Help Setting up VPN access

Morning all,
Yesterday I completed the installation of my SRP527W to my existing LAN.
I'm now trying to configure for VPN access and I'm not having much luck.
I'm running Windows Server 2003 and i just did the following:-
Manager Your Server - Remote Access/VPN Server - Manage this remote access/VPN Server - IP Routing - Static Routes and here I added our new Static IP address.
So having done that, no one here can still access the server so i'm wondering if I need to set up the router to allow VPN traffic.
Do I need to add individual profiles for people trying to gain access?
Can someone give me some advice on what I need to do because it appears that when we can't seem to get past the router.
Many Thanks
*ADDITIONAL*
I have now solved this - I needed to input the port forwarding settings to the router which now enables the pass-through.
ISSUE RESOLVED

OpenVPN will do the job for you - it's relatively easy to set up and it's cross-platform.

  • Need help setting up VPN with OS X Server 2.2

I just bought OS X Server in the hopes that it would be a simpler way to set up VPN for use with my iPhone.  I've tried a couple third party VPN configuration tools before with older versions of OSX but was never able to get it working.  Now I'm running 10.8.2 and Server 2.2.  I've made some progress, but I'm not quite there yet.
Here's what I have set up in the VPN window:
    And the user I created:
The User services show that VPN is selected:
I let the Server app configure my Airport Extreme, and it looks like it set up the port mapping:
    Here are my iPhone settings
-Server is set to my iMac's public IP address assigned by my ISP
-Password is the password I gave the user account
When I turn the VPN on in the iPhone I get:
    "Connecting..."
    "Starting..."
    "Authenticating..."
    then an error:
    "VPN Connection
    Authentification failed."
    What am I missing?
    Thanks,

  • Need help setting up remote access please

I have a new server 2012 network with a server built specifically for remote access
I need to set up simple remote access to LAN pc's, published apps, and to manage domain remotely
this is only a test setup and I want some security but first want teh basics setup then I can lock down
I ran the wizards and believe most things are done correctly when I added the roles, and firewall is allowing access to that server.
when I try to connect from external I get the remote server's default IIS web page, no remote access options
is there a simple checklist to test services internally and test the web page access internally?
I am not sure what information you may need so please ask for any details that will be helpful
Remote Gateway, licensing, web access and certificates have all been configured using the wizards

    Hi David,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Initially to remote access the application through RD Web we need to use https://servername/rdweb. Also please check the following setting.
In IIS: IIS Sites --> Default --> RDWeb --> Pages --> Application Settings --> DefaultTSGateway:
Set that to your RD Gateway access URL.
    Then restart IIS.
Your RemoteApps will then be able to find the proper gateway inbound.
When you created your collection bring up its properties and make sure the URL is specified in RD Gateway settings too. This generates the correct settings in the RDP files.
In addition, please checkthis article for information. Also please see whether you
have configured RD RAP and RD CAP properly and try to uncheck the option “Bypass RD Gateway for local address” under deployment properties and verify the result.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • WRVS4400N v2: Need help setting up VPN for Mac

I'm having problems trying to establish a IP Sec tunnel from the office to home. All of our machines are Macs so I have been using the directions described in "How to create an IP Sec tunnel for MAC Clients, A QVPN alternative" but I still can't get it to work. My setup is as follows:
The office is connected to the outside world through a MODEM (Sagemcom 2864 Connection Hub). This MODEM is also a wireless router. It's DHCP server provides addresses 192.168.2.x.
The WRVS4400N's WAN port is connected to one of the LAN ports on the MODEM. It's IP address from the MODEM is 192.168.2.x. The WRVS4400N provides addresses 192.168.21.x to devices connected to it.
We have a DynDNS account and are using the DDNS client on the WRVS4400N router to connect to it.
At home, we have a DIR-655 router with IP Sec Passthru enabled. The router provides IP addresses 192.168.1.x for all devices connected to it. I am fairly sure there are no issues with the router setup at home since I am able to VPN into the office of my full-time job without any problems.
I have tried just about everything I can think of but have not been able to get this to work. Can someone please help with setting up the Local and Remote Group Settings on the WRVS4400N and the IP address settings in IP Securitas?
    TIA

