Help! Small site has grown to 25GB in 5 weeks!

I built a sharepoint site as a business solution at our office that went into production about 5 weeks ago.  It only consists of one large list and a couple small lookup lists, and one library.  In the last day or two performance on the server
has really slowed.  Our SP administrator says the site is already 25GB.  How can that be and what can be done?  The library contains .msg files with Word and PDF attachments in them. I turned on the file size field in the library.
Though there are a couple that are 2MBs, the total is still probably under 10MB.
There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what you are trying to accomplish.

Hi run4it,
I'm not very clear why you append '.' to the text field.
For this issue, Ramakrishnaraja is correct, you can set the version limit on list settings and delete old versions.
As it is not such convenient to use PowerShell command in SPS 2007, you can use server object model instead, create a console project in VS, the code logic to delete old versions is similar to the PowerShell command provided in above post, change it to server
object model in your project to delete the versions.
Thanks,
Qiao

    Hello darkhawk,
Thank you for the recommendation.  I somewhat understand what a MS DOS disk is, but I'm not sure how to go about creating one. I've seen where you can use a program, like Rufus, to create a usb one  - but I'm leery about using 3rd-party programs (especially ones I'm not familiar with). I've come across a couple of 'how-to' tuts, but they didn't clarify what files (if any) I would need to include on the disk (for my particular situation). Right now I don't have any blank cds, nor any extra flash/thumb drives - wish I did, but hadn't needed these for years. There has only been one other time where I needed to re-install Windows, but that was over 15 years ago - I did it through BIOS, reformatting my drives, and then reinstalled via the Windows XP disk. Windows 8 is an entirely different breed, which has left me feeling a bit stumped, at times. If there was a way I could perform it (successfully), similar to the first time I did it years ago, I'd give it a try - but at the same time, I'm a bit reluctant, because if it doesn't work, then I'm stuck without any internet access to get further help.
Ask and ye shall receive. This should be doable in Windows 7 and Windows 8 on another PC. I recommend using a USB Flash drive like in this tutorial, but I'm sure you could use something else.
If you want, you could also use Hiren's BootCD to make a bootable CD with many options and programs on it (I keep one, just for certain situations) that will allow you to do the same things.

Also very useful for sorting out virus's as long as it's downloaded and made on another PC that is virus free......

  • Your help site has a problem; it crashed while I was using it and now doesn't recognize my registration.

The above is problem # 2. It finally recognized my previous registration and allowed me to proceed.
My primary question regards failure of one web page to load on this computer. I have used it ever since I had this computer. I was reading King World News when they warned they had been attacked and advised clearing recent history caches. Following this, this one web site has been closed to me on this computer. It is open on other computers on my same home network, but not on this one. The page I am trying to load is https://vitalityforlife.com/melaleuca/guests/login.asp. After typing the password, this is what I get: https://dev.vitalityforlife.com/melaleuca/guests/login.asp and the message "problem loading page." I don't know why it puts up the letters "dev" in front of the web site. I have Kasprsky antivirus program, and it has found no viruses. All of the other web pages load normally with my password. How can I fix this? What is the problem?
Up until now, I have enjoyed the experience of using Firefox. The problem might be on the computer after erasing history. I tried to load the page with Microsoft Explorer and got the same result.
Once again, the program loads for me normally on my other computers.
    Thanks for your help.
    Carl Matlock

By the way, when I hit the first URL in your post, I get a warning that the certificate is only valid for '''www.'''vitalityforlife'''.'''com. If I add www into the URL, it loads normally.
    https://www.vitalityforlife.com/melaleuca/guests/login.asp
Naturally I can't actually log in, but does that make any difference for you?
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
    (2) Remove the site's cookies --before trying to log in. View a page on the site, and then use either of these:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

I just launched Flash Builder 4.7 (latest version) for the first time and went to Help -> Software Updates and get this error.

Really sloppy, Adobe. Put this in your QA checklist!!

So agree! Cobwebs are gathering fast on FB.

  • Help My site is missing after publishing changes

I created a site to replace a previously created one already on a server. I first deleted the existing one on the server. I published my new site to the desktop then used Fetch to upload it. Everything was fine, but some changes needed to be made. I fixed any problems in iweb, saved the site, then published to the same desktop folder and ftp-ed the files again only to find my site has disappeared only leaving me with a message of
The requested URL / was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
I first tried reuploading the files, next I got rid of the desktop folder and republished a new one then uploaded, then I deleted what was on the server and tried again. Nothing is working and i don't know where to begin to fix this.
the site is www.stairstepstosuccess.com. I notice when I get that error is only says stairstepstosuccess.com (without the www.) and wasn't sure if that was telling to someone more informed.
any help would be greatly appreciated- I'm losing sleep over this

wow! I didn't work for hours last night- which of those steps would you suspect did the job? Or, is there just a delay sometimes?
What a relief! I hope that doesn't happen again

  • A small symbol has come up on my i phone 4 left hand side of the battery. looks like a small padlock with an arrow going round it. i cannot seem to get rid of it? it was not there originally. i understand its the lock that stops the screen rotating.

