HELP ! System freezes now with new MSI GeForce 6600GT AGP

Any/All help is greatly appreciated... this is driving me crazy.
Just installed a new MSI 6600GT AGP card.  Windows/Apps work fine.. but system keeps freezing (disabling keyboard as well) when running certain games (3D?) like Medal of Honor, Prince of Perisa, SplinterCell.  Also, freezes on 3DMark01SE benchmark software.  What strange is 3DMark2K5 ran fine.. and returned a respectable score (3078).   I've tried unistalling/re-installing latest MSI drivers (71.22), Nvidia's 66.93, and removing nVidia's GART drivers.  I've also disconnected other hardware to allieviate PSU constraints.  I've uninstalled/re-installed 6600GT card and molex power connector on card.  My system specs are below:
Motherboard = ASUS Focus A7N8X-LA, BIOS=American Megatrend 3.07, Chipset = nVidia nForce2
MSI GeForce 6600GT 128 AGP
1Gb Ram
200Gb Maxtor  8mb buffer HD
ASUS E616P1  DVD-ROM
RICOH  MP5240A  DVD+RW
Enermax EG375P-VE SFMA PSU  (has separate 12V rails)
Any suggestions as to what else to try?  Getting ready to RMA this card.

Question
I just got a K8 series MB , and your A6600GT 128MB VGA , every time when I quit the 3D games ,
the system gave me a blue screen and then restart the system. I already update the VGA driver and MB
driver but no luck , what can I do?
Answer
If your system are WinXP + SP2 , We suggest you to disable DEP function.
Please follow below steps to disable the DEP. (See below picture)
1. First , Select “Advanced” under “System Properties”
2. Choose “Settings” under “Startup and Recovery”
3. Click “ Edit “ , then you can edit “boot.ini” file.
4. Change “/NoExecute=OptIn” as “/execute” (See below red square in step4)
5. Then save the boot.ini file and restart the system.
6. After rebooting , the DEP function will be disable.

• /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN Enables DEP for core system images and those specified in the DEP
configuration dialog.
• /NOEXECUTE=OPTOUT Enables DEP for all images except those specified in the DEP
configuration dialog.
• /NOEXECUTE=ALWAYSON Enables DEP on all images.
• /NOEXECUTE=ALWAYSOFF Disables DEP.
Configuration Description
OptIn
(default configuration)
On systems with processors capable of hardware-enforced DEP, DEP is
enabled by default for limited system binaries and applications that
“opt-in,”
With this option, only Windows system binaries are covered by DEP by
default.
OptOut DEP is enabled by default for all processes. Users can manually create
a list of specific applications which do not have DEP applied using
System in Control Panel. IT Pros and Independent Software Vendors
(ISVs) can use the Application Compatibility Toolkit to opt-out one or
more applications from DEP protection. System Compatibility Fixes
(“shims”) for DEP do take effect.
AlwaysOn This provides full DEP coverage for the entire system. All processes
always run with DEP applied. The exceptions list for exempting
specific applications from DEP protection is not available. System
Compatibility Fixes (“shims”) for DEP do not take effect. Applications
which have been opted-out using the Application Compatibility Toolkit
run with DEP applied.
AlwaysOff This does not provide any DEP coverage for any part of the system,
regardless of hardware DEP support. The processor does not run in
PAE mode unless the /PAE option is present in the boot entry.
Yes let us know how it goes. Hopefully well.

  • Problem with new MSI GeForce FX 5900

Just bought a new MSI GeForce FX 590 TD-128.
I removed previous drivers and video card, installed the new video card and attached the power cable, and booted my machine.
When I boot the machine I get no picture....just a blinking cursor in the top left hand side of the screen.  I thought maybe it was a power supply issue (350W PSW), so I tried installing the video card in another machine with a 400W PSW.   I get the same darn blinking cursor    X(
Anyone have any ideas what causes this?  Do I have a defective card?

Are both those boards AGP 3.0 ??
I have a Soyo Dragon K7V Dragon+ and a ECS K7S5A.  The website for the Soyo board is:
    http://www.soyo.com.tw/products/proddesc.php?id=37
It mentions a Universal AGP Pro Slot and support for AGP 1X/2X/4X...but no mention of AGP 3.0.
    The ECS board is at:
    http://www.ecs.com.tw/products/pd_spec.asp?product_id=192
and only mentions AGP 4X support.
Does the FX 5900 only work on the newer motherboards maybe?

