Help!: syncing with itunes just erased all my data

is there any way to recover?  I just wanted to copy one app from itunes running on my pc to my ipad.   Now all of my ipad icons are all mixed up (different order than before) and several of my applications are no longer on the ipad.  When I tried to redownload my purchased apps, they came in with no data.
This is so frustrating.  I just wanted one new app and and the only reason I went to my pc and itunes was because I could not download the app directly from the app store on the ipad (for some reason Email Chess just wasn't found when searching the app store on the ipad- and I did search for both ipad and iphone apps).
itunes and the ipad should have much finer control over which direction syncing occurs and whether apps or data can be removed.  at least a warning or something.  I've just lost dozens of hours of data.

please do not respond unless you read my post completely and thoroughly.  I've seen too many people respond with advice that has nothing to do with the problem that people have stated.

I got a new iphone- went to sync with itunes just to get music and it restored my phone to my old phone's settings. lost everything including ALL of my pictures. Is there any way to unsync my phone so I can get everything back?!!! please say yes!!!!

In short. No, you cannot unsync.  If you had a back up from your old iPhone you cand restore from a back up.
In iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Devices > and select the latest back up.
Before you synced your phone did you have it set up with the PhotoStream or iCloud? The pictures would be saved there.  Or if you had them sync to a file on your computer.

  • HT1766 Where is my old backup stored? Because of auto backup, I can't see any of my older ones and with new ios erased all my data and it kept backing up the "new" setting

I plugged in my iphone and then itunes says my iOS was old and need update. Hence I update it to 7 where it erased all my data to start with, and it was actually backed up before it was erased.
After the new iOS was installed, it just couldn't restore the old data and instead it kept auto back up the new setting.  I called apple help line and the guy said whatever is on the itunes list is all there is. But because of the auto backup, the whole list is full of new backups without my old stuff. Is there anyone who can tell me whether these files are overridden or instead just not showing on itunes, and where can I find it?
    Thanks lots

When you restore a device, a new backup is created and the old backup has a date added to the backup name.
Look in iTunes prefs > Devices.
The current backup will not have a date in the name. It will show the date on right side.

  • Anyway to revert a sync?? just erased all my contacts

    1. address book erased all my contact during a 'find duplicates' operation.
    2. hoping that the itunes would ask me what to do (which direction to sync) and hoping that i could put the contacts that were still on my phone back onto my laptop, i did a small test sync (only selecting one small group of contacts)
    3. utter desolation when i realized itunes did not ask me anything, it just overwrote the deletions to my iphone **except for the group i had selected**
    so
    my questions are :
    1. can i simply 'revert' a sync?
    2. is the sync data stored somewhere that i may be able to manually pluck out my contacts?
    3. has this happened to anyone else?

    diy_neuroscience,
Try reseting only contacts from .Mac.
If you are syncing other data with .Mac it can take a long time, depending on the speed of your internet connection to complete.
If it hangs on just contacts, there may be an issue with the SyncService folder, and I would recomend reading the "swarm of bees" article, and possibly contacting AppleCare or a genius bar. That article is here:

  • Help syncing with iTunes Outlook To Update iCloud

    Hello Apple Community,
I have iPhone 4s and have just started to use iCloud. Can somone please tell me the best way I can use iTunes to sync to my Outlook Calendar & Contacts and then back this data to iCloud?
Forgive my lack of knowledge about this. I have always synced to iTunes for my Outlook Calendar & Contacts, but never sent this data to iCloud. Recently I lost all my Contacts & Calendar on the iPhone b/c I lost my PC hard drive (and to keep this story short) led to this new route of sending everything to iCloud.
I have searched for a few days but haven't found Tutorials on how to do this as yet.
So essentially what I am looking for is getting my Calendar and Contact data through iTunes to my iPhone and then send both the Calendar and my Contacts to iCloud.
If anyone can help me with this process I would be very appreciative hearing from you.
After the experience of losing everything and not being the sharpest person when it comes to understanding these things. I very much appreciate your help.

I've got similar problems with my old desk top running on Vista home premium, The problem started just recently (this year) and after iTunes had been updated. For two years I was syncing my Iphone 4S with Outlook 2007 with no problems. It just so happened that my wife's loptop was no longer reliable, so I bought her for Christmas a MacBook Air. After settng it up for her I realized the benefits and convenience having her Contacts, and Caleder on the icloud. She also has an iPhone 4S. I then decided to try and set up icloud with my desktop's oulook and my  iphone. At first it seemed that it was working although I felt something was not the same as before. It did not take long to realize that something undesirable was going on with my desktop. I could not figure out what. Looking into it I saw that iCloud (at least the latest version) could only be used with Windows 7 and 8. Having Windows Vista I proceded to remove iCloud from my desttop. In the process, to make a long story short, I had to remove iTunes and reinstall it without the iCloud. I found out removing iTunes is not as easy as it sounds. If you ever need to look it up elsewhre in this website, it requires a specific order of removing the components. By the way removing iTunes does not remove the Libtrary of songs (in my case a couple thousand). With the fresh installation my songs came back which made me happy. Reseting the fresh version of iTunes  to sync with my iPhone (not using the iCloud)  has not worked so far. Today is the second day working on it hope to get it going again.
By the way at one point I lost my contacts and calendar from my phone, however when I set the iPhone switches for iCloud all the contacts and Calendar data came back to my phone.

