Help Setting Up Windows PDC & Clients with 10.4.6 Server

Ok, here's what we have: A 10.4.6 Server set up as an OD master. Windows Services are running.
The majority of the clients are Macs, which authenticate flawlessly. What we want to do is allow the same people that use the Macs to be able to authenticate with the same account on any PC in a lab and get to their documents folder in their user home directory easily (mapped to My Documents).
We have been able to set the PCs up to the right domain, and successfully logged into them using the same accounts that the Macs use, but it's a bit squirelly. Only certain things will "save" when going back and forth between different PCs. Sometimes the background will save, sometimes it won't. Outlook Express accounts will only save on the local machine, so if they move to another PC, their OE account will not be there. Their homepage in IE will save pretty consistantly, but other setting will not. Also, we are getting this "desktop.ini" file showing up everywhere. It shows up in the start menu, in their favorites list, and in the startup items folder so it launches when they log in.
So is there a way to better "synch" the user's accounts when going back and forth between different PCs? Also, is there a way to map the My Documents folder to their Documents folder on the server? Sorry if this is confusing, but I can try to clarify if it's not clear...Thanks!

Hi there,
We do this in our place without any problems.
You say some stuff 'saves' and other stuff doesn't.
Can you be more specific ?
I take it that the permissions are correct on both the Users home directory AND the Profiles/UserName folders ?
As for that Pesky Desktop.ini file, took me a month to sort it out. There is a MSKB article on it, basically saying to delete it where it exists in 'All Users' profile on the local machines. This wasn't our problem. The file should be removed from the local users profile (there were 3 copies of it IIRC, one in Startup Item, one in Start Menu, and one in Start Menu/Program files.) Delete them all !
I think the root of the problem is the file should be hidden and windows gets upset if it's not.
Did you migrate the windows users profiles from a local profile perhaps ?

  • View change in the middle of sessions to Windows 7 clients with OneDrive

    Some Windows 7 clients habe reported that the view changes in the middle of sessions to Windows 7 clients with OneDrive.
    For example they have been able to see image pictures as normal in the beginning of sessions and then suddenly only image names !

    Hi  yourDragonXi,
    Is it a desktop One drive or a web browser Onedrive content? According to your description, the should be a Sync process when you open the images, besides a screenshot will be helpful to find the explanation.

  • Windows Update Error 80080005 Windows 7 Client with WSUS 3.0 SP2 server

    Hello everyone, I've looked around at other threads related to my issue, and I can't seem to find a correct answer.
    I have a computer lab that I've recently installed a Windows 7 Enterprise image onto 35 Dell Optiplex computers (most are 380's, a few older 360's).
    I created the image using MDT2010 and used one of the 380's as a reference.
    All has been well for about a month or two but recently 6 computers are giving me Windows Update errors with the error code of 80080005.
    I have a WSUS 3.0 SP2 server running, and all of my other computers seem to be getting their updates just fine.  WSUS has the problematic computers in it's database, but it shows that they haven't checked in for "x" days.
    I have Avast 4.8 Professional installed, I have OpenDNS configured to block bad websites, ____, etc. and I also use an Untangle server to prevent access to bad websites.  I've ran a Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan on the affected computers, as well
    as Windows Defender scan, and Windows Live OneCare scans, and all have found no malicious software.
    I have also tried resetting the Windows update service as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 as well as a script that supposedly does the same thing, but also resets all previous
    update events, but I can't find the script source right now (I had ran it last week, and it didn't work).
    I'm currently running a SFC /Scannow on one of the computers, and now it has finished.  It gives the error: Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.  I'll have to google that next.
    The last windows update that ran on the computer that I'm working on now was installed on 11-18-2010 and was a Windows Defender Update (KB915597 Def: 1.93.1985.0)
    Previous to that was 11/9/2010 2 updates: KB977165 and KB981852.
    I guess I'll have to look at all of the other machines to see if they have the same updates installed.
    Anyway, has anyone else had this problem?  I've seen vista home editions, and RC's but no real Windows 7 Pro+ RTM versions in business environments where updates were controlled by WSUS.
    Thanks for any help that you can provide!
    By the way, I only work at this location once a week (tuesdays, well thursdays too, but I'm next door to this building, but I have remote access), so bare with me on trying to fix things.

