Help setting MTU settings so I can connect set up Xbox Live..

Ok, so I'm trying to set up my Xbox to my wireless internet via a wireless adaptor. I've been working on configuring the network, and after many different problems I got to the error message that said that I needed to change the MTU settings of my router. Well my router is the AirPort Extreme, and all the posts I've looked at thus far say that it's impossible to change the MTU settings of the router. How can I connect my xbox to the internet then? I can't hardline it right into the router because it's in a different room.....
Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the discussions!
Sorry, that this is not going to help your immediate problem, but none of the Apple AirPort routers have an adjustment or setting for MTU, therefore packets are sent through the Airports "as is". In other words, the packet size is not changed.
I'm afraid that your only real option would be to change the MTU setting on each computer or device on the network.
Since you can't run an ethernet cable to the Xbox, (which would be the best and fastest way to connect), you might want to consider using a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by sending the ethernet signal over the AC powerline in your home. I've found this type of connection be faster and far more reliable than wireless, but of course your mileage may vary.

  • XBOX ONE. I have the xbox one and the airport time capsule and cant connect to most xbox live games and zero parties. I have 0 experience in all this but somehow was able to change NAT to open but still wont connect. HELLLPPPP

Okay folks, I need your help out there.
So the nerdy side of me went and picked up the XBOX ONE on release day. Its awesome by the way, BUT..... I cant seem to connect to most xbox live games and absolutely ZERO parties. At first I just thought it was something to do with the xbox itself and would eventually fix itself, but i was wrong. After looking into it on microsoft, i found out that it had to do with my NAT settings on the airport itself. I guess apple and xbox are not compatiable for xbox live and it makes it difficult to have an open NAT setting and is a huge PAIN.
I was able to pinpoint one that the airport time capsule was blocking the IPV6 something or another. Anyways, I unblocked that, and reset the modem and time capsule and jumped on the xbox and now have open NAT settings but still cant connect to multi-player.
Upon further searching, i was told to uncheck the UPNP on my time capsule as well, but have no idea how to find that.
I know it seems confusing, but thats the best i can describe it.
    tthanks all

Be a long long time before I see an Xbox One.. but whoever told you to uncheck the upnp in the TC.. tell them their dreamin' .. upnp is not support by Apple in any computer or router, never has been.. Apple deliberately wrote their own version called NAT-PMP to do the same thing.. dynamically open ports at the request of an application or client computer.
So there is nothing like that to uncheck.. and as a matter of interest.. there no box to check or uncheck for NAT-PMP either.. since apple do not believe in end user adjustment of settings.. they simply do not exist.
You will have to manually forward all ports required by the Xbox via the TC. For multi-player games you probably need to open more ports than the standard to allow just xbox live. You will need to check the ports required and open them.
    OR
Buy a standard vista UPNP compatible router.. and use that.. and simply put the TC in bridge in the network.
I have not seen posts yet about xbox one.. but there are plenty about xbox and ps3 and the fact that Apple really doesn't give a hoot about games consoles.
This is a good basic post for older xbox.

  • WRT54G Can't play on xbox live and connect wirelessly to router or internet from comp at same time

    Hi guys.
I have a WRT54G and since I have had it I havent been able to connect wirelessly to see my router or get online form my comp while my xbox 360 is on xbox live. My other computer though, which is wired, can connect online anytime wether the xbox 360 is on line or not. Any help would be nice.

I have a similar problem to this. I do some online gaming, and while my roommates are playing XBOX live (which is a lot now that halo 3 came out) I cant even connect, and if i do connect i get such a high latency it is unplayable. I would also greatly appreciate any help on this issue.

  • No connection to Marketplace & Xbox Live

    Hi,
If I touch the Marketplace or the Xbox LIVE button, the phone just returns to the menu screen. Nothing happens at all. As well as with a WiFi connection as with my mobile data connection. I also checked if my Live ID en phone have the same country (the Netherlands). The live-button also indicates that 1 app needs an update, but again: it just returns to the main menu. If I select Marketplace in the smaller submenu with all apps then the phone just flips back to this page.
In the 'Great Apps' app I can see new apps, but I cannot select any of them to install or to see their details.
The same goes by the way for Music & Videos: that tile also just keeps flipping back to the menu (while Nokia Music does work).
Sounds familiar or any ideas to fix this? Thanks!

