Help: successfully upgraded to 10.5, logged in and a kernel panic repeats
After successful upgrade to Leopard on my new iMac, I upgraded the iBook today. Successfully, I followed the prompts from Tiger 10.4.11, took about 1hr 10min. My iBook rebooted and then after about 20 rounds of spinning sticks, the login screen appeared. I logged in and spinning beach ball came up. A few moments later, the smoky window with white text and a power button behind it showed up telling me that iBook needs to be restarted. So I did, but that window is coming up every time I restart it and log in. Now what? From what I read this is a kernel panic and it happens after I log into the new leopard account. Does anyone know how to fix this? In many, many years of owning Macs, this is the first one of these where it panics. The good thing is, all my data is time machined on iMac, but still upgrading to Leopard was supposed to be a smooth experience, as shown in the Leopard video.

Help!!! Brand new MBP with Santa Rosa Kernel Panics when started with external HD firewire 800 after 20 sec...
I don't know what it could be???
Do you???
Thanx
JayI'm actually having a similar issue and I don't think its related to networking at all.
I'm currently working in a corporate environment where we deploy pre-built OS X images to machines. I recently upgraded my images to 10.4.10 before we got our first Santa Rosa machine. This image was built on a MacPro and worked on all Intel Macs down to a MacMini CoreSolo. When I deployed my prebuilt image to the SR MBP, it caused a kernel panic immediately.
Further investigation revealed previous builds of OS X, including 10.4.10 upgraded from any other model Intel Mac will kernel panic the SR MBP. Going backwards the SR Build of OSX will not work on any previous model Mac, as any other build typically does, but causes severe graphical distortion, as if it does not have the display drivers for the other Macs.
To make a long story short, I think your issue comes from the fact that your external hard drive has an older build of OS X 10.4 than the SR MBP will run (even though you may have upgraded it to 10.4.10). Anyone who can corroborate my story with some more testing, please chime in.
I haven't found a solution for this issue yet other than keeping a seperate Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo image for my deployments. -
VSC 4.2 Service Account Logging In and Out of vCenter Repeatedly
We are currently running VSC 4.2 with ONTAP 8.2P2 on vCenter 5.1 and the VSC service account is logging in and out of vCenter every 10 secs. I have run the steps below and still had the same issue. (Recommended on another thread...) • Log into the VSC server over RDP using an administrator account • Open a web browser and go to https://localhost:8143/Register.html • For troubleshooting purposes, re-register using an administrator account (local) • Make sure you're entering the IP addresses of the vCenter and VSC servers for the registration • Click the register button • Montor the sessions to see if there are still logins each 10seconds (after initial logins are completed)Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, IT
This is a new install of NetApp. We don't have anything on the storage yet. VSC 4.2 was installed on vCenter for performance testing right now. One thing I have noticed was, when I try accessing the VSC snap-in. It takes like 65secs to come up. That's not normal. -IT

Please not the issue is not occurring when I run in safe modeUnless you are using an illegal hackintosh, there should not be a VooDooHDA.kext in your /System/Library/Extensions/ folder. That is what is causing the panic.
If you are using a hackintosh rather than a real Mac, then we cannot help you further. -
Well, my iPad has kernel panics about everyday, when I get on facebook mostly. Basically, any app I get on it will either: freeze and flicker into a black home screen, or it will have a kernel panic and turn off. I am also having problems with it charging. When the iPad is on, it charges just fine. But when it dies and I plug the charger in, it doesn't recognize that it is charging. But, when I take the charger out, it thinks it is charging.

Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without be charged again. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this. -

com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily 1.4I don't see any obvious causes in your crash log so my guess is it's hardware. The most common item is RAM which could be:
1. Incorrect RAM (did you upgrade recently?)
2. Failed RAM, yes it does fail!
3. Unseated RAM, remove it and reseat firmly.
To test for RAM I'd recommend downloading Rember from:
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/15837/rember
I would also recommend studying Kernel Panics, Tutorial: Avoiding and eliminating Kernel panics & About "You need to restart your computer" (kernel panic) messages.
Good luck locating it. -
Help needed in interpreting panic log from kernel panic error
My G4 iBook has started giving me kernel panic errors, often immediately after starting up. I haven't installed any new software or RAM recently. I've done a clean system install (completely clean - not an archive and install) then downloaded the combo update for 10.4.11. But the kernel panics are still happening from time to time. I've looked at the panic log, but it means nothing to me, so I'm hoping someone can help:

Message was edited by: Lynn StephensonI didn't see anything that would indicate a specific problem. Understanding crash logs isn’t easy and it’s hard (sometimes impossible) to decipher the cause of the problem. Take a look at Apple’s Crash Reporter document at http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html
Also look at Tutorial: An introduction to reading Mac OS X crash reports

Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: *Testing RAM* @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.
May be a solution on one of these links.

Cheers, Tom -
Hi there i need some urgent help, i upgraded to ios 6.1.6 and now i cant seem to acces my app store and itunes.what do i need to do,its either blanc or msgs are encrypted.
Have you check the following?
Verify that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings
Ensure that your device is using the latest software.
If your issue is still unresolved, perform a software restore in iTune -
Can someone please help me decipher my kernel panic logs??
Recently I keep getting kernel panics while I am using Safari (Not sure if it's the only reason). The same thing happened everytimg when I played StarCraft(Download from Blizzard Website) on my Mac. I am not sure whether it's a software problem or a hardware problems. Can someone please decipher the logs for me?? Thank you so much!