    Ok, for the sake of completeness, I have completed the instructions given by Miya Yao.
    After stopping the Windows Update Service (from an Admin Command prompt window), renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder to SDold, then starting the update service again, I still receive the same error when checking for updates.
    The windows update log shows this (starting from about 4am) and I just reset the service at about 9:10, which you can see in the log.

  • Problem synchronizing windows clients with solaris 10 NTP server

    Hello everyone,
    I realyy need help on the following:
    I tried to synchronize windows 2003 as client with NTP server running in Solaris 10
    My Time Zone in the NTP server is GMT+3, and in my windows is also set to GMT+3
    When I start NTP server and clients , I got 6 hours delay between the clients and the server
    I tried to synchronize the Solaris server with another solaris system, the synchronization is working fine
    Your help
    Regards
    Hakim Fourar

    True (but only for later releases). But since he mentioned getting a 6 hour offset after starting them, that makes me think that the systems are communicating, and that the time zones are incorrect.
    This is easily verified by using 'ntpq -p' and 'date ; date -u'. The first will show if the client thinks it is synchronized to a server (and what the UTC offset is in miliseconds). The second will show the date in the default timezone and in UTC.
    If you're not using POSIX, you'd think that GMT+XX meant east of UTC, but for POSIX, it means west of UTC.

  • Failed connection Windows 7 clients with WLC2504+NPS 2012

    Hello
    I have some interesting experience. I configured my wireless controller 2504 with a Windows 2012 Server as radius server for authenticating the active directory's users. So, I have one Windows 2012 R2 server configured as a Domain Controller and installed and configure NPS , and  CA server configured in another Windows 2008 R2 Server. Also I have  one clients PC's with Windows 8.1 and several Windows 7 connected to My Domain, also iPad and Android devices out  of Domain of course.
    I used this sources when configuring it.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/5700-series-wireless-lan-controllers/117684-configure-WLAN-00.pdf
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/5500-series-wireless-controllers/115988-nps-wlc-config-000.pdf
    The problem is, that all Windows 7 clients do not connect to my SSID with Auth 802.1.x + PEAP , but other clients connect successfully and automatically without problems.
    I tried a lot of action, for example , from this source http://www.networkworld.com/article/2160056/security/tips-for-troubleshooting-802-1x-connections.html
    But I have no success to resolve it. I ensured that W7 PC using the correct CertAutority. But,  anyway I reinstalled this Cert.
    I have no idea anymore. Please help.
    Some logs in attachments.

    Thank you for your reply, Sebastian
    Yes, I checked my certificates, and I tried to install manually a certificate of NPS server. Also tried to uncheck the Validate server certificate option. The result was the same - no connect, only logs in controller slightly was changed.
    Also in advanced section I chosen and User Authentication and User/Computer Authentication. The same result.
    I want to notice, that I configured one else radius server - the Cisco ACS 4.2. This server is not connected with Active Directory. And another ssid is fastened with this radius by EAP. The Windows 7 client connect to this ssid with the following options:
    Unchecked the Validate server certificate
    Unchecked Use Windows logon
    In Advanced Section, check and choose User Authentication, and save the local ACS username and password.
    Now, I want to install a radius on Windows 2003 Server, this server connected to Domain. Let's see how this works out.

  • Help setting up Window.location.href to open a file, and 1 other issue

    Hey there,
    I am a student currently working on a school project where I must make a website. I am trying to set up: window.location.href="C:\Users\*PCNAME*\Desktop\*SITE*"; in that fashion to open up a local file on my HDD, so when I click a specific area, it opens that page from my local files. This setting works with opening web pages like "http://www.google.com" just fine, but when I attempt to instead open up a file location I am given an error.
    Also, my other question is how to have more than 1: <script type="text/javascript"> function LinkTo(){, so that I can have 2 seperate buttons on my web page linking to 2 seperate sites.
    Here is a link to the PasteBin with my code: http://pastebin.com/Eawy2hcL
    Basically, I am wondering how to set up window.location.href to open  up a page located in my files rather than from the internet like Google or Facebook; and, I am wondering  how to have multiple LinkTo scripts set up so different buttons link to different pages and how to link those buttons to each script. I am new to Dreamweaver, so forgive me if anything is blindingly obvious!

