**Help - T400 2764CTO Downgrade to XP from Vista Home Basic**

Hello,
Please Help; I recently purchased T400 2764CTO with Vista Home Basic. This is the worst experience I ever had with an OS. I want to downgrade to XP. I do have an XP cd.
I am not sure where to get all the drivers for my hardware. I did try to look around this forum and wasn't able to locate one for my system. Please help as my brand new machine is currently sitting and collecting dust because of Vista. I really appreciate your response!
Thanks!
T400 - 2764CTO - 2.40 GHz - 3 GB ram - fingerprint reader - bluetooth - camera - wifi a/g - ATI 3450 256 MB - not sure what else to mention???

The drivers for both XP and Vista can be found at the Lenovo Support page.
Next time, do you mind giving the thread a little more time for responses.

  • Satellite L300 - Upgrade from Vista Home Basic to Home Premium issues

    Hi all,
I just recently got a Satellite L300 with an OEM version of Vista Home Basic.
I have a copy of Windows Vista: Home Premium (upgrade) disc and decided to use it on the laptop.
I put the disc in, and followed the steps however the upgrade option is blanked out... This is if I use the product key provided with the disc or not.
The laptop came with Service Pack 1 already installed and the disc I own was released into the shops before Service Pack 1.
My main question really is how can I get my disc to upgrade my version of Vista. I have tried searching Google, this website, Microsoft's website and I keep getting the same answer.
Basically go through options and do anytime upgrade. All of these are for me to buy from Microsoft which would be kind of pointless as I already have a copy.
I did read something at on a site that stated my disc would have to have the service pack on the disk and I seen a website with some kind of disc editing program for Vista but im not too keen on using it and the 'how to' wasn't very easy to understand.
Also, im not too keen on calling either Toshiba or Microsoft on premium rate numbers for help with something I have already bought and paid for and should be as simple as a few steps.
Anyway hope someone can help because I would really like to upgrade.

    Hello
I understand you and it is really annoying but what to do now? the fact is that Toshiba has offered this notebook with certain Vista version. This version must be offered with best and latest available Microsoft security updates. Due to this Toshiba offers it with latest SP1 option.
So now you try to install update offered long time ago and probably offered before SP1 was on the market. I understand your point of view but, in my opinion, it has nothing to do with Toshiba now, and you should try to find solution with Microsoft. For example you can also pick up info from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930733
Clean Vista Home Premium can be installed without any problems. All drivers, tools and utilities can be downloaded from Toshiba support & download page.

  • How to upgrade the Vista from Vista Home Basic to Home Premium

Hi there just joined the forum, so hello to everyone.
Could someone please point me in the right direction with my problem.
I have tried to sort it out myself but I just don't understand what to do.
I have had my Toshiba Laptop preinstalled with Vista home basic now for six months, everything was fine so I decided to upgrade to Home premium.
I upgraded no problem and everything was fine until I had problem with the laptop and had to reformat.
And there is my problem, through being a little naive and silly I have no record or instructions to get my upgrade back.
I have tried to look for a solution but Just don't know what to do.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
    shaun

If you contact Microsoft where you originally purchased the product key and explain that you've recovered your system but didn't write down the product key for the update they should be able to give you a new one and you can use the Windows Anytime Upgrade icon in the welcome centre again.
That should allow you to upgrade again. For future reference though, you should write down the product key and anything else that you need in case you need to recover your machine again. Good luck :)

  • Help! HP Laserjet 3050, AEX and Vista Home Basic on a Dell Dimension

    Hey All,
I have been through this forum several times and found a few nuggets here and there. Unfortunately none of them have worked.
I have my MacBook Pro printing flawlessly to the HP 3050, which is connected to the AEX USB port.
I am able to gain an IP address and surf the web on both the Mac and PC.
I downloaded and installed Bonjour for Windows
I ran through the creation of the port adding the 1.0.1.1 address.
Still, I cannot print from the Dell.
    Help!!
Oh and yes I have installed the latest drivers.

Have you tried manually setting the IP Addresses of your ISP's DNS servers in Vista (same as DNS addresses in router)...? This sounds like the same BUG I reported here which has yet to be addressed... see my posts on "DNS recursion fails"...

  • Black screen (or screen refresh) during the process of start up. T400, Vista home basic.

My 2 weeks old T400 Vista home basic can start up successfully. But every time when I start or restart it, during the start process, after inputting the password, there are 4 times of black screen (or screen refresh). Is it normal? Thanks.

