Help! Site screwed up on PC browsers

Hello all,
I recently created this website using Photoshop and
Dreamweaver (sliced like a samurai!) and all the pages look fine on
Safari, Firefox 3, and Opera on the Mac, but the "Closet" page
looks messed up using Firefox 3 on PC and the "News" page looks
screwed up on IE 6, despite having the same exact code as the
"Events & Parties" and "Shop" pages. What should I do?

Thanks!

Big problems on your pages, I'm afraid. Increase text size
(ctrl++) and see
what happens to them. Did you export this code from
Photoshop? Graphics
programs don't export the best code. Much better to save
image slices first
then reassemble them in tables or relatively positioned CSS
divisions in DW.
This is an excellent tutorial even if you use Illustrator or
Photoshop:
"Taking a Fireworks comp to a CSS-based layout in
Dreamweaver"

If this makes no sense to you, go back to basics and study
html and CSS code

Because I listened to Adobe earlier today about whither uninstalling Elements would affect Photoshop and Lightroom on my computer, Lightroom no longer sees Photoshop in the EDIT IN Menu of Lightroom. I found an article on the help site saying to delete the filecom.adobe.Photoshop.plist, which I looked for, its not there so it can't be deleted. The next step is to uninstall Photoshop and reinstall. This isn't an option because of all the plug-ins and modifications of the work space. Does any one have a better solution?

  • I have been trying to uninstall several extensions for firefox. Nothing currently on the help site has resolved it.

I have been trying to uninstall several extensions for firefox. I'm told by the Add-Ons window that these extensions will be uninstalled when I restart firefox, but they come back every time I restart. I've tried clearing the extensions cache from my firefox profile and it does not work. Following the steps in all of the active questions regarding this issue among other users have yielded no results. Nothing currently on the help site (which I've combed through for the last three hours) has helped.
Most of the extensions I'm now trying to uninstall are old ones that stopped functioning/being compatible with one of the more recent updates of firefox. The rest are toolbars I've never used because they're unsightly and clutter up my screen
    * What I wound up doing was installing the newest of the newest versions of firefox (it's at 5.0 or something now, I think). That just made all the plugins, add-ons, and extensions I wanted to get rid of obsolete and it auto-removed them on its own.

Do you guys have any suggestions for helpful sites to visit to get more information about anything to do with Macs. Like backing up, troubleshooting, learning more in depth explanations, etc... Thanks in advance.

Do you mean another one besides this one? I can say with great confidence that you won’t find any other site that’s better than this one for everything you described.

Do you have a wireless keyboard?  I am wondering if you are getting an erronious 'F1' being sent.  If yes to the wireless keyboard, then maybe a driver issue.  Or maybe faulty hardware.  Do you have another keyboard you could swap out?

  • I submitted a question on the help site and it hasn't shown up in my Dashboard

I was signed in , asked a question on the help site a couple days ago and the question still hasn't shown up in my Dashboard. Please tell me how to get it there and more importantly, how to avoid this in the future.

    Try:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
Are you saying that it is not listed here:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Is the computer signed into the same iTunes account that purchased the song?
Is it listd in your Purchases History? iTunes>Store>View Accountc>login>Purchase History?

When I run iMovie 09 and connect my camera I only see import at 'Full Resolution' without the added 1920x1080i.

    Hi, Sean5656.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Sometimes closing all applications in multitasking and power cycling the device can resolve the issue.  However, further troubleshooting may be needed.  Here are the best articles to help you troubleshoot this issue.

  • IWeb Site Appears Wonky in Other Browsers

    Good Morning!
I've built a site with iWeb '08 that looks great when viewed in Safari and Firefox on my Mac (www.stevemaxwell.ca), but looks wonky when viewed in IE in Windows Vista. It shows a different kind of wonkiness when viewed in IE in Windows XP, and still a different of wonkiness again when viewed in Firefox in Vista.
The trouble has to do with misaligned blocks of text, email buttons, and overlapping images.
What do I need to do when I build the site so it looks good in all browsers?
Thanks very much for your help!
    Steve

If you have a long text and in between images, it works somewhat better to make separate windows with part of the text then an image, then another text window, and so on. Some extra space between the text windows and images helps.
But windows users had better download Safari so that they don't have any problems viewing your pages.