If it doesn't work on any board then it might be bad, but 350w and 400w don't mean much so it's also possible you have a power problem.
Both power supplies are made by Antec.  Seems unlikely that neither machine would even boot...but I've seen stranger things

  • MSI GeForce 6600GT AGP problems

    Hi all,
A couple of days ago i bought the 6600GT 128MB AGP graphics card and i have the following problems.
I have a gigabyte motherboard with a 370 socket, a 4X AGP, and a 350W PSU. I tried 3 games and i got major problems in the graphics in two of them. Doom 3 seems ok, but in painkiller and half-life 2 the polygons dont look right to me (the polygons are corrupted).
Also in the "MSI information" tab in the display properties i got the wrong information about my graphics card. The memory type is wrong (it displays SDRAM) and the AGP 4X in the "AGP/PCI information" is not ticked. I checked my BIOS option and is set to 4X so i dont know whats wrong. I also tried both the 66.93 NVIDIA drivers and the 71.22 drivers from MSI but nothing happened. The polygon coprruption in the aformentioned games remains.
Could please someone help me? Does the 6600GT work on AGP 4X?
    Thanks in advance,
    Yannis

I tried "dxdiag" to perform some diagnostics on DirectX and while testing the Direct3D capabilities of the card the test fails when using hardware-accelarated Direct3D 8 & 9 interfaces, while passes the test with Direct3D 7. I cannot figure out the problem. I tried everything i could so far but still nothing. Can someone help me? The AGP slot of my motherboard supports 4X (AGP 2.0 compliant). Can this problem be from a damaged graphics card?

  • Need help re-synching iPods with new computer and getting iTunes to...

Need help re-synching iPods with new computer and getting iTunes to recognize our iPods (it doesn't even recognize them when they're plugged in).
Hubby wiped my harddrive for me, so now I need to get everything back in proper places. I'm using windows XP and installed iTunes once again (I believe it's version 8). I also installed all of my iTunes songs. Now I need to know where to go from here. We have 3 iPods and I need to get them all synched once again. I know how to create different libraries for each of us, but I can't figure out how to get our songs back into our iTunes libraries. When I open iTunes and plug in an iPod, iTunes doesn't even show that an iPod is plugged in.
What do I do now to get each of our iPods synched with our own libraries?
    TIA
    Brandy

Thanks Zevoneer. The "Restart ipod service" worked and itunes is now recognizing my ipod! Hooray!
Okay, now how do I synch all of our ipods with our individual libraries (I don't want all of my kids' songs and vice versa)? We each have hundreds of songs on our ipods that we don't want to lose.
    Thanks again!

  • MSI K8N Diamond stable at 2800 for weeks, not now with new folding units

    Hi chaps.
I have been running my Opteron 170 for 7 weeks now folding 24/7 without so much as a twitch.
However, since the new "5 way melt" work units have been issued it is almost impossible for either core to finish a unit...either that or the machine reboots randomly.
It re-gains stability ONLY if I run the CPU at 10x268MHz=2680 MHz
Other types of work units finish stably and very quickly still so no change there.
So I have to assume that the machine was never REALLY stable, despite lots of testing with OCCT and Memtest etc to the contrary.
Now does anyone know of any reason why the HT limit might be 268MHz?
I have tried 3 sets of different RAM, to the point where I am using a "fresh" set of OCZ PC4800 units at 2.85v ...and still getting the same problems.
I am beginning to suspect the motherboard, so if anyone has any advice, I would be glad to hear it.
Would the VRM circuitry be degrading already? All caps look like new and the Mobo/case temp is always lower than 25°C. Even the VRM heatsinks are only warm to the touch.
I gained no stability by raising the CPU voltage to 1.54v, it was still unstable when folding the same type of units.
so I have put it back to 1.4v+3.3%
    BIOS 1.8/3.8 as in sig.
As I said, all other types of units complete very swiftly and without error,as does OCCT etc.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Otherwise it is goodbye MSI and another board hits Ebay!
    Regards and thanks
    K6dude