A small symbol has come up to the left of the battery symbol. i have found out that this is the screen rotation lock. not sure hoe this has been turned on and i cant seem to turn it off. I read that there is a button above the volume control on the i pad which turns it off, but this does not work on the i phone4?

    Try this:
-double click the Home button: this will make the System Tray appear at the bottom of the screen.
-if you do not see the screen orientation lock button then flick to the right: once you see the screen orientation lock button, just tap it. That will change it back.
    I hope this helps!

  • Muse keeps telling me my site has changed

I can save and publish my site without errors.  The site works fine on any browser and displays the updated pages.  But...  If I close Muse, reopen it and try to load the same site it tells me that the BC site has changed and I have to merge all the updates from the BC site to the local copy that should have been saved just a few minutes earlier.  Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?  It has been going on for a few weeks.  I also just installed the April 2nd update to Muse and this did not change anything.  Any ideas?

    Hi,
Yep, I have the same issue; every time I attempt to publish (having created the site through Muse) I get the message telling me the BC site has changed and am given the option to "review" the changes or publish anyway. If I hit "review" it automatically skips the "merge" or don't merge screen and makes the choice to "merge" on my behalf (what If I don't want to merge?)... This happens EVERY time I attempt to publish the current site I'm working on.
The funny thing is, nothing on the BC side could've changed because it hasn't successfully published ONCE yet. This is due to a separate issue (I assume it's separate) where the publish pop-up hangs whenever it gets to any image file (regardless of size or format). So currently I cannot actually publish a site, and every time I attempt to, I'm told changes from the BC side of things need merging with the Muse side...
Anyone got any ideas on what's happening here, if there's anything I can do or whether I can expect an update to fix these (I guess) bugs any time soon? I need to publish this particular site asap and have a new commission I'm starting this week too - I don't want to commit to delivering in a certain timeframe if my software won't actually let me publish!!!
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • "Your site has been published to Mobile Me using your personal domain"

When I have done some editing to my site within iWeb I get invited to visit site now, or announce site etc in a window - trouble is window says "Your site has been published to Mobile me using your personal domain" BUT personal domain in my account settings IS NOT the address of my site - which is http://web.me.com/etc....How do I get that window at the end of editing to take me to my site?
(I note in my account settings that I could delete 'personal domain').
At the moment at the end of editing and site is published, I need to close that little window which opens, and then navigate to my site in Safari - Help please.
    Thanks
    Gareth

Okay, what you need to understand is that MobileMe does not give you a domain name at all, so unless you go to a domain name registrar and actually pay for a register the domain name gareth-sansom.com it is not your domain name.
MobileMe does not register domain names, all it does is enable you to host your website built with iWeb by publishing it to your iDisk.
gsansom is your MobileMe username which you cannot change and you cannot get rid of, so your MME url is always going to be http://web.me.com/username/sitename, so in your case http://web.me.com/gasnsom/ on its own or followed by sitename depending on the number of sites that you have.
The only reason that you would enter a domain name that you have purchased into the personal domain name section in your MobileMe account is if you want to forward it to your MobileMe site. You don't at the moment, so you do not need to enter anything in here - simply publish to MobileMe and your site will then be visible - don't enter a domain name that is not yours and has not been registered.
If you want to register www.gareth-sansom.com as a domain name, then by all means have a look at GoDaddy and see if it is available and purchase it.
gsansom is your MobileMe username which you cannot change. The only way you can change this is by registering for another MobileMe account and using a different username.

  • Standalone APs vs. Lightweight APs for very small sites

    Hello,
I am proposing a solution for a small site with 3 APs.
My question is whether is worth to have Lighweight solution for such small sites or should I go for standalone APs. ...WLC significalntly increase the price....
    Gorazd

I agree with the IOS setup.
You can configure Wireless Domain Infrastructure to make all APs aware of each others and also to improve roaming times.

Wheb I try to update iTune I am getting a message "the site has not a valid signature" and the downloading is stopped. How can I fix IT?
    I am using windows 7 64

That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • A site has saved some user names/passwords but will no longer offer the option; how can I fix this?

The local library web site I use allowed me to save my data and one child's data. When I went to add my other 2 children's data, it will not allow me to save the user names and passwords. I cannot find any information on why this happened or how to get it to save again. I would either like to find a setting to turn this back on for this site or if I could manually enter the data into a file some where. Other sites will still let me save the info. Is this a setting or something their web site has altered?

The Passwords Editor extension includes a feature which allows you to manually add passwords. <br />
