Help: Stuck in an infinite loop with firmware update

Need some help here.
I have a 2013 21.5" iMac, running Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.
Recently, during a firmware update, my kids pulled the cord (they claim innocence).  Now, when I boot the machine, it goes to the white firmware update screen, does the full progress bar, and then shuts down.
It doesn't restart itself.
When I power it back on, it does the firmware update again.
How can I fix this?  I have access to other Macs, USB keydrives, Firewire cable, etc.  Just need to know exactly what to do.  Tried searching the web, but didn't find an answer for this situation.  I'd rather resolve myself than truck it down to the Apple Store.

You can try this:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
If that doesn't work, see below.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Igxprd 32, device driver stuck in an infinite loop

    Just attempted to reset a hard drive on our T61 to its factory settings (Windows XP) using the "Recovery CD Set"  (rescue and recovery cd, supplemental product recover cd, and 6 product recovery cd's).  During the final step, the computer reboots itself; however, Windows can't load.  I keep getting an error on a small blue screen, referencing a problem with "igxprd32" and that the device driver got stuck in an infinite loop.  How can I fix this issue.  (Product ID 6465CT0)  Thank you!

    Kindly try to boot the system into Safe mode and then uninstall the display driver.
    After this you should able too boot the system into normal mode. Download the latest driver from lenovo website

  • How do I cancel a sub vi stuck in an infinite loop?

    Hi,
    I am attempting an implementation of the Constrained Nonlinear Optimization sub vi.  It works perfectly 99.9% of the time but gets stuck the other .1% of the time.  It is supposed to time out when it cannot find a solution, but it is failing to do so.  Consequently my VI regularly crashes.
    Apparently this is a known issue with this subvi.  The NI whitepaper mentions that this is caused by a subvi while loop that can get stuck in an infinite loop.  The work around is suggested to be to add a counter to the loop and exit it after a certain number of iterations.
    I can find the infinite loop occuring in the subvi.  But the sub vi opens as a clone and will not let me edit it.  How do I work around that?
    Failing that, is there a way from the main vi to cancel the optimization vi after a certain time so that the program can move on?
    Suggestions would be appreciated.

    Abort the program. Press ctrl+M when you have VI opened as clone. This will open it in edit mode.

  • HT4623 my ipad 3 has become stuck in a recovery loop after an update what do i do??

    i recently updated my ipad only to have it stuck in a recovery loop befor the update had even finished. i have tried everything and i cannot seem to fix it without restoring the ipad is there any way around puting it back to factory settings

    Yes, unfortunately you will lose everything unless you have a backup that you can restore from after you restore the iPad.
    You will be able to download virtually all of your purchased content again at no charge as long as you use the same Apple ID that you bought it with and as long as the content is still available if the iStore where you bought it.
    I know that nobody wants to hear this when they get into this situation, but that's why it's so important to backup and backup with regularity.

  • Help on how to make an infinite loop with the same space on all images

    HI:
    I made a movie clip with infinite  loop in which there are images that move from right to left something simple like a marquee, and each image has a blank space between  them, but between last and first image there is a more space, how I can do to  make all images have an equal space between each one and that the motion never stops.

    Thanks for your time and answers my friend, but I'm still not be able to achieve what I want, I forgot to tell that I'm doing this by layers, let's say, I have 5 images, (in fact I have like 50 images converted to movie clip symbols) each image has it's own layer, layer 1, layer 2, layer 3, layer 4, layer 5, then I put a 200 frame motion tween on all layers at 30 fps, then I arranged layer 1 on the first frame to the frame 200, the second layer from frame 50 to frame 250, third layer from frame 100 to frame 300, fourth layer from frame 150 to frame 350, and fifth layer from frame 200 to frame 400, by this I mean I put a 50 frame of space on each image but if you can see, the last image has a duration from frame 200 to frame 400, and there's nothing on frame 250 where it is supposed to be another image to match the same blank space of all the others, the movie clip restarts on the frame 400, and there's a 150 frames of blank space between the last image and the first image, I put the gotoandplay on the frame 250, but it abruptly restarts the movie.
    Is there another way to do this ?
    Am I doing something wrong ?
    Please I really really need help on this.
    Thanks

