HELP: Shift-left arrow key shortcut

I've got a weird problem that started sometime recently on my MacBook Pro. When I press Shift and left arrow key it is "hiding or showing all open windows." I want to change this back to what it used to be: "extend text selection one character to the left (*)".
I went to the the System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts but I could not find Shift-left arrow key listed anywhere in there.
Can anyone help me? This is driving me crazy.

Hi,
I spent some time finding an App that had the "Orignal Action" of Backspacing the Highlighting.
Word (2204) seems to have it (TextEdit didn't)
I have Word but don't use it much.
I did find this:-
Looking at the one on display I go to item 3 before getting lost
Hope it give you some clues.
The Print Instructions may help to see what is listed and possibly Set.
Print a list of shortcut keys
1. On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Macros.
2. On the Macros in pop-up menu, click Word commands.
3. In the Macro name box, click ListCommands.
4. Click Run.
5. In the List Commands dialog box, click Current menu and keyboard settings, and then click OK.
6. On the File menu, click Print.
Note If you made changes to shortcut key assignments, the changes are included in the printed list of shortcut keys. Shortcut keys you assigned to macros are not included.

  • How to Disable the Slow Minimize which happens by using Shift & Left Arrow

How do I disable the minimize effect that happens when I use shift and the left arrow key? I am totally annoyed by this feature. When I want to select text using the keyboard it slooooowly minimized my current window instead of selecting the text. Anybody? Thanks in advance!

Btw, for those who hate the "Browser Back Key" as I do. Here is how to disable it. Wjli2 mentioned the Thinkvantage keyboard customiser, thanks, I found the details. Where to get the ThinkVantage Keyboard Customiser?http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-44185.html How do I install it?Note, after downloading the exe, it does not install the app yet. It just extracts it. After the app gets extracted, go to the folder where you have it, and run the setup. Then, reboot your laptop. How do I disable the Browser Back Key?Go to your Start menu,ThinkVantage,Keyboard Customiser Utility,Key sensitivity tab, uncheck Enable Browser Keys I wish I knew how to attach a print screen. • Left arrow key -- probably a stupid question.

In some applications my left arrow key doesn't work. I've noticed it most in Word for mac, but I know it has happened elsewere, too. And in safari the left arrow key tabs often functions like tab. I'm new to Mac (and just getting used to fn + delete to delete forward). Is this another key combination thing I'm missing? I've discovered using Word that fn + <-- is "home," and that works just fine.
    Thanks!

I have this exact same problem. Has anyone found a fix. I called Apple Care and they said it was not a hardware problem, as this left arrow key problem only happens in Word. They also could not find a fix to the problem and, of course, referred me to Microsoft. I had already spoken with Microsoft and they, of course, referred me to Apple. I am desperately trying to a fix, as I use Word to write upwards of 100 page reports and not being able to use the left arrow key is a nightmare.
    Please someone help.

  • Left arrow key does not go back one character at a time

on my key pad, I cannot backup "over" characters one space at a time  I am not looking to DELETE, merly to backup one character at a time.  I know I can use the function key along with the arrow key for word at a time jump.  I can jump one character to the right by pushing that key but I cannot do that with my left arrow key.  slight annoyance, but I swear it worked before. . .

The arrow to open the tab history of the Back and Forward buttons has been removed in Firefox 4 and later.
Use one of these methods to open the tab history list:
    * Right click on the Back or Forward button
    * Hold down the left mouse button on the enabled Back or Forward button until the list opens
You can look at this extension:
    * Backward Forward History Dropdown: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/backforedrop/

  • Left Arrow Key Closes during Rename

Has anybody else noticed sometimes that when you're renaming a file and using the left arrow key to move through the text, the Finder closes the editability of that file name? As you proceed to use the left arrow key, it would close subfolder after subfolder (if you're in list view). It' pretty annoying for power-users since I'm used to renaming file after file without using the mouse. I navigate with arrow keys a lot.

Yes, I get this too, it's really annoying, I'm going to look for a way to stop the left arrow closing the folder, maybe it's in the keyboard short cuts in system settings, and just needs removing. So annoying, especially for newbies.
    Bill.

