Help syncing multiple Ipods

I have several questions I need to get answered before I have a war on Christmas morning.
1. I bought 2 kids new Ipods for Christmas which will be used on the same PC. How do I sync 2 Ipods on the same PC with out the chance of them deleting each others libraries?
2. I bought the wife a new Ipod classic and Iphone so I get her old 2nd gen Ipod. How do I sync the new Ipod to her existing library which is on her own laptop? Then how do I keep her music on the old Ipod and sync it to my personal itunes without losing all my music on my laptop?
Any and all help will be appreciated
Dale

There are basically two methods for managing multiple iPods on one computer. See here:
Method 1 - Create different Windows users accounts for each iPod on this computer.
Method 2 - Create a playlist in iTunes for each iPod.
To make Method 2 work, connect one of your iPods, and click on it in the left-source panel.
Under the "Music" tab, and set your option for a specific playlist(s) under the "Sync Music" option.
Do the same with your other iPod; not connected at the same time as the other one, though.

How can I sync multiple iPods to the same iTunes Library?

The same way you sync just one. If y want different media on each iPod then only select the items you want synced to each iPod
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
Try syncing using the manual method
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
Also, I would go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says prevent iPods... for syncing automatically so that you can more easily check what you want syned

  • Need help syncing 4 ipods on one computer

Currently we have an Ipod touch, and three ipod nanos' (various generations). The touch is synced on a laptop, two of the nanos are synced on the kids' computer and a new nano is on its way to us now via the apple online store. What I want to do is put all of the ipods on our PC. Not everyone has the same music interest but some songs will be the same in each library. What is the best way to do this. ALSO, my husband and I use one Itunes account while the kids use another.
I have heard I should create user accounts on our PC for everyone and manage each Ipod through each account but I do not want duplicates of songs taking up space so I was told to create a shared library (just not sure how to do that)
I have also heard I should use one account and use playlists within that account to sync each ipod. This seems to be the easiest thing to do but wonder if it will work if we have two different itunes accounts.
Also will I be able to move my apps for my itouch over to the PC (they are on the laptop now) Thanks for any help you can provide.

Click here for options. The number of iTunes Store accounts doesn't matter unless it's more than five, but the number of libraries does. To transfer the applications, hook up the iPod touch and choose to transfer them from the dialog box which appears or the File menu in iTunes.

  • I need help syncing my ipod!

I have recently gotten some new music and videos, so obviously I wanted to sync my ipod.
So when I got on iTunes, it suggested that I update the software. So I did. Well later after the update when finished, I went to go sync my ipod. Well the +ipod service+ first tells me,"could not start service". Then iTunes pops up and tells me,"the software required for communicating with the ipod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the ipod's software."
So I stumped. I don't exactly know how to reinstall itunes or what I'm supposed to do. But I do know that every time that I try to re-update it, it doesn't work. Is there a way to get the update to go through?
    Please help me!

  • Help! multiple ipod's on one PC

i'm sure i'm being really dumb but I need help. I have my ipod and itunes running fine on my PC. I have just got my girlfriend an ipod. Do i need to add a second version of itunes on my PC, i have tried but my computer won't let me. Please help

    Hi all,
I'm having a different problem that maybe you can help me with. I'm using multiple iPods on one PC. I read the apple explanation suggested earlier in this thread and it doesn't seem to address my issue. I downloaded a free music video from iTunes and was able to drag and drop it from my purchased folder to my iPod classic 30g. When I try to drag and drop it to my wife's iPod nano 4th gen 4g, it won't let me drop it to hers. I get the circle with the left to right slash when trying to put the video on the Nano. Any ideas? Is it because it was free that it won't allow me to put it on another iPod? How does iTunes know which iPod I'm trying to put it on? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Syncing multiple Ipods to one laptop

How do I sync my 3 kids Ipods with only one laptop? It seems unreasonable to have a unique laptop for every Ipod in the house. We have 5 Ipods total, with 2 laptops. I need to find a way to put songs on my kid's ipods without having to "erase" the content that's on there now. Thoughts?
    Thanks.

  • Question about syncing multiple ipods to one iTunes library

I have an iPod touch (2nd gen Ver 3.1.3) that I sync to my computer. My daughter recently got an iPod touch (2nd gen Ver 4.0) that was under her father's account. I reset her iPod in order to put it under my iTunes store account. Next I synced her iPod with my computer adding only the items she wanted (games mostly and a few songs).
iTunes didn't seem to have a problem with our devices being different versions. So far so good. I have only synced her device once and haven't synced mine since. We have both purchased apps straight to our iPods and they aren't backed up.
    My questions are:
    1. Before syncing, will I have to go check everything I want every time in iTunes?
    2. We use some of the same apps and games. Will the game data and/or app data be written by another players data? Can you tell I'm really just concerned about my TapFish score?
I'm holding off on syncing until I know the answers.

well, it would be better to keep everything checked in your library and instead create separate playlists for each mobile device.

you can use as many mobile devices as you want with a single iTunes library. iTunes treats each device separately.
i have two Nano's, an iPod Touch, and an iPad syncing with the same library.

  • Syncing multiple Ipods

    Hi,
In our house we have just the one laptop and over the years we have synced about 6 ipods to the one itunes account.
A while back my sister got an iphone andc I synced her ipod from the account and a notice came up that some of the songs coule not be synced because I had reached the limit of users.
I will be getting a new iphone 4 for christmas and I'm worried that I will not be able to sync my ipod with all of the songs I have purchased over the years, I have always bought all of my songs from Itunes and don't want to have to repurchase any?
Is there a limit to the number of ipods can be synced to to particular songs??
    Thanks
    Kate

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
You can sync protected content (excluding rented movies) to as many devices as you like.
Each iTunes account can be simultaneously authorised on up to five computers.
Each iPod/iPhone/iPad can hold protected content from up to five different accounts.

  • Syncing multiple ipods to one itunes account

I have two ipods nano's and two shuffles. I'm having difficulty getting the twonano's to sync to aone account. One is recognized, when the second is plugged in, the sync ipod options is greyed out and not available. I haven't got past this to try the shuffles yet. Any help? All of the directions that I find state that it should plug and play by merely plugging the second in in and selecting sync......

Check your update preferences. Click on the picture of the iPod in the left pane of iTunes. This will bring up the tabs in the main pane to the right. In the first tab "Summary" check to see if your iPod is set to "manually manage songs and playlists" if it is remove the checkmark and the one against "enable disk use" and click "Apply", your iPod should sync automatically after that.
If it's not set to manual and still won't sync then try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7
