System Performance" to "Manual", i can then go into the "CPU FSB Clock" settings, but the max it will allow me to go to is 233MHz (which won't boot and i have to flip the jumpers. when i had set it to 200MHz before, it failed to boot as well... PLEASE can someone look over these settings and tell me the OPTIMAL settings for taking this combo as fast as it can go w/o overclocking? What am i doing wrong? what multiplier do i need to be at. I'm under the impression that the combo works best when the clock speed of the board is at the same speed as the processor. here are the  BIOS settings with which i need advice:

  • What Mac product is best for online gaming?

I purchased a MacBook Pro for my daughter & she loves it. She was a little disappointed that she couldn't play some of her online games because the web browser wasn't compatible. Other than that she had no complaints.
Is there a software that's needed in order to play online games? I'm not sure I want to purchase a Mac Desktop for the family & have issues with online gaming.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

Well for browser based games you likely have to install Firefox and the Flash browser plugin, they are likely not accepting Safari in particular because of it's small market share.
Firefox, Chrome and IE they have to support.
    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
    https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Online gamming tend to mean heavy duty 3D games that are competitive, require a very powerful video card etc. for that really no Mac is ideal, a Windows 7 3D gaming tower is a more preferred option as the video cards can be upgraded.
Sure one can play offline 3D games well on a Mac, but that's not as much fun as online competitive gaming is.
For that you might want to consider a PlayStation 3 for lower cost, easier to use larger screen (HDTV) and a level playing field in hardware.

  • OK WHATS THE BEST MOTHERBOARD AND CPU FOR ONLINE GAMING

Here i go again thinking about stepping up on motherboaerds and cpus! If you have an opinion on which would make the best online gaming setup let me here you hollor! I will only go with intel so all amd lovers  dont bother!

He's better off with a Q6600 over the E6850, because you can clock the Q6600 to QX6850 speeds and it's quad core, so future proof anyway.
    And the Q6600 costs less.
However the CPU will be very limited by that 7900GT.
    A 8800GTX or HD2900XT would be a better choice.
EDIT: Get a G0 stepping Q6600, they have a lower TDP of 95w and require less voltage.

  • How do you set-up NAT for online gaming?

Hi i have recently bought a time capsule as a backup system and a wireless router to replace my old Netgear router. I want to play Age of Empires 3 on my Acer PC running XP against other people on the internet. The game now fails to connect because the Time Capsule does not support UPnP. I've read about setting up NAT in the online manual, but I don't understand some of the details (e.g. on page 56 is says "enter the same IP address onto the host computer"). How do i do this? Indeed, would this even work with NAT instead of UPnP even if I did manage to do it? I really need an idiots guide. Can anyone please help?

  • Configure for online gaming

I have a wireless router WRT54G and I need to reconfigure it for playing my XBOX 360 online better. I was told by xbox to open the 3 gaming ports. First gaming port UDP-88, Second port UDP-3074, Third port TCP-3074. I was also told to enable UPNP. Finally to set MTU setting to 1364 to 1400. Any help on how to do this would be awesome! Thanks!

First thing you have to make sure is that, you have to assign a static ip address on XBOX like 192.168.1.10, with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, and gateway 192.168.1.1, DNS1 as 192.168.1.1 and DNS2 as 4.2.2.2 . Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. Go to security tab, and disable block anonymous internet requests. Go to applications and gaming tab. Now Forward the 3 ports you have, to this static ip address, which you assign to your XBOX

  • WRT54G Ver.2 Trying to set up Online gaming.

I will give an exact detail on what I am trying to do, so it will help you all determine my problem.
I have a Wireless WRT54G ver.2 router and my buddy has the same type of set-up.
I am trying to set up an online game with my friend playing Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour. When we set-up our game, both of our IP's are the 192.168.1.XXX. I try to connect to his I.P., but it tells me "Connection timed out". We have tried to disconnect the router on his end, and it still gives the same error. When I go into the options in the game, it says my I.P is 192.168.1.100. How can we connect if we are both using routers that have this similar IP. It is a pain in the @$$ to have to disconnect both of our routers just to get a few games in. So this is my situation, and I hope this is enough info to help me out. Thanks in advance. ~Donte

    Hi there!
You need to forward ports (by doing port forwarding on your router) first so it can pass the router's firewall...and by the way, the IP address the game is referring to is the public "Internet" IP address which is on the status tab of your router. For the forwarding instructions click here

  • Wireless vs. ethernet for online gaming

    hello,
i play diablo2 online sometimes and wondered if airport is as fast as ethernet with the cable plugged into the imac for gaming. thanks
    jeff

    Hi Jeff,
In a perfect world they should be equal. I have mine connected via wireless router and it hums along at pretty much the max speed that I can achieve on my broadband connection. I've got the another 2 machines @ 50+ feet away in another room and connects at a very high speed. I've never had any drop a signal unless I'm outside and about 50 feet away from house...

If you are using WAF, assuming you are if you are posting to this alias, then this should be fairly straight forward. If you are using just standar JSP/Servlet without use of WAF or another framework, like JSF (with Creator) or Struts, then this can be more tedious and difficult than need be.
So, are you using a framework? If so, if it is not WAF (JATO), then you might need to post to another forum.

  • Infinity and online gaming

    Hello
I am relativly new to infinity and was wondering if anyone could tell me why its so bad for online gaming?
My download speeds are virtually always 37.5mb download and between 8 - 9mb upload although upload drops sometmimes to slightly lower

however i always get loads of lag when playing on xbox live, to the point it is not worth playing, it gets worse than when I was on normal copper wire broadband.
I have also noticed that there is quite a delay before web pages open when browsing the internet in general, my ping used to be pretty consistent at around 17 - 20ms before I switched to infininty but now seems to jump around lot even going as high as 300ms on occasion.
my line profile seems to have set at 38.10mb which I am happy with, and the engineer who installed my infinity said that my line stats were excellent.
all this said then why do i seem to be suffering when using xbox live??

    Hi Cameron
No I have been trying it with the wireless disabled, although on our old connection this wasnt an issues, myself and my son could both use our xboxs together on the one connection and still it was better than at presen
I didnt have the cable in the gigabyte port, I have now though, what does this port do?
Yes port forwarding set to xbox live
