HELP - SONY BVW-50 Trouble with Final Cut

I am having trouble editing to tape on a BVW-50 via RS 422.
I am using an AJA LA breakout box. I can access the deck, but when I try to edit to tape I gat a pop up screen saying "adjust preroll time of deck" - any suggestions ?
Thanks
Axel

I don't think the BVW-50 will let you do an insert. It wasn't designed as an edit deck, but as a field recorder. I believe the RS422 capability was added to allow it to slide in as a player in a machine to machine or A/B roll edit suite or maybe a news van.
It has been a while, but I remember that the menu items were hidden (a little button somewhere that you could only push with the tip of a screwdriver.)
I was in this situation recently – I was told we would get a BVW-75 to interface with FCP, and the little portable BVW-50 showed up. I think I set the internal time code generator, crash recorded, and manually rolled the time line after rendering everything including audio. I would have used Print to Tape, but I needed to be within a few frames of 1:00:00:00 on the tape.
It wasn't pretty, lacked precision and was depressing, but we made air.

  • Sony Mini-DVD's with Final Cut Pro

I am wondering if it is possible to convert mini-DVD's such as those from sony camcorders to the Final Cut Pro editing program? I have been able to do this on my PC but is difficult, long and complicated. I have read other posts my my question isn't completly answered. My camcorder does not have a USB or Firewire port on it but I already own an exterior disk burning drive that accepts mini-DVD's. I am considering switching to a MAC from PC and Final Cut Pro is one of the main reasons why.
    Thanks in Advance!

    Welcome to the forum!
To convert ANY non-copyrighted, non-encrypted DVD video footage to an editable format that FCP can work with, you have two basic options; hardware or software.
The hardware method is connecting a DVD player's outputs to a qualified DV device, which is connected to your Mac via Firewire. In FCP, set device control to "Non-Controllable Device" and use capture now - or dub the footage to DV/DVCam/DVCPro for logging and batch capturing.
The software method involves using a program such as DVDxDV, Cinematize or MPEG Streamclip to demux and convert the DVD-Video's VOB files into an editable format for later importing into FCP.

  • Sony DVD 403 users with Final Cut Express

    Hi.
Anybody's input on getting Sony's Mini DVD-RW. into Final Cut Express that uses a Sony DCR-DVD 403 camcorder.
    Walter

    Walter
DVD and FCE are not directly compatible. Probably not what you wanted to hear.
Mini DV (tape base) cameras are compatible.
You will have to either use analogue outputs from your camera hooked up to a DV Converter or use a software based converter to de-mux the files.
You will find lots of info on this forum, Try a search for de-mux.

I have a new Macbook Pro 2,4Ghz with 4GB RAM and Leopard 10.5.4
So also I have Final Cut Studio 1 updated on 5.1.4.
My problem: As i captured HDV Material i saw in Quicktime, that there are many fragments, more terrible then hdv compression. In Final Cut 5 the same. So i was looking for an other Mac, so i've found an G5 also with Final Cut 5.1.4 and Tiger OS. But there i saw nothing, no fragments, all good(same material).
So i think its a problem with between macbook pro, leopard, hdv and final cut 5.1.4
Can anyone help me, im also able to give you a screenshot with the fragmets. There are very strong to see in the grey colors.

    SoCal thanks for the attention,
sorry for having wrote the question directly in the subject, but first i wrote it by text edit then copied it, but in the wrong place too.....
coming to my question, timeline settings are:
as it is a commercial promo that must be projected in a multiplex cinema, the 2K format is needed.
I've heard about transcoding services, and they are very expensive.
so i'm looking if there is a way to do everything by fcp.
the project will be delivered as SD DVD for archive pourposes and as a single file for the projection or eventually transconding.
p.s.: sorry for my english, i'm from italy: had my last english lesson 35 years ago!

  • Help please importing mpeg files to be edited with Final Cut Studio

Hey everyone, new to the video editing thing. I have a JVC GY-HM100U Pro HD camcorder and a MacBook Pro 5,1 with 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 4 GB 1067 MHz DPR3, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M & NVIDIA GeForce 9600MGT running OSX 10.5.8. Have recorded footage in mpeg4 and want to now edit using Final Cut Pro 7. Have downloaded Quicktime Pro and am still getting a "the movie could not be opened when trying to import the mp4 file. The movie contains some invalid data" window when trying to open the mpeg4 file. I have also downloaded DivX, FF Player, & Handbrake if these help convert to another supported file format. Please help!

