IMac for on-line course that requires running Windows 98 or later?

I am planning to take an on-line college course that says it "must be taken from an IBM Compatible (PC) computer running Windows 98 or any later version operating system. *An Apple (Mac) computer will not work for this course*." (Bold words are theirs.)
If I have to I can purchase an inexpensive Win system, but I would prefer not to. Is it possible to run a version of Windows on my iMac that might work? If so, can someone point me in the right direction?

It would be cheaper to buy VMWare Fusion or Parallels and some cheap/used/old version of Windows.

Using a Mac for an on-line course that "requires" a PC?

I want to take an on-line course from Gatlin Educational Services. They claim that I must use a PC for the software to be compatible. When I ask them about using a dual-processor iMac running windows they won't say either yes or no. Just that "some students" have had problems. In input out there? Thanks

If you have an Intel iMac as your profile indicates and have MS Windows installed then I would definitely try that online course out on WIndows. Once Windows is running on your Mac then your Mac will behave just like any other PC running windows and should run the same Windows based applications that any other PC would run in your iMac's class.

We are not able to run java, flash, or shockwave on our laptops unless we
log into the workstation first as an administrator. Is there a way to fix
this so that the students do not have to log onto the workstation first as
administrator?

Are you sure you have a 4g/3g iPod? If you don't have a camera, it's definitely not 4G. If it has no camera and is 8 or 16 Gb it is a 2G and can't go beyond 4.2.1.

I have been doing online banking with this bank for 7 months with no problems. About 2 weeks ago I started having problems with certain things within the account. I called the support team with the bank and told them the problem and they suggested to uninstall firefox and reinstall so I did. Now I can move around within the account but can not sign off. That issue can be caused by corrupted cookies.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted. 
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

Now for the intersting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins. Unless you are prone to headaches (in which case don't) you can read about that here:

But there is a workaround!
Open TenFourFox and type in the address bar: about:config (no spaces) and click return. This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care.
Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled
Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it)
Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored.
With SilverLight, Microsoft attempted to create their own version of what a replacement for Flash could be - but not to universal acclaim. You can read more about it here:

So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards) if you are using a PPC Mac, but even this will not work with Safari 4. I'm still getting that same message how did you fix it? i installed the wmv player or Flip4Mac (i'm unsure if thats the same program), but even after i am still getting the pop up saying " The movie ____.avi" can't be opened. What am i doing wrong?

YOu can try resetting your network or a reboot. To reboot hold down the home/power button together until you see the apple logo and then release. Wait for the phone to boot back up, you won't lose any data.

I beleive they used the same concept that they did in iOS. One folder deep. If you think they should implement somehting more, then please use the feedback links in the forums FAQs to leave your comments and suggestions.

Thanks for your reply. This video was recorded by my own professional camera, Sony PMW EX 3, two years back. But I am neither a professional cameraman nor an editor. I am just like a beginner in both. I didnt have space in my storage device, so I just copied all my clips, thinking I can edit it latter, without recompressing or editing or whatever I should have done it at that point of time. Now I need to edit it and use it in my profession. I am very upset. Please help me in going step by step to get it in FCP X for editing. Also I would like to know, do I need to buy the Compressor 4 for any reason. I dont mind in buying, if you think it is going to be useful for some reason. Since you have already isolated it down to your home network, if following Steve's instructions do not fix your issue, contact your Internet Service Provider or Router Manufacturer and make sure your network is set up according to this information: iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