  • My Ipod is stuck in an infinite loop not like the others so far discussed

    Today out of the blue my 5th Gen ipod displays the starts making an ominous clicking noise, displays the "sad ipod face" and then starts flashing "battery very low: please wait" then it shuts off the apple icon appears and the whole thing starts over. I've tried to boot it in Disk mode which I managed once right after it happened but I was hesitant to restore because I was at work and would loose all my songs. It then proceeded to freeze and now is stuck back in this infinite loop. I plugged it to two different computers and a car charger and nothing seems to make it charge but it had at least half a charge before it started with this thing. Someone Help Me Please!!!
    30gb 5th gen ipod   Windows XP Pro

    Here is a pretty comprehensive post about the sad iPod icon. Be aware that it's quite involved and contains some info that will almost certainly void the warranty. If your iPod is still within the warranty period, you should use that option first.

  • IPod nano 3G goes into eternal loop with firmware 1.0.2 - fixed with 1.0.3?

    After automatically upgrading to firmware 1.0.2, my iPod nano would enter an eternal loop (apple logo appears/disappears/appears/... until battery is empty) when ejecting from iTunes. The only way of resurrecting it was entering disk mode manually, then connecting & restoring original settings through iTunes. However, then the same problem was seen again when ejecting. I replaced the iPod twice, but both (brand new) devices showed exactly the same problem, right out of the box. I re-installed iTunes as well, no effect. Finally I asked (and got) my money back and returned the iPod. Has anyone else seen the same problem and does anyone know whether firmware update 1.0.3 has fixed the issue? I may then consider to buy another iPod...

    Thank you for the suggestion. I tried this with the last iPod I received, which already showed firmware 1.0.2 when connecting it to iTunes (i.e. without upgrading) and the described problem. I followed instructions for replacing the two files indicated with the 1.0.1 ones downloaded from the web, but iTunes still claimed to have firmware 1.0.2 on the iPod and the problems remained. Though Apple documentation claims that there is an option to set back the firmware to an earlier version, this option does not seem to exist in the Windows version, I only had the option to search for an upgrade or leave things as they are, so I was stuck with 1.0.2

  • In infinite loop with "support" trying to fix forg...

    First, I searched for an issue like mine and posted in it's thread hoping that we could both get help but their solution is part of our problem so here is a new thread.
    My wife needs help on recovering her Skype email and or password and, of course, she has no access to login so I am here on her behalf (she is sitting next to me). The provided solution does NOT work as it puts her into an infinite loop of "Thank you for contacting Skype Customer Service." messages telling her to go and fill out a form ( https://support.microsoft.com/skype/hostpage.aspx?language=en&locale=en-us&oaspworkflow=start_1.0.0.... ) with the exact same info we have entered 4 times so far! PLEASE tell us how to get to REAL help with her issue. SR 1285591565, SR 1285671840, SR 1285702596, SR 1285752888 are the Support Reference numbers we have so far.

    Go to Solution.

    I FINALY got an intelligent response to my wife's issue, they claim they don't have enough info to verify her as the owner even though they accept our monthly payment for over a year now and I included more than enough info to link the account to us. Did I provode 5 friend's addresses? No, because she didn't HAVE THAT MANY! Did we provide 2 numbers she called? NO, because SHE HASN'T CALLED ANY! Did we include the date she signed up? No, because it was well over a year or two ago and we have no idea when it was! We included the EXACT amount we last paid, the date it was paid, one contact (out of the 2 MAYBE 3 she had) and could have easily answered other questions NOT ASKED had we been able to comunicate with a human instead of dealing with canned responces!
    %^&* YOU SKYPE! Your "support" is a JOKE!