    Hi,
Well I have tried the 5.0a BIOS and no luck at all. It is even more unstable and will not work as well as the one that I have despite giving higher RAM volts.
I just downloaded a new version of A64 tweaker and happily found that this version (0.6 beta) has a different range of tweakable components. They now include Skew controls and drive strength. This is important, as most TCCD and TCC5 based ram runs faster with a "weak" drive strength rather than the default "strong" setting that the MSI BIOS defaults to.
This could help get better stability at higher clocks for some of us. Also, setting the Skew to 248 (max setting) can help a little....just like on the DFi boards...though their max settings exceed 255!
I ran my CPU and RAM in my friend's DFi Expert last weekend for a total of 2 days running all sorts of tests and benches. I got her stable at 3150MHz for at least 8 hours folding 2 independent work units (5 way melt units). voltage was 1.42v with the RAM at 315MHz (DDR630) 1:1 at 2.85v. CPU temp Maxed out at 41°C on air whilst folding
Sandra exceeded 28,500 on the CPU test and 7890 on the bandwidth and the thing really flew along. Memtest was stable over 1200% and Prime95 ran perfectly over several hours too...no crashes, CMOS resets/BSODs, lockups/shutdowns...nothing at all wrong. Even OCCT ran a successful test or two.
This was with my own CPU cooler and in the same case as mine.
Now I REALLY know what my CPU and RAM is capable of. I just need a capable BIOS to help me out with my MSI. I think realistically though, that I will have to admit defeat and be happy with 2810MHz on this board with a 183 divider for RAM.
Thanks for all your help guys...so very much appreciated. (aicjofs, you are a saint)
Meanwhile if anyone needs help here, I hope I can be of use to at least a few of you.
    K6dude
PS Sorry to say that the Benches results are not saved as his rig was under construction and were lost as he reformatted with win64 before I could copy them to USB drive. I will duplicate the results as and when I can get a DFi board late summer.

  • Problem with new MSI GTX660Ti N660TI-PE-2GD5/OC

Hi , I've just bought a new MSI GTX660Ti GPU from amazon , i was previously running the on board HD4000 graphics from the Intel I7 3770K CPU.
When i plug the new GPU in and reboot - i get the 'GIGABYTE' splash screen on my monitor , and it just hangs there -I am unable to enter any of the options and pressing DEL , F8 , F12 etc gives no response.
I've installed all the drivers , and i simply switch off the PC , installed the graphics card , take the DVI cable out of the mobo socket and plug it into the GPU socket then switch on.
The bios beeps once , the display remains frozen on the splash screen for about 3 minutes , then another single beep from the bios and   the display remains frozen on the splash screen for another4 or 5 minutes , then eventually the screen goes black , with just a single flashing underscore. No keyboard inputs make any difference.
re-booting just gives the same result.
BIOS settings are all at default  Including >  Init Display First - Auto , Internal Graphics - Auto
So , is there something that i'm doing wrong or is the new graphics card DOA ?
    Please help
    Many thanks

  • B2 Error with new MSI GTX 970 :(

    Hi there team!
Just registered to try and get help. I spent around 6 hours researching + trying all the suggestions throughout many different forums, but the B2 error still persists. I am currently running the following spec:
Mobo - MSI Z68A-G43 (G3), with version 4.30 ( I flashed bios last night and still no help)
    CPU - Intel® Core™ i5-2500K Processor, 3.5GHz etc.etc.
    RAM - Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb at 1333MHz
    GPU - MSI GTX 970 GAMING Twin Frozr V 4GB GDDR5
PSU - Cooler Master Silent Pro 700W
    I have tried:
-Taking out the card and using the on-board graphics to flash the bios to later version, No help. (during this process, the B2 error does NOT show up)
-Upgraded the card to latest nVidia drivers, even uninstalled and re-installed them. No help.
-Upgraded all the drivers from MSI, i.e. chipset etc. through Live Update 6. No help.
When the card is in, I cannot even access bios, it just gets stuck at B2 screen for like a minute, and then carries on with the boot process. I am able to play games etc. after the booting, but this error for sure should not be there when the PC boots up. I didn't have any issues with my old GTX 560 TI. I've read different forums saying that it might have something to do with the mobo thinking that something has to be connected to the on-board graphics; or that flashing BIOS helped a lot of users, but not me :(.
I don't have a second PC to test the card on.
Literally, I would try anything, please someone just help :(( This card is a beast and I wanna be able to properly use it and not having to worry about this error.
Thank you very much guys, hope someone can help!

Thanks for your time! You can close thread, but it's very useful for anyone that has this issue!
Wich version of BIOS do you have installed? Can you OC your processor with new BIOS?

  • MSI GeForce 6600GT temp monitoring

Hi, i was just wondering if there was a pre-modded / tested bios available that enables temp monitoring in MSI's 6600GT VTD-128. I didn't think i could hex it myself so i just wanted to know if anyone had success doing it.
    Thanks,
    ~Snikkle

Hi you could check those sites like this :  Enabling Temperature Monitoring on the nVidia 6600GT
but I wont recommend you to do that if you are don't know a lot about computers and updating/editing bios.