Understanding crash logs isn’t easy and it’s hard (sometimes impossible) to decipher the cause of the problem. Take a look at Apple’s Crash Reporter document at http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html
Also look at Tutorial: An introduction to reading Mac OS X crash reports
http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060309075929717
Nothing "jumped out" in you crash log.
Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected? When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices except your monitor, keyboard and mouse. Do you experience the same problems?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: *Testing RAM* @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc?

Kernel Panic after 10.4.9 upgrade
I was getting unexpected application quits after a successful upgrade to 10.4.9 (from 10.4.8). The Apple Genius suggested repair disk and permissions - which I did (errors were found and fixed). But on restart I got a Kernel Panic whenever tried to load an application (iLife, Safari).
Genius checked out hardware and confirmed all OK - suggested an install and archive. My retail disk is for 10.4. I ran this and was able to boot OK. I took the opportunity to backup my user files to external disk. But iLife 6 would not run because it needs 10.4.3 or higher. Soooo, I downloaded 10.4.9 (combo), updated, re-booted and - yep Kernel Panic before I get to do anything.
I'm about to re-install 10.4 with archive. but where do I go from here? Then, I suspect your permissions are a bit out of sorts. Launch Disk Utility and repair the permissions and try downloading again. If still no go, create a new admin user account, log into it, and try downloading. If that's successful, then the problem lies within the old account, most likely a conflicting or corrupted preference file, and you'll have to sort that out.

Macbook having multiple kernel panic after upgrade to Maverick OS
I have been having problems with my mid-2010 MacBook since upgrading to Mavericks. It will have several kernel panic episodes a day. Originally I took it to the Apple Genius Bar and they recommended a complete reinstall of Mavericks. This did not stop the constant rebooting. I have found similar threads and I have included a copy of the latest kernel panic report (from just a few minutes ago) and a copy of a report form etrechek (a utility mentioned in another thread) If anyone has any idea what I'm looking for, I'd really appreciate the help.

9 MB Page-outsYou have the MacBookPro6,2—the Edsel of Macs. It may have the logic-board defect that was covered by this recall.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue that Apple calls "VST" (for "Video Switching Test.") Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the fault is present. However, according to reports, some units may pass the test, and yet still be deemed eligible for repair under the program. Your experience may vary.
Print the first page of the panic report, if any, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the recall only applies within three years of purchase. After that, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you may be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a "depot repair," which involves shipping the unit to a central repair facility and takes about two weeks. For that flat fee, anything found wrong with it should be fixed, not just the logic board.
The model was discontinued on February 24, 2011, so the recall has nominally ended. Some units may have been sold after that date by Apple as refurbished, or by resellers as new, and they might still be covered.
Some owners report that their unit was repaired under the program after the deadline had passed. Others report that the repair was covered by the extended warranty from a credit-card issuer. Again, your experience may vary.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. If you decide to pay for a new logic board, test thoroughly during the 90-day warranty period on the repair. Some owners have reported that they went through as many as three replacement boards before getting one that worked.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired free of charge, and you don't want to pay for the service, you may (or may not) be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching. To use the discrete graphics processor, you'll need a third-party utility to switch to it manually.
Often the problems start after an OS upgrade. If the upgrade was recent, and you have backups, then you can revert to a previous OS X version.
If you're dissatisfied with Apple's response, please keep in mind that no one here represents the company or can help with customer-service issues.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -

Kernel Panic - imac rebooting please help?
Hello
My 2009 iMac continues to reboot due to kernel panic during the past couple of week. It happes several times a day. I cannot find any specific cause and it seems to happen randomly. That is even when the computer is on standby. I hvae searched the web, but cannot find a solution. The problem is getting worse.
I have tried apple hardware test that detected no problems. I have upgraded the imac last yaer with a Samsung SSD and its running 6 gb ram. It has worked flawless until now. Should I consider buying a new Imac?
Here is the log:

Kernel panic log: can someone decipher this for me, if possible?
My brother has an iMac G4 with 512 MB of RAM. This computer used to be fine and then a few months ago, it started having random kernel panics. He wiped the drive and reinstalled the OS and it was fine for about 3 months.
Now it's kernel panicking randomly about 2 times a day, when checking email or burning a CD or just browsing the web. I can cause it to panic every time I try to repair the permission. On a hunch, I removed the user Library folder, logged out and back in again. The OS created a new user Library folder. I then tried repairing permissions. No panic. Through a process of elimination, I narrowed the culprit down to several preference files, including a couple of login-related plists. Individually none of these plists caused the panice, but together they did.
So I deleted those plists and used fresh ones. I tried repairing permissions. First time, no panic. Second time, no panic. Third time, panic.
I can't figure out what's messing his system up. He has an external hard drive, a printer, usb camera, and an iPod attached. Disconnecting those doesn't stop the kernel panics. I also ran Apple's Hardware Test several times and it found nothing.
Here is the panic log. I would really appreciate someone's input and suggestions.

Why reward points?(Quoted from Discussions Terms of Use.)
The reward system helps to increase community participation. When a community member gives you (or another member) a reward for providing helpful advice or a solution to their question, your accumulated points will increase your status level within the community.
Members may reward you with 5 points if they deem that your reply is helpful and 10 points if you post a solution to their issue. Likewise, when you mark a reply as Helpful or Solved in your own created topic, you will be awarding the respondent with the same point values. -
Upgraded and now get Kernel Panic
Upgraded tonight and immediately got Kernel Panic's and now cannot boot from disk or in safe mode. Please please help. This is why I didn't want to upgrade.
I've been running SL for over a year on my 24" iMac. SL isn't the issue; most likely, bad RAM.
