Help, songs skipping

I've had my ipod for a couple months now and I had to exchange it once and now this one isn't working well either. I've downloaded songs into itunes from my c.d.'s and now some of the songs are skipping. I tried to download a c.d. but the whole c.d. (every song) skipped. How do I get it to stop skipping through the songs? I went with the Ipod to get rid of the whole diskman skipping thing and now this does it to. Please help me out! I'm desperate. I reset the ipod hoping that would work, but it didn't. What should I do?

  • Help: songs skip on my iPod touch 2

First, I'm sure it's just the problem of the iPod touch, not the audio files, because they all play normally not only on the iTunes software, but also on my iPod nano 3 as well.
    So here's the exact problem:
For all my audio files compressed by Nero AAC codec, the last few seconds, bar none, will be skipped when played on my iPod touch 2.
However, there seems to be a fixed pattern for such skipping: if the song's length is 1 minute, the last 1 second will be skipped; if it's a 2-minute-long song, then the last 2 seconds will be skipped, then you can do the math yourself.
I'm not sure about the exact seconds, but that's the way it works.
Since most songs will leave a few seconds of "space" in the end, such skips are usually harmless. But for a continuouse work that's divided into several tracks, or some concert work that weighs as much as 20~30 minutes (which means the last 20~30 seconds will be omitted), your enjoyment can be severely impaired.
Here's something else worth mentioning: all the mp3 files compressed by lame or iTunes, and AAC songs bought from iTunes Store have no such problem on my iPod touch, which only affects AAC files encoded by Nero AAC codec, CBR & VBR alike.
My iPod touch's software version is 2.2.1 (they don't fix the problem since 2.1, when I bought the iPod)
Is there a way to fix the problem, or at least, will somebody tell me that I'm not alone on this?
    Thank you!

Have you tried converting them using iTunes itself? If you want to keep them as AAC files, first, open iTunes Preferences and then open Import Options. Select AAC from the drop down menu and select OK. Then, select the tracks you want to convert, right click and select "convert to AAC". Once they've converted, delete the original files then sync the new tracks to your iPod. If the skipping continues, maybe do what I said above but convert them to MP3 instead.
Hopefully it's just an encoding issue, and that re-encoding will solve it.

  • Songs skipping like scratched cd in iTunes 10.6 why and what is the fix

Hi, I use my MacBook pro to play backing tracks for my live show. I am working in Greece in the outdoors at night. Since the beginning of the summer iTunes has been skipping like mad during gigs Not Good. I don't remember when I upgraded my iTunes but don't recall having the problem last year when I started using the MacBook. I have searched the net and have found many a kindred soul suffering skipping songs.
    What gives?
    What I have tried:
1- I have disabled the sudden movenmt sensor thinking it might be a Bass Response issue. However, still does it.
2- bought a DJ rack to elevate the computer thinking it might be a heat issue. Nope.
3- got rid of all start up items, closed airport, netshred, etc.
4- changed the setting on Perian from Dolby stereo to stereo, and then I uninstalled it. Nope
5- I use the apogee duet live and I get skips. Tried it without the duet and it's worse.
    What I am running-
    MacBook Pro
    Lion X 10.7.4
Processor- 2.66 Ghz Intel Core i7
    Memory- 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    1TB SATA HD
I hope someone can help. I spent a lot of money for my MacBook and don't want to go back to the PC.
    Thanks

    Hi, Clinton,
Now I think that I have officially tried everything short of taking out the HD and replacing it..
I have used the removable drive and still got the problem.. However, I noticed that the skipping only happens on my Backing Tracks and the same ones, which then told me that the tracks became corrupted. So I re-encoded 2 of the tracks using Garageband and Others I just replaced with new versions..
It worked great for 2 gigs and I was chuffed to bits.. However, I needed the third gig to make it a go and then BLAMMO one of the re-encoded songs skips... My 4th gig I get a new addition to the skipping...
Something is wrong and it is doing my head in.. Do you have any other suggestions aside from going back to my Cheapie Windows Notebook that never skipped?

  • Songs skipping like scratched cd on iTunes and MacBook pro

Posted this on iTunes and no response. I would really appreciate a reply from Apple as I not only paid loads for my MacBook, but crowed like mad how much better the Mac would be than a PC for doing music live. I am seriously disappointed and a bit embarrassed.

P.S. I have upgraded, as well, to the latest iTunes.

  • My songs skip if I'm on the web and swiching pages or scrolling, any ideas?

