HELP!  Strange sync issue

This is by far the strangest problem I have come upon and
can't find anything in any forum discussing it. My site is
www.aloversscent.com. We are trying to put up 4 videos. I am
editing in FCP and compressing in Compressor to H.264 and then
making the files flv files to bring directly into Flash. All of
them are working fine except for our third episode, Operation Fox
Hunt. The audio sync is going off when the title cards come up,
about a 1/3 of the way through the video and only then. I went back
and made new exports where I tried filling in the blank audio
pieces under the cards with Slugs, I tried creating the title in
LiveType and then transfering it over instead of using the FCP
title cards. But neither worked. The strange thing is they work
fine when I play them in Quicktime. It's only when they play in
Flash that they get out of sync. If you scrub through the timeline
they will sometimes match back up again but while playing they
always get out of sync. I have run out of answers and need help
bad. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Naw, just tell us what your sequence settings are and what your original codecs are or were. It's easy to transcode or to shoot incompatible or wrong audio sampling rates.
Clip: HDV 1080i60, 1440x1080, Upper field first; Linear PCM 24-bit 44.1khz
Sequence setting: all standard easy setup for HDV 1080i60
The difference between 2 and 20 percent is a complete order of magnitude and that kind of discrepancy sends us to totally divergent debugging paths and wildly silly suggested workarounds.
You are right. My initial wrong judgement was based on which selection I thought I was seeing at the time.
If you convert, as Christina suggests, you may still need to alter the speed of your audio track to match the length of the video.
The audio is not the only problem. Even with no audio (just a video track extracted by QT or MpegStreamclip and saved as a self-contained movie) the video stops short; i.e. by minute 10 of a 10' clip material from earlier is still playing, and the rest is missing. All other apps see the video just fine.
I already tried converting the audio to the proper rate in QT and recombining the two. But again, this problem with the video is there with the audio stripped as well.
Oh, and also: the problem is there in the viewer as well, before adding it to the timeline.

DVD Studio Pro 4.x. Using Quicktimes of :30 each with the DV-NTSC codec.
Created a menu that has 10 categories of commercials. In the "financial" item, when clicked on, it goes the first commercial...the end action is to go to the next commercial and so on. The final commercial in the series returns to the main menu.
All the different categories worked fine except for one in the financial, and I couldn't figure it out, so I took it out. THE KEY-->once I took that spot out, the sync issue cascaded to another piece of video (chapter/track). No matter how many variations of disconnecting files, deleting files all together and re-importing, deleting rendered MPEG and AIFF files worked. Finally I gave up and edited the 9 spots together in Final Cut and created one long spot. Of course, that worked fine. No sync issues... Until my boss asked me to remove one spot from one of the other categories...then the whole sync thing happened again in that other category! ***!?!?!?
Would I be better off squishimatizing the files in Compressor first and bringing them in seperately into DVDSP? I am probably doing something very obvious that I shouldn't be... pppppppplease help me to determine what my idiocy is.

What format are you using in iTunes to play them back?  Are these the exact same files as the one, you are playing back in Quicktime 7?

  • Help - Multiple sync issues

Please help - I'm at my wit's end. I would really appreciate help determining either solutions to the issues below or whether I have a hardware issue.
Issue 1: Sometimes when I sync my ipod, purchased music that was on the ipod is no longer on the ipod after the sync is completed. Sometimes if I sync a couple more times it shows up (keep reading).
Issue 2: Sometimes when I sync my ipod I receive the following message: "Attempting to copy to the disk "(ipod name) failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." My ipod will be partially updated. If I attempt to sync again (sometimes it takes a couple of times getting through this message) it finally gets all the new music/podcasts onto the ipod.
Issue 3: Sometimes when I sync my ipod I receive the message: "Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the ipod (ipod name) because your ipod software is too old. Go to the summary tab in ipod preferences and click update to get the latest ipod software update." However, when I go to the summary tab it informs me that my software is up to date.
In my latest endeavor to sync my ipod I came across each of these issues, in the order listed above. After issue #2 some of my purchased music had shown back up, but not all. After issue #3 the purchased music that had shown back up after the prior sync disappeared again. I started to sync again, and noticed the version of the software listed changed from 6.1.1 to 1.2 - yet I did not update anything. Synced again, checking the box for my album artwork to appear - like magic all my purchased music is back.
Note: I have reformatted, restored, updated, and reset my ipod (in various orders) many times.

