Help setting up Apple mail using AT&T settings

I'm trying to set up my AT&T e-mail on my MacBook, which is running OS X Tiger (pretty sure -- definitely not Leopard). I know it's a POP3 account, and I have the incoming mail and outgoing mail settings.
When I click on mail, it starts to walk me through setting up a new account. Everything works great until I get to the outgoing mail part. It tries to connect to the server and just hangs there. I usually end up canceling because it's taking so long. If I wait long enough, I get an error message that says it couldn't connect to the outgoing mail server.
Does anyone have any experience trying to set up Apple mail with AT&T settings? If so, I'd really love the help! Thanks in advance...

AT&T had to give you more than that: port numbers for each server (incoming and outgoing), authentication method to use, and whether or not SSL should be enabled for either. We need to know that information.

  • What's the difference in Apple Mail using "On My Mac" folders vs Export Mailbox?

What's the difference in Apple Mail using "On My Mac" folders vs Export Mailbox?

One (On My Mac) is a set of folders, the other is a way to export a mailbox for archiving or transfer to another machine.
What do you want to do, these are not even similar.

  • Setting up apple mail account with imap fails

    Hi folks.
I have a mail address from a german provider www.all-inkl.com.
My hardware is a MacBook Air 1,7 GHz Intel Core i5 with MacOSX 10.7.5
I do not succeed setting up Apple Mail (Version 5.3) for this mail address using IMAP. Strangely it works on Thunderbird 17 for Mac.
Find the settings below (those which Thunderbird accepts):
    INCOMING: imap.XXXX.de – Port 143
    OUTGOING: smtp.XXXX.de – Port 587
    STARTTLS
    Email: [email protected]
    Username: j.raff
Apple Mail says (translated from German):
"Login at the IMAP Server 'imap.XXXX.de' failed. Make sure Username and Password are correct ..."
    Does anyone have a clue?

Thank you for staying with me.
And, yes, I have the same error as described above.
    I double checked all details.
Still, there is some ambiguity with username and servernames. Username may either be the email  OR email name before @ OR client number ... Tried all.
Btw, in the Android E-Mail App it doesn't work either. I guess I have to call the provider.

can you set up apple tv using 2 different itunes accounts from 2 different macs in same household?

No, you can only connect to one Home Sharing account at a time. If you want to see the content of the other Mac's library you will have to turn off Home Sharing on the Apple TV and log back in with the other iTunes account.

  • Is there a problem with Apple Mail using IMAP

Is there a problem with Apple Mail using IMAP?  Having a problem syncing to our mail server: doesn't sync properly when multiple devices use same mail acct.  Spoken w/ mail hosting provider who says Apple Mail doesn't follow IMAP protocol properly leaving Apple Mail users to experience a variety of problems when connecting to IMAP accounts.  Among them:
    - Improper syncing
    - Proliferation of drafts during composition of an email.
    - Connections on the mail host do not close automatically and proliferate over time until the host rejects further connection requests.
Hosting provider goes on to suggest turning off IDLE command.  In my experience turning this feature off did not improve the situation.  In fact, it created a few.
Question: Is the hosting provider correct in faulting Apple Mail?
Been fielding the question with a number of people.  I'm aware of three people who are experiencing similar problems, each using different mail hosts.  Tech reps at inmotionhosting.com and nexcess.com point the finger at a Apple Mail, along with an IT specialist in Los Angeles, CA, and a tech support rep at an Apple Store in Arizona who said that Apple and Google mail are aware of and coordinating to resolve the problem.
Anyone out there have any insights into this?

  • HELP!! Apple mail set up with Bellsouth.

I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem setting up there bellsouth.net email address with apple mail. Incoming messages are fine but when i try to send a message there is a message that says the server cant be used. I am positive i have followed bellsouth.net's online instructions.

Sometimes it is the simple things- you look at it a hundred times and don't see it. Thank you for the insight. I have been working around the problem for more than a couple of weeks. The fix was as simple as switching the two letters. Somehow I got the exact order right on the first one, then botched the others. I flipped back and forth between the working one and the others trying to see a difference and I never noticed the smpt instead of smtp.
As for passing on what worked, I don't know what specifics I have that will help. The smtp.att.yahoo.com works fine (now that I have typed it correctly). The user name does have to be the entire address in front of and behind the @. I remember when I was setting email accounts up that the info from ATT said email must use SSL. The only other thing I notice is port number 465- don't know if that is important or not.
Hope that will help others. Again, thanks for helping me!