I like to listen to Itunes (9.0) as I surf the internet, but as I scroll or open new pages the songs skip and sometimes won't stop skipping till I close that page. It doesn't matter what website I'm on or if I'm scrolling up,down, left or right. If I use page up or page down I don't have the problem, but then I still can't go left or right. I've tried restarting my computer and reopening Itunes, but nothing seems to help. Any ideas on how to fix this problem would be appreciated.

Open XP's Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab. Highlight the iTunes.exe. Right-click it, and you'll see an option to set its "priority" as above normal. Do so. From then on in that session, whenever the computer is faced with a choice of playing the music without interruption or painting a web page quickly, it will choose to play the music without interruption.
Unfortunately, you'll have to do this Task Manager trick EVERY TIME. The operating system will not remember that you want iTunes to be considered more important than your other tasks.

  • Re: Songs skipping after downloading from iTunes

I am having problems with the songs skipping when I use itunes to play them on my computer. I have deleted them and redownloaded. It does not fix the problem. What do I do next?

    Hello, cajunkiwi.
Thank you for the question.  There are a couple options to help you with this.  If limited purchased media skips only on the iPhone, then delete the affected content and download it again free of charge via the purchased section of the iTunes Store.  If almost all of your media library skips on the iPhone only, remove all music from the device by removing the preference to sync music.  After this has been completed, restore the sync music preference to place the media back on the the device.  Below are a couple articles that will walk you through this process.

  • Songs skip BADLY on iTunes w/ other programs

Guys, I just got an iPod recently and so have begun using iTunes instead of windows media player out of neccessity. I have one major problem with it: songs skip very badly when using other programs. This ranges from high performance games to simply surfing the internet with firefox. Basically I can only listen to songs when not using the computer for anything else or suffer the consequences. I cant imagine this happens to everyone or no one would use the software...theres so many times I want to listen to music while doing things. Also, my computer is not slow...I have plenty of memory and processing power so that is not the problem. Windows Media Player had always worked fine for me...what is wrong with iTunes?
    PLEASE HELP!!!

    moraleclipse,
iTunes uses Quicktime, which uses DirectX/DirectSound for playback.
This article suggests some possible causes of conflict in that process, and steps that can be taken to try and resolve it.

  • Songs skip

My songs skip on iTunes. I have a Mac Pro (10 GB ram) with my iTunes library on a WD My Book World Edition (Blue Rings) network drive connected to an Airport Extreme N.
Also, when going to the next song, there is no sound but the song is playing. This doesn't happen every time.

I posted the same problem on 10/23 but no responses.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2624470&tstart=0
Glad to see people paying attention to your question. Anyway, I'll get 3-4 songs to play then it skips or plays without sound. I'm also using a WD external drive (2TB) connected by USB to an Airport Extreme plus set up an Airport Express so I can use my sound system.
Sure would like to try and fix this if there is a fix. I'm able to use a lot of other apps wirelessly like backup with Synchronize Pro, manage photos with Aperture, and send photos to clients with ProStudio Manager without a hitch. So it's not my network. It has something to do with iTunes.
    Appreciate any help -Roger

  • Songs skip midsong to next, some songs are skipped entirely

    1) Recently some songs skip midsong to the next. It mainly seems to affect Bad Religion songs. And actually one album from 'Badlands' No I haven't done anything funny to them. What about the similarity of the band name? Spooky or what? The songs play without problem in iTunes.
    2) I also found that a couple of songs that synchronise to the iPod won't play on the iPod. I found this out by sorting the playlist after synchronisation into 'last played' order and then putting the list back in it's original order. There were a few gaps. When trying to play these songs targeted on the iPod they just skipped, ie briefly showed on the screen, but before the music started jumped to the next song. The songs play without problem in iTunes.
    Can anybody help?