    Hi,
If you need to establish a client vpn connection with the WRVS4400N, first you need to insure that the modem infront support IPSec Passthrough and that UDP ports 500 and 4500 are forwarded to the WAN IP of WRVS4400N.
On WRVS4400N you have to configure IPSec VPN tunnel, and when configuring IPSecuritas insure that you have the same encryption as on the router.
It could help if you enable the Local logs and see the error message.
You can provide the log output and print screens of the IPSec configuration, also screenshot of configuration of IPsecuritas

  • Help setting up ftp access needed

    Hey all.
I have a powerPc running macOSX server and I experience difficulties setting it up so it can be accessed by a third party to say upload a file or something.
When I try to setup an account for a friend the work group manager tell me I'm on a node that is not visible outside my local network.
How do I authenticate for a visible one?

If he's accessing this machine, his account doesn't need to be visible to other machines on the network.
What that message is trying to tell you is that the account exists only on this machine and won't be shared to other machines in the network (which would be the case if this server was acting as a directory server).
For what you're trying to do here, that's fine - the user can authenticate using the account on this machine and you're set.

The most direct way is to configure VPN access with your Internet router, assuming it has a built-in VPN feature. What are you using for a router? If your router doesn't have VPN, another option (albeit less secure) is to set up port forwarding or NAT.
That's the networking side of things. What do you want your editors to be able to do from home with FCSvr? The extremely limited bandwidth will obviously significantly limit what is practical when using FCSvr via a typical residential broadband connection.

  • Help in setting up VPN for Remote Desktop

    Hi,
We recently purchased a Cisco RV220W VPN Router and want to set up VPN connections for about 10 users(employess) to connect to their work PCs (mostly win 7 & win 8) from their home computers (windows & mac) using Remote Desktop. The documentation is quite poor. Can anyone point me to a tutorial and/or help me out with steps and settings? From the Admin Guide, it looks like I should be configuring Remote Access with an IPsec Client, but it's not clear how to handle/route multiple machines?

    Hi Ray,
You can use the QuickVPN client to connect up to Windows 7 PCs. Windows 8 is not supported as of yet.
For Windows 8 and Mac you can create PPTP users or try a third party VPN client like Shrewsoft (Windows) or IPSecuritas (Mac). You also have the SSL VPN option in the RV220W. Please note that the third party clients are not officially supported by Cisco.
There are some good instructions for setting up Shrewsoft with the SA500 which is similar to the RV220W here:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-9378#comment-7216
    IPSecuritas for Mac:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/multi_function_security/multi_function_security_appliance/sa_500/technote/note/SA500_mac_appnote.pdf
Please reply if you have any questions.

For example in the manual they say I can choose "all" under Remote Secure Gateway but there is no option like that).
When I go to the VPN section this is what I get:
    1. Does this mean that I can connect to my modem via VPN from some other location? I would like to be able to connect to this modem when I am not at home from some remote location from my computer in order to be able to use NAS-Storage.
    2. If the answer on the first question is yes, what settings I need to enter for the:
    Local Secure Group
    Remote Secure Group
    Remote Secure Gateway
My ISP is using dynamic IP but I have DDNS.
My router local IP is 192.168.0.1

    Starting IP Address: 192.168.0.10

  • Port forwarding for clientless SSL VPN access

    Hello,
I am currently trying to set up clientless SSL VPN access for some remote sites that our company does business with. Since their machines are not owned by my company, we don't want to install/support a VPN client. Therefore, SSL is a great option.
However, I'm running into an issue. I'm trying to set up port forwarding for a few remote servers. These remote servers are different and have distinct IP addresses. They are attempting to connect with two different servers here.
But my issue is that both servers are trying to use the same TCP port. The ASDM is not letting me use two different port forwarding rules for the same TCP port. The rules can exist side-by-side, but they cannot be used at the same time.
Why? It's not trying to access the same TCP port on a server when it's already in use. Is there anyway I can get around this?
If this doesn't make sense, please let me know and I'll do my best to explain it better.