    Okay, I'll try to explain better. Btw, thanks for the bottom part. Figured out I am not supposed to put the full location of the file, only the page (index.html), not C:\Users\*NAME*\etc...
    Anyways, I am wanting multiple scripts.
    Basically, I want the left cell to, when clicked, go to NewCars.html, and the right cell to link to UsedCars.html. It is a table that I have configured to be clicked anywhere in the cell rather than just having to click the words to go to a link. The code is:
    <table width="100%" border="1">
      <tr>
        <td style="cursor:pointer;cursor:hand;" onClick="LinkTo()" width="50%" bgcolor="#C5B8B8"><h2 style="text-align: center">Shop New</h2></td>
        <td style="cursor:pointer;cursor:hand;" onClick="LinkTo()" width="50%" bgcolor="#C5B8B8"><h2 style="text-align: center">Shop Used</h2></td>
      </tr>=-
    </table>
    I have the LinkTo script set up, but I don't know how to add another LinkTo script that goes to a different page so that way the first LinkTo script for the"Shop New" cell takes you to the NewCars page, while the "Shop Used" cell takes you to the ShopUsed page.

  • Help setting up Applescript to process with a batch of files.

    Hello everyone!
    A couple of days ago I posted here about needing an Applescript to be able to parse large text files into smaller ones. A lovely contributor, twtwtw, helped me out and came up with this script:
    set f to choose file with prompt "Choose the file to parse."
    tell application "Finder"
        set fName to name of f
        -- the following line assumes that the file name has a three character extension, like '.txt'
        set foldName to text 1 thru -5 of fName
        set fold to (make new folder at (path to documents folder from user domain) with properties {name:foldName}) as text
    end tell
    set fp to open for access f
    set bigText to read fp
    close access fp
    set parsingText to "All Rights Reserved"
    set parsedList to tid(bigText, parsingText)
    -- the following line requires that the file name be exactly in the form "<prefix>_<suffix>" with only one underscore
    set {prefix, suffix} to tid(fName, "_")
    repeat with i from 1 to count of parsedList
        set newFName to prefix & "_a" & i & "_" & suffix
        set fp to open for access (fold & newFName) with write permission
        -- uncomment the following line if you need to overwrite old files, otherwise it will append
        -- set EOF of fp to 0
        write ((item i of parsedList & parsingText) as text) to fp
        close access fp
    end repeat
    on tid(input, delim)
        -- a subroutine to handle text item delimiters. Useful tool, but so danged wordy.--
        set {oldTID, my text item delimiters} to {my text item delimiters, delim}
        if class of input is list then
            set output to input as text
        else
            set output to text items of input
        end if
        set my text item delimiters to oldTID
        return output
    end tid
    It turns out however, that I have about 500 of these large files that need parsing, so I was wondering if there might be a way to modify the script by allowing more than one input file, so that it would repeat the parsing action for all input files passed to it.
    Can anyone help?

    try this:
    set f to choose folder with prompt "Choose the root folder containing your files."
    traverseFolder(f)
    on traverseFolder(fold)
         tell application "System Events"
             set containedItems to every disk item of fold whose visible is true
             repeat with thisItem in containedItems
                   if class of thisItem is folder then
                       my traverseFolder(thisItem)
                   else if type identifier of thisItem contains "plain-text" then
                       my processFile(thisItem, fold)
                   end if
             end repeat
         end tell
    end traverseFolder
    on processFile(thisFile, itsFolder)
         tell application "System Events"
             set fName to name of thisFile

    I changed to system events for efficiency reasons (the Finder can get bogged down with too much scripting).  the only place you might run into issues is line 11, where it says else if type identifier of thisItem….  that might miss files if they have odd type identifiers (though it should get most plain-text files).  I only put that if statement in there to keep from processing spurious files that might be in the folders - you can replace that whole line with a simple else if you find it's gumming up the works.