  • .Mac Web'08 site not displaying correctly in browsers

Just published by first iWeb'08 designed web site.
    http://web.mac.com/chasandstephen
Have tested it in Safari 3, Firefox 2, Internet Explorer 7 all on both a Mac and a PC.
    What a *&%$#@ shambles.
After spending 4 weeks leaning iWeb'08 and designing this site, with the great help from all you guys:
    http://forums.mactalk.com.au/showthread.php?t=41976
    http://forums.mactalk.com.au/showthread.php?t=42801
The main problem seems to be text boxes not lining up correctly. Check out the "Links" and "Site Map" pages for the worst offenders. Also the text size has all so mysteriously changed on the Links page.
Any suggestions guys to what has gone badly wrong here?
Our families are hanging out for this.

yippee We have got it working. All the pages now display correctly, except in our windows based Firefox 2 and even then it is only the Welcome page that is the problem. All the text has shrunk and moved over to the far left and all the text on all the pages is slightly fuzzy. All other browsers on Mac and PC work OK.
The main problem was that the "Links" and "Site Map" pages were just one great big text box. After placing each section of text in a text box and aligning it all up, this did the trick. It also now loads faster. It seems by doing it this way iWeb'08 CSS is constrained far tighter.
I suppose what I have learnt from all this is that iWeb'08 is more akin to a Desktop Publishing program as opposed to a Word Processing program. I also have learnt to published first to a local folder and view it locally this way errors can be picked up and corrected quicker and easier.

  • Dreamweaver site displays horribly different in Browsers

    Hello,
I'm getting really frustrated and I'm hoping the DW community
can help me out. I'm trying to set up my first "real" website and I
finally settle on a layout that I like. The problem is that I'm
having a really bad time getting Firefox 2 to recognize my table BG
color. So far, the only browser that displays it perfect is Safari.
FF takes the page BG color and seems to overwrite the table BG, and
IE 7 seems to ignore the font color but at least recognizes the
tables BG should be different from the rest of the page.
I've tried internal css rules, external css rules, rules for
the whole table and rules for every single cell and FF 2 seems to
still ignore them. Also, IE7 seems to magnify my .gif at the top,
    making them look really garbled...
Any idea how to fix the IE image issue, or how to get FF2 to
stop ignoring the table BG color?
www.liberal-latte.com is the site if anyone want to try it
out in various browsers. I'm currently irked and dumbfounded =/
    Thanks,
*update* I've been playing more with DW, editing the table,
adding borders, and for some reason FF2 doesn't seem to understand
the border that I put around either. Saf and IE7 show it just as I
see it in DW, but FF2 draws a plain, ugly black border..... Why
does FF2 have such a hard time understanding what i am doing in
    DW...?

  • Get videos from my site to play on firefox browsers?

The videos from my site http://fightforfunny.com do not play on firefox browsers. They work for all browsers except firefox. The videos are hosted by amazon s3 in the mp4 format. I did this because I need the videos to be playable on mobile devices such as iPhone and Android devices. How can I make these videos work for all users on firefox browsers, using amazon s3 hosting. I cannot do a flash format because that would make the videos not work for mobile devices. Please help, thanks.

