Help. . . Syncing Podcast problem?

I recently changed my iPod sync settings and I'm not sure it is syncing the way it is supposed to. Specifically my podcast settings I have set "The 3 most recent unplayed." What happens is that it puts ALL of my podcasts (which take up 18GB onto the iPod, and only shows the unplayed ones. I know all the podcasts where put on because the massive 18GB chunk that was taken out of my space and the hour and a half sync time. Any suggestions?

I have a 60 gig iPod and am using the latest version of iTunes on a Mac OS X and am having the same issue, it used to work fine, now it loads all the podcasts on the iPod, only shows the ones in the podcast menu that it's supposed to, it fills up the entire iPod that way with only podcasts and no music. If I add 20 gigs of music ot the iPod then it won't even let me put any podcasts on there. These problems are new and never had any issues like this before. Please help.

  • Manually sync podcasts - problems with Itunes

When attempting to manually sync podcasts to my Ipod, I can only manually click every other episode.  Just started when I downloaded the update to Itunes.

Right click on the iPod icon in the Source list and choose Sync from the menu that appears. You should also check when it's connected that the manual mode has not been enabled and auto switched off somehow.

  • Syncing podcasts problems

I have an iPod Touch 2G but have been having problems syncing my podcasts. The sync process does not seem to recognize when a podcast has been listened to on the iPod and will not mark it as read on the master list in iTunes.
This morning I again tried to sync my iPod to eliminate all the read/listened to podcasts from the iPod. I was able to add all the new podcast episodes but nothing got removed and nothing got marked in iTunes as having been listened to. In other words the blue dots were correctly identifying used podcasts on the iPod but would not update my list on iTunes. I tried syncing using all, all new and all unplayed with the same results each time.
When I look at the podcast list on my iPod using it's menu in iTunes everything has blue dots including all my listened to podcasts! Yet, when I check the iPod itself the blue dots correctly identify listened to, partially listened to and not yet listened to status of each podcast.
What I have to do right now is sync the iPod to get all new material installed and then disconnect the iPod from my computer and manually go through each podcast, visually compare titles of each session, see if it was listened to on the iPod and then delete it from the iTunes list. This seems ridiculous!
My old iPod mini used to sync without a problem and I could rely upon iTunes to update and maintain my list of podcasts.
So what setting am I missing to be able to get iTunes to sync and update the status/blue dots on my podcasts?
    Thanks for any help.
    Sue

I suspect you're not missing any setting.
I recently noticed that an episode I had listened to fully and did not have the blue button next to it, suddenly got the blue button back again! No - I'm not imagining it, it was the only episode of that particular programme that I had listened to. It probably happened after a Sync.
There is another slight problem with the Touch though. The Touch has the new feature of a partial blue dot for a part-listened-to episode, which I like very much, but iTunes does not recognise the partial blue dot. When I've checked, iTunes completely removes the blue dot even though the Touch has a partial. Therefore, I keep all episodes on the Touch, to make sure iTunes doesn't think I've finished with it and remove it.

  • Newest Itunes does not sync podcasts back from  ipod, plays=o so podcasts never deleted

Windows 8, ipod shuffle, newly downloaded itunes.
I have specified delete after played.
If I look at the podcasts on the shuffle, it correctly says the number of plays.  But if I look at the podcast list via computer, it says, for instance "two unplayed' where I have actually listened to both.
Someplace I saw the they get deleted in 24 hours but the ipod count never does get updated to the computer.
I have made a smart playlist where genre=podcast and plays>0  and it returns none.

Looking further into this sync Podcasts problem, I found the answer. Go to Store, sign out and then sign back in. Solved!  Have had this problem since 11.2; drove me nuts!  Sign out and back in worked!

  • Can I get help with podcasts?  When I try to open the podcasts, itunes crashes, says "itunes has detected a problem and must close", or the spanish equivalent since my xp is in spanish.  everything else works fine, it even downloads podcasts and syncs.

The only other thing I can suggest is to use the Repair option for iTunes.
Download the iTunes programme (do not uninstall your current iTunes) and then "install" the new copy. At some stage you should see an option to "install" or "Repair". Take the Repair option.
Once you've done that, if you still have a problem, I don't know what else to suggest, except to search through the discussions to see if anyone else has had the problem and managed to fix it.

    Are you using Windows...?

  • When trying to download or sync podcasts, I get an error code "you do not have the privilege to make changes". Please help!

When trying to download or sync podcasts, I get an error code "you do not have the privilege to make changes". Please help! I tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling, but that did not work. Also, I rebooted and that didn't work, either.

I tried to use an external hard drive from my windows computer that was formatted in NTFS Windows format.  Mac Pro sees that hard drive as "read only".  Itunes works on existing media on the hard drive to play music or movies, but when you try to purchase from itunes store and download you get the above message.  You need to move your library to a library that is formatted in exFAT format (which can be used both by "windows" and mac computers.

  • I don't want to sync podcasts. Help?

I have an iPhone 3G. I download all the podcasts I listen to directly to my iPhone. That way I can check for and get any new podcasts that I want without having to sync (not to mention that many podcasts that I subscribe to eventually get the exclamation mark , and then I have to delete and re-subscribe). Anyway, the problem is that I want to be able to download podcasts straight to my iPhone and delete them from my iPhone. I do not want to transfer them to my desktop. If I leave "sync podcasts" unchecked, they all get erased from the iPhone when I sync. If I do check "Sync", I waste time transferring to my desktop. If I leave them in itunes, every time I sync, they get transferred back to the phone. If I check "sync unplayed episodes only", new podcasts (that have never been synced) disappear. Is there some way to just not sync the podcasts, and leave them alone on the phone?