  • Help me pls! - Infinite loop!!

    Dear Guys,
    I am totally lost in my codes, pls help, TQ:
    import java.io.*;
    public class opReadLine {
         public opReadLine() {} //class constructor
         public static void main(String args[]) {
              FileReader inFile;
              BufferedReader inData;
              try {
                   inFile = new FileReader("test.cfg");
                   inData = new BufferedReader(inFile);
                   String temp = inData.readLine();
                   do {
                        System.out.println("The UID is: " + temp);
                   } while (temp != "END");
                   inData.close();
              catch (IOException ie) {
              ie.printStackTrace();
    Content of "test.cfg":
    END
    note: there is no blank line above "END"!!
    Rgds,
    Daniel

    Sorry I forgot to state the problem I am facing and the code I actually wanted.
    I want my code to read from a file line by line until it meets the word "END".
    However, I found there is a big syntax problem in:
    do {
    } while (temp != "END");
    The result for the code above is infinite loop of System.out.println("The UID is: " + temp);
    However,
    when I changed the code to:
    do {
    } while (temp == "END");
    it will execute "System.out.println(The UID is: " + temp) once and stops.
    In other words, the code recognizes END, but why when I try to compare with !=, it gives me problem??
    Pls help! TQ

  • IMovie 08 slideshow infinite loop - with Applescript and Automator?

    As many people I try to use iMovie for a slide show with an infinite loop. But there is no button inside the program for it. I don't want to export the project to use the loop function of Quicktime. Because that means compression of the slide show photos - Export with Quicktime: H.264, Best Quality.
    I already compressed the photos with JPG in High Resolution (Photoshop) and dropped them into the project. The result of double compression is not fine (enough). And the amount of data increases.
    So I tried to program a short Applesript for an infinite loop in iMovie. First it seemed to be very simple. iMovie "cmd g" starts the fullscreen presentation of the project. At the end you press "spacebar" and it runs again.
    (Finder object)
    tell application "System Events"
    tell application "iMovie" to activate
    keystroke "g" using command down
    end tell
    (Pause)
    tell application "System Events"
    tell application "iMovie" to activate
    keystroke "space bar" (or "arrow left"?)
    end tell
    (infinite loop)
    Unfortunately it didn't loop. At the end of the presentation the screen remains black. Only a beep signals that the Applescript pressed the spacebar. What did I wrong?
    In some groups people say it's impossible to program a script for iMovie because it does not support Applescript.
    Blackletter

    I made a simple mistake in the code.
    wrong:
    keystroke "space bar"
    right:
    keystroke space
    Now the infinite loop runs in iMovie!

  • My ipod nano 7th generation is stuck in a restore loop with a white screen. Now it won't turn on anymore. What to do?

    My new Ipod Nano 7th generation is stuck in a restore loop. Here is what happened: I added music to it using the latest version of iTunes, the colored bar at the bottom of the summary tab in iTunes showed my that I added it and I disconnected it to listen to the music. As I turned it on, it told me that there is neither music nor pictures on it. So I connected it again to my computer and iTunes told me that I had to restore. Which I did following all the steps but it keep telling me that I need to restore it. After three times of restore it, I disconnected it from my PC and turned it off. Now it won't turn on anymore - even though the battery is fully charged - and when I connect it to iTunes, iTunes tell me "The iPod software updater could not be contacted. The server does not support this version of iTunes." Well, I just downloaded the newest version a couple of minutes ago from the apple website. My iPod stays black. What shall I do?

    Hi clarity,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
    You may want to first try removing and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes by following the steps in this article:

  • Help with Firmware Update... Doesn't recognize built-in isight

    Hi,
    I just installed the firmware update and now the computer will not recognize the built in isight (in ichat preferences it says there's no camera attached and when you launch photobooth it says there's no camera attahced). Anyone have any ideas? Since the firmware update was successfully installed I'm not sure if'how I can back out of it and if so what to do next...
    Thanks!
    Michael

    I just applied the firmware update and had the same problem. So I restarted and all is well. Photo Booth recognizes the iSight and iMovie does as well. Did you try restarting after the iSight wasn't recognized?