    Hi zebelkhan,
Back on version 29 there was a new version of Sync released. This is why the interface will look different on the updated computer compared to the others. When it updated, in order to use the new sync, it was required to sign up for a new account on the new sync servers. It no longer has a recovery key and the new login for the accounts are accounts.firefox.com. Please keep in mind that the old accounts were not migrated over to the new ones.
Depending on which way you would like to go:
If you would like to update all of the other computers to the new sync please follow these instructions: [[How to update to the new Firefox Sync]]
If you plan on using an older version of sync, I do not recommend this: [[Install an older version of Firefox]] may be required to install the older version of sync.
    I hope this helps.

  • Urgent Help Required- Syncing Issues

    Heya.
I have just purchased an 80GB Ipod Classic and have been experimenting with syncing music from my previous libary, to my new iPod. This hadnt worked. Eventually i downloaded the new Itunes 7 and put all my previous music on there, but my Ipod will not sync my music. Nothing comes up. I watched a tutorial about syncing, and realised the Set Up Assistant did not appear, allowing me to name my Ipod or anything like that. So when i go to help, they tell me to click summary and i cant do that as my Ipod, although recognised on devices, will not sync my music.
N e help/support will b MUCH appreciated. I am at the end of my tether.
    Emily

I've had trouble getting iTunes to recognise my iPod classic too. The only solution I've found is to reset the iPod just before connecting it to the computer. To do this, slide the hold button on and off then hold down the centre buton and the menu button at the same time for 6-10 secs.
I don't know if this will solve the issue in your case, but it's worth a try.

  • Please help me syncing issues

i have searched and searched and can;t find the answer anywhere to my problem
my iphone will not sync or even be recognized by my computer at all
my computer pops up an error message that reads "usb device not recognized"
i called support about the problem when all of a sudden voila! it immediatly synced and charged
when i plug it into the wall jack it does not charge however if the iphone is off and i plug it in the iphone turns on but still does not charge....so i know that there is something going on when i connect it however i can;t quite figure it out
    so far i have tried
    -resetting
    -restoring
    -using an ipod wire
    -using an iphone wire
-calling support (they told me go to the store ....which is closed for matinence)
    -restarted my computer
    -uninstalling/reinstalling itunes
    -having the latest itunes
    -different USB ports
-going through My Computer to find if it even is being acknoledged
the issue is that it worked fine before about 7 days ago and now this problem started
    i have a few questions
    1) is anyone else having this issue?
    2) what should i do?
    3) is there anything else i can try on my own until my apple store reopens?

Ah, then it sounds as if it's a defective device. I've been scouring this board for weeks trying to figure out my issues and haven't seen anyone post issues such as yours.
I've seen, though, that Apple has been VERY good about replacing devices, so when your store is open, you should be able to walk out with a new one.
But, hopefully, someone else will post a solution for you -- but it looks like you tried just about everything there is to try.

  • Looking for help, strange powermac issues

    I have a apple powermac g5.
When I power the unit on, there is no chime and the fans turn on like full blast. The unit does boot into MAC OS but freezes at the logon aas soon as you move the mouse. The motherboard is brand new and was replaced by a mac tech when we had one here at our shop. When I try and boot to a CD by holding C I get this display.
    Apple Powermac 7, 2 5. 1.5f0 BootROM Built on 02/16/04 at 13:01:10
Welcome to open firmware, the system time and date 21:21:07 01/02/1904
to continue booting, type "mac-boot" and press return
to shut down, type "shut-down" and press return
    release keys to continue.
The unit also doesnt always open/eject a disc it is actually really hard to get to open but even once I do get it to open it wont boot to a disc.
The other wierd thing is certain monitors I hook up to it while plugged in even if I power the unit off, the white light in the front stays on and if I unplugg it then the light goes out. As soon as I plug the monitor back it the computer turns on by itself. Not all the monitors I have here do this.
Any advice would be great, I am not currently certified but Im helping the one who is at our shop, we are a apple certified service center at a compusa, and we have a gsx login. Just trying to see if anyone might know what issue could be causing all this.

