Help: Shuffle dead

When I connect shuffle to my desktop computer, nothing happens. The computer won't recognize my ipod shuffle. I tried to use ipod updater to reset the shuffle, but still the updater couldn't recognize the shuffle so i couldn't reset it.
and the worst part is the warranty for my shuffle expired one month ago. Is there anything i can do to save the shuffle?
i'm using WindowsXP.
Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Steps to save the Shuffle? Quien sabe? There are a lot of different things to try
a. Start by running completely through the "Five R's"; that's always a starting point, but things don't end there. Do it all with fresh downloads of iTunes and iPod Updaters as required.
Read and follow EXACTLY the steps involved in Restoring from the iPod Updater. It's critical to do things in the proper order and from the right starting conditions.
(ii) Plug the Shuffle in with the power/slide switch to ON (any position). If no mounting after a while, manipulate, e.g., triple-click the Play/Pause, then turn the power OFF for 5 seconds or so,then back ON.
b. Go through all of the troubleshooting steps on the iPod Shuffle Support Page that address Windoze/iTunes not seeing your Shuffle
c. Try Restoring on a different platform. Do it on a Mac if at all possible (sorry, but that will work a fair amount of the time ..... it even works in reverse on some occasions).
d. Try letting it sit in a charging source for an extended period of time, if that hasn't already occurred, to eliminate low battery as much as you can. You might see it suddenly mount.
e. There's more besides. It involves reading through the material accessed via the iPod Shuffle Support Page and combing through these forums for solutions which have worked for others. Success can't be guaranteed, so good luck and happy hunting!

  • Shuffle dead after recharge Help!!!

    Today as usual i connected my shuffle to my laptop and refilled using autofill the shuffle worked correctly,ie loaded songs and charged fully.
    After removing the shuffle from my computer,plugged in earphones,no music. green light comes on for a few seconds then goes out.
    I have tried update and restore to no effect.I did notice the shuffle was warmer than usual when disconnected from the usb port.
    Any help would be appreciated

    Mark,
    Whenever my Shuffle has been paused for any extended period (hours), when I push the Pause button to start playing, in my case audiobooks, the status light lights for several seconds and then goes out and nothing more happens. But, if I push it a second time the Shuffle starts to play. See if that's the case with your Shuffle.

  • Shuffle dead (again)

    My ipod shuffle is showing no status lights, battery or otherwise.
    I think that I left it on by mistake after a run last night. When I saw the switch in the on (shuffle play) position I thought "Well I better plug it in because the battery is surely drained" When I plugged it in to the usb port to charge nothing happened. No orange light, no green light, nothing.
    I opened the ipod update utility to see if running it would help but it doesn't recognize it and neither does iTunes.
    This is my second shuffle, the last one stopped working after less than a month of use, so this is quite frustrating. Are these things really this delicate or am I just having extremely bad luck here?
    If anyone has any ideas on what I could try to revive this shuffle please let me know. I really don't want to exchange it for another one with Apple because I am not sure that the replacement would last any longer than this one did.

    Roger,
    Do you protect the Shuffle with a Sport Case when you run? I suspect the Shuffle is quite vulnerable to perspiration leaking in at the USB or headphone connections.
    Regarding your problem -- have you tried turning the Shuffle OFF for five (or so) seconds, and then back ON -- that often brings my Shuffle back from the dead.

  • Help- Shuffle shows up on desktop, but not in iTunes

    So i guess i am luckier than some that it shows up at all, but it would be nice if it could show up in itunes. I also have a problem with the connection (usb) as it seems to disconnect itself without any movement. Any help would be much appreciated- Thanks, Andrew
    ps- i have a 1gig shuffle, ibook dual usb, osx 10.2.8
    and i got the ipod off ebay (am i screwed?)

    I guess it turns out that upon attempting to register my iPod Shuffle, Apple says that I have a counterfeit item. Here's their reply to my registration:
    "We regret to inform you that the serial number you have cited is recognized by our registration system as having the same format as a known series of counterfeit iPods. Please look closely to be certain that you have cited the serial number correctly. If not, please let us know the correct serial number of your product.
    Due to the incredible success of the iPod family of digital music players, a number of counterfeit devices have appeared on the market. Although they may bear Apple's name or logo, they are not manufactured or licensed by Apple.
    We would very much appreciate if you could send us a digital photo of your device by email.
    You should make a reservation and take your iPod to an Apple Store retail location to have it inspected at the Genius Bar, for the purpose of determining whether or not it is, in fact, a counterfeit product. To locate the nearest Apple Store and to make a reservation to see the Mac Genius, please visit <http://www.apple.com/retail>. If the Apple Store personnel conclude that the iPod is counterfeit, Apple will be unable to provide any kind of service or support for the product.
    Apple does not provide service or support for non-Apple products. We also suggest that you consult the vendor or reseller from which you obtained the product.

