HELP! STUCK ON START-UP SCREEN

I was backing up all of my pics on a flash drive, and the next time i turned on my mac mini, it was stuck on the initial start up screen with the gray apple and the revolving pinwheel type icon. I let it sit on that screen for a while and nothing happened. So i let it sit off for a few hours and when i turned it on again i got the same problem. So from my iPod i searched for solutions that seemed similar to my problem (i was told to do the processes of holding down the power button while inserting the power cord, holding down the option key at start up and the hold down the command-option-p-r keys during start up) Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

If you have the mini's original install disk (the one it came with), insert that in the optical drive, and reboot the system with the C key held down. This should result in the system booting to the installer rather than the hard drive. You'll need a wired, USB, keyboard for this, and only the original install disk from the system, or a full retail copy of MacOS 10.4 or 10.5.
If the system doesn't boot to the install disk, and it is known to be the original that came with the mini (or retail Tiger or Leopard), then like the first poster, you may well have a hardware fault. To be sure, reboot but this time with the Option key (ALT on Windows keyboards) held down to put the system into the boot loader screen, where after a delay of a couple of minutes, it should show you the available MacOS volumes it could boot from. Likely this would only be the install disk since the internal drive may well be corrupt. However, selecting the install disk should allow you to boot to it from there.
Assuming you manage to get the system booted to the install disk, don't run the installer itself. Pull down the Utilities menu and select Disk Utility. On the left it should show both the install disk and the internal drive. Select the internal drive and then click the 'repair disk' button. This will check the internal drive and attempt to repair any problems. If it finds any problems and reports 'error on exit', indicating it wasn't able to resolve them, click repair disk once again (sometimes two goes works when one doesn't). If you still get the same result, you will either need to use a third-party utility such as Alsoft's DiskWarrior to try and repair the drive, or you will likely need to reformat and reinstall the system. Beware that doing the latter will cause any data to be lost, so should not be attempted until you have either recovered and backed up your data, or you have decided to erase everything anyway.

  • 3000 n200 stuck on start up screen help!

Hello, I am a total technophobe so have not got a clue how to solve the problem I am having with my 3000 n200. On booting up the machine it is simply getting stuck on the start up screen telling me to 'please wait' for hours without progressing to the stage where I am asked for my password. Have run the rescue and recovery package and the CPU multi core test returned a misconfigured result, and my symbios standards test failed, any ideas if this is the cause of the problem, and if so what I need to do to repair the fault? All help great fully received.

  • MBP stuck at start up screen.. Help?

My 17" macbook pro is stuck at the start up screen showing the "loading" circle and the apple logo... have tried to turn off and on with no luck.. have even left it on all night.. this also did nothing.. Please help..

If your hard disk passes the verification test in Disk Utility, the Mac will not start up in safe mode or single-user mode (command+S held during boot), you've repaired permissions, there are 3 things left to try:
    1) Reset the NVRAM. To do so, start with the computer off and turn it on while holding commandoption+pr. Hold those keys down until the Mac restarts.
    2) Reset the SMC. To do so, remove the AC adaptor, take the battery out of the notebook, and hold down the power button for 10 seconds.
    3) Run the Apple Hardware test. To do so, insert the first of the two install disks that came with your Mac and hold down D during startup. Run the extended hardware test (it will take an hour or two, depending on how much RAM you have) and see what the results are. Do not run this test with any peripherals plugged into the notebook.

  • Stuck at 'Starting Windows' screen! Help please :(

    Hello guys and girls.
I have a problem with an Acer Aspire 8920 laptop.
To start off with the back light on the screen was the first issue. After turning the laptop on the screen would turn off. I would close the lid and open it again and the screen would light up as normal and then after a few seconds it would go off again.
I wasn't sire at first what it was so I plugged it into the telly via HDMI and that was fine. I looked closely and I could see very faintly windows had loaded fine. After that I knew it was the backlight.
Eventually after more research I bought a new inverter off the web. Few days later it arrived and I replaced it. It solved the issue but has caused a couple more.
I get stuck at the starting windows screen no matter what I do. I have a copy of W7 on a disc, on USB and if I try and load up W7 as normal. If I try and boot in safe mode it always gets stuck at 'Loaded: \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\avgidsha.sys' every time.
Also after replacing the inverter the brightness of the screen now 'pulses'. Thats the best way I can describe it. When it does pulse it doesn't go off completely, just a little brighter and darker.
I have looked online and found that people were getting stuck at the same place and the cause of that was a power supple issue with custom built PCs. I think that maybe I might have a the same problem because of this new inverter?
Any input would be great into this. I appreciate your help.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Do you mean that you're unable to logon to Windows no matter via normal start or safe mode, and startup repair doesn't work with the disk?
For this error "gets stuck at 'Loaded: \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\avgidsha.sys' every time", hope this link can help you

  • HT4061 ipod 4th generation stuck on start up screen, won't do anything (the black screen with the silverish apple). Help?