  • Removal of Alt + Shift + Left Arrow (goto prev document)

Adobe Reader 9 has removed this option. The option Shift + Left Arrow does work as long as you have not changed pages in the current document.
I still use Acrobat version 7 and find that many of our Cds no longer work properly. I need the Alt + Shift + Left Arrow for compatability reasons and because often I change page in the current document and then want to go back to the page I was looking at in the previous document.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Hello -- Has there been any resolution / update re the removal of Alt + Shift + Left Arrow [go to previous document] option?
I created thousands of links in multiple pdf documents in Acrobat V8 for readers who now have Reader 9 and can't navigate them... this is a disaster!
How can Adobe software functionality go backwards like this?

  • How to select multiple cells on a spreadsheet (online diary) without click and drag or shift and arrow keys as iPad has neither :(

Hey guys really annoyed as I got my I pad with main reason of being able to update my online diary which is basically a spreadsheet, but I can't select more than one cell to book out a time slot, dragging just tees up the copy function and without arrow keys cannot shift and highlight, coming from windows wandering if this function is done another way on macs?  Any help would be appreciated as I'm thinking only way is to get the wireless keyboard which has arrow keys but kind of defeats the point of iPad.
    Thanks in advance ;)

I guess I should state how much of a newbie I am.
I did take a summer Java course at a community college this summer and I have some other programming experience (mostly Matlab).
The course covered a lot of the language but it wasn't exhaustive. We covered (in no particular order) Arrays, Interfaces, overloading, inheritance, loops, actionlisteners, Layout managers, exceptions (a little) One thing that we really didn't get into were packages.
We did some GUI design, but not a whole lot.
The programming that I do with Matlab is very similar to C. (i.e. highly procedural not Object Oriented) so I think that's where some of my stumbling blocks are. I feel pretty comfortable reading Java code and using the API (sort of) but I didn't even know that 2D intersections existed.
I have just started using eclipse last week. My previous coding was just done with textpad, so I am trying to get used to compiling code and building projects (and .jars) with an IDE.
Thank you for the tips. I am going to keep looking around and see what I can find.

  • In Dreamweaver CC code view, how do I reenable shift-control+arrow keys to select words?

In previous versions of Dreamweaver (for Windows but presumably for other operating systems as well) and in pretty much any other text editor (except maybe for vi/m but including the one I'm using to write this message in now). I can select characters using shift plus the arrow keys and select words by pressing shift-control plus the arrow keys. It seems you now have to use shift-alt to select words. I don't want to have to undo about 25 years of habit just for Dreamweaver.
Please say this is an easy setting I can uncheck somewhere! Thanks!

That is an issue that has come up a lot lately...
Make sure to add your voice to the others here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform and hopefully in the next release they'll put it back to normal.

  • Windows Key Arrow Keys Shortcut?

    Hello!
Installed Windows 10 a few days ago and the Win+Arrow shortcut was working but has stopped working. Both the Windows key and the arrow keys function independently and my Ease of Access Mouse settings are proper in terms of Aero Snapping windows and checkboxes
and stuff. Also I insured that Turn off Windows+x HotKeys in the Local Policy Editor wasn't enabled. I'm not sure if I'm just reporting this or asking for a solution or what, but I mean it'd be cool if I could arrange windows again. If anyone needs any
    other information just ask.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Snapping Windows with Win + Arrow keys worked on my test machines. Some folks have shared that it won’t work in the Windows 10 Technical Preview 9860 version. Even after a restart, it would came back and won’t work again after a while.
Another  thing is please make sure we have installed the additional updates after we update to Windows 10 Technical Preview 9860.
KB3010668 and KB3008956. Go to PC settings ->Update and Recovery -> Windows update, click check for updates and then install if available.
For the Windows keyboard shortcut not working properly, we have another thread here:
snap assist doesnt work on build 9860
By now there seems no workaround to resolve this issue. Please wait for the future builds.

  • Math in 'Crop Pages' dialog box fields & Arrow key shortcuts

I believe Acrobat is the only Adobe application i've used where you cannot do math in the dialog box fields. For example: In the crop pages dialog box, if the top value is set to '.25in' and I wanted to add '3p6' to that value, I cannot type '.25in + 3p6' like I could in InDesign or Illustrator. Adobe, you spoil us by letting us take advantage of this math feature in InDesign & Illustrator. My calculator has been getting a lot of attention lately.
Also, what happened to using the arrow keys to increment the values up and down (crop pages dialog)? I used the arrows all the time in acrobat 7. Please bring that back! Prepress departments around the world will thank you.