  • Help setting up Windows on new Mac Pro

    Hi all, Just tried to set up Windows xp on this new machine 2 x 2.66 Ghz Dual Core, and after going through bootcamp set up I keep getting a windows set up screen that says to press enter to continue. I do this and nothing happens. I press the alternative keys and nothing happens. I have tried installing also a few programs through the drive and not sure if this is getting hung up but I have had to install them through my laptop connected to a firewire.
    I had no problem installing bootcamp and windows on my laptop.
    Any ideas here.

  • 10.6.1 clients with  10.5.8 server -- slow connections/lost delegate

    Because of timing, I've yet to upgrade my 10.5.8 server to 10.6.1 server.
    However, we've updated a number of clients here to 10.6.1
    For many clients, they are finding that iCal is occasionally dumping their delegates.
    They can readd them, but after a couple of more days, the delegates will get dumped again. It seems like if I add specific calendars to my list of delegates it's more obvious (so I don't necessarily know if the problem is with clients with really large calendars...)
    I've filed bugs on this with Apple, but I'm wondering if anybody else has seen this and come up with a solution yet.
    (I have plans to update my server in the next few weeks -- if somebody has seen this problem and has resolved it after they updated their server, let me know that as maybe I can accelerate my timetable for this upgrade....)
    Thanks!

    I just purchased a new macbook pro 13" w/Snow Leopard pre-installed and I am experiencing the exact same issue. I purchased a regular macbook for my wife (at the same time, about a week ago), and I was able to set up her e-mail account without any problems (same e-mail hosting provider as mine).
    My e-mail account/settings work fine on my iPhone, as well as another Windows computer (yes, I have tried deleting com.apple.mail.plist and starting over).
    ***? I paid a premium for the macbook pro, assumably for better construction, performance, and ease of use. I did not expect to pay to be a beta tester.

  • Windows 7 client can't connect to Server 2008 R2 Print Server VM (ESXi 5.5)

    I have an issue today that is driving me bonkers.
    I recently came on-board to a company in my area as the system administrator and this network has everything and the kitchen sink wrong with the network layout, probably the worst I've seen and I'm slowly but surely fixing it day by day.....
    Well today I decided I was going to spin up another VM from a template and make a Print Server, seems harmless right? --- I thought so too, added all of the printers to the server and did test pages, all was dandy, but then I tried to add the printers to
    clients and other server and the real fun has begun, I'm truly perplexed now...
    I added a VM to my esxi 5.5 cluster at work that is a 2008 R2 server with only print management on it. I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via
    DNS. I can test printers directly from the print server successfully printing out test pages however whenever I try to map printers you know from the directory in 'devices and printers' from any of the Windows 7 clients or any of the other 2003/2008 servers
    I get the classical "Windows cannot connect please check the network connection and make sure sure the printer is turned on". I disabled the windows firewall and I made the point to print GPO set to disabled and still no luck. Again I can print to
    all of the printers internally inside of the VM (so I know it communicating to all of the printers), I just can't connect to the printers listed in the directory on any of external desktop/client, it's like so annoying. spent about 6 hours until my brain just
    couldn't think anymore, was about to go BS on the VM.
    The only thing I can think of, as I was driving home, is that there is a GPO on one of the DC that has a desginated print server policy set. But prior to last week the forest leve was 2000 and now it's 2003. I just don't know Server 2000 enough to know if GPO's
    worked in the same way they do in 2003.
    Right now printers are connected to other servers in a ad hoc mentality it seems, there has never been a true print server.
    Anyone ever have this problem before?
    I'm truly puzzled...