The symptoms on my computer (64bit Win7) are that it keeps skipping to the next song without having completed the previous one.
ITunes appears to me to be corrupting it's own iTunes Music Library.xml file where it stores information on the lengths of songs (amongst other things). For example, I'm looking at a song now that shows in the listing window as length 5:34. If I try to play this, the time changes to 2:47 and when it reaches that point iTunes skips to the next song.
Looking in the XML file the listing of Total Time for that track has indeed changed from ~334000msec to ~167000msec which bears out the fact that this is not a trivial error and involves incorrect storage of data on the file.
The really odd thing is that if I open the "Get Info" dialog and go to the Options tab then the correct song length is shown of 5:34 AND as this info is displayed, the time in the listing window changes back to the correct one. However, if you now close the "Get Info" dialog and try to play the song it jumps back to being only 2:47 in length.
If I delete the song from the library and then re-load it then it seems to fix the problem *for that file* but my experience is that it recurs later and, with over 4000 songs in my library, this is not a viable option to fix the issue.
This is an incredibly serious bug and it is amazing that Apple have not addressed it yet. Judging from this thread I am far from the only one with the problem but I have yet to see ANY real response from Apple. In the meantime the frequency of this happening on my computer is steadily increasing and I have now been waiting through many updates with no indication that the problem is even recognized let alone fixed.

  • Songs skip when playing on itunes

Is anyone else having problems with their songs skipping on itunes (both saved audio files and audio cds) when they play fine on other players like windows media player. My itunes was working fine until about two weeks ago when the program seemed to create havic on my computer. It killed my internet explorer, then itunes and quicktime wouldn't uninstall on my computer. Finally removed programs using windows cleanup utility program. Have installed/ uninstalled program several times since with no luck. The songs keep skipping and slowing down. Even tried updating drivers. Seems to play fine as long as I'm not running anyother program on the computer, but as soon as I run another program or even minimize/ maximize the itunes media player skipping starts (even though only using like 4% computer power). Even tried installing stand alone quicktime player. Nothing works. The apple techs have to be the worst support on the planet. Sent hrs on the phone with them. Please help or let me know if u are having similar problems. Thanks Tom

I've had problems as well. I get "crackling" when I play songs using iTunes. When it happens, it appears that the program is getting bogged down because the mouse doesn't move smoothly across the screen. I've been trying many ways of troubleshooting it including the "waveout" option and keep coming up empty. I've tested identical tracks on Windows Media Player and found them to play perfectly on WMP. What is also baffling is that I can still burn playlists using iTunes and then play the burned CD on another computer or CD player with no sound problems whatsoever. Someone suggested it could be connected to compatibility with a Windows update like Service Pack 2 for WINXP, but I know for a fact the program was fine when SP2 was installed.
Here's a brief history of my troubleshooting:
Everything with my system was working fine.
Computer was getting bogged down playing Sim City, games on pogo.com, and itunes was crackling.
Left for work one day and iTunes was working. Came home the next day and the program dumped EVERYTHING. It did not carry a single song in the library and all 52 playlists were gone even though all files were still sitting in the iTunes folder as they always were. Each playlist xml file I found and opened with Notepad showed only the playlists that come with the program and nothing I had created. I'm assuming this issue occurred because of a corrupted xml library file or there was a conflict with my old 20GB hard drive that used to house the old OS and program files (that hard drive has since been wiped).
Did major utitility maintenance: 3 Spyware programs, 2 antivirus, Norton Utlities Disc Cleanup/defragged/etc and what little spyware found were cookies.
I considered that there may be files corruption, so I tried playing mp3 tracks from the library using Windows Media Player and had no sound problems at all!! Of course, the majority of my library is in apple's aac fomat.
I also decided to see what would happen if I burned a CD through iTunes. The CD works great!
I also get crackling when I play CDs through the CD Rom with iTunes and do not when I use Windows Media Player.
I also considered that it was a specific format causing the issue: mpeg layer 3 or 4. Songs crackle across the board.
Uninstalled iTunes again. Downloaded and installed iTunes 5 today. Songs still crackle!
I also used regedit and ccleaner to clean up the computer as well. Still no luck.

  • Songs Skipping in New Version

I have recently installed the latest version of iTunes (7.0.1.8) and have not inherited the problem where songs sporadically SKIP !!!??? Sometimes a few songs will play perfect, then, they all start skipping at different points. I have tried everything!!!! any thoughts ???? some one HELP!
    D.

Another one on the same topic...
Why aren't Apple helping? We pay for music, we should be able to listen to it with quality. Instead, we're treated to second rate audio quality and song skipping all for the name of new features.
We want answers, or a fix!

  • While playing songs, each songs skips at the beginning

Recently while listing to my ITunes on "shuffle", each songs skips at the beginning of the song as if there is a delay or something when switching songs. I ran OneCare to check for viruses, and I've tuned up my computer, so I don't know what else I can to do stop this. Please help!

Been having the same problems myself. And I don't know about you but sometimes it'll take a while to get it to actually play the first song.
