Help sharing playlists

I make a lot of playlist compilations that I like to share with others.  This is my music, not music  purchased from the iTunes store. I set up the colums to show song title, artist and album (the album is what I name my compilation). When I send my compilations to others (I use wetransfer.com) they run into trouble when importing to their iTunes. Specifically, within the playlist some of the artists appear but some don't. Same thing with the album.  Sometimes it apears and sometimes it doesn't.  When I set up my playist I go to get info and check that the songs are part of a compilation.  They appear just fine on my computer and on my ipod, but not when I send them and people try to import into iTunes. Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Need help with sharing - Can't see shared playlist

I have my songs on a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit computer. I turned on home sharing and selected a playlist to be shared. I'm trying access the shared content on a Windows XP and a Vista machine, but I cannot see the shared playlist. The Vista machine can see the shared content from the XP machine though. For a brief moment, I saw the shared playlist on the Vista machine, but when I clicked on it, there was nothing there. Then it disappeared. All 3 computers have been on for hours with iTunes running. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with Windows 7. Maybe there's some network setting I need to change. I can access files on my Windows 7 machine from the XP machine. Same with the Vista machine. So the home network seems to be working fine. Thanks in advance.

I've narrowed it down to Windows 7's firewall. When I disable the firewall on my Windows 7 machine, I can access the shared content. When I enable the firewall, sharing immediately stops working. I checked to confirm that iTunes is on the allowed list of Windows Firewall.

  • Slow display of shared playlists?

I stream Music and TV show playlists from my Mac to the Apple TV (connected via 802.11n, the Mac is GigE). I'm also syncing movies from another Mac.
When I go view the shared playlists initially, the Apple TV says "no playlists." After a few minutes, it displays the shows/episodes/playlists. This is true for both the music library (which is very large, > 250GB) and the TV shows (small, maybe 40 episodes).
Does anyone else see this problem? It doesn't seem to be size-related, because it happens on small and large lists.
Rebooting doesn't help...and diagnostics shows that everything is OK.
    Any ideas?

Not sure I fully understand your problem, but with secondary (streaming only) libraries the tv needs to load them before it can use them unlike the synced library which is written to the tv during the sync process and is available at all times. Each time you switch libraries to a secondary library that library needs to load over your network.
The size does matter although maybe not as you might imagine, the library file is actually a small database file, it's not the content itself, although essentially it's a long list of your content. A library file with 100 movies occupying say 100GB will be considerably smaller than a library with 1000 tunes occupying say 3 GB.

  • Users automatically remount my shared playlist when I launch iTunes?

I share my music here at work and I think it's fun to see how many people are listening, because I share a different playlist every day. Lately however, I've been noticing that as soon as I launch iTunes, even if I check immediately, there are always 2 users logged on to my shared music right away. I'm pretty sure it's automated because I can quit and restart iTunes multiple times and there are always 2 users connected.
Does anyone know what might be causing this? My theory is that someone found a third-party app that automatically remounts my shared music on their iTunes whenever I launch my iTunes. Other than that, could it be some kind of monitoring that the IS department at my work is doing? This one has really got me baffled. Thanks for your help.

No, because when you launch iTunes, you can see available shared playlists, but it doesn't automatically connect to them. You have to click on a shared playlist to connect to it, (there are usually 8-16 of them to choose from here) and then there is a little eject symbol next to it once you have connected. There is no way to automatically connect to them when you launch iTunes. Anybody else?

  • Delete Shared Playlist?

I've got a weird shared Playlist on my iPod. It's password protected. I don't believe I put it there. I'm thinking it may have been on a computer I plugged the iPod in to charge on? Anyway, how can I get rid of this thing? It's annoying. None of my passwords are working...does that mean it's someone else's password? What gives?

Go to the EDIT menu, and select PREFERENCES. Then click the SHARING tab, and remove the check from 'Look for shared libraries' checkbox.
    See if that helps.
    Cheers!

  • Specific Music Files Not Playing Using Shared Playlists

I have over 3600 music files in my collection, and of those, about 44 will not play using the shared playlist on other machines. There is nothing between the files that is common that I can decipher. Some are *.m4a files, some are *.mp3 files. However, all will play in iTunes on the host machine and will play fine on the myriad of iPods that I have. If an attempt to play is made, the song information comes up in the heading on iTunes (song name, duration, album, etc...), but the song never starts playing. Any help or insight would be most appreciated.

    Hi
What happens when an agent puts a caller on hold is nothing to do with the UCCX server, prompts on the UCCX server, etc...
What is played is controlled by the 'User Hold Network Source' configured on the agent's line, handset, device pool etc; and which MoH server it is played from is determined by the MRGL assigned to the 'listening' device (e.g. gateway typically).

  • Sharing playlist - how do I maintaining track order across the network

When I listen to the shared playlists on our local network at work, my Itunes automatically arranges the playlists into alpha order by artist. Can I change my settings so that the list is played in the order by which the person created it?
And how do I make sure that when others play my shared list, it stays in the right order?

It sounds like you are doing the correct labeling but that is the only way to change the display order in iTunes in the general library.  Remember all the album names will have to have the identical name in order for the disc number to have an effect.  Even tiny differences can be big, and album labels coming from Gracenote can be inconsistent.  Make sure you don't have something like "No. 1" and No 2"
I have never had this issue with ripped CDs but have had other tracks which were problematic.
Check this Aug. 2008 post by turingtest2 about temporarily changing labels - https://discussions.apple.com/message/7904806#7904806  -  This often works but I have had cases where tracks grouped when a letter was added but ungrouped when it was removed again.
If they are mp3 files try changing the ID3 tag version which may cause iTunes to re-write the tags and clear up inconsistencies.  I use iTunes 7.5 (yes, from 2007) so I can't tell you where this is in later versions.
I had one case of really stubborn grouping.  The tracks would re-group in ways that didn't make sense when I changed metadata.  Without going into detail, I deleted the tracks completely from iTunes, then re-added the files and they all grouped correctly.