That camera is promoted on the JVC website as being Final Cut Pro compatible.
Have you tried to import the clips via Log & Transfer?
You might also want to read up on the [workflow for that type of camera|http://documentation.apple.com/en/finalcutpro/professionalformatsandwork flows/#chapter=6%26section=0].
    Have downloaded Quicktime Pro....
QuickTime Pro is installed automaticallly with Final Cut Studio. No need to buy it again.
I have also downloaded DivX, FF Player, & Handbrake...
That software is all pretty much useless for working with Final Cut Studio.
MPEG Streamclip is free and much better.

  • Does the DCR-SR62 30GB Sony Handycam work with Final Cut Express hd 3.5?

    Hi,
I am a new mac user and I want to get a good camera that will work with Final Cut Express hd, I am currently looking at the DCR-SR62 30GB and the HDR-UX1 dvd both by sony and I would like to know if these to cameras or one of them will work with Final Cut Express Hd. Thanks.

Niether one of these cams are the best choice for FCE. FC can not directly work with either DVD or HD (as in Hard drive) camcorders. You will have to convert and/or rip the output of either camera, giving you an extra work step and perhaps diminishing the quality of your footage
FCE is designed to work with DV/HDV material ... from a tape, throught a Firewire connection
There is software like MPEG Streamclip which will allow you to convert those cam's output to work with FC but if you haven't bought them yet, I would hold off and look at a good quality tape based cam

  • I have a Sony HVR-V1P, can i successfully capture and edit with Final Cut Pro X

I have a Sony HVR-V1P, can i successfully capture and edit with Final Cut Pro X

My HVR-A1U was able to capture just fine.  The only issue I had is that it has mroe frequently than FCP 7 ever did find Timecode breaks and split my clip apart.  I never had breaks before, so while it is possible I had them on this latest tape, I think X is just more picky.  I mean heck, it found three in a one minute timeframe.  My A1U worked with X without me needing to adjsut any settings form how I had it setup for 7.

  • Which Sony Video Camera's will work with Final Cut

    Hi,
I'm getting *Final Cut* and can get +Sony Video Camera's+ at a discount, but like to know which +Sony Video Camera's+ will work with *Final Cut* or should most work without any problems?
    Thanks,

You got to do better than that.
Any idea on the TYPE of sony video camera's available to you? They make quite a few.
I'd stay away from anything with a DVD in it... also HDV can be tricky too... but not undoable.

  • Problems with Final Cut Pro HD 4.5

    Hi gang
I posted something similar a few weeks ago about this problem, and since then, my problem has only gotten worse. Here's the basics: I'm using FCP HD 4.5 on a MacBook (apparently that's trouble right there.) I did the thing where you change something in the properties to get around the required video card. So the program works, right? Sure.
I shot some video on a Cannon XL-2 (which I thought was Hi-Def, but apparently it's not.) The camera was rented, so I obviously don't have it anymore. I have been trying to import the video on to my laptop, via an external hard drive (like 30GB) using a Sony Handycam (borrowed from my office.)
The first problem was that there was no audio on the tapes shot on the XL. I'm going to go ahead and say that some how....that was my fault. Not sure how, but I'll take the blame. Now, I'm trying to import this silent footage, and I keep running into a problem, and that problem is this: the important stops after a few seconds, and there's a message about how there is some kind of error on the tape. This is super frustrating, and I think when I was working on this the other night, the tape eventually just stopped showing video, even though something is obviously there.
Now, here's a few questions. Is it because I'm using a somewhat small external hard drive that may not have enough space on it to keep processing the video? Is it because I'm using a different camera to try and get this video? Should I try using another Cannon, or should I go as far as to track down another XL-2 to rent? Is it something wrong with Final Cut? Some setting or something?
If someone could help me out, I'd appreciate it.