    Oh well, I guess I'm off the the Dispute Center of my paypal since this eBay seller used all the advertisement bearing Apple licenced product.

  • ActionScript 3 help, shuffling arrays: shuffling 3 cups.

    Hi, I'm having a problem with this file. It's meant to shuffle 3 cups but I get this error: TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.
    at cupsc_fla::MainTimeline/frame1().
    It was working in AS2 but I changed it around to get it to work for AS3 but now it won't work.
    Here's the code:
    import fl.transitions.Tween;
    import fl.transitions.easing.*;
    import flash.events.*;
    var posArray:Array = new Array(cup0.DisplayObject.x, cup1.DisplayObject.x, cup2.DisplayObject.x);
    move_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, pressBtn);
    shuffle = function (targetArray) {
    for (i=0; i<targetArray.length; i++) {
    var tmp = targetArray[i];
    var randomNum = Math.random(targetArray.length);
    targetArray[i] = targetArray[randomNum];
    targetArray[randomNum] = tmp;
    function pressBtn(e:Event) :void{
    shuffle(posArray);
    var tween0 = new Tween(cup0, "_x", Strong.easeIn, cup0.DisplayObject.x, posArray[0], 1.5, true);
    var tween1 = new Tween(cup1, "x", Strong.easeIn, cup1.DisplayObject.x, posArray[1], 1.5, true);
    var tween2 = new Tween(cup2, "x", Strong.easeIn, cup2.DisplayObject.x, posArray[2], 1.5, true);
    I'm stumped!

    There are a number of potential issues with the code as you show it.
    cup0.DisplayObject.x,  ??? what are these
    shuffle = function... change that to be written just like your pressBtn function
    Math.random(nothing goes in here)... should be Math.random()*targetArray.length, although you want to get an integer value out of it, not a decimal value
    As far as the 1010 error goes, go into your Flash Publish Settings and select the option to Permit Debugging.  That can help by adding the line number of the offending code to the error message.

    Just curious. IF I bought my IP through ATT and I had a major problem that required replacement, could I go to either an ATT store or an Apple store? Or would I be restricted?
    I did order mine directly from att.com.

  • Technical help with dead new macbook

    Ok so my 9mth old macbook gave up the ghost for no apparent reason a week and a half ago. I have spoken to MacSupport and they have diagnosed a dead hard drive so suggest sending it in for repair. I've had a look on this forum and it seems that they will replace the hard drive but not recover the data from it for me. Is this correct? Where can I find a statement to that effect?
    Also, I have heard that as a user, I can replace the hard drive myself without voiding my warranty? Again, where can I find the literature to support this?
    This is our very first ever Mac and we want to do the right thing...and we just want our computer to be working again!
    Thanks for your help.

    Apple is not in the data recovery business, because of the potential liability. In your Apple License (which you still might have), you can find it in the Limitation of Liability clause, which states that Apple will replace, not repair, a drive.

  • Help - completely dead...

    Hi all -
    OK, here's the scoop: - I noticed a lot of gunk spilling out of the vents along my ole salad dish's bottom rim... naturally I thought I'd get rid of it, so I turned it over, unscrewed the bottom and took the main body apart, being careful not to disrupt any cables or connectors or anything at all, really.
    Having removed what looked like a dead rabbit from its intestines, I gently put the bottom part back in place, tightened the screws, reattached the outer bottom shield and plugged back in - hit the power button - and experienced absolutely nothing happening!
    - opened it again to see if, contrary to what I thought, I had messed with anything but it looks perfectly allright, except, it's completely and utterly dead. No response to pushing the power button...
    So it's an oooold machine, and probably due for a visit to the shop (the DVD drive is in its last throes I guess, and I'd like to continue using it for watching the odd movie - and for my daughter to, as well), but still, does anyone have advice for me that might help blow some life back in the ol' dawg again...?
    Thanks!
    Jesper W.