This morning, i tried turning on my ipod (4th generation) and it is stuck at  the black start upp screen (the screen that has the siverish apple when you have first turned on your device). It has been stuck like this for about a half an hour now, and I'm not sure what to do. This would be the second time in at least three months I have had problems with it (around December it went into recovery mode and i had to reset it to the factory settings). Is there anyway I can handle this at home, or do i have to go into an apple store to have this fixed? Also, I plugged it into my computer and it didnt show up in itunes like it did last time. Thanks! (I'm pretty sure its the IOS 6 because i have not updated it since then).

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPhone 3g Stuck On Start-Up Screen. This Is Horrible. Need Help!

Today in class I was downloading apps and my iPhone crashed and restated but when it restarted it will not go past the start-up screen. This is really making me mad because I gave it a 8 hour charge during the night and it finally ran out of battery life at about 3 and I thought "hey maybe when I get home i'll charge it and it will work again. Nope. I read many articles on here about this issue, but none really helped me. I've tried to restart it like over 50 times, and when I plug it up to itunes it freezes itunes and when I unplug it from the computer it unfreezes this. This really makes me mad because I spend 300 dollars on a phone I thought was amazing. Yeah its amazing but, it has ALOT of problems. So many that i've got to the point where I kind of want to return it to the store. I love it but if I can't fix it...I don't know what I will do. Please Help Anybody! If I restore it will I lose my phone numbers and everything? Will I be able to restore it?

    I'm going onto my 3rd iPhone 3G.
The first had screen issue that would go black and other bugs.
The second worked fine until my provider called me for my new serial number.
They told me to key in a #??# code that brought up my serial number, however when I tried to charged the phone right after it was dead.
I can plug it in and it will charge, and go to a the apple logo screen and that's it. It does not appear in iTunes so I can't restore. I've forced shut down 50+ times and it will quit but on restart it will never pass the apple logo. When I plug it into my Dell it give me an error message the the iPhone cannot be used because of an error there are come numbers but I did not write them down.
So I'm now waiting over a week to get the third phone.
I'm a little ticked and scared, what is this happens when my warranty is expired. I love the phone but the quality is not Apple's best.

  • Cannot install Windows 7 Pro; gets stuck on "Starting Windows" screen

I have read dozens of posts on this topic but none has helped yet.
My system has Windows 8 with UEFI. I want to install Windows 7 Pro on another partition. I have turned off Secure Boot in the UEFI/BIOS. When I try to install Windows 7 Pro from a DVD it shows "windows is loading files" and then gets stuck on "Starting Windows"
for ever. This happens even when no USB peripherals are attached.
I have already wasted many days on this. I hope someone can help.
    Thanks!