The XL-2 does not shoot 'High Def". It records DV in either 4:3 or 16:9 anamorphic formats.
Here's my standard "so you are using a Canon camcorder to capture and it isn't working" routine:
Not all Canon cameras have connection issues, but hanging around this site I've come to recognize their ability to connect in FCP is the most problematic of all the camera brands. If you have a Canon camcorder, and can not get it to connect up with FCP, the following is a way to sort through the issues and get it to work. Some are elegant - some are ugly.
    Before we go any farther
-you should be using 'Firewire Basic' as the control protocol. If you aren't, go change it and try again.
-Also, verify that you have a solid installation of Quicktime. You may want to reinstall it using the 'delete receipts' method. Do a quick search here on the site - it is mentioned daily if not hourly.
With some confidence that the software installation and camera settings are correct and it still won't capture correctly, you are most likely a victim of the dread 'Canon firewire bus incompatibility problem'. Simply stated: Canon cameras do not play well with other devices on the same firewire bus. And, since all the firewire ports on a Mac connect to one bus - well - you get the picture.
The most direct solution is to purchase another, non-Canon device to use as your capturing machine. The Sony DSR-11 is highly recommended for DV work. A deck will save wear and tear on the camera's lightweight drive mechanism and will allow you to permanently connect a NTSC/PAL monitor for proper viewing. (If you are working with HDV, you will have other issues ...)
Beyond replacing your tape playback device, the path you take depends on the model of computer you own.
    1. If you have a G5 tower or a MacPro, capture to a second internal drive with only the camera attached. If you need to move material to firewire drive, disconnect the camera. A second internal drive is quite inexpensive these days if you do not already have one.
    2. If you have a G5 tower (PCI) MacPro (PCI), G4 powerbook (PCMCIA) or MacBookPro (Expresscard 34) with an available slot, purchase the appropriate firewire card for the slot. Connect your camera to the card and you should be good to go. The new card creates a unique bus and will avoid collisions with the external drives.
    3. If you do not have a slot or a second internal drive and you are stuck with the camera, welcome to the camera/drive shuffle.
    - shut down and remove the external hard drive(s) from the system
    - connect the camera directly to the firewire port of the computer
    - start the camera then the computer
    - capture to your internal (system) hard drive
    - shut down the camera and computer
    - disconnect the camera and reconnect the external hard drive(s)
    - start hard drive(s) and computer
    - move captured files to external hard drive(s)
    - edit
If you output back to tape or wish to view your work on an external Video (NTSC or PAL) monitor, you need to set up the camera to use the firewire out as the A/DV converter or VTR - which means reversing the steps:
    - copy the file back to the internal drive
    - shut everything down
    - disconnect the external drive(s)
    - connect the camera to the firewire port (and the TV to the camera if needed)
    - start the camera then the computer
    - play the file.
One caveat here - You may have difficulty getting the file back to tape without dropping frames. Playing files off of the system drive is very demanding and they may have a hard time keeping up.
All in all, if you do not have the option for second bus (i.e. iMacs, eMacs, iBooks, MacBooks) you may want to think about a computer with expandable options next time.
There is the option of capturing using iMovie, but that brings on it's own set of problems and is not recommended.
    Good luck.

  • How can we transform a video from progressive to interlaced with final cut?

How can we transform a video from progressive (720x1080 50p) to interlaced (PAL) with final cut pro???????
The video is taken with Sony EX3

    Hi Nick
Sorry but your first link says +"The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable."+ ... but tell me, are you viewing these interlaced encodes yourself on an interlaced monitor (eg are you burning them to disc and viewing on a TV) as they are meant to be seen, or are you just playing them back from file on your (progressive) computer display?
By the way, I did manage to download your source file and encoded it here. Looks ok to me ... in a addition to the instruction above, I also changed the Field Dominance in the Encoder > Video Format tab to Top First (it defaulted to progressive due to the progressive source file).
Let me know if that helps

  • Is the Canon Legria HF M56 compatible with Final Cut Pro X

I am new to Mac and new to Final Cut Pro X. I am looking to buy a new HD Video Camcorder to use with my new computer/software and wondered whether or not the Canon Legria HF M56 is compatible with Final Cut Pro X.
If it is, do you have to import the footage directly from the Camcorder, or can you first save the files to the Mac and import them that way?
I currently use a Sony HandyCam HDR-SR10 which produces AVCHD .mts files. I have these saved on my Mac after transferring them over from my PC but Final Cut Pro X cannot import them. Very frustrating for a professional app to be unable to import these files. Even Cyberlink Power Director can use these files.