    Hey Jesper,
    I noticed a lot of gunk spilling out of the vents along my ole salad dish's bottom rim... naturally I thought I'd get rid of it, so I turned it over, unscrewed the bottom and took the main body apart, being careful not to disrupt any cables or connectors or anything at all, really.
    Having removed what looked like a dead rabbit from its intestines,
    So what you removed was a whole lot of fuzzy, furry stuff? I could see carpet, hair and such getting in there since the fan pulls air through those slots.
    There wasn't any brown goop in there?
    I gently put the bottom part back in place, tightened the screws, reattached the outer bottom shield and plugged back in - hit the power button - and experienced absolutely nothing happening!
    * opened it again to see if, contrary to what I thought, I had messed with anything but it looks perfectly allright, except, it's completely and utterly dead. No response to pushing the power button...
    When you take the bottom off of this iMac you break 2 heat transfer paths. Technically these must be refurbished with fresh thermal paste. The Torx screws must also be torqued to 17 in.Lbs. Neither of these would stop startup however.
    What probably happened is that the power cable, video connector or mass store cables came dislodged or loosened when you pulled it apart. This is easy to do since the routing of these and other cables is very exact. In particular the power lead and the mass store ribbon cable must be tucked up out of the way before the bottom is keyed and pressed back into place. That step is very difficult especially as to getting everything in exactly the right place and getting the bottom to seat correctly. If those cables aren't in the correct position they will place adverse pressure the logic board/connectors when they are put back together causing what you're seeing.
    Also my service manual doesn't show a blind connector on the logic board but I was almost positive that this 17" I took apart here had one. Misallignment can damage the pins on those.

  • Please help - shuffle has stopped updating play count & date last played

    All of a sudden these features have stopped working. (I've had this shuffle since January and it worked just fine till last week.) If I play a tune from iTunes on the computer, the play count & date are updated; but if I play a tune on the iPod, this information doesn't change as it used to. Can anyone help me out? I've already restored etc.

    I had a similar problem and was able to recover. I deleted all files on the iShuffle including the hidden ones. On Windows I killed the iPodservice and iTuneshelper processes. That allowed me to view the iShuffle memory in an Explorer window. Blow away all of the files and directories. (Be sure they are not hidden.) Pull the iShuffle out, launch iTunes (to restart the services - or reboot to play it safe), and plug the iShuffle back in.
    Hope this helps!

  • Help: Shuffle recognized/charges on PC, but will NOT WORK when ejected!

    Hello,
    My 2 year old shuffle suddenly doesn't work! I've tried the "five R's", used the Device Manager to reinstall the driver, or whatever, when it was plugged in, and restored it tons of times. The only thing I haven't done is completely uninstall/delete iTunes and reinstall, or used the original CD software for a restore.
    The iPod is recognized with no problems when plugged in; I can add and delete songs, and let it charge. But when I eject it and take it out nothing works, nothing at all!
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
    Thank you.

    Are you saying the iPod dies as soon as you remove it from any sort of external power source such as a USB connection to your PC?  If so, it's likely that the iPod's battery is dead and in need of replacement, especially since the iPod is an older 2G model that has been around for some time.

  • Help! Dead laptop and need to downgrade from 10.5, in particular, Mail

    My G4 1.67, barely coping with 10.5 has died. I am now existing on my 11 yr old 400Mhz sawtooth until I have the funds to buy a new machine.
    The HDD was rescued and is now hooked up to my Sawtooth (praise be to OSX flexibility in this regard)
    However, the machine is on impulse power, 1/4 that of my 6 year old laptop.
    As it has only 768MB RAM, even Tiger is a bit of a push, but livable. Leopard is not.
    I do have my old 10.4.5 image and want to bring it up to date.
    1. I have an iPhone, so could I use that to bring my Safari bookmarks up to date?
    2. Mail - how could I bring back to my Tiger world the current state of my Mail on Leopard?
    3. Is there anything else I would need to pull back (keychain?) or is it best to somehow pull the entire user account back in?
    Thanks in advance

    Unfortunately your 10.5 system will not run on your 400 Mhz G4.
    You can upgrade to 10.4.11 on it using the update here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html
    following these directions*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
    iTunes 9.2.1 for 10.4.11 may work better:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1056
    If not, buying a used or refurbished 867 Mhz or faster PowerPC Mac will allow you to use the Migration Assistatant to bring in data off your old 10.5 hard drive.
    Here's my FAQ on buying used or refurbished Macs*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/usedrefurbished.html
    Some tips from this user tip may help you move data back in, but only if you can bring it down a version:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350&tstart=10
    Lookup emlx converter to bring your Leopard e-mail down to Tiger, that may work. I haven't tried it.