    That is a weird issue.<br />

  • Teachers sharing one dot mac with iWeb need help- sites are being lost

Sorry to be lengthy- Here's the question and issue first and then the background.
Question/Issue: Anyone know a way we can have multiple people (eventually 20 or so) with their own computers creating sites in iWeb and publishing them to a common dot mac account without wiping each other out?
Background:I am a teacher and at our school we have a single dot mac account. A few of us have been using iWeb (2 on iWeb 08 and 1 on iWeb 06) and posting our sites to dot mac with no problems. The iWeb 06 sites went to a folder under Web> Sites>iWeb in our dot-mac's iDisk; the iWeb 08 sites were directly under the Web>Sites folder. When sites were uploaded from different computers there was no problem (they all had unique names) and it worked great until this week.Even the 2 users both on iWeb 08 could send their sites to the iDisk and nothing would be deleted, just more site folders were added.
We are now all on iWeb 08 and so nothing goes into the folder on the dot-mac's iDisk under iWeb, they all go as unique sites- no problem I thought.
Our problem is now that when any one of us update our sites, it wipes out everyone else's site (since their site isn't on our computer). It didn't used to be that way 2 weeks ago !!! Could this be something new with the migration to mobile me (if it is, this really ***** for us)
I know a solution is to publish the sites to folders and then drag to the dot mac in sub-folders under Web>Sites instead of publish and each of us can have our own folder, but its a pain and not all of the teachers will be able to do this.
I think there is a feature in iWeb06 called personal domains, but I think we can only have 2, so not sure if this will help.
Does anyone know a way to set the defaults in the domain.sites2 file or in iWeb so it will use a sub-folder when loading up to dot mac? This way each of us can have our settings different and it will load for us automatically on the iDisk.
Does anyone know why this used to work and now it doesn't?
    Any other ideas- Help Please

    From my own experience.
When you publish to dotMac the index.html file in the root redirects to the top Site in the list of the iWeb domain file.
I use ca. 40 Sites in some 30 domain files. And most are customized after publishing. Plus a lot more irregular stuff.
iWeb remembers what Site in which domain was published last.
When I choose a different domain file, iWeb will create a new index.html file to redirect to the "new" Site.
As far as I could determine, none of the either published Sites are deleted. If iWeb did delete previous published Sites I would not change domain files.
In your case the following will happen. Every student publishes his/her Site(s). The last one published will be the default Site.
As long as no-one changes his/her Sitename or add a new Site at the top of the list, the default Site last published will be that.
Make sure everybody's Sitename is unique.
I use a custom index.html file in the root. So I have to pay attention that when I publish a new site, the custom index.html page is overwritten. I keep a copy of that index.html file in the root. I can replace the index.html file in case of emergency.
Does anyone know a way to set the defaults in the domain.sites2 file or in iWeb so it will use a sub-folder when loading up to dot mac? This way each of us can have our settings different and it will load for us automatically on the iDisk.
Don't look for hidden settings. If it was possible, it would be visible in the preferences. Accept the way iWeb/dotMac does its job. It wasn't designed to be used by multiple users with multiple computers and only one account. That should give you a hint.
All other problems are purely organizational. Personally I wouldn't trust multiple persons on one account. Give them their own account. If they mess up things they are responsible. Or find another solution.

  • Site won't open in browsers

My fledgling site will not open in Safari, nor in Firefox.
At first I got a 404 error: "Not Found. The requested URL / was not found on this server."
[Below this message was a plain line, and below the line was another message.]
"Apache/2.2 Server at www.mousenstein.com Port 80" [Their italics.]
I believed I resolved the problem when I discovered that my remote root-folder was incorrect; i.e., I was using a single forward slash "/" as the address instead of the correct address: "/www/", which I then corrected and uploaded to the server.
However when trying to access the site now, I get a 403 error: "Forbidden. You don't have permission to access / on this server." [Again, beneath the damning message was the line and beneath that:
    "Apache/2.2 Server at www.mousenstein.com Port 80"
Question 1: Why am I getting these errors?
Question 2: What, if anything, does "Apache/2.2 Server at www.mousenstein.com Port 80" to do with it?
Note: My Web host is Your-Site.com.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My Remote Site root directory is entered as /www/. I entered it as /www/ rather than simply /www because I was directed to by Your-Site.com Support.
I don't think the syntax is particularly crucial.
    All they really say is
"When you connect via FTP most clients will log into the "root" or "/" directory. You must change to the "/www" directory before you start uploading.
Most FTP clients have a section that displays the remove server - when you first login you should see a "/www" directory; if you do, try double clicking it to put yourself into the www directory. If you don't see a www directory check to see if you're in it already.
Once you're in your www directory you should upload your files."
    http://accounts.your-site.com/support/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticlei d=109&nav=0
Provided you're pointing DW to the www directory on the remote site, the setup is correct.
Have you spoken to your host about why the site is not showing up?