  • Need Detailed instructions to install new hard drive & upgrade from Vista Home to Win7 Enterprise

    Hi folks,
    I have this laptop machine:
    Lenovo 3000 G530 4446-23U Laptop Computer - Intel Pentium Dual-Core T3400, 2GB DDR2, 160GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.4" WXGA, Vista Home Basic
I need to install another hard drive and I also want to upgrade to Win7 Enterprise Edition while doing the rebuild.
I am very nervous about doing this as I upgraded a W530 from Win7 basic to Win7 Enterprise and ran into all kinds of drive issues.  And I thought that would be about as straightforward as you could get, but it a far cry from that.
I do not want to have to go through that again - I still don't have everything working on it.
Can someone please tell me the precise steps to take to do this upgrade and how to ensure that I obtain ALL the drivers for EVERYTHING on the laptop and how to ensure that all those drivers are correct and exactly how to install them.
If there are other issues associated with upgrading from Vista Home to Win7 Enterprise, please advise of those and the solutions.
    Thanks very much.....
    Gus

    hi gmercanti,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
The easiest way to upgrade Vista to Windows 7 is to run the Windows 7 Installer inside WIndows. Follow this guide for instructions. After upgrading, you will need to install the Windows 7 Drivers for Lenovo G530 4446 via http://support.lenovo.com.
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
Let me know if you get any errors.
    Cheers

  • Upgrading from Vista Home Premium to 7 Ultimate

I'm upgrading my PC from Vista Home Premium Edition to Window 7 Ultimate Edition, but I have to do a custom (clean) install. Will Photoshop CS4 still work? If so, what's the best way to do this without killing Photoshop? will it allow me to reinstall onto a different OS? I had the same issue when I changed from an XP maching to a Vista Machine - Photoshop wouldn't work at all.

As far as I know you will have to de-activate and uninstall Photoshop before upgrading the OS and then reinstall and re-activate under Win7.
Even if it weren't necessary I'd advise it anyway.
Don't forget to save out any actions, brushes and any other personal extras!

  • Can I upgrade Vista Home Basic to Vista Business using Boot Camp & Fusion

I have installed Vista Home Basic 32-bit through Boot Camp partition and am running this through Fusion 1.1. I need Fusion's capability of running Windows at the same time as my Leopard. Presently, this OS is running smoothly as are my peripherals, including my LAN networked printer. However,
I am told by VMware Fusion email tech support that they do not support Vista Home Basic. They would support a number of other Windows OSs including Vista Business which I can readily afford, or Vista Ultimate which would be much more difficult monetarily.
I am concerned that I will need Fusion's tech support in the future and thus am willing to do the upgrade to Vista Business or Ultimate if I have to. I have been informed that Home Basic is FAT32 but Business is NTFS; that FAT32 is Apple readable and writable, but NTFS is only readable. I am a newbie and don't know what that means.
It appears from what I can understand on MS Windows support forum topics that Ultimate is more compatible with Home Basic. Could someone with technical expertise please help advise which way is best to go with this, and if I have to, which upgrade to choose; and, how to go about installing without messing up what is already working.
I'd really appreciate help with this as I have over a month trying to get this right and have had to communicate with tech support of various companies, do several complete deletions of partitions and reinstalls of various OSs and other software needed to accommodate my PC needs. My frustration level is really high at this point. Thanks to whomever is wiling to help this struggling newbie.

