HELP!!! Syncing iPhone 4 with iTunes says "wants to erase iPhone and sync to iTunes"

I created a ringtone in iTunes and I wanted to transfer it to my iPhone 4. It says my iPhone is assocated with another iTunes library and it needs to erase the iPhone and sync it with this iTunes. Is it going to erase EVERYTHING on my phone if I click erase and sync or just the music?

It will erase everything unless you use the iTunes library to which the iPhone was originally synced to.

You can't merge accounts, if you start using the gmail account for iCloud by logging out of the me ID in system preferences and back in using the gmail ID, you'll need to copy all your data in calendars etc to the gmail account. you also won't be able to use the me address for mail unless you add the me account as a secondary account at system preferences > mail, contacts and calendars.

Request help for synching iPod with iTunes after Windows re-install

I recently reformatted my hard-drive. I have installed iTunes. When I plug in my iPod (old Nano), I get a message asking me to "Erase and Sync" or "Transfer Purchases". My iPod has some purchased songs, and many songs ripped from my CD collection (mp3 format). I would like to have the entire iPod contents populate the new (empty) iTunes library. I am guessing that the Transfer option is the best of the two, but am worried about losing songs, since it would be a lot of work to re-rip the non-purchased songs. Will "Transfer Purchases" transfer all music?
I would appreciate any suggestions, before I proceed. Thanks in advance to any replies.

No it won't, it will only do what it says which is to transfer purchases, it won't transfer non-purchased items.

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. As for your purchased songs, the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Help on iphone and ipod touch sync

i have an ipod touch, and i just rescently purchased a iphone 4s. I want to use the same apple id for both, but i don't want all the apps and music i have now on my ipod touch. if i plug in my iphone on the same comp and itunes will it sync all the apps and music from my ipod or can i choose what i want to put on it.? im not sure how this will work.

You can use the same account with the devices and pick and choose what you want to sync. There are some settings in iOS that allow automatic downloading, just make sure that these are set to your liking.

Want to erase HD and install Mountain Lion

I have a mid-2009 macbook pro with osx lion. I just downloaded mountain lion and made a boot disk. I'd like to erase HD and install Mountain lion. I wanted to test the boot disk before proceeding, so I put it in, restarted holding "option". The options of selecting the HD, Recovery Drive, or the Boot Disk were presented. I selected the boot disk and nothing happens. I get the pale screen with progress circle in the middle and it goes on and on forever. However when I'm on the desktop, the boot disk opens just fine, and I can install from there. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this? I'd like to erase the HD but I'm afraid the boot disk won't load if I do, and I won't be able to install mountain lion (or anything for that matter).

Yes, you can use the InstallESD.dmg file from that and create a bootable USB thumb drive which you can boot from and install ML from that thumb drive.
Do you know how to extract the InstallESD.dmg file from that and use Disk Utility to Restore it to a USB thumb drive? You should be able to from within Mavericks.
Or you might be able to download DiskMaker X 3.0.3 and use that app along with an 8GB USB thumb drive to create your ML installer drive. You would point DiskMaker X to your OS X Mountain Lion.app file and follow the prompts.

I want to erase everything, and leave a clean Lion OS

Can someone tell me how I erase everything on my computer (Macbook Pro) and restore just the Lion OS?
(I'm giving my machine away to another person, want them to have it like it came from Apple.)

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

HELP - Replaced Iphone and syncing songs

Had to replace the Iphone 4 with a new one. I have over 400 songs on the old Iphone, when I transfered purchases from old phone to itunes and than synced to the new phone only 270 will transfer. How do I get the the remaining 140 songs off of the old Iphone on to the new iphone. O and only the 270 will show up in itunes since I had to reinstall it.

Try to set it up "as new device" without using the latest backup to get your settings back, maybe the backup contains corrupt data. How to back up your data and set up as a new device

Help Network Drive problems with Itunes

Can anyone help me!! I use a Maxtor shared Drive with various Roku soundbridges around my house.
What i want is Itunes to always put my music in my shared storage Drive (HOME:My Music:itunes.i tunes music), but everytime i restart my Machine i get
the standard itunes Directory.(MacintoshHD:users:me:music:itunes:itunes Music)

I'm using both itunes for Mac and iTunes for windows, I have a network drive that I have all of my music on. iTunes for windows reconizes the networks drive and all of the music. on iTunes for mac if you go to iTunes, prferences, advance you will find the folder on which all of the music is being stored. Have you tried that?
Further more I have not being able to link my iTunes for Mac to my network drive. when I tried it I had to first look for the network drive, connect to it and then from iTunes look for a folder to add to library. when I did that, itunes tried it to copy all of the music to the computer's hard drive, which I do not want. Do you know how to map a netwrok drive on to a mac computer?

HELP!! Issues with iTunes and Windows 8.1.

So I recently upgraded to a new laptop with Windows 8.1 and I have been experiencing some issues that I need assistance with. So far the issues I need help with are:
When I try to get album artwork for my songs, it gets through a small fraction then just kind of freezes.I have a lot of songs and albums but I have never had this problem before.
When I try to connect to the iTunes store, it takes quite awhile and then I am left with either a blank screen or album/song/etc. names and no pictures.And when I click on another link, it takes forever (again) and I experience the same issue while trying to travel to the new page.
I don't know what else to do and I can't figure out a solution. Please help me!!!

It means something didn't go right during the update and your iPad is in Recovery mode. The same thing happened to me during the IOS 8.1 update. You need to connect it to iTunes on your computer, update it, and restore it from your iTunes or iCloud backup. If like me you don't have a computer take your iPad to the Apple Store and they will help you with the Restore process.