  • E-61 changed keyboard with firmware update

    Hi,
    I'm a U.S. E-61 user. I recently upgraded the firmware on my device using the phone update software found at http://www.europe.nokia.com/A4176089?E61.
    Everything works fine except for my keyboard. Now, my "@" sign, along with a few other keys, displays an Arabic character. Additionally, some shift/function keys are incorrect.
    Anyone have any idea about how to get back to my previous keyboard layout?
    Thanks,
    Talib

    I have an E61, code 05300096, which I now understand should be the Euro-Z with an Arabic keyboard ... but mine has what I believe is the UK keybord.
    I'm one of the many that are now suffering with the keyboard layout issue after using the Software Updater to move to the new firmware (2.0618.06.05).
    First ... to anyone reading this, check your location code under the battery BEFORE doing this firmware update. Unfortunately I did not learn of this forum until after I started trying to fix this problem.
    I've read assertions that mine is a grey market phone but I'm now angry beyond words that I bought this phone from a legit vendor, paid retail price ... and the keyboard worked fine before the update ... and Nokia's not providing me a means to update with an alternate product code to correct my keyboard issue ... and there is no way to go back.
    Some vendors even caution about firmware updates, to the tune of "update only if you are directed to" where Nokia's web site recommends updating when software is available.
    This is not a $3 phone. If Nokia is can't help us (there are many on the Internet citing this same issue), then I'm sure all us impacted by this will think twice before laying out big bucks for another Nokia product.
    Help us out please.
    Thanx! ... Phil

  • Whats on with firmware updates?

    hi again,ive been planing to update my firmware to its new version becoz maybe updating firmware can resolve my problem bout connecting to secured wifi.but i was confused and little bit scared becoz of some comments and opinions of some user here and outside this site.theres a good comments but also have bad.so i want to know if updating a firmware is good and really need for a phone?does it fixed some problem,errors,bugs?what if not?what if the effect is not good and just causing a problem,can i set that again to its original settings and firmware like when i buy?

    You cannot roll back your fw after updateing. There are also a tiny tiny bit of risk of getting in trouble by updating, but prepairing your computer for it, it often goes verry well.
    I've always updated my devices n95 8 gb, e71, 5800, n97 and never had any issues with the update process nor having the feeling of that the older fw was better.
    But if youre device is working pretty well for you, and you've searched around a checked that you don't need any of the new features that a fw may contain, - you might as well be fine without updating.
    Before updating I always make sure I've backed up my phone content and made sure I've no computer problems and that my computer is running the latest os updates etc. - I usually turn off AV and firewall too.
    Then I update and after that I perform a soft reset and a format of mass memory before reinstalling my back up. - By doing these steps when updating, I've always got a good experience and got a faster and more responsive device.
    If youre FW update should make youre device worse, you can always take it to a Nokia care point and let them straght it out. - After you've of course reinstalled the update.
    All in all, I would update - and if you do the right things it's safe to update.
    New fw can bring new bugs to the device, but it usually fixes more that it ruins!
    Check if you can update by FOTA (firmware over the air) on your device. - I would use that method over NSU/ovisuite on your pc any time.

  • HELP Boot Camp won't start after firmware update

    Hi Guys,
    I just bought a XP CD and installed 10.4.6 and the latest firmware update for my XP installation. So I downloaded Boot Camp, and when I go to the assistant in utilities a window pops up and it says "You must update your computers firmware to use this assistant"
    So when I check MacBook Pro SMC Firmware update also in utilities it confirms I have the latest firmware 1.0.
    I have repaired permissions and still nada...
    Can anyone determine what is wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Pete

    i think the SMC update != overall system firmware. did you update ur machine to firmware version 1.01? heres a link http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookproearly2006firmwareupdate101.html