Thank you, The Hatter, for answering so quickly.
You asked about my needs. I use Apple OS capable Word to create documents, but often need data from a PC-only CD that was loaded on my Toshiba laptop for these documents which I share with others via email attachment sometimes from PC side and sometimes from Apple side depending on whether I still have things to add to the file and of course need to print from PC side also. That's why Fusion's side-by-side and drag and drop capabilities are perfect for me (I actually used to try to email the document to myself and go to my Toshiba to retrieve it, complete the document and email back, but MS Outlook often failed to operate.) I also receive from a friend, sound files created in PC format that I previously used Roxio to burn to CD. (Haven't gotten this running yet, apparently info I saw online about which Roxio v. would work with VHome Basic was wrong).
When I am traveling and away for 2-3 weeks, I need to have everything on one laptop so I gave up my iMac w/Tiger v10.4, which I loved, for a new Macbook Pro to get the duo core, with a 23" Cinema Display. After reading Apple discussion forum and talking to Apple Sales, decided to get Fusion to run both OS simultaneously (this part works beautifully). I need to be able to print from the PCVM (which I've finally resolved).
RE XP: In my conversations with Fusion tech supp. I was given instructions to load my XP Pro directly in VM w/o Boot Camp, telling me BC was unnecessary because Fusion could do partitioning and everything else necessary, so I scrapped everything and tried to do a new install, but their detailed instructions wouldn't allow installation. When I emailed them of the problem, they didn't reply. I really needed to get my PCVM up and running so went back to scrubbing everything and beginning again using Boot Camp and Vista Home. If there is a way to use use my XP upgrade with or without BC, I'd be happy to, but don't know how to go about it. I ordered Vista Bus. full on a special promo online for $127 but it hasn't arrived yet, so I believe I could return it if I don't need it. Will I need to scrap everything again and start over, or can I install the XP Pro upgrade with where I am now? Will the Vista capable application software be able to work with XP? How do I check whether my current partition is NTFS? What is MacFUSE, do I need it, and if so where can I get it? Is it expensive? I've really over-extended having to purchase things I believed I needed to proceed.
I also have a Seagate 500 firewire for backing up my Leopard using Time Machine. Boot Camp partitioned the 500 for Leopard and PC using FAT32, but Seagate TS tells me that I can't use both OSs and that's why I can't see the PC partition in the Fusion desk top. Fusion TS tells me that I can't use FAT32 to back up Vista. Stymied again! So, I just found a Seagate 300 Free Agent to back up the PC side if I need to I have 13 days to decide.
    Suggestions...instructions?
Again, thank you so much for sharing your expertise. I'm really grateful. I have tried to keep notes on what I've done and how, but I've scrapped everything and redone things so many times, I'm just confused at this point.

  • INSTALLING ORACLE APPS 12X ON VISTA HOME BASIC

ive been spending too much time struggling to newly install oracle R12x on windows vista home basic on my laptop HP 4GB RAM but in vain. I successfully installed VMWARE but i cant get it launched, the IE fails to start from there i really dont know whats wrong. Can somebody pls help with the step-step process how to install this apps on the mentioned platform..appreciated in advance.

I tried several times with windows desktop vista as host with vmware as guest operating system but in vain i gave up. What is the guest OS? Is it a supported OS? If not, do not expect the installation to run successfully.
also i dont have account-access to metalink so pls dont refer me there since its not free. Pls if you are not sure dont fill-up my space with unhelpful messages. For correct working steps i will give you a big credit rating...appreciated in advance.Without having access to MOS docs, do not expect to get the complete steps. Plus, we cannot post the contents of MOS docs since this violates Oracle Support agreement policy.
I am not sure what do you mean by "Pls if you are not sure dont fill-up my space with unhelpful messages. For correct working steps i will give you a big credit rating" but I should mention few things here.
    - All the replies above are helpful, but you insist to use unsupported OS (you are wasting your time and ours by doing this)
    - If you did install a supported OS, please mention the OS along with the complete error message
    - You do not have access to MOS website, which is a must for anyone who wants to do Oracle EBS installation
    - What does "not sure" mean in your line? We do not fill-up any space with unnecessary messages (I agree sometime people do, but NOT in this thread)
    - If you really need help, then you better review your replies and respect that you are getting help from people who volunteer to do so without getting any credit in return
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • Windows Vista Home basic drivers for internet

How do I get drivers for Windows Vista Home basic edition to work with Windows vista on my mac. Can't connect to internet on vista.

    Hi,
    for the obvious:
After the Vista installation, did you install the Apple drivers from the OSX Leopard Installation DVD ?
If not, boot into Vista and insert the OSX Installation DVD that came with your iMac.
The Driver Setup usually starts automatically.
All drivers needed are on that DVD.
    regards

  • Windows Vista Home Basic: Disc burner or software not found..

    Need some help please!?
I have searched sites across that internet in hopes to find a solution to this problem. I hope someone can help.
I have an acer running windows home basic. I have recently installed iTunes (its the best!!). I went to burn a disc and when I click the button at the bottom of the screen, it says "disc burner or software nout found"..
For some reason, I thought it was my Daemon tools virtual CD emulator, uninstalled that, still having the same problem..
    HELP!?