you need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button. Then it has it in chineese or something.
You are having a kernel panic on startup:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107061
The fans will blast during a panic, or other operational error so as to protect the CPU's from overheating. As well, a CPU caught in a kernel trap will be running full power, which prompts the appropriate cooling response.
Since the motherboard was replaced, unless the machine has been thermal calibrated, the machine will blast the fans. Has thermal calibration been performed?
Will the machine do a safe mode boot (hold shift key on startup)?

  • Strange sync issue

Hi all. I'd appreciate some help.
I am capturing live in Quicktime from two sources: a remote Canon HV40 (firewire) and our recording studio CD burner (optical digital). This seemed to work fine at first, although I had to resync the audio and video, since the firewire has about 18 frames of latency. It was no problem to do that in FCP.
Here is the problem: I had to switch which CD burner I capture from, and it outputs a 24-bit 16 khz stream. The captured QT movie plays just fine by itself. If I drop that QT movie into FCP, the video seems to run too slowly, and is not complete. If this were a 30 minute movie, it would appear to be 30 minutes in FCP, and the audio would play normally, but the video would only get to 24 minutes or so. The rest is just missing. Of course, this means that the audio and video start out 18 frames out of sync (due to the latency) but gets to be minutes out of sync by the end.
If I transcode to something like Prores, the resulting movie works fine in FCP. But I would like to avoid that step, and just use the captured HDV movie file.
    Thanks for the help.

  • HELP! Syncing issues with Zen To

I'm getting completely frustrated syncing my Zen Touch to either WMP 0 or MediaSource Organizer. In both cases, I get an error that the player is not connected or busy. I do manage to get through part of the sync before it fails though. Why am I losing my connection? It's really annoying to sync one album at a time.
    Here are the details:
    All drivers are updated.
    All software arelatest versions.
USB wire is ok, not broken.
    No other programs running.
P4 Compaq, 933 MHz, 52mb RAM, Win XP sp (I really don't want to update to sp2 yet, concerned about some programs not running).
    USB .
I've reset the player and run a disk cleanup.
Any suggestions, this is really making me hate an otherwise excellent product.

    hey Wilco,
thanks for the response. I've definitely had some success with the Nomad Explorer, but I've been ripping tons of CDs lately, and I'd really like to use a feature like Audiosync that will scan for changes and sync. My iPod friends are laughing at me right now. They'll have really good reason to laugh if I have to resort to dragging and dropping individual albums.
Usually, I'm able to sync some files before my computer tells me that the Zen is disconnected or busy. Once that happens, rebooting and even resetting the Zen doesn't help, Explorer doesn't work, etc. The only option at that point is to reboot my computer. Sometimes this happens after I've synced several cd's, sometimes it happens after I attempt my first song.
I know I can probably get around this problem right now by dragging and dropping files via Nomad Explorer (well, actually, I HOPE I can get around this problem with Nomad, I haven't attempted large amounts of transfers via this method yet), but I'm looking for a good long term solution. Especially since my iPod friends are laughing...the *******s...
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Help! Syncing issues with latest version of iTunes

Help! I've upgraded my PC to Windows 7 & reinstalled iTunes but it will not sync to my PC in the way the old iTunes did. i.e. I can add music to my iTunes library but it won't add it to the iPod without threatening to wipe it first. What can I do?? I've got over 50GB on my iPod and cannot face the idea of having to readd everything - I just want to put some new albums on it. With the older copy of iTunes I had (can't use that now - apparently this iPod is too new) I could just click 'sync' and it would do it.

You may try some iTunes alternatives like this iPod file manager, it can upload songs and videos to iPod classic, it will not delete the songs on iPod. If you do afraid losing the songs, you can use the app to copy the songs from iPod classic to your new PC for backup first.