Not all of the listed email recipients on my contact form are receiving the inquiries.    Muse allows me to add several email addresses separated by a semi-colon (see below from Corey Wrote) but only one of the three addresses are receiving the contact form inquiries.
    Corey@Adobe wrote:
    Forms
We've added a new Form widget to the widget library.
You can easily configure the form to send the form submissions to multiple email addresses, and optionally redirect users to another page after submitting the form.
You can add and remove fields, and style the form as you would other Adobe Muse elements. You can independently style the various states of the form, and form fields to provide a compelling user experience, with visual cues for error states, empty states, and more.
Because Form processing requires server-side support, Adobe Muse forms are configured to work when published to Adobe Business Catalyst. If you make changes to your form and publish again, Adobe Muse will make the appropriate changes to your Adobe Business Catalyst forms.
Adobe Muse will safeguard data when redesigning your Adobe Business Catalyst forms
If a field with no data submitted is removed, it will be deleted from the database.
If a field that has submitted data is removed, it will be preserved in the database, but can be deleted from the Adobe Business Catalyst admin console if desired.

  • My LEFT arrow key seems to be working all too well???

it just started today and MAN is it annoying as ****
ill be typing like this and my *blinking line* will start to go left suddenly until its at the end of the box, and i literally have to smack, my keys to get it to stop, its never happened before and i've spilt NOTHING to make the keys sticky at all in that area!!!

  • TS1381 My left arrow does not work on my macbook pro(model A1226).  I have reset nvram, performed a safe boot, pulled the cache to desktop, replaced .globalpreference.plist, test all other keys with keyboard view (all others work)  - HELP!!

My left arrow does not work on my macbook pro(model A1226).
I have reset nvram, performed a safe boot, pulled the cache to desktop, replaced .globalpreference.plist, & tested all other keys with "keyboard viewer" (all other keys work except for the arrow).
In addition, I have gone thru all the recommended checks with universal access and have booted from snow leopard dvd and the left arrow still does not work.
I have tried using the left arrow key in all of applications I use such as: excel, ms word, address book, calendar, iphoto, terminal, & highlighting an icon and using the arrows to move to another selected icon.
Here is the kicker!  In addition, I purchased a logitech solar bluetooth keyboard and the arrows work fine with my ipad but do not work when paired with the macbook pro. All other keys work fine on the macbook pro using the bluetooth keyboard.
I believe this says that the problem is not in my macbook pro keyboard. So where can it be?
Can anyone think of any other rabbit holes I can search?
    thanks and regards
    vats3

I would also like to add that I've reverted the two cd drive and hard drive mods I did and the laptop is back to factory hardware and there is 0 corrosion or mold visible.

  • Left- and right arrow key out of order

    Hi,
I'm afraid to need your help again. My left and right arrow keys doesn't work as they're supposed to. While can neither navigate through my desktop icons nor the buttons in any dialog nor the text I'm just writing. The cursor stops blinking as soon as I press one of these keys so the system recognizes the key press but the cursor doesn't move. Showkey returns the keycodes 105 left and 106 for the right arrow key.
While logging in with LXDM im able to navigate back and foth while entering my password as well as the keys work properly in tty. It seems to be only LXDE, where the keys are not working.
Furthermore my function keys like mute, volume up and down and so on aren't working too. I don't know if both errors are relatet to another.
Maybe anyone has an idea what I might do to fix this?

no, you have to know it.
i meant: when you login with lxdm, do you have a choice between lxde-session and openbox-session (or sth similar) because there's a difference how openbox gets started and which config files are parsed.
It's an lxde-session. And LXDE uses openbox-lxde as displaymanager.

The part of the rc.xml I posted beforehand is the only one in that file that is tagged with <keyboard> and there is no binding for the left or right arrow key. There are some in combination with the control or shift key but that shouldn't do anything regarding my problem.

    Absolutely.
Steff435 wrote:What do you mean with "the text I'm just typing"? You can't move the text cursor in the textbox in your browser using the keys?
    Yes, exactly.
Steff432 wrote:I don't use lxdm, but I guess that doesn't use the default Gtk text entry widget, while most Gtk-based browsers as far as I know do, so it might be related to Gtk in some way. Or do you use a Qt browser? Have you tried the keys in non-Gtk software?
I use firefox which is, as far as I know, Gtk-based. But I installed QupZilla and gabe it a try. Unfortunatelly the same error shows up there.
I don't know if I'm right but lxde should be gtk-based itself and running a non-Gtk software in gtk-based lxde would show up the same gtk-errors to, wouldn't it? So eventually I'd have to try a non-Gtk software in a non-Gtk desktop environment in order to check whether the error doesn't show up under non-gtk software?