    Hi Caleb,
if you mean clientless webvpn port-forwarding lists, then you should be able to get your requirments. even the same port of the same server can be mapped to different ports bound to the loopback IP.
    CLI:
    ciscoasa(config) webvpn
    ciscoasa(config-webvpn)# port-forward PF 2323 192.168.1.100 23
    ciscoasa(config-webvpn)# port-forward PF 2300 192.168.1.200 23
then you apply the port-forwarder list under a group-policy
    Hope this helps

  • Setting up VPN Server fails in Windows 8.1

    Hello Folks
I'm trying to set up VPN server in my Windows 8.1 box to receive incoming connections. It fails at the last step (http://www.diaryofaninja.com/blog/2012/09/11/setting-up-a-vpn-server-on-windows-7-or-windows-8-ndash-secure-your-internet-use-while-away)
of the process (Allow Access) with the following error. I binged a lot but none of the trouble shooting mechanisms worked for me. I made sure that concerned service (Routing and Remote Access) can be started and stopped manually. Also, the same step works
    in Windows 7.
Please see attached for error details.
Highly appreciate any help for fixing the issue.
    Cheers
    Manohar

    Hi  Manooh,
Besides disabling IP v6, try reset the TCP/IP in the way below:
Open the command line windows as an administrator and type the command “nets hint ip reset” hit enter, or you can try the fix it below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
We usually modify the default RDP port 3389 to another value, if you followed this too, you should add an port exception through a firewall in the way below:
    1.Open Windows Firewall
2.In the left pane, click Advanced settings.
3.In the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security dialog box, in the left pane, click Inbound Rules, and then, in the right pane, click New Rule.
    4. Choose “port” and input the port number as allowed to connect.

  • Need help setting up Remote Desktop Services

This is my first server and I can't get Remote Desktop Services to work. I need to access my Server 2012 machine from my Windows 7 computer. I realize this is probably a trivial task for a server admin of any experience level, but I am utterly confused.
When I try to access https://servername.domainname.local/RdWeb, the webpage is unavailable. When I replace .local with .com, same result. Only when I use https:192.168.1.***/RdWeb it connects.
I log in and click an application. An rdp file is downloaded. I double-click the file. A warning message appears listing the URL of the remote computer (servername.domainname.local) and the gateway server (servername.domainname.com). When I log in from there,
    I get the following message:
"Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server address in unreachable or incorrect. Type a valid Remote Desktop Gateway server address."
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
The ideal method for managing a server from a client computer is achieved by installing the RSAT tools (remote server administration tools).
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39296
What these tools do is to actually install Server Manager on your client computer. However, you will need a Windows 8.1 computer to install the tools in the link above. They won't install on Windows 7. Note: The RSAT tools are available for Windows 7 but
you can only manage 2008 R2 and earlier with that version of RSAT. The RSAT tools are sync'd with the release of client and server versions.
RSAT does need a direct connection between the client and the server (as far as I know), so you can't manage your intranet server from the public Internet this way unless the server has a public IP address or - more ideally you have a VPN server set up to
    access your internal network.
As Tim mentions, you can configure routers with 'port forwarding' to connect via RDP from outside your private network to the inside. If you log into the router you should see this option but it does require some understanding of what you are doing.
In this case, you would need to connect to the router's external (public) IP address. You should be careful however enabling access into your private LAN from the outside as this does open you up to some security risks.
Another option for you is to use a 3rd party solution such as logmein or teamviewer although in my opinion these are less than ideal methods.