  • IPod touch strange sync issue

I just got a new macbook pro and I needed to transfer my iTunes info from a PC to and external formated for PCs to the Mac.
I got everything into iTunes and the music and videos will play fine without the external. All of the files are on the Mac.
However, when I try syncing my 30GB touch iTunes says I need about 24GB more space.
This cannot be true because iTunes says I have about 31GB of stuff and I unchecked a lot of things.
I thought about restoring but I'd rather not loose all the info on my apps.
Is there some reason why iTunes would be trying to add all my music to what I already had instead of replacing it and how to I stop it?
    Thanks.

    - When you change syncing computers you have restore the iPod on the new computer from a backup of the iPod with all apps in the iTunes library. Synced media like apps and music are not in the backup.
    - If you d id, how much is in the "other" category as shown in the colored bargraph in iTunes? If greater that about 1 GB that indicates corrupted file and a restore is necessary.

  • Help with syncing issue of a TV series to IPAD 1

After I upgraded to IOS 5, one of the TV series on my IPAD has disappeared from the videos screen of my IPAD 1.  I have tried re syncing, rebooting, and even re-downloading the series from itunes directly on to my IPAD.  All other TV shows and movies are fine. The odd thing is that if i search for the series with spotlight, it appears in the results, and I can select and play the episodes.  But when I hit "done" they are still not under the videos icon.
I would be gratefull if anyone has any suggestions.

Thank you again. While I have you I am having sues with my home sharing remotes and wifi sunk with iTunes. Both my iPhone and iPad. All is on but my devices won't seem to work with iTunes n my pc. Any thoughts?

  • Editing Contact notes - strange sync issue

I made some changes to Contact notes on the iPod, and then synced back to my Powerbook. The changes have successfully updated (and then .mac synced to my other macs) but the altered contacts no longer appear on a search
I can see then in Contacts (scroll down, open, edit etc.) but the ones that I changed on the iPod can't be brought up by keying in part of the name
This was done a couple of days ago, before 1.1.2. I'll try deleting and recreating these contacts tonight, but wondered whether anyone else has found this problem

    Update:
I managed to let the contacts update bij putting a space in the empty fields in the First Name column. But the notes who have text in them still aren't syncing. Someone has an idea?

  • IPad syncing issues, please help.

I know this is a long read, I appreciate you taking the time to follow the details to help me figure out what is happening with my iPad.
As a preface, I update the firmware to all my Apple software (including iTunes) and my MacBook OS (Snow Leopard) and my iDevices the day the updates come out, so all these issues occured with the current firmware.
A few weeks ago, I was syncing my iPad earlier to my MacBook via iTunes. The backing up step was going on for about 10 minutes and it only got 1/20 across the status / progress bar. I "X'd" out of that and just synced the rest of it without the backing up step.
Then I disconnected the device and reattached it. I went back and am re-syncing. The backing up step has been going for almost an hour and its only 1/5th across the progress bar. It is moving, but noticeably. If I put my mouse pointer icon on the end of the progress made so far, then come back and look at it 10 minutes later, it has made progress. So, it is backing up, but so incredibly slowly.
Anyone experience this before? Any idea what could be the cause or fix to this?
I left it for several more hours. In fact, I started the syncing around 6 pm, and went to bed around 11. It was only 3/4 to 4/5 done backing up by that point.
I left it overnight, and in the very early morning (6 or 7 am), it had the familiar and comforting "Sync Complete" message.
Still have no idea why it took so fookin long, or it it will happen again next time.
I don't think the problem is the issue pertaining to Zinio disrupting backups, as discussed here: http://imgs.zinio.com/faq/ipad.htm#backup because I already followed those steps.
Now, two nights ago, I updated the firmware. It only took a few minutes. I didn't notice until last night, some of my old movies that I handbrake'd into iTunes were no longer on my iPad. I had to go back into the Time Machine to retrieve them.
I re-synced the iPad. It took about 10 minutes doing step 1, backing up. However, it froze at about 95% complete. I thought it was just going slow again (last time was hours!), so I went to bed. I woke up this morning and it was still frozen. I ejected the iPad from the sidebar window and stopped the sync by clicking the little black "X" in the message window.
I shut down iTunes and restarted my MacBook. I re-synced and it skipped the Step 1, Backing Up and went in to Step 2. It completed the sync moving over the movies, but no photos or music.
I re-synced immediately afterward (after disconnecting and reconnecting the device) and got a message about iTunes not being able to back up my iPad due to another syncing in process. It still synced and this time it moved about 256 photos. Not sure why- maybe I had "Sync recent 1000 events" or something checkmarked in the iTunes Sync window.
I re-synced again immediately afterward (also disconnecting and reconnecting first) and got the same message about iTunes not being able to back up my iPad. It still synced the rest of the sync process, but this time it moved about a dozen songs around. I don't know why I each time I sync it does different things and I get the error messages.
My iPad seems to be giving me issues with syncing, anyone have any idea what is going on or how to resolve it?
    Thanks!