  • Setting Up Apple Mail With Multiple G-Mail Addresses

I have tried unsuccessfully to do this and need some help or for someone to say it will not work.
I have recently gone all Apple (MacBook Air, iPad and iPhone) and have an iCloud account set up. I love the sharing and synching but I am having a horrible time setting up the Apple Mail to work with my google account.
    I am using OSX 10.8.2
    PROBLEM
To have the Apple client retrieve all gmail from several gmail addresses and synch them across all devices and allow me to respond with the appropriate email address.
I have several email addresses that are handled by Google now. Example
    [email protected]
[email protected] (I own the domain)
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
When I receive an email, and want to reply to it, I want to reply with the appropriate email address.  I have tried and it alsways seems to default to the main google mail addess.  Similarly, I would like to be able to start a new email and select which address I send from.  An d finally, as a bonus--is there a way to create signatures for each of them?
    Thanks

    Thank you!
So, instead of having several email accounts under a single gmail sign-in, I need to have X separate ones?  It might make sense then at this point to blow my domains out of google and just create them individually in Mail. Right?

  • Help Setting Up 2nd Mail Server

I am running Mac OS 10.4 server. I have several web sites running on this server but only one of the domains currently has a mail server. I use Server Admin & Workgroup Manager to administor as I am not very unix savvy.
Here is what I have done so far.
Created the domain: m2venturepartners.com in the web:sites section
Created the Web Server Alias mail.m2venturepartners.com under the Web:Site:Aliases section
Since the DNS and website is hosted elsewhere I had them create the MX record that points to mail.m2venturepartners.com and a DNS record that points mail.m2venturepartners.com to 209.233.105.38 the ip address for my server.
I created mail users with the workgroup manager enabling mail and adding the mail server: mail.m2venturepartners.com
At this point I set up a user client and successfully logged into both the imap & smtp servers. But when I send an email to a [email protected] it comes back with the following failure notice:
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at yahoo.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.

    X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.752.3)
I'm lost as to what to do under the Mail section of Server Admin. Because this section was filled in when I set up my original domain (theteelfamily.com) and I can't figure out how to add additional domains.
Can someone help me get this 2nd mail server up receiving mail?
    Thanks

I am having the same sort of problems as you - and I have not been able to resolve my problems as yet. The document which was referred to earlier might be helpful, but I have not been able to get this to work, and Apple don't seem to offer any real Postfix support. I can get outgoing mail to work but incoming mail is always rejected for one reason or another (550 nu such mailbox is the usual problem).

  • Need help with Apple Mail POP Google App Settings

I am using Google Apps Account for the domain name xyz.travel
I have set-up POP Account on Apple Mail for my Email address [email protected] with the Google Mail settings of POP and SMTP correctly. No Problem.
However, in my Email Address [email protected] there are 3000+ Emails which is more than 3 years old. I do not want all these Emails to be uploaded on my Apple Mailbox. It will take ages for all these 3000+ Emails to be uploaded in my Apple Mailbox. I only want to be able to send Emails from the Apple Mailbox and receive the Emails that I received on [email protected] henceforth.
Can someone please help me ?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Quit and relaunch Mail, and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • How can I set up Apple Mail to display the sender's "from icon" in the header info?

    Hi,
I have gone into the preferences to set up custom headers, so that the icon sent to me from the email sender will display in the header, but do not see an option for this.  I want to do this for Comcast as a source specifically, as they embed an icon in their official emails and I have been receiving phishing  emails from sender pretending to be Comcast.  Comcast states on their website, that you can see their icon in any mail they send, however, this does not happen on my version of Apple Mail (4.5).
Here is an image of the info shown on the Comcast website, in case that helps to clarify my question.
    Thanks,
    Kim

On the Internet Accounts System prefs choose Add Other account…
    Pick Mail account.
On the first page where you enter username and password, hold down the Option key and the Create button will change to Next. Click that with Option held down.
You can then manually create the account.

  • TS2998 Help! My Mac mail uses another person's name in stead of mine in the "from" heading when trying to send e-mail. How can I fix this?

Mac mail started using another person's name instead of mine. In the "From" line it shows someone other than me so the receipient will not know I am sending them an e-mail. HELP!, This is crazy. Is there a fix?

Does this problem happen EVERY time you send an email?
Do you see the wrong FROM entry before you hit the send button? Or does the recipient report seeing another name other than yours?
Do you recognize the incorrect name being shown? Is it something you or someone else using your machine have ever used? Is it a name you have never heard of before?
Go to your SENT folder in Apple Mail. What do you see when you open one of your SENT emails, in the FROM slot? Is the name correct or incorrect?
Also, I don't understand your comment "I noticed it when I try to send a link via e-mail to another person." are you saying that when you paste a link into an email to someone that your name in the FROM field changes? Where are you putting the link, in what place in the email?