    Hi Mid.Hudson-IT,
    Before we begin ,we should ensure we have configured the printer server correctly .
    Here is a link for reference of configuring the printer server .
    Print server role: Configuring a print server
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775791(v=ws.10).aspx
    "I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via DNS"
    From this sentence ,I can`t figure out whether you have tried to ping the server both with the IP adress and name adress from the client ?
    If we can ping the print server from the client,we can ensure the connection to the printer server is good .
    Then we can try to install the printer driver directly to have a check .In the adress bar of Windows Explorer ,input "\\server name \the printer name"
    If we cannot ping the print server ,we should troubleshoot the network issue firstly.
    We also can check the event viewer for more information to troubleshoot this issue .
    Best regards

  • Why won't a Windows 7 client connect to my web server?

    I've got 5 Mac clients that can connect to my Snow Leopard server. They use file sharing, iCal, and web services.
    We're trying to put a Windows 7 client on the network to use just file sharing and web services. Unfortunately, I can't get the Windows client to connect to the server at all.
    We're using an Airport Extreme as a local network router. All devices are successfully connecting to this device.
    When I try to access web services on the server using the Windows 7 client, I get an error message that the server is inaccessible.
    Anyone know what might be different about how the Windows device is accessing the server vs how the Mac devices are?

    How are you trying to connect to it? Just typing in its web address in a browser?
    Is your DNS configured correctly?

  • I need to help set up my parents laptop with a second iTunes account then sync an iPad and shuffle

    It's post Christmas and I'd like to help my parents by setting up my dad onto itunes ( has his own apple ID already ) as he just got an iPad    Thing is, the laptop has moms iTunes already.  I need to find a tutorial on how to do the second iTunes account.  We don't need to share files as both want to control own purchases and own playlists.  On dads account we need to add a shuffle.
    Is it simple? As in once I download iTunes again, I log out mom and log in dad .
    How Can this be done?
    Thanks.

    Hello Miss,
    To set up a new Windows user account, if it is Windows 7, go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > Add or Remove User Accounts > Create New Account.
    The old laptop is probably on Windows XP, so the menus may look a little different.
    Once they each have their own Windows user account, they can each work with their own iTunes library, and all content will be independently managed.  That should avoid snarls and demerits in the coming year.

  • Help setting up windows auth for lighttpd/ldap etc

    I'm running a server on my office that I only have accessible to people in our workgroup. I'd like to set it up to authenticate into our windows domain for ease of password management. I havent been able to get ldap working..and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction? most of the how-tos I find online are for setting up ldap for user account authentication. I dont need the users to be able to log into the box at all..just webserver.
    my company uses secure ldap and I have the needed certificates, though I cant seem to get basic ldap queries working so I must be setting something up wrong. I'm open to using other authentication methods than ldap as I just need to auth into lighttpd.
    Here's basically what I want to do:
    Specify a list of users that are allowed to access the page.
    If the users are in the allowed list, query the windows domain controller to validate their username/password.
    thats it. nothing really fancy or complex. is ldap the best way to do this or kerberos, etc..? I would even be willing to switch to apache if that would simplify things.
    any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Need help setting up a file sharing with VISTA

    Hi,
    Can somebody help me with setting up a connection to a Windows Vista computer. I followed all the instructions from this forum but still it doesn't work.
    Here is what I'm doing:
    1) Sharing -> File Sharing -> enabled
    2) Sharing -> Options -> activating SMB
    3) Network -> Options -> WINS -> "WORKGROUP"
    4) Network -> Options -> 802.1X -> activating 802.1X
    Under Sharing I see a lable which tells me that Windows user can access my computer via the address smb://x.x.x.x
    In Windows this address doesn't work and I cannot see my Mac computer nor can I see the windows computer on the mac.
    It worked so well with TIGER.
    Do you have set the DHCP to automatic address on both, Mac and windows or do you use a static ip address?

    In windows when you do "map network drive" you need to enter "\\server\share" (without quotes).
    In Vista, go to the Windows Button > Computer. The "map network drive" option is in the bar in the top of the window. You may need to enlarge the window or click on the little expand arrow to see it.
    smb://server is used when you're connecting to a windows share from the MacOS.