    1. Some people have reported slow syncing with anything but the iPad's own USB cable (e.g. using a US cable from an iPhone/iPod). Try different cables
    2. More work - disable iTunes syncing completely, then re-enable a bit at a time, e.g. one movie at a time, one playlist at a time, one photo album at a time. There are periodic reports of syncing issues caused by a bit of media that's been corrupted, and this (tedious) approach allows you to identify where the problem might be.
    3. If that fails, do a clean restore back to factory settings, then progressively re-enable syncing as above.
    Hope this helps

  • Strange Catalog Issue or bug. Help, photos disappeared help?

My images disappeared in the catalog. They are not missing, they are just not visable. I think there is a bug in the Fliter section.
Let me explain. I have one Main folder with 5 Sub folders. All those folders contain random amounts of images. (i.e. the path would be...  Photo/2010/BeachShoot, or Photo/2008/PartyPics... etc).
I imported 5 years of images, hence 5 Sub Folders. I was randomly flagging images to be rejected with the 'x' key. Basically routine maintenance... flag so many, then call up only the rejected photos in the grid view, select all, then delete. Remove the Flag Filter... repeat process over and over...   Basic, simple work...
Now... doing the exact some thing.. I removed all Flag filters and my images are no longer appearing in the catalog. I tested, by turning on flags, off flags.. etc. The images did not accidentally get deleted. I checked my hard drive location. Images are there. I rebooted the machine, I opened up another catalog, to trick it back... did not work. I tried to re-import the images.. but it says they are already in the catalog.
Strange part: On the Left Sidebar window, under Catalog "All Photographs" it shows the correct number of photos in the catalog. However... the strange part... Under "Folders" in the Left Sidebar beneath Catalogs my Main Folder shows "Zero" number of images. But, if I click on a sub root folder where the images reside, they number changes from Zero to the correct number of images and my images reappear on the screen as normal..
The work around... click on every subfolder...
    The solution... Unsure? Help!

  • Audio Sync issues - PLEASE help

I have created many videos in iMovie '09.    I have used the HD setting for them, 1280x720 even though they were shot in SD format.  I have uploaded them to YouTube and they all view just fine.  They all viewed just fine in Quicktime version 7.6.6, as well.
I have been doing this for years now, since at least 2009, and all video/audio has worked flawlessly together.
My most recent problem (past few months) has been that I am now running Mac OS X version 10.6.8.    My iTunes is 10.4  and my Quicktime is now 10.0
And now my audio and video WILL NOT SYNC.
I need help very badly because I have a presentation on Saturday and I need to load a bunch of videos (in the same viewer window) and have those videos play in a loop, one right after the other, while I'm talking to prospective clients.
I put these same movies into Quicktime Player 7 version 7.6.6  and they play just fine, still -  I just tested this on my imac and my macbook.
I need these videos to play in my iTunes, but the audio/video sync issues have ruined my video play.
Can someone PLEASE help me remedy this situation.  I would be forever grateful. I have casually searched for an answer, repeatedly but I need to remedy this by Friday night.
    Thank you so much,
    YahYah

What format are you using in iTunes to play them back?  Are these the exact same files as the one, you are playing back in Quicktime 7?