  • GeForce 6600GT AGP 4x/8x Compatibilty Question

Hi, I have received an  MSI NX6600GT-VTD128 Geforce 6600GT 128MB DDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card as a gift. I also have a media center pc with e-Home TV Tuner. I was wondering if i replaced my Current GeForce4 MX440 with this new MSI card, would there be any compatibility issues with the tv tuner card, or does this MSI Card support all tv tuner cards?
    Thanks,
     ~Snikkle

    Snikkle,
My friend's car is having problems, the car has 4 wheels. What do think is the problem?
I would greatly appreciate any help . . . thanks in advance.

P.S. If you have trouble helping me with my problem. Think about how much trouble I am having helping you with yours. Especially when I do not have a clue what the specs of your Hardware, OS and Power Supply are.

  • Geforce 6600GT AGP and K8T Neo ok?

I have read that people have had a lot of problems with the MSI mobo - via chipset - 6600GT combination. I planned to buy the new graphics card soon from either MSI, XFX or PNY, but after reading about all issues I'm not so sure anymore.
I'm just wondering whether there really is a compatibility problem between 6600GT and MSI K8T-Neo (other than the lockup when you enable TURBO mode).

My K8T Neo FIS2R mainboard would not boot reliably to the Win XP Pro desktop with a 6600 card installed at any memory setting, not just when set to Turbo mode. This is simply not acceptable for a product that was marketed as a high-end mainboard, and MSI still has not publicly addressed the problem, although I am hopeful that the next BIOS update will help. But for now, I would recommend that you not attempt to combine a Neo series mainboard with any 6600 class video card. The mainboard is excellent with any other kind of card, so go for a 6800 card if you can afford it. If not, consider an ATI card, all of which seem to work fine with Neo series boards.

Went from a Windforce 670 to a MSI GTX 970 gaming, and the PC locks at the startup bios screen. I get 1 beep every 10-15 secs or so.
I've tried reseating the card, memory sticks, checking connections and nothing. If I put the windforce 670 back in, the pc is perfectly fine.

    Hi,
Yes you will need to reinstall Operating System, type the activation key in, install fresh drivers etc. You can save documents, backup anything like installing packages for favourite software (e.g. CCleaner) but all other has to be reinstalled.
I would suggest Z97 PC Mate with i5 4690K, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO cooler. Personal budget choice but still with decent performane (quad CPU and OC availability). RAM+PSU+Case you currently have should work fine.

  • XP won't boot up fully with new MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 TD64

Here's the deal.  I had many problems installing any drivers for my new Ti4200 card.  I tried many different drivers but invariably always wound up with this message:
    ---Start---
    Cannot Install this Hardware
There was a problem installing this hardware:
    Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
An error occured during the installation of the device
    The data is invalid
Click Finish to close the wizard
    ---End---
However, I looked around and found this solution:
    ---Start---
Why do I get "data is invalid" error when installing drivers?
This error appears to be due to a protection problem in the Windows registry under Windows 2000 and XP and can occur with a variety of drivers (sound cards and SCSI drivers have been reported). To fix this problem, go to Start, Run... and type "regedt32" without the quotes to run the Registry Editor. Navigate to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ENUM\PCI
and you will see a number of keys of the form "VEN_xxxx", where xxxx are strings like "1102&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_00011103&REV_04". Under each of these folders will be another folder with a long numerical name. Open each folder and look for the "DeviceDesc" which matches the hardware you are trying to install. Right Click on the "VEN_xxxx" for that device and select 'Permissions' and then tick "Allow" for "Full Control". Close Regedit and then continue with the installation of your device
    ---End---
I did that and was finally able to install the drivers.  Once that was completed, it asked me to reboot.
Now Windows XP doesn't boot up fully.  It gets to the part where it shows the splash screen for loading Windows XP and then shows a blank black screen at the time I would normally see the blue background to login etc.
Anyone know what the problem is here? I think it might be totally unrelated to my driver installation problem. The only thing I could think to do is upgrade my power supply but before I do that, any ideas?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the specs on the power supply:
    AGI HEC-300AR
    AC Input: 115/230V  50-60Hz  6/4A  Fuse Rating: F6.3AL/F6AL.250V-
    DC OUTPUT  +3.3V  +5V  +12V  -5V  -12V  +5Vsb
    MAX.A          20A      28A  12A    .5A  .8A     2A
    +5v&+3.3v Combined      165W Total Output 300W
Hope that tells you what I need.  Just looks like random numbers to me.
    Richard,
SB Live is in slot 4, how do I set it to IRQ 5 though?  Sorry, I'm just smart enough to be dangerous with computers.
Thanks for all the help you guys.  Keep the suggestions coming.  Does it look like I need a new power supply?