  • Help syncing with iTunes

I'm trying to sync my iPhone 5 and it's telling me it's synced with another computer and I will lose all my apps when I know I've only synced with my laptop.

If you sync it, you'll have 2 options, erase and sync, or the option just to import your stuff. Even if erases, it'll sync back, but if you go with erase and sync, your music, unless already in your library on that computer, will be deleted, so you might need to back your music up to a CD or something similar. Here are some links you might find useful.

  • Hard drive crashed on my MacBook pro and had to replace drive and logic board.  When I connect my iPhone and try to sync I get a dialog box stating iPhone is synced with another iTunes library, erase and sync?  How do I sync with iTunes without erasing?

Hard drive crashed and had to replace drive and logic board on my MacBook pro.  After Install tried to sync with my iPhone and a dialog box pops up stating "this iPhone synced with another iTunes library, erase and sync?".  I checked the manually manage music and videos box because I don't want all my wife's pics and music on my iPhone.  How do I Sync without erasing what I have on my iPhone???

    columbus new boy wrote:
    How crap is that?
    It's not crap at all.
It's not that simple. For example, I've 3500 songs on my MacBook but don't want them all on my phone, so I have to manually select each song again???
There has to be a solution.
Why not simply make a playlist with the songs you want on the iPhone?
and maintain a current backup of your computer.

  • Is there a way to un-sync my iPod from one computer and then sync it to another computer with iTunes without losing all my data or downloading software?

Hi, I'm selling my current computer that my iPod is synced to and want to un-sync (I think the correct term of phase is) my iPod from my current computer, so i can then sync it to my new computer without downloading any software or deleting all my data. Is this possible? If so, please tell me how. As usual, any help would be helpful.

    Do this:
    - iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
    - Then import into your new computer
    - Copy any synced photos to the new computer
    - Backup the ipd to the new computer
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup. The link directly above says how.

  • All of a sudden, when syncing with iTunes 12, almost all my capacity in my phone is taken by "Other". Used to have just over 10GB of music, now only room for 3.

16 GB iPhone 5. Used to hold about 20 apps and I could load 10GB of music. Today, I was syncing and only had space for 3GB of music. Over 8GB is being used by "Other". Anybody know what "Other" is and how to get rid of it?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Seraphiel07.
I have a very similar issue. Hardware involved:
Apple MacMini (Mid 2011) - OSX 10.8.2. iTunes 10.7. Home Sharing enabled.
Apple TV (3rd Generation). Home Sharing (access) enabled.
Apple MacBook Pro (15" Mid-2009). OSX 10.8.2. iTunes 10.7. Home Sharing enabled.
Apple iPad 2 (Wifi only). iOS 6
    Apple iPhone 4S. iOS 6
    All connected through:
Apple Time Capsule 8.0211n (4th Gen)
I have an iTunes library on the MacBook Pro, shared over "Home Sharing" and another (duplicate content, different library name) iTunes library on my MacMini, which is also accessed through the Apple TV.
All software is current (as of Sep 26th).
All movies are iTunes purchases. 80 in total.
All files are purchased (and home shared) under one account.
My last two iTunes purchases both HD movies on 09/17/2012 and 09/05/2012 refuse to appear on any device accessing either of the two Libraries over Home Sharing. It should be noted that every other movie (the other 78) all show up and play correctly. I therefore know it is not an issue with connectivity, otherwise I would see zero movies available.
    I have:
    1. Removed all content from each Library and re-added
    2. Upgraded the OS on the MacMini 10.8.2
    3. Tested viewing the two missing movies on other Apple devices and no luck.
    4. Turn home sharing on and off within iTunes and also on each device.
It would appear to me that the issue is with the files themselves, rather than the devices as different devices and different versions have been tested.
    All comments welcome.

  • When my husband bought IPhone 4S like mine we need to sync with ITunes and share all information (except music). We need to access emails from the same account. We need 250 business contact info as well. Can this be done?

When my husband bought IPhone 4S last year like mine we could not sync it and share our business email account and 250 business contacts. It wiped out everything in my IPhone and was a mess. Can you share an email account and contacts between two IPhones? Only thing is, we don't want each other's music. He still uses an old fashion phone because we can't be a two-IPhone household (home-based business) and share the same emails and contact information. What's up with that?