  • Can't see my shared playlist in store anymore!

I spent many hours putting together a shared playlist of 50 sailing songs for the iTunes Store. I used to be able to see a link to this in my Account info. but no longer. Also, I can't seem to find it anymore in the store doing a search for "Top 50 Sailing Songs". Where did it go? I hope I don't have to do it over....!

We now have the same problem. From our iMac we can see our PC's iTunes library, but cannot load it; the progress bar runs indefinitely. The PC, however, can see the iTunes library on the iMac. This used to work.

  • Create a shared playlist between iTunes accounts?

Can you create a shared playlist between 2 iTunes accounts? It would be easier if I could copy songs from one account to the other. However, when I am on the MBP and open the shared account on the iMac, I can see and play the iMac music from the MBP, but I can't seem to be able to transfer songs.

try the suggestions in this support article.

  • Sharing playlists at iTunes Store?

    Hi guys
I need to check out my understanding is correct.  I  believe that I can show my playlists online.
My target is to allow friends to see my recommendations for tunes by publishing a playlist and  I am not asking about sharing playlists at home or on a network.
Using iTunes 10.7, I followed the suggested procedure and I have produced a couple of playlists which I believe have published them online.
I understand I am meant to go to part of the iTunes Store and find 'playlsts' but I just can't see the correct link to show me my Playlists and also other people's playlists.
Can someone explain where they are shown ?
p.s. If you want to gift you get shown the total price before proceeding?
    Thanks in advance
    Pete

What exactly are you basing your assumptions on?  Not implying you are wrong, I've just never heard of this.

  • Is it possible to sync a home sharing playlist to iPhone / iPad?

The issue:  My children each have PC laptops which they sync iPhones to, they each have a music collection on their own laptops.  I imported their playlist to my host machine and using Home Sharing I assumed I could sync their iPhones using their laptops to avoid having multiple music folders on each laptop and my host.  I would have thought that was part of the point of home sharing so I don't have to push music libraries to each computer when we get new music?  I am not wanting to have their devices to sync to my host machine as it's in my home office and I prefer not to have them in there on my computer all the time.
Or am I going about this totally wrong?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi judATL,
Unless I'm sorely mistaken, if you have your iCloud account set up on the new phone, and when you hook up that new phone to iTunes, if everything is set as I will indicate below, the phone should sync with iCloud automatically, and iCloud should push those contacts to your Mac. It will comingle your contacts with the ones on the new phone, because it will be Contacts in the same iCloud account. If that's OK with you, then do the following:
    1.     Make sure your iCloud ID is signed onto the new phone
    2.     Make sure that Contacts is checked to sync in the iCloud options on the phone - Settings>iCloud>Contacts (checked)
    3.      Go into iTunes on your Mac and select the option to Prevent Automatic Sync under Preferences>Devices:
    4.      Hook up the new phone to iTunes and click on the Device when it shows up (DON'T SYNC just yet).
    5.     Click on the Info Tab in the Device Profile, and make sure it says the following for Contacts (click on the image below to make it big enough to read - you may need to double-click):
    6.     Make sure both your other iPhone and your Mac have Contacts checked in iCloud
Give it a little time for iCloud to retrieve and push the Contacts to your other phone and your Mac, and for it to retrieve and push your existing Contacts to your new phone. If it were me, I would wait for a couple of hours. Probably totally unnecessary to wait that long, but I don't like to make myself crazy by checking something every 2 seconds....
Once you know the Contacts have been pushed to iCloud and your other devices and your Mac, you can then sync the new phone to your iTunes account. Be sure to set up the Profile pages as you want for this new phone before syncing. As Phil indicated, once you do the sync, everything will be replaced with what is in your iTunes library (with the exception, in this case, of Contacts, which is being sync'd via iCloud).
Hope that helps! Post back with any questions!

  • Help sharing music on my Linkstation Pro

    Hi all,
I've got a problem sharing my music that I thought you may be able to help me with.
I've got a Buffalo Linkstation Pro with all my music on. I've enabled Home Sharing in iTunes. Down the left hand side of the software I can see (under Shared) my music on my Linkstation. I can play the music within iTunes.
I also want to be able to access the music from my iPod on my iPhone. If I go to the iPod app and I can see a library under my name full of playlists that are also in the left hand pane of iTunes. How do I get access to all the songs under the Shared (Linkstation) folder of iTunes on my iphones ipod app?
    Is this possible?
I don't want to have to copy everything from the linkstation to my 'music library' in order to see it as this would be duplicating my entire music collection.
I'd really appreciate some pointers on this
Many thanks for any help you can give me

From what I can recall reading you can't update an iPod with music from a shared folder.
This article describes the methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Just to summarise what's in the link above:
Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries.
Method two is to set your preferences so that either one or both iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library: Loading songs onto iPod automatically
Another option when using a single library is to set one or both of the iPods to manual update: Managing content manually on iPod

  • Shared Playlist Problem!

  • Home Sharing playlists with no content

I have a question about home sharing.  In iTunes I have enabled home sharing, and am sharing my entire library.  On my iPad I open Music and then click More.  Under sharing I see my shared library and select it.  Under the Playlists, I can see all of my playlists and they show number of songs/items in the playlist.  When I tap the playlist there is no content.  Does anyone know what would cause this behavior?

    Derek,
Recreating your iTunes Library and playlists, as detailed in the article linked below, may help to get playlists to display properly.