  • Cd's and system discs  problems with new apple quick silver g4

hello hopefully someone can help me I just purchased this macine on ebay 2 weeks ago. The problem I am having is for one I cannot open the cd-r-rw without using popcorn to open it. When I try to insert a disc for an application or the system disks that he included with the purchase I cannot read any of them in fact as soon as i close the drawer with the disc in it it reopens in a few minutes. I can't even find a way to open the drawer with out popcorn there is no external place to open this up like my old cd rom had. I had a power mac beige g3. So in order to load anything I have to download the disk to a usb small portable plug memory card, plug it in to the new machines usb port and then download the program through there. So what do I need to be able to put a system disk or program disc into this machine and also able to open the tray I have now. Do I need something like a external cd-rom drive that hooks up into my usb port to be able to use the discs or what.
The one thing it does do is play a music disc if you openned it with popcorn and close it it plays the music disc but not the other type thanks Tim L

There are several things you can check or test. Follow these 3 rules and you'll be able to change drives in any Mac.
    1. After changing Hard Drives ... are you restarting AND zapping PRAM or just restarting? Any changes to hardware configuration require zapping the PRAM (hold down command, option, p and r keys while restarting).
    2. Making a copy of a startup disk onto a second Hard Drive is never as good as installing the OS independently on each drive. Even if they're both in the same computer. Be sure your new optical drive is in place and connected when installing OS.
    3. Hard drives and optical drives have configuration addresses or designations. The ATA bus in Macs support 2 devices on each channel (2 channels). The optical drives are normally connected to the slower ATA/66 bus and are designated Master and Slave. If both drives are set as Master a conflict will occur. Check the jumpers located at the rear of the drive where the ribbon cable connects. There's usually a sticker on the drive which shows how to set them for the appropriate configuration.
    Hope this helps ....
    Gary

New Hard drive , new cable (IDE), Tryed to install New OS ( just OS X) got throught the first 5 mins in the installer , the it stoped and told me that it had encountered an error and to restart.
Now I get an error 139 installer has unexspetanly stopped.
    Press return to reboot.
Now pressing return never works have to hold start button to reboot.
Ran hardware test of cd Im gettting a a mem_/2/4 error.
I assusm that is a bad stick of memory? There is only 1 stick in there.
I belive that its using pc133 256meg for memory.
I have put a few pc133 sticks in the mac but none will work eather get a bad memory beep or no display .
Does it have to mac memory or special latency ?
Have opened the firmware and reset -all -nvram and defaults
Have remove Air Port card and all other stuff , onlly keyboard and mouse and power cord .
Does that sound right? If you need more info let me know.
    Any other clues?
Any book that an tech like me (6 years fixing pcs) should read for macs? thanks for all your help in advance.

Another thing to consider, a free to use download (donationware) is
MacTracker; a small data base of Apple and Macintosh product specs.
If you don't already have it, see: http://www.mactracker.ca to download.
Some online manual sites had unauthorized copies of protected works
and those sites were pulled from the internet; but they had service
manuals in pdf for many models of computers. You may be able to get
the official versions of pdf manuals through a subscription service for
an annual fee; this may require searching and asking questions. It may
also require an IT budget you may not have, to get a Mac-only archive.
At one point I was given some technical support information to trouble-
shoot my own ailing under warranty Apple computer(s) and the information
is very helpful, when you have a need for the details they contain.
I was careful to use them for non-invasive troubleshooting only.
One older online source appears to have ftp:// links, but I was never
able to make them work. The site may not have valid content or could
be somehow blocked; so if you find such a site by searching for older
Apple Manuals online, it may not yield anything. Or it may be illegal.
Some of the low-end RAM chips can be problematic; I found at least
one to add major issues in my iMacG4 and made it hard to diagnose
another major hardware problem. Tossing the cheaper RAM (at retail
was higher cost than decent RAM) was the best thing; got a better one.
There should be a little information on boot ROM (firmware) per model in
the MacTracker database you can use offline. You may need to know more
about the use of Open Firmware in Macs. Hope this helps some.
PS: for a time, you could get tech manuals on CD from places
such as http://www.applerescue.com/ (they have OS installers
on disc for sale there, primarily) and also a search of the web
may get you a source of tech books for repair service.