    5) Also assign the DNS Addresses on the Xbox Use DNS1 and DNS2 Addresses you took note off of the router status tab as Primary DNS & Secondary DNS for the xbox...
    6) Turn off your modem, router, and Xbox...Wait for a minute...
    7) Plug the modem power first, wait for another minute and plug the router power cable, wait another minute and turn on the Xbox and test it...it will connect...

  • WRK54G - Unable to connect wirelessly to Xbox Live on 360

Hi, I recently purchased the Xbox 360 Wireless adapter to use to connect with Xbox Live, because in my new house a wired connection is not feasible. However, when I try to connect to Live, the 360 is not recognizing a wireless network. I know that the WRK54G has not received an official Microsoft Xbox Live certification, but is there a way to use this router to connect to Xbox Live wirelessly? Thank you.

Are you using dhcp? If so, dhcpd will helpfully adjust your MTU to what the network claims it wants. However, this can cause problems in various cases. (It stopped me accessing aur from home, for example.) If you would rather it not do this, comment the line in /etc/dhcpd.conf like so:
    #option interface_mtu

  • Netgear router keeps dropping connection - Safari, iChat, XBOX Live

    Hello ALL
So I have a driving me crazy problem, which I have tried MS Support, Netgear Support and Demon Support, so now I am asking the masses.
I have an iMac and PowerBook, running OSX 10.4.3, and a Netgear DG814 Router, with built in modem and ethernet ports.
When surfing the web, either Safari or Firefox, the page often starts to load, then freezes on the progress bar, a quick refresh normally sorts it out.
MSN Messenger or iChat, fine at the start, then after sending a handful of messages, signs me out.
XBOX(360) live signs me in, the after 4 minutes signs me out.
iTunes 6, starts downloading a PodCast then freezes, after getting about 2Mb of the file.
    What I have tried:
New firmware on the Netgear Router.
    Installing BroadBand Tuner.
    Uninstalling Broadband Tuner.
New cables to my telephone socket.
    New cables to my ethernet.
    Rebooting all equipment.
Resetting the settings in my XBox 360.
Downloading podcasts as MP3's instead of subscribing.
Opening ports on Mac OSX Firewall for iChat and MSN.
Please help, this is driving me crazy.

Hi Ben de Freitas, just responded to your iMac question, now will take a try at this one.
There was a recent thread on here about a problem connecting to a Belkin router. Solution that finally worked after trying:
    1. Power cycle the iPad
    2. Reset WiFi settings
    3. Hard reset of iPad...hold both sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears
    4. Power cycle the router.
The last had to be done by a reset button on the back of the Belkin router. Make sure the router is shutdown completely before restarting it.
Enter all of the network settings by hand into the iPad. Make sure Settings > Safari AutoFill is turned OFF.
    See if that doesn't help.

  • MTU settings(xbox prob)

Hi I asking here because im wondering if its possible to change this with my wrt54g router.
See the situation is my school has did something and the i get a error saying i need a minimum  of 1364 mtu. So im guessing my school has set it lower then 1364. so this is preventing me from connecting to live , can anyone help me out with this?
Also i know i could simply talk to my network admins but thats not a easy task believe me. I doubt they will care enough about me having problem connecting to xbox live(they havent even emailed me back after 3 days and i got brushed off already) and i cant find enough people to make this big enough to get them to look into it,
So im trying to see what i can do on my own. Thanks

As you are using this router in your school, then you might face this problem connecting to the XBOX live. As your School Network and the Router both will have a Private Network, This kind of network is called as NAT behind NAT, and in this kind of network XBOX and PS3 faces problem.
May be you can try to Cascade your linksys router with your school network. You can follow this link to cascade your linksys router.