+The error message isn't exactly the usual one, I wonder if you have another issue such as Daemon tools, iTunes doesn't like virtual drives.+
Hi p. Just a possible heads up on distinguishing the 64-bit thing from the Daemon tools thing. With earlier "Disk Burner not found" messages related to missing the 64-bit drivers (on a 64-bit system), the error codes in the DVD/CD diagnostics next to the affected drives typically used to be 2380, and 2355. (rather than the 2510 that seemed to be associated with the Daemon Tools SPTD driver thing on 32-bit systems that could produce a "Disk Burner not found".)
I'm well out of date with troubleshooting this on recent versions (7.4.x or above), though,

  • Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit

I'm looking at the customisable configurations, and I see that you offer 8GB RAM but that a 64-bit system is required to support it. At the same time, the only option that explicity says it's 64-bit is the Business edition of Vista, which I definitely do not need. Is there any way to specify an order with Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit?
Yes, I know what I'm talking about and I need the power, but none of the administrative nonsense associated with the Business addition. From Wikipedia:
"Similar to Windows XP Home Edition, Home Basic targets budget-conscious users not requiring advanced media support for home use. ... Home Basic supports one physical CPU, but with multiple cores. 64-bit Home Basic supports up to 8 GB of RAM. ... Comparable to Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, Windows Vista Business Edition targets the business market. It includes all the features of Home Basic with the exception of Parental Controls and the Windows Vista Standard theme. This edition can join and participate in a Windows Server domain. It includes Internet Information Services, fax support, Rights Management Services client, Encrypting File System, system image backup and recovery, Offline Files, a single user Remote Desktop server, ad-hoc P2P collaboration capabilities, Shadow Copy support which provides access to previous versions of files, support for Tablet PCs, and other business oriented management features. The Vista Business edition supports up to two physical CPUs. 64-bit Business supports 128 GB of RAM."
I'm looking at a configuration with a high-power, dual-core processor and 8GB RAM with the 2GB disk cache on top of that for, among other things, high-volume, intense audio processing. None of the extras associated with Business are things I need, but I do need a 64-bit system to utilise 8GB RAM. Frankly, I just really don't want to have to pay $79 simply for the RAM support, I don't want to deal with it through Microsoft, and although the basic edition is apparently not eligible for a free Windows 7 upgrade, I can cross that bridge when I come to it.
    My questions:
If I'm configuring a machine with >3GB installed memory, will it by default be configured with the 64-bit version of the edition of Windows I've selected?
If so, will there be a cost difference? There is no cost difference between the listed 32- and 64-bit versions of the Business edition.
If not, is there any way to make this simple change on my order? Does Levono even ship Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit?
    Solved!

Okay, good to know. I still need to know whether I can get Levono to ship my machine with the configuration I've selected, only with Vista Basic 64-bit
SInce Lenovo don't offer either type of Vista Home in a X64 version, the answer is quite simply, no.
    buzgun wrote:
what would be most cost-effective would also be appreciated.
Sweating on the OS cost when you are planning to put an expensive 8 GB of RAM into a system seems to be quite cost-ineffective IMO!

  • Hp 9800 printer will not print 13"x19". using vista home basic. tells me paper size is problem.

Deskjet HP 9800 printer, USB connection, Vista Home Basic 32 bit. I am trying to print 13"x19" colour and the printer receives info from computer, goes through a few gyrations and then feeds my sheet of paper out with no attempt to print. I have tried every possible combination of setup features and have tried to print at Max DPI and at Best DPI. Same results. Only error message ever received was one telling me of a conflict in paper size. That message was received twice during about 15 attempts to print. This my first try at 13"x19". I have no problem with 11"x17" colour or black and white.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/cups/error_log" from the file list in the Console window. Then select the messages from the time of the last printing attempt. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

  • I need to uninstall then re-install Vista Home Basic and need to know if I must back up all my bookmarks to a disk first.

I have had on-going problems with communication between my Lexmark X3650 printer/scanner/copier and my Dell Vostro PC. Dell has instructed me to uninstall then re-install Vista Home Basic to my PC. I need to know if I will lose my Firefox bookmarks when I do this (I am waiting for them to send me the Vista disk before I can re-install). Will my bookmarks be saved on Firefox? Will I have to re-load my Firefox browser? I am certainly no computer whiz buy I simply cannot afford to lose all these links (collegiate workbooks and course-work submission links etc.). HELP!

You can backup the bookmarks in the Bookmarks Manager.
You can export the bookmarks in Firefox to an HTML file:
Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Export HTML
You can also create a JSON backup:
Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Backup
An HTML backup doesn't support tags and annotations, so if you want to preserve those then you need to use a JSON backup.<br />
Restoring a JSON backup will replace all existing bookmarks, so existing bookmarks are lost.<br />
Importing an HTML backup will merge the imported bookmarks with existing bookmarks, so you do not lose the bookmarks that you already have, but you may get duplicate bookmarks if some already exist.