    Hi friends of the internet
I have been reading several forums regarding the issue of installing windows 7 (64 bit) to a computer that have had windows 8 installed previously or just a GPT formatted disk.
    My Case:
Windows version installed: Windows 7 Professional N with Service Pack 1 (x64) or Windows 7 Professional (x64)
    Computer used: Samsung laptop
    Model Code: NP53U4C-A02SE
    See the specks here:
    http://www.samsung.com/dk/consumer/computer-peripherals/notebook/notebook/NP535U4C-A02SE-spec
Create a USB install disk that not freezes at ”starting windows” screen:
First I followed this great guide (Thanks Daniel):
    http://
    hodgin.ca/2012/10/02/creating-a-uefibios-windows-7-usb-and-installing-to-gpt-partitions/
    STOP AFTER STEP 13!
    1. Open a command line in administrator mode
    2. run DISKPART
    3. type LIST DISK
    4. Look for the disk number that represents your USB drive
    5. type SELECT DISK # where # represents the number of your USB drive. Get this right or you will wipe a different drive out.
    6. type CLEAN
    7. type CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    8. type SELECT PARTITION 1
    9. type ACTIVE
    10. type FORMAT fs=fat32 quick
    11. type assign
    12. The drive should now be formatted and marked as active and fat32. Do not format the drive as NTFS or you will only be able to boot into the installer in BIOS mode.
    13. Now you will need to copy the contents of the windows 7 install dvd to the USB with a regular copy paste from windows explorer.
Here comes a very weird hack... I do not know why it works, but I think it is all about flash drive data structure. I did these steps on a win 7 prof. computer.
    (Let’s assume it’s drive E:)
Make a copy of your e:\efi\microsoft folder to e.g. your desktop.
    Delete the e:\efi folder
Copy the \efi folder from a windows 8 installation disk (I used Windows 8 (x64) Professional) to the e:\efi folder. Sorry I cannot provide this for you.
Here comes the weird part. Then delete e:\efi\microsoft you just copied from the win 8 installation disk.
Copy the \microsoft folder form the desktop to e:\efi\microsoft
Resume the guide from step 18.:
    http://
    hodgin.ca/2012/10/02/creating-a-uefibios-windows-7-usb-and-installing-to-gpt-partitions/
    18. Insert the USB in the machine and turn it on and boot into the UEFI/BIOS loader and check for boot options. On the ASUS Zenbook it detected two boot options on the USB drive. One was UEFI and one was regular BIOS. I made the
UEFI option the first choice and restarted the machine.
    My bios setup was:
    Secure Boot = Disable
OS Mode Selection = CSM and UEFI OS
Boot Device Priority = I made the UEFI option the first choice and restarted the machine.
    The installation should start normal.
    E.g. See this guide:
    www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/186875-uefi-unified-extensible-firmware-interface-install-windows-7-a.html
    What I did was:
    Select custom installation (Advanced).
    Click Drive options (Advanced).
Delete all partitions (this might not be needed). When I did not delete all partitions I was asked every time after the install, during start up by the windows boot manager to select ether win 8 or win 7.
Click new (DO NOT make Changes in the size of the disk), apply, see NOTE!
Edit the Primary partition as you want it e.g. divide it to more partitions.
Select the one you will install windows on and do a normal install.
I do not make changes in the Bios after install. The Boot priority is automatic set to “Windows boot manager”. If I change the boot mode back to OS Mode Selection = UEFI OS, the computer will freeze at the “starting windows” screen again.
All this worked for me, good luck. There might be more to it, but this is a start.
By the way, the start up time for a MBT install was 37 s. And for the GPT it was 49 s.
Remember if we stand on each other’s shoulders we will reach higher
    J.
NOTE: Here the installation program should create three partitions automatically!
Partition 1 - System - The EFI System partition that contains the NTLDR, HAL, Boot.txt, and other files that are needed to boot the system, such as drivers.
Partition 2 - MSR - The Microsoft Reserved (MSR) partition that reserves space on each disk drive for subsequent use by operating system software.
Partition 3 - Primary - Where Windows is to be installed to.
If this isn’t the cast you are not installing in UEIF mode. To check for this (thanks again Daniel):
If you need to find out if you have booted into BIOS mode or UEFI mode when the installer starts you can press SHIFT+F10 when the welcome installer shows up to open a cmd prompt. from here you will likely be at X:\Sources. Type cd .. to
go back a dir and move into \Windows\Panther\
    Then type notepad setupact.log
Within this file do a ctrl+f and search for
        Callback_BootEnvironmentDetect: Detected boot environment:
It should either say BIOS or UEFI.
To check if your disk is in the GPT format.
    Open the command prompt.
    Type: DISKPART
    Type: List Disk
See for the star (*) in the GPT column

  • Trying to load windows onto new hard drive from usb, stuck at "starting windows" screen

So I am actually down grading from windows 8 pro to windows 7 pro both 64. I was finally able to get the comp to not only recongize, but load from the usb. My problem is that when it does start up, I get stuck at the "Starting windows" screen. I was wondering maybe I need to format a patition first? It is a new warranty hard drive from Lenovo. (Kind of funny how that send only cds for a laptop that has no cd drive) I looked into formatting from a usb, have had some trouble finding a reliable way.....thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi davefromsb,
Windows 8 computers come with a "UEFI" bios and therefore will come with "Secure Boot" as well as "UEFI Only" booting enabled. Disable secure boot if you haven't already, and switch the booting method to "Legacy Only". The problem is most likely that the Windows 7 image that was burned to the USB stick was burned using a MBR partition scheme instead of a GPT one. Hope this helps.