"Can you share an email account and contacts between two IPhones?
    Yes.
" He still uses an old fashion phone because we can't be a two-IPhone household (home-based business) and share the same emails and contact information. What's up with that?"
Not sure I understand.  You can set it up however you like.
You can certainly share contacts and e-mail while not sharing anything else.
Ope itunes, connect iphone, select the contact program/service that you would like, select the calendar service program and calendars,  select the music, photos, apps, books, etc,  sync.  Set up whtever e-mail address(es) you like on the iphone itself.
Do the same for all of the other idevces that you like.

  • Iphone doesnt sync with Itunes correctly

    Need seriously help.
My new Iphone 5S does not sync with Itunes correctly. All movies i bought won´t get on the Iphone, altough i´ve acitvated all the sync options in itunes. Music Sync ist activated, Movie Sync and Pic Sync also is correctly activated. But always i enter the Button "Sync" it ignores the settings i have taken. There are no movies on my Iphone , there is no Musik i have selected transfered to my Iphone. Ive tried it now about 2 hours to find a solution. But no Succes so far. The Sync doesnt work. There is no message that the sync failed. It always jumps from "Preparing Sync" to "Complete Changes" (Its my translation from the German Itunes:> - i dont know how the steps are named in the englisch version)
I´m using A Iphone 5S with Ios 7.0.4 and a Macbook Pro 2012 with Itunes 11.1.3 (8). I´ve heard there are many other people, who have the same issues with syncing to their devices. With every try more i loose more Musik on my Phone. Because the music i havent bought on itunes also disappears from my phone. It all started with my movies. The movies disappeared from my phone and didnt work anymore. Every time i wanted to start the movie , Loading crashed an i was removed on the homescreen. The whole video app crashed. After this wanted to try it again, but the movie disappeared from my phone. And that happened to all movies i had on the Iphone. So i started the Phone again and all movies were back again. But the Crash happened again. My Explanation was a crashed file, so i wanted to sync it with itunes to repair it. But Itunes also didnt work anymore -
What do you think? Hardware issue or Software issue with the new Ios or Itunes ?

    Try "resetting" ...
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • 80 G Video iPod (1.3) is recognized but won't sync with iTunes 8

After updating to Mac OS 10.5.5 and iTunes 8 my 80 G Video iPod (Software version 1.3) won't sync with iTunes 8 at all. That is, it starts syncing and within seconds the dreaded spinning ball appears. After that, the only thing left is to force iTunes to quit.
My iPod is in fact recognized, and I can adjust the settings. But it simply won't sync. So far, I have had no problem syncing my iPhone 3G (2.1).
I've repaired permissions, cleared caches, etc. etc., the works. I've re-apllied the 10.5.5. Combo Updater, re-installed iTunes 8 and as a last resort even resetted my iPod, all to no avail.
Please advise. So far I've seen many similar complaints but, unfortunately, very few answers.

One last thing I can suggest as sort of the Hail Mary pass in case the issue has something to do with the USB ports being messed up...
Do a reset the FW & USB chip sets on the mother board. Unfortunately, when you power down the computer there is always a bit of power still applied to the motherboard to keep things alive and this usually includes the ports to do stuff like detect when a device wants to wake up the computer. The downside of this is when a bus/port chipset goes into a weird state, locks up, etc., simply power cycling (shutdown & restart) the computer won't work.
So first thing to try is resetting the chipset and to do this you have to power down the computer and completely unplug the computer from the wall power (unplug the power cord to your Mac) and also remove the battery from your laptop. Also unplug everything from the Mac's ports (USB, FW, Ethernet, etc.) to make sure no parasitic power is still there to keep the chipset alive. Now let it sit for a minute (give those big power caps in there time to discharge). Now reattach the battery pack, plug the power cord back in, & start up the Mac. Now check and see if your USB ports & iPod work together any better.
    Best of luck!

  • WiFi sync with iTunes? App data sync'ed?

    Hi there,
Is there a way to wirelessly sync an iPhone with iTunes? Also, does syncing with iTunes sync program-specific data as well? Just want to make sure I don't loose data when / if I have a problem with the iPhone.
    Justin

No, syncing with iTunes is via USB/dock cable only.
When you sync with iTunes, the 3rd party app data is backed up, along with many other things (but not the apps themselves, music, etc., since those are part of the iTunes Library).

My iTunes gave me the option to erase and sync with the library or just sync with Itunes purchases. Since I have songs from more than one source and all my music was in the library, I chose the erase and sync option. All my music was wiped off my iPod and a few recent iTunes purchases were synced onto the iPod. All my music is still in the library, but it won't sync to my iPod. Making me crazy.