    You're welcome.
There is no way around this regardless what you want.
Since you had Sync Podcasts selected under the Podcasts tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, all podcasts will be deleted from your iPhone when you deselect Sync Podcasts followed by a sync - it should be just this once. The same would apply to music when deselecting sync music, or to movies when deselecting Sync Movies, or to photos when deselecting Sync Photos.
Follow this by downloading the podcasts with your iPhone. You can delete a podcast directly from your iPhone as with a movie or television show.
Are you saying you have done this already - deselected Sync Podcasts followed by a sync which removed all podcasts from your iPhone. Downloaded podcasts with your iPhone and without reselecting Sync Podcasts, podcasts are deleted from your iPhone when syncing?

  • Problems syncing Podcasts

Hi, first of all, I have a 8gb Touch with the 1.1.4 update and a iBook G4 with the latest version of Leopard.
In fact I have 2 problems while syncing my Touch to my Mac:
    01) When I connect it to the Mac it opens iTunes, show up in the devices list but doesn't start syncing. I always need to hit the "Sync" to start the sync. Is this normal? All my other iPods would immediately start syncing after connected to the computer.
    02) I have the podcast settings in iTunes set to sync all new podcast (the ones with the blue dot). The idea is to listen to the podcast using iTunes or the iPod and have them removed in the next sync. But when I listen to the podcast in the Touch and sync it to the Mac, instead of deleting it from the Touch, iTunes will remark it as new (blue dot) in the Touch. This never happen in my nanos or classics. Is this a non issue or I'm doing something wrong?

It sounds like you previously synced the iPod to another iTunes library. You can only sync to one iTunes library while you can do some things among different computers.

  • IPod will no longer sync podcasts from iTunes store

Both our iPod and iPod Nano will no longer sync podcasts. We have downloaded new music, which will sync, but not the new podcasts from the iTunes store. iTunes indicates that it is syncing (which takes about 1 second) but the podcasts are not synced.
We have deleted all the existing podcasts and downloaded a single new one, with no change in the problem. We have tried both iPods and the result is the same.
We are running ESET NOD32 version 3.0 for Anti-Virus. We have checked with ESET and performed the exceptions that are known to cause problems with iTunes, and there has been no change, except that iTunes no longer freezes, which it previously did.
Hopefully someone out there can help us.

easiest way i have found to resolve the issue is go into itunes while phone is plugged in. you will have a list of tabs across, summery, info, ringtones, music. select music and where it displays sync music unselect that and hit apply in the bottom right (dont worry your music should be saved on the computer) once the sync is complete re check the music sync option. ive noticed this to work 95% of the time......hope this helps

  • Classic will no longer sync podcasts with video.  I get sound only

    Hi
I was haveing a great time with my ipod. Watching podcasts of all sorts. Then it stopped syncing podcasts (music is fine). I got error messages sometimes saying cannot sync as disc cannot be found.
Then out of the blue it sunk some podcasts but with sound only. The downloaded podcasts show in podcast library and also I have copied them to a playlist I made myself called 'podcasts'. I did this once before but it disappeared. I am not desperate to save any of these current pods so dont mind dumping the lot ~(not music) and starting again if necessary.
Please help, this is driving me nuts. No really techi advice please. Simple English would be great.
    Thanks in anticipation

Found out that my iPod was hanging on the photos not Outlook. Deleted the iPod Cashe and problem is sloved.

  • Sync podcasts across Macs

I'm putting this in here as I think it's where I'd find the people who will know a solution to my problem, if there even is one.
To keep this short, I have an iMac, a MacBook Pro and an iPhone. I'll often start a podcast at home on my iMac, listen to it on my commute with my iPhone, and then listen to it on my MacBook Pro at work. At this current moment in time I have to manually sync everything. I have to keep track of what podcasts I listened to and then delete them from whatever device they are still on. I have to set play times before I resume a podcast on another divice.
I don't want to do that.
So what are my options? I have iTunes Match/iCloud but as far as I'm aware that's not currently going to help me. When it comes to podcasts I have no particular loyalty to iTunes as long as whatever system I use requries less effort than I currently have to expell.
I've seen a few podcast managers for iOS that sync across your iOS devices, but so far nothing that syncs from iOS to iTunes (or another app) aside from iTunes itself.
To be honest, I can understand why Apple didn't inclues this in Match. It would put loads of short-term storage on their servers and just eat up bandwidth day after day after day if they did what they're doing with music. But they don't need to... Podcasts are already fully available any time anywhere online.
I just need something that tells my computer, "You are now subscribed to this podcast. Go download the lastest five episodes, you're 37 minutes into the first one."

It's iTunes that's syncing with multiple devices. That's why you have to sync back to iTunes, then sync other devices to iTunes.
I have a Mac Pro, an iPhone, an iPod and an iPad (actually had two of them for a while). Podcasts are in sync on all of them.

  • ITunes 11.1.5 won't sync podcasts to my 6th gen ipod nano--how do I fix this?

iTunes 11.1.5 won't sync podcasts to my 6th gen ipod nano--how do I fix this?
Until a few months ago, my iTunes had no problem syncing podcasts to my 6th gen ipod nano. Since an update in the iTunes software version (not sure which version), iTunes just won't sync podcasts to the nano. No other changes have occured and only podcasts are affected.
What's going on? How do I fix this?

I had the same problem with my nano when I updated to itunes 11.1.5. It seems that the update does not transfer all of your podcast download preferences. Open itunes, select "Podcasts" from the drop down box in the upper left of the screen. The next screen will give you an option to select "My Podcasts" (top center). This will bring up a list of your podcasts on the left. Right click on one and select "podcast settings". This brings up a settings box on the upper right (this is a new variation) with your current download settings for that podcast. The download setting on mine had defaulted to "off" on all of my podcasts. I just reset them to "all episodes" and all is good.
    Hope this helps.