  • HP ProBook 4440s stuck on starting windows screen

    Hello Everyone,
I am in desperate need of help!!  I have a HP ProBook 440s laptop which was working perfectly fine on Friday.  Now today on Monday when I turn on the computer it gives me 2 options because it says Windows failed to start.....1) launch startup repair (recommended) or to start windows normally.  When I choose to to do the system repair it says loading files and when done a box pops up and says " The exception unknown software exception (0x40000015) occurred in the application at location 0x40161651 and then says click on OK to terminate the program.  After I click ok, it says the installed program cannot start and to click ok to turn off the computer.  Then back to square 1 with turning on the computer with my 2 options mentioned above.  If I try to start windows normally then it will just stay stuck on the starting windows screen.  I have tried hitting F8 to try and launch windows in safe mode the screen will just say loading window files and please wait at the bottom....but it will just stay stuck on this screen with nothing happening even after 45 minutes!!!  All I want to do is to be able to access my pictures that I failed to backup!  I am ok with getting a new laptop, but just desperately need a way to get my pictures off this laptop!!  Any help will definitely definitely be needed and appreciated!!!  Thank you so much in advance!!!

    Hi,
Take out the hard drive, connect it to another PC using SATA to USB adapter. Using Windows Explorer in that PC, copy everything you need to salvage to another external drive.

  • Macbook pro stuck on start up screen

    Help.
My mac is stuck on the start up screen with the spinning wheel. I've tried everything i can find short of reinstalling the os. I just completed a software update for airport extreme, and a couple other programs(didn't pay much attention to what they were) Did the restart and now I'm jammed. I've tried booting from the disk; I repaired the disk and nothing, so I tried to verify permissions and it quits out on me.
Am I screwed? Can I do anything else, or do I need to suck it up and reinstall. Ugh.

I'm having the same problem. Both my friend and I have the same computer and we just did a software update from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9 and have the same start screen and spining icon. Have you any info for me? I've been folowing this post. I'm sure it's related to the update because two seperate computers are doing this both at the same house. Both right after the software update 30 minutes apart. They both had an error downloading 10.4.9 the only option was a restart, and that's when the trouble began. Any way of going back to 10.4.8? When I ran disk utilities it shows 10.4.9 on the harddrive. My problem is I can't install the OS off the install disk because it says "A newer operating system exists" my only option is to erase and reinstall and that isn't an option.

  • App gets stuck on start-up screen at launch iPod Touch 5th Gen - full disk issue

Can't do anything. IPod touch 5th generation.
    thoughts?
This is all that I can see...
A couple more notes... I have the latest version of iOS and 2.7GB of free space.
I have rebooted to release memory and it still gets stuck on the intro screen.
Are there any users out there who have this working on a 5th Gen iPod Touch?

    Hi,
there are some users that have run into the same issue, we have not been able to reproduce this issue which means that we need your help.
If you could give us the crash logs that would help a lot, they are available at the following locations on your desktop once you've connected the device to it:
    OSX: /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/DeviceName/PSTouchphone....log
    Windows: C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\DeviceName\PSTouchphone....log
    The known workarounds are:
Uninstall and reinstall from iTunes with USB (normally works)
If that doesn't work the only known workaround is to upgrade your iOS version.
Did PS Touch always behave like this on your iPod? I.e. - when did you first install and start PS Touch?
If not can you recall how you installed PS Touch the first time?
Over iTunes or AppStore? And do you recall how you updated it?
    thanks,

    Hi,
First, you can  try to repair your Windows 7 systems to login:
Restart Computer and continue to click F8, you would enter into WIN RE, choose the
repair computer option--->System Recovery Optionsà Select the
Startup Repair option. Then Startup Repair will now scan your computer to attempt to find and fix any startup problems.
After repair computer, I would suggest you to put the computer in Clean Boot and check which non Microsoft program is causing the issue. To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues,
you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
Finally, after you fix it up, you can make
    Steps for Normal startup:
    1. Click
    Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type
msconfig, and then click OK. The System Configuration Utility dialog box is displayed.
    3. Click the
General tab, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services, and then click
    OK.
    4. When you are prompted, click
    Restart to restart the computer.
You may also install the latest display drivers and device drivers compatible for Windows 7.