  • PC + Mac + xbox live help

Hey all, I'm going to be getting a mac mini for xmas and I'm not sure of the best way to network my internet connection. At the moment I have orange broadband unlimited and this is connected to my pc via a phone line > thomson usb modem and a usb port on my comp. The only network card on the comp is then directly connected to my xbox 360 via cat5e cable. Now when I get the mac I'd like to share this internet connection with all 3 (using the pc as the computer where I dail the connection off). The mac is wireless and supports 802.11g network, I would prefer to set the mac up in my bedroom with a seperate monitor etc and run it wirelssly, but I'd also like to keep the xbox directly connected to the pc via the network card (as I don't have to buy the wireless kit for the 360 and its running A1 as it is). So is there any sort of router out there that can do this or even better would some sort of usb router, or if not what sort of wired router can do this?
    Any help appreciatted [:D]

You might want to consider trading in your USB modem for a wireless gateway. For example, the Linksys WAG200G Gateway. With a device like this, you can connect your PC & Xbox via wire and the Mac wirelessly.

  • Express extending Extreme's Network, Xbox Live not connecting.

    Hey Everyone!
I have an Airport Express (n version) extending my Airport Extreme's (n version) wifi successfully. My Xbox is connected to my Express via ethernet. My Xbox was able to successfully download a system update, but fails when attempting to update an Xbox Live update. I checked Microsoft's website to make sure Xbox Live was running properly, which it is. My network test on the Xbox tells me that it can connect to the Network, it can connect to the internet, but CANNOT connect to Xbox Live. My ip address does start with 10.0.x.xx, I'm wondering if that is part of the issue? I have never had any issue downloading things on the internet via my laptop. My other idea is that I haven't updated my Xbox in about 6 months, so maybe there's just a large amount of updates and it's receiving a bug of some sort? Can someone help me out here?
    -Nate

First, have you had an opportunity to try some of the connectivity troubleshooting options provided by Microsoft for Xbox LIVE? For example, either Xbox LIVE Connection Problems or Xbox LIVE Connection Solution (aka Connection Wizard)? If so, what was the exact error(s) that either were reporting?
Typically, when your console is able to access the Internet, but not to Xbox LIVE, the issue can be one of at least three things: 1) ICMP, 2) NAT, or 3) MTU errors. Were any of these reported when you ran the connectivity tests?

  • Trying to change NAT connection from moderate NAT connection to an open NAT connection for XBOX LIVE

Hi, I have a Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router/WRT160Nv2 and I have been trying to change my NAT connection from a moderate NAT connection to a open NAT connection for my Xbox Live on my Xbox 360. I can sign into my Xbox Live account but it is working on a moderate NAT connection. I have already enabled the UPnP and put in the proper port numbers. After doing that I signed into my Xbox Live on my Xbox 360 and tested my Xbox Live connection and still it says that I a moderate NAT connection. I do not know what elso to do and I would greatly appreciate step by step help from anybody who knows what they are doing. PLEASE HELP ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!
    Thank you

A known issue with Linksys routers is the NAT Type 3 or anything related to dropping of Internet connectivity during play time.  Network Address Translation (NAT) is the ability of a router or firewall to translate a public IP address to a private IP address and vice versa.  It adds security to the network by keeping the private IP addresses hidden from the outside world.

  • Airport Express as wifi card for Xbox Live, then connect to Extreme network

My son just got xbox Live and we're trying to use Airport Express as wifi card for xbox (connected to xbox via ethernet). We use Airport Extreme as router for the house.
We're having trouble setting up Xbox Live, keep getting stuck at getting the xbox to communicate/access the web. Error reads "can't obtain IP address from router... make sure DHCP is enabled and has a large enough address range for all devices on network.. also make sure MAC filtering allows your console's MAC address or is disabled... "
We dont' know what else to do. I'm at wit's end before giving Gates $100... Anyone know how to get connected?
    Thank you!

You can also perform a simple test to verify if you have an internet connection at the ethernet port on the AirPort Express.
Move a laptop near the Express, turn off the wireless on the laptop, and connect to the Express using an ethernet cable. See if you can open your browser and get a good solid internet connection.
If you can, the Express is setup correctly and you know that you have an internet connection reaching all the way to the Xbox.
If you can't then there is a configuration error somewhere and it will need to be identified and corrected.
